No surprise, but House speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) was reelected as Speaker of the House for the 111th Congress.

The vote was 255-174.

Right, no surprise. But one surely would have been welcome.

SHOCKER!
How's Kucinich taking the news?
Pelosi looks good for her age. What is she 70 or something?

"That's Alright, Mama, anything you wanna do."
[vote was 255-174]

In other news, 174 caskets were delivered to the Capital loading dock.
The worst speaker in the history of the United States.  No wonder Liberalism is a disease.

Now she can go ahead and destroy free spech like she planned to today...

Such an evil nasty little woman.
== -- Boehner introduces Pelosi. Pelosi speaks. ==

But as usual, Nancy says nothing and just babbles on incoherently.
I believe that Pelosi CAN be a good Speaker of the House - if she puts her politics and ego aside and remembers why she was elected to the Senate in the first place.  This is not a game.  This is not about Democrats vs Republicans.  The country is in the dumpster right now and it's time to seriously address the issues.  Obama is not going to play Nancy's games so she best straighten her act and get things moving.
I'm sure we'll hear the usual snaky comments from the folks who hate Pelosi, but personally I'm glad she's been reelected as Speaker of the House. Don't recall hearing all this snarkiness when the Speaker was a man, and in my mind Hastert deserved at least this much derision.
Great, Nancy Pelosi to many people appeared spineless; but, the reality is she's a strong leader.

B-Rod may be a nut; and a  pay to play (new terminology for quid pro quo) his statement whether sincere or not in, defense of Burris, it will help the country.
Does not completing Burriss' creditendals give the IL Secerty of state  veto power over a governor carrying out his constitutional duties.? This is especially an amusement  for Republicans and a distraction for Democrats.
This obsession of divided attention from parties needs to stop. Can't  we Americans come together for the betterment of this country?

If a successor to Rep. Rahm Emanuel, D-Ill by B-Rod proves the governor still has legal authority to carry out his duties; then where's the problem?
"There's nothing wrong with Roland Burris despite Burris  little support among fellow Democrats.

This is a spectacle? The former Illinois attorney general said he was "not seeking to have any type of confrontation"

To refuse to accept former Illinois AG and comptroller Burris' credentials is beyond ludrious. Even Senate Sergeant at Arms Terrance Gainer, a former Chicagoan, would know Burris is a fine public servant thinking only of the people of IL and this country. If Burris' appointment is tainted then so are all the bills signed by B-Rod. Seriously, this country needs to come together and stop the race baiting; since we our in an precedented economic recession. Without co-operation we the middle class could face a depression.
I see red every-time I read about this non-sense.

Nj (Sent Tuesday, January 06, 2009 11:24 AM) Burris was dumb to take this appointment. He knew this would happen. I am glad the DEMS said NO WAY

I totally disagree; It was couragreous and unselfish. Burris was only thinking of the people; unlike B-Rod, in my humble opinion.

*******************************

I wonder, Jerry, how many previous Speakers can you name?  Did you conduct a thorough review of every Speaker of the House before making this conclusion?

To quote my high school history teacher, "opinions are like armpits, everyone has them and they stink."
I am a democrat and a woman and still have to agree with most of the other comments.  Ms. Pelosi is a small minded, self centered, evil and nasty woman.  Power has gone to her head in such a way as to make her think she is running the whole country.  What were these people thinking, re-electing her.
No surprise...congratulations Ms. Pelosi.
BTW...what's with all the cackling this morning on MSNBC.  Michelle Francis and Contessa Brewer...way too much giggling and cackling. I had to change the channel to CNN.
My problem with Pelosi (and Reid) is that both were weak kneed Dems when Bush kept requesting additional funds to continue on with this badly run policing action in Iraq. He should have been cut off at the knees and Congress led by Pelosi and Reid. They should have stood firm and agreed to fund only enough to keep our troops safe "as they disembarked from Iraq". But they folded. For their weak kneed chicken like behavior when it came to challenging Bush both should have been replaced.

Jerry, you've got her confused with 'the Boner'
He's the Minority 'Leader'
or was it Mitch McConJob you were thinking of ?

Keep your foot on the Boner's neck, Nancy !!
Don't let him squirm out !

Great Job !!
Now, get us our Chinatown subway and our Geary Street
How about the Trans Bay Terminal ?subway !!

Pelosi is a great Speaker, and she will finally shine with Obama as president, as her legislation finally gets passed by a real, pragmatic president, as opposed to being vetoed left and right by Bush, the failure!
This is no real surprise.  I am guessing this was done along party lines.

Jerry -- Who do you consider a good speaker?  Gingrich?  I don't think so given that he claimed to be pro-science but closed the office that evaluated science and technology that was being reviewed and copied by other countries.  Given that many members are becoming more partisan, it is no wonder that she can't the House in order because it is fighting itself.
Great, Nancy Pelosi to many people appeared spineless; but, the reality is she's a strong leader.

Yeah Blago, why don't you and Bobby Rush continue to help out this mediocre Politian who wasn't qualified to even beat you?

I must say good job Roland Burris you are so unqualified that you have to hide behind a corrupt governor like Blago and the out of date Former Black Panther Bobby Rush to make your case for you.
======================================
Dear Denise,
Mind what you say. First of all, Roland Burris is no mediocre Politian . He was AG and comptroller which he did a fablous job at. He was the top vote getter in downstate IL; however, it wasn't until he made an unsavory remark that he lost his popularity. it's only human to err!

Second of all, Bobby Rush is as you said former  Black Panther; that is the operative word. Unfortunately, he is suffering from Cancer.

Has she announced a new goal of a 12% approval rating for this Congress?

___________

Just exactly what legislations has she spearheaded in the name of destroying free speech?

Darn!  I thought she said she was going to hit the ground running!  I took that literally and hoped she'd run far, far away!
Oui ~ Someone who can speak French so fluently obviously has the intellect to appreciate Nancy Pelosi for something other than the way she looks -- like ... like ....

Well.  Give me a few minutes.  Maybe I can think of something.  As Sarah Palin said, I'll bring that back to you.  After all, you probably like HER for her looks, too.  ;)
why would one call nancy nasty? she hasn't been speaker long enough to say she is the worse. i think tom delay was one of the worst and most corrupt without being convicted. her approach to the constitution poses no threat to free speech. were does this unsubstantiated type of statement begin to develop in a persons head. maybe what she says is babble because it is to forward thinking to understand the strategy of when to say and when not to say something of meaning.

I am no real fan of Pelosi but remember all the closed door sessions and the keeping the opposition uninformed or trying to go around the opposition during the days when Newt Gingrich and Dennis Hastert were Speakers? No, I don't suppose you do. Some see only the bad on the other side and not their own. From my observations there has been much more free speech under Pelosi than either Gingrich or Hastert.
This women is a piece of crap! She sure sucks up to Republicans. LOSER!  Was she ever a drug addict? She sure acts like it.
