Even more on the Panetta pick

From NBC's Andrea Mitchell
NBC News has learned that Senate Democrats -- including Dianne Feinstein and Jay Rockefeller, who are the incoming and outgoing Intelligence chairmen -- have privately recommended a career CIA officer to head the agency.

Democratic sources indicate that both have recommended deputy CIA Director Steve Kappes, a veteran CIA intelligence officer who is widely credited with getting the Libyans to give up their nuclear program. Kappes also was former Moscow station chief.

The senators have let the transition team know they believe that the agency has finally settled down under Michael Hayden and needs a real intelligence pro to make key decisions -- and get institutional support to make them stick.

One potential downside for Kappes: Like former counter-terror chief John Brennan, some critics says he had line authority over controversial decisions involving interrogation and detention. Brennan was taken out of contention for the CIA job after criticism on the Web on that issue, even though he says he privately objected to the policies and was not in the chain of command at the time.

What a blunder Obama has made on this pick. He's going to put a Clinton operative in as the top spy? Panetta is nothing more then a talking head on Larry King Almost Alive. Leon is a clown put out there to distract the masses from Bill Clinton's corruptness. I mean, what's next? James Carvelle for top diplomat to some country?
Panetta is eminently qualified.  He's an attorney and his resume' indicates a talent for organization.

And it's a change.
The problem with picking a CIA insider to lead the CIA ....

They're all DISCREDITED !!
They're all implicated in TORTURE !
They're all implicated in water boarding
They're all implicated in supporting TERRORISM !
From the Contras to UNITA to the Taliban to Osama bin Laden to the 'Death Squads' to the Allende overthrow and Operation Condor
They were all a bunch of political lick spittles when they LIED about WMDs for Bush

George Tenet is trying to say he knew nothing about the lying about WMDs

You can get better 'intelligence' from a Ouigi board
Why not buy one and abolish the CIA ?

Feinstein and Rockefeller never got it on torture.  They never got it on illegal surveillance.  Their objection does not bother me in the least.

More importantly there is no way they have the stones to block the nomination.

I wish they'd had the strength of character to get so worked up when they learned the Bush was shredding the Constitution and out nation's reputation.
This pick will certainly take the focus off Richardson being outed as a criminal and Burris being appointed by a criminal.

Why not just appoint Paul "The Forehead" Begala to something next?
Gee, I watched a couple of the 007 movies over the weekend. That means I have more spy experience then Panetta.
PANETTA WILL UNDERMINE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE CIA: '...PANETTA IS A 'SNAKE IN THE GRASS.'   HE WILL DO EVERYTHING HE CAN TO UNDERMINE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE C.I.A.  HIS NOMINATION MUST BE STOPPED!   Obama is trying to sneak this appointment by us....'

HUH ?

You mean like stopping the 9/11 attacks ?
They did a GREAT JOB THERE !!
The CIA was CLUELESS ABOUT 9/11 !!

How aobut the Yellow cake for Iraq ?
Or the WMDs in Iraq ?

They were REALLY GOOD then, huh ??

GET A CLUE !!!
(just not from the CIA)
given her absolutely abyssmal record on civil liberties and defending the constitution I would not want anyone that Dianne Feinstein championed. You might as well ask Bush for his recommendation as her.
DIANE SIT AND SPIN.  YOU SAT ON YOUR BUTT AND GAVE BUSH EVERYTHING AND NEVER ONCE COMPLAINED. REMEMBER TORTURE,REMEMBER MUSKEY,ETC. YOU HAVE NO STANDING ON THIS. OBAMA TOLD YOU A CHANGE WAS COMING. YOU ARE JUST MAD THAT ONE OF YOUR PEOPLE IN THE CIA DIDN'T GET THE JOB. MAYBE IT IS TIME FOR YOU TO GO BACK TO CALIFORNIA. WE NEED CHANGE AND NOT THE SAME.
If change is to put nitwits in charge of very important organizations, then yes, this is change.
What's interesting is that Obama hacks are now even turning on their own to defend The Obama. Their minds are clearly clouded.
I don't know why people are so surprised about Obama (who is not qualified) appointing Panetta (who not qualified).
Feinstein is another reason for term limits in the Senate; People claim that things never change and then get upset within minutes of an announcement after reading a short summary and think they are experts. Obama again has put together an excellent, balanced team for national security.

Obama said he was bringing change and he will...unlike the past model of one person in charge he is building well balanced teams to specific areas; this is the way successful businesses and enterprises are run. Feinstein has been upset since Clinton lost the primaries.

Obama isn't in the pocket of the senators; he nominates and if the senate doesn't like his pick, then don't confirm him but you better have better reasons than he didn't come from the CIA whose pathetic job of intelligence started the Iraq war.
Al Franken has tortured more people than the CIA.  They should have played his Air America shtick 24 hours a day to terror suspects instead of rock music.

Unfortunately there wasn't 24 hours of material to use.
Everyone was so preoccupied with "change" that nobody bothered to ask "a change to what?" I wonder if even Obama knows...
Sometimes the only way to make bold changes involves upsetting the status quo.  Those on Capitol hill who are upset tonight did NOT stand up for American principles ('all men are created equal and endowed with certain inalienable rights') as we slid towards being a country that practices torture!  They did NOT deserve to have the final say IF ANY and Obama is showing us in this instance what it's like for a politician to follow through on his campaign promises.  Did he mean "Enough!" when he said it?  I believe he did and I am proud of his decisions.
