It's more dishonorable for you to race bait, as well as any other person , claiming the same thing. How well do you know your American history?  May I suggest you pay close attention to the era of reconstruction.

That must be a new record for the Democrats. Reid and his crew held the Democratic hardline for nearly a day before they folded! Way to go Harry!

So now we got Blagojevich's legacy firmly seated in the US Senate. Blago I'm certain is having a very good laugh over how he's the tail wagging the Democrat parties dog.

Wonderful - now we can move on to bigger and more pressing issues and concerns.

Next up on the Democratic hit parade in the Senate is Princess Caroline. She'll be in Washington any day now, just as soon as her check clears.

The Governor of Illinois has yet to be indicted of any wrong doing. The Governor of Illinois has the legal right (and expectation) to appoint a replacement for Obama's vacated senate seat. The Governor of Illinois appointed Burris to the vacated seat. There is nothing in the U.S. or Illinois State Constitutions that require the Illinois Secretary of State to approve or sign-off an such an appointment. Case closed! The Dems including Redi know that legally they canot deny Burris this seat. Period. Seat Burris and let's move on.

As for those screaming Burris is playing the race card, get a life and find something worth screaming about to open your mouth about.

Deal? What are Reid and Durbin talking about with a "deal"? It's about the law! Dick and Harry really have no clue about what their doing to they? It's an embarrassment to this country to watch Reid do what ever pleases regardless of whatever laws he's breaking. The man (Reid) is totally incompetent and really should be shown the door. When is Reid up for election? Reid would be a prime target for the Republicans to go after.

Am I the only one that thinks that almost ANYONE else would do a better job as Senate Majority Leader than Reid does?  He is the one that caused the drama by saying absolutely that the Senate would not seat Blago's choice.

I am really tired of Reid's incompetence and wonder why Senate Dems haven't retired him from a post that he is not suitable for?

It's about time. Why do people just love to waste time doing stupid things over and over. Blago has not even been indited let alone convicted of anything. He is the legitimate governor and he appointed a legitimate person. Move on.

Uh..Beverly, it seems that every time a black person doesn't get their way, they throw out the race card.  I've met black people I didn't like because they were a-holes not because they were black, I didn't like them as people. I dont have anything against Burris, he just seems desperate, and doesnt have much pride. The reason they didn't want to seat him is because the governor was trying to sell the seat which tarnishes anyone he might want to put forward. It had nothing to do with Burris's race.

This is/was not, NOT about race.  It is about the powers of the Senate, their power to accept or reject its members.  This is not a case the Senate would want to test in Court. Yep, they cut their loses, will seat Burris and move on.  The Democrats in Illinois will rally around another candidate and beat Burris in the primaries...in 20 months.  

In all likelihood Franken will be seated within the next month as the Republicans will realize it is not in their best interests to keep the legal battle going. They already look like sore losers.  Caroline will be next in line, followed by Biden's replacement and a new Senator from Colorado.  We are looking at 59 Dem Senators.

Sorry to hear about Jack Kemp.  He was also a pretty good football player.

I'm sorry, but I'm just not buying that this was totally innocent.  In any event, its over now.  Let's just hold our noses and seat the guy so we can move on.  And while we're at it, let's get MN settled as well.

seat him and get it over with. there is no legal means to hold him out. i don't like the fact that g-rod put burris in or that burris is acting like a crack addict that has to have the seat like a damn junkie. burris will lose the seat come reelection as he has lost his last 4 elections.

the point is burris cannot be denied the appointment because g-rod is the governor. the illinois senate should have moved more quickly to impeach g-rod then he couldn't have pulled this stunt. there are better selections than burris, but that doesn't matter now.

i don't think burris should get it just because he is black either. i think that is a cop out. bobby rush always want to minimize issues to race.  the issue is more complex than that. it is about principle. i don't think it is good if the senate is all white and under represented by minorities. the senate should have more blacks, hispanics, asians and american indians. it is up to the people of their districts to elect diversity to the senate and house. it ain't so simple bobby as just yelling racism.

