Coleman wants more ballots reviewed

Posted: Monday, December 29, 2008 6:15 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC’s Abby Livingston
The Coleman camp is now asking for a review of an additional 654 absentee ballots they think have been wrongfully rejected. This number is separate from the 1,346 ballots local officials previously determined as wrongfully rejected.

Of those 1,346, the Coleman camp believes that just 750 were wrongfully rejected, including some Franken ballots.

The Coleman campaign is also holding out hope for their duplicate ballot-counting complaint. Tony Trimble, a Coleman attorney, predicted that if such an examination were to take place Coleman would lose only 10 to 12 votes, while Franken would lose 110 to 120 votes, and in effect, the unofficial lead, which the Franken camp claims is 46 votes.

After the Minneapolis Star Tribune reported that the Coleman campaign held a contentious meeting with the Franken campaign this morning, the Coleman camp put reporters on notice on an afternoon conference call.

They accused the Franken campaign of “hypocrisy,” of being “difficult” and “not credible,” of “kicking and screaming,” of lacking “good faith,” and warned reporters to “be wary” of their recount rival campaign, which “no longer cares about accuracy.”

Yet, they said they looked forward to future “amiable” meetings with the Franken camp.

NBC's Carrie Dann adds the four reasons that absentee ballots could be properly rejected:
1) Voter name and address on the envelope don't match the voter's absentee ballot application.
2) Voter's signature on the return envelope doesn't match the signature on the absentee ballot appliaction
3) Voter is not properly registered to vote in the designated precinct.
4) Voter had already voted in person or by absentee vote.

Somebody needs to take this bull by the horns and end it. Make a decision, stick by that decision, and everybody agree to abide by the decision like it or not. This is ridiculous. It is taking too much time and probably way too much money.
So Coleman is wising up. That's great. Count all the ballots and let the chips fall where they may. But end it for crying out loud!
Coleman would only like the absentee ballots with votes for him on them reviewed, thank you.  How does he figure that out?  Well, he's got a demographic advisor and he's trying his best to cherry pick.

Funny, I thought all wrongfully rejected ballots were supposed to be counted.  But the Minnesota Supreme Court, demonstrating that it doesn't know what it's doing ("Why can't we all just get along?") required agreement.  I thought courts were needed when people were in disagreement.

Coleman will lose these battles and shortly thereafter be indicted for the shenanigans involving payments to him via his wife's company.  Pathetic.  And to think he has disgraced the Wellstone seat for the last 6 years.  Good riddance to bad rubbish.
I would it may have been cheaper to just do a re-run election at this point!
Yeah, sounds like typical idiots. Lets just count, count and recount until the totals favor the LOOSER. Same way they do it in the Peoples Repubic of California where the rest of the retarded people live.
Sigh... Quite honestly, I just wish someone could win... But no matter who comes out victorious, there will always be skepticism.

