Fitzgerald interviewed Obama

Posted: Tuesday, December 23, 2008 4:49 PM by Mark Murray

From NBC's Mark Murray and Chuck Todd
Perhaps the most interesting news from the Blagojevich report just released by Obama's transition office is that Obama -- as well as Rahm Emanuel and Valerie Jarrett -- had interviews in the past week with US attorney Patrick Fitzgerald's office. We later learned that Obama was accompanied by his personal attorney, Bob Bauer.

This seems to explain why the Obama team waited until this week to release its report, and why Fitzgerald wanted them to wait.

Here's the key passage from the report: "These accounts were communicated to the Office of the United States Attorney in interviews that were conducted last week. At the request of the Office, we delayed the release of this report until such time as the interviews could be completed. The interviews took place over a period of three days: Thursday, December 18, 2008 (the President-Elect); December 19, 2008 (Valerie Jarrett); and December 20, 2008 (Rahm Emanuel)."

The rest of the report confirms what had been leaked in previous days: that incoming chief of staff Rahm Emanuel had one or two conversations about the Senate seat with Blagojevich; that Emanuel had about four conversations about the seat with Blagojevich chief of staff John Harris; and that in these conversations, there was never a discussion about any quid-pro-quo for the seat.

"The accounts support your statement on December 11, 2008 that you 'have never spoken to the Governor on this subject [or] about these issues,' and that you 'had no contact with the Governor’s office,'" incoming White House counsel Greg Craig outlines to Obama in the report. "In addition, the accounts contain no indication of inappropriate discussions with the Governor or anyone from his office about a 'deal' or a quid pro quo arrangement in which he would receive a personal benefit in return for any specific appointment to fill the vacancy."

Are we seeing something that we have not seen in the last eight years-----the truth?
Come on Guys! You demand president-elect Obama release a report detailing all contacts made by him or his staff. Then after hounding him for a week, you dismiss the report as self serving. What did you expect? It's his report!
REPUBLICAN KOOL-AID SLAM IN 3-2-1.......
NOW ALL WE NEED IS SOME TRANSPARENCE AS TO WHAT OILMEN WERE IN CHENEY'S OFFICE TO RAPE THE U.S. THIS SUMMER WITH OUT OF CONTROL OIL PRICES. I'M SURE THAT WILL COME OUT SOME TIME NEXT YEAR.
Wow, this is going to be a big dissapointment to the RNC and all those looking to see Obama and his staff hang next to Blago!

It looks like Obama presented an accurate accounting from the beginning when he said he had no contact. But I'm sure there will be those that still are convinced he must be guilty.
Obama haters and conspiracists in 3-2-1,...

Never enough to have the US Attorney's office 'exonerate' (interesting choice of words) one's behavior.
Sorry wingnuts.  No scandal today.  But hope springs eternal, you all can hope Scarlett wears him down sometime between now and 2016, to give Palin and Joe the VP a chance.
Sounds like the President-Elect and his staff are trying to be transparent like they promised.  That's all I ask as an American.

msnbc along with the rest of the cable news media should be boycotted...
You had a guy on who referred to Gov. Blagojevich in the worst personal attack possible and the ridiculous singing woman anchor, dark hair red dress opened the stock market...didn't challenge this terrible person...why?
and this is an Obama spokesman....oh no!!!!shame on all of you....he sounded like the spoiled get-even child Rahm Emanuel....Gov. Blagojevich be careful of these people after this story goes away....

So the only question is how long will the media continue to spin nothing there?
Ok media folks, time to stop the insanity once again. I recall last week when several including Keith O. suggested that Barack not listen to the prosecutor and release the results BEFORE the requested date.

Seems like that would have been a VERY bad play to make considering that the PE, Jarett and Emanuel all had to be interviewed by Fitzgerald. How about you focus on the real news rather than the manufactured hype?

When journalists do their jobs correctly we get results like Woodward and Bernstein (All the President's men) when journalists become full of yourselves we get Sean Hannaty and Bill O.

Hint: Muck raking does not Pulitzer Prizes make!
As the reports are released and it becomes clear that Obama and his crew had nothing to do with any of the Blagojevich mess can I assume we will be seeing blogs posted from all the nay sayers apologizing for their baseless accusations?
Ubercon and Neocon," curses foiled again".

What would you expect, Washington self serving paper hangers are what they are. CYA, That doesn't mean "Cover Your Arm"! We have a derailed Congress. We have those who have "their" little "Power Domains". Thus we are their servants. But isn't there something wrong, should it be said " they serve us"! We have "CHANGE"? Or better said " Have we started the next four years "Reliving more lies, un-check power domains, and scandals. Is Change really Change?