who would the people have selected? it wouldn't have been burris. there are others that would have done better in that senate seat. burris is an opportunistic leach. he begged for that position. he is g-rods token appointment and has no self pride. the press has done as much as they can without being as obvious as they could be to pus the race card for news and sales purposes. the press is trying to generate a money making narative.

when can we elect or appoint officials based upon credentials only. burris is the wrong choice. not just because of g-rod, but because the people of illinois would have never elected is egotistical, power hungry butt anyway.

This Burris thing is just the gift that keeps on giving! If the country thought the Republicans were incompetent, lets see what the country thinks about how the Democrats are fumbling through this mess. This is like watching the Keystone Cops!

It's fun watching the network news hacks cheering on the Democrats. Those network hacks know how bad this makes the Democrats look and keep telling the Democrats to just "Make the Burris mess go away". But the Democrats can't make it go away. They have no clue how to deal with it.

It's tradition to have the incoming Presidents home state Senators and Representatives up on the Capital stage when he's sworn in. It's going to be fun to see Burris sitting their smiling while Obama is taking the oath. Burris will be wearing a tricked out red, white and blue button that says "I Love Blagojevich".

Being from Illinois I'm appalled that Burris even accepted the appointment and plan to vote for whoever runs against him in 2010. He'a a power hungry politican who we've rejected FIVE times already; let's now make it 6. For now, though, seat the idiot and let's move on. Obama's got bigger problems than those of the flunkies from his state.

I'm sorry but this was unnecessary dramatics. I hope the Reid and Pelosi are not going to be drama queens for the next 4 years!  They never should have opened their big mouths and said whoever Blagoyacrook appointed wouldn't get in. Ugh! Enough with this soap opera -- doesn't the Senate have other things with which to concern themselves?? Let Illinois sort this out in 2010...and if the Dems don't like Burris, they can run someone against him in the primaries. Enough already! The economy is melting....

Crooks making appointments to the US Senate. What could go wrong with that?

This entire mess could have been avoided if Obama would have stepped up a month ago, shown some leadership, and ask that a special election be held for his old Senate seat. He didn't do that. He didn't do it because it's all about power for the Democrats. Obama knew it may be messy, but his old friend in Illinois, Rod Blagojevich, a man that Obama supported for Illinois governor, and who supported Obama in his Senate run, would appoint another Democrat to the Senate.

Democrats talk about accountable government. Just where is the accountability in this mess?

I was for seating Burris until I saw the video of him saying that God had appointed him.  We don't need another religious nut case running the country. That alone makes him unqualified on mental grounds.

I believe that Burris is the legal appointed Senator from Illinois.  If I were him I never would have accepted the position under those circumstances.  In 2010 he will have to run a campaign and get the seat by the people.  

As far as Harry Reid goes, he should NOT be the Senate Majority Leader.  Where did they get this guy from.  Chuck Shumer would be more appropriate.

Burris should be judged by the people of Illinois as to how well he represents them between now and the next election. Nothing less, nothing more, and not by anyone who is not represented by Burris in Illinois. So if you live in Cal, Mich, Wis, GA, Ind, Mass, NY, TX or wherever (besides that part of Illinois that Burris will represent) shut up!

And if you can't shut up then spend your time doing a little more research on just how clean or unclean your own Senator may or may not be.

Just curious: where are all the state's rights advocates on this? The federal government clearly has not right to impede this appointment if it's made within the law. Congress doesn't get to decide if it's a good idea once the state's crossed it's "T's" and dotted it's "I's"...

WOW!  These sure are some good decision making skills demonstrated by the Democrats.  Way to stand your ground, guys.  And these people are going to run the country??????????  Everyone thought the last eight years was bad.  Hold on to your butt cheeks for the next four!