The winner is a loser, almost as much as the loser is a loser.  The only difference will be that one has a job, and I hope it's Franken.
Coleman is famous for accusing others of what HE is. Difficult? Not credible?  Kicking and screaming?  Hypocritical?  The perfect definition of Coleman, the insufferable no mind.
my knee jerk reaction is that if a Republican's lips are moving he is lying.  Could someone see if there is independent corroboration that the participants from the Franken campaign were actually kicking and screaming during the meeting?
this is crazy. the fact that the mn supreme court gave the candidates the ability to veto any incorrectly rejected absentee ballot has had the obvious predicted partisan effect. Franken wants to count all 1300+, but coleman has approved of... 700... from registered republicans only... and rejected all the ballots from democrats. if Franken does not retaliate, then he'll be right about not disenfranchising voters, but he'll lose by 650 votes or so. That was the worst most ridiculous court decision I've seen, and as much as i respect the canvasing board, i have to say the supreme court has acted in bad faith.
COLEMAN JUST LET IT GO ALREADY, YOU ARE LOOKING MORE AND MORE LIKE A CHILD THE MORE YOU TRY TO CHEAT TO WIN.  GOOD GRIEF MR FORMER SENATOR JUST GIVE IT UP ALREADY FRANKEN HAS BASICALLY WON!!
It is funny that Norm Coleman an incumbant senator is fighting for his political life with a has been comic/wannabe senator...so sad for norm because even if he "wins" he loses...another chump from the bushleague of incompetence bites the dust
I can't help but notice that it's been the Coleman side questioning the legitimacy of the recount process from the beginning, never the Franken side.
Of course Coleman wants this to continue. The Republicans know no other way. They lie, cheat and steal elections. That's all they know how to do. What a bunch of pathetic morons. Politics have changed with Obama, my friends, and you will be out scratching for votes for many years to come. Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of hypocrits!
Hey Colmen say hello to the funnyman and welcome your new senator AL FRANKEN you see marsha santa is real, thank you for electinmg a TRUE progressive not a FAKE like OBAMMa,BIDEN AND DACHEL AND CLINTON OH MY>.............ADD in BILL GATES And there you a new day in politics I am so glad I did not believe the hype and think anything would change. LOOK at Obamma taking up where that loser BUSH left off on VACATION PRICELESS spin spin spin in 8 years you can be the rats from the sinlking ship like all the former BUSH aides.IT WASNT MY FAULT.
Now "Crooked Coleman" wants the ballots reviewed? What an electoral joke!  The electoral tactics of the GOP/RNC seem not to be working too well for him, and now "Crooked Coleman" is yelling. "Help!" This mess is going to go on well into 2009. Time to move forward America!
It seems that the shoe is on the other foot, that the Coleman camp now sees the election slipping away. No matter who wins, this is going to have a bad feel about it. Too bad we can't have a do over. Well, if we were going to do that, we should have done it in 2000.
Funny how the number of ballots Coleman protests rises and falls depending on the lead in the recount.  Not too transparent, is it?
Way to go Sen Coleman. Keep it going as long as you can. Works for one side has to work for the other. We support you defending what's right, win or lose.
Those sound like pretty valid reasons for rejection (thanks, Carrie). So what are the other reasons the 1600 absentee ballots were suppposedly rejected "in error"? With very clear rules like the 4 stated, it's hard to imagine why there could be much disagreement.
How are we going to save our economy if we can't even run an election? This behavior is indicative of the ingrained partisan mentality that has brought us to this, one of the lowest points in the history of this great nation. With the bickering, corruption, loop-holing, and outright non-cooperation, we are setting one hell of an example for our children and the rest of the world. Why can we not write/pass a law that is clear and concise, without interpretation, without loop-holes, just clearly written? We have some of the most well educated people in the world, do you ever wonder why they stay clear of politics? It is past time for us to see this as one nation, indivisible, not a party line, two state nation. Why do politicians stop serving their people when they don't get their way? Coleman -Franken It's time for one of you to man-up and shut-up, forthe good of our nation!
Seantor Al Franken !!

HA ! HA !

Get used to it, Republicans !!

Can you say:  'Senator Al Franken' ??
MSierra, SF

Working hard to keep the title of dumbest poster, MSierra, SF with another look at the angry army of hate. Don't be so unbelievably obvious in the warped sense of prejudice.
Isn't this the guy who asked Al Franken not to fight for a recount and gracefully step aside for the good of MN, because it is after all what he would do in the same circumsntance?
The more scrutiny these ballots undergo, the more Franken's lead increases and looks to be more of a sure thing. For those who think we Minnesotans are wacky for having Franken on the ballot, think again. There is no "Senatorial" school to attend. He's smart, educated and compassionate. Better yet, he's not on the take as Coleman is looking to be. Now, on a different note, congrats to Bristol Palin on the birth of her baby. Putting politics aside, she's got a hard hill to climb so here's wishing her & the baby the best.
I find it amazing that the Coleman campaign is accusing the Franken campaign of lacking good faith.  The Coleman campaign has yet to explain why it disagrees with the decision of local canvassing boards on over 600 wrongly rejected absentee ballots (1,200 if you add in the ones that Coleman wants to include).

It is clear which party is acting in bad faith.  However, there is a nice Yiddish term for the person in the wrong claiming that it's the other side's fault -- chutzpah.

Maybe the Minnesota Supreme Court will decide to clean up this mess by giving the State Canvassing Board the power to resolve any dispute over which absentee ballots should be counted.
This is truly sad.
It's Tuesday, guys.  Not a holiday.  Why so lazy?  The NEW news is Blogojevich appointing Roland Burris, former Illinois AG and African American, to fill Obama's seat.
Norman, you are going to lose no matter how you play it at this point. Try to go out like a gentleman.
Is Norm Coleman and his Republican henchmen trying to replicate another Florida recount whereas they take a State illegally?
This recount has dragged on long enough.  Get the lawyers out of it and let the election officials do their job.  Enough with the recounts!
