In addition to the speech Obama will give tomorrow on the stimulus, First Read has learned -- per a Democratic source in the know -- that he'll also appear at the Democratic National Committee with the man he has tapped to lead the DNC: Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine.

Kaine doesn't officially become DNC chair until Jan. 21.

Kaine is an ok guy. Also somewhat cool and calm similar to Obama. The two will do good things together. Watch for Kaine to have Obama's ear during his Presidency.
i like the selection of kaine but this is not news.
Sore Losers are STILL LOSERS
Especially the WSJ editorial board

From WashingtonMonthly.com:

'...CASTING DOUBT.... Several high-profile, far-right voices have stumbled upon a new hobby: convincing as many people as possible that Al Franken's success in Minnesota is illegitimate.

Joe Scarborough and Ann Coulter are repeating all kinds of nonsense, and the editorial board of the Wall Street Journal, which has never been truth-oriented, is apparently trying to lead the parade with this wretched editorial.

Not surprisingly, the far-right arguments don't stand up well to scrutiny. Which is to say, their complaints are baseless. Earlier this week, Nate Silver went paragraph by paragraph, highlighting exactly why the WSJ editorial is completely wrong. Just as good, Minnesota Assistant Chief Judge Edward J. Cleary, a member of the state canvassing board, wrote an entertaining letter to the Journal, questioning the editorial board's integrity.

As a member of the Minnesota State Canvassing Board, appointed pursuant to statute, I have attended all nine Board open meetings held the past seven weeks. I am knowledgeable about the proceedings as well as Minnesota's election laws. Our members (two Supreme Court Justices, two District Court Judges, and Secretary of State Ritchie) came from all political backgrounds, openly expressed our opinions at the meetings, and can hardly be accurately described as "meek", unless you mean "meek" by New York in-your-face standards. Your groundless attack on Secretary Ritchie reflects poorly on the author; Ritchie worked assiduously at avoiding partisanship in these proceedings.

As to the Board as a whole, all of our major votes were unanimous. We consistently followed the law in limiting our involvement to a non-adjudicative role, declining both candidates' attempts to expand our mandate. Further, we painstakingly reviewed each challenged ballot, some more than once, to confirm that we were ruling in a consistent manner.

One can only assume, based on the tone of the editorial, the numerous inaccuracies, and the over-the-top slam at Al Franken ("tainted and undeserving?") that had Norm Coleman come out on top in this recount, the members of the Board would have been praised as "strong-willed, intelligent, and perceptive."

We won't hold our breath waiting for that editorial to appear...'

Just keep on sniveling, Norm
I'm sure that will help !!

I'll be writing my Rep and Senators asking they vote NO to any stimulous plan. It's pure insanity for the government to spend trillions of dollars we do not have. The economy hawks in Washington, on both the Democrat and Republican side of the aisle, used to get upset when we ran a $100 billion deficit for a year. Now we're talking about running a trillion dollar deficit for every year in the future? Ron Paul was on CNN this morning saying we have to balance the budget to get out of the economic mess. The CNN squawking head throw Nobel Prize winning Paul Krugman's idea that we need to deficit spend our way out this mess. Paul just shook his head and said Krugman hasn't a clue to what he's talking about.
ron paul doesn't have a clue. he isn't an economist. he is of a very few that differs on how we get this economy started again. if you listen to ron paul we will be in a depression. then you can goo to your selected saviour ron paul and ask him, now that i am poor will you loan me the money to buy bread?
ONE TRILLION DOLLARS! I wonder how much that is per person in the US? TEC-SPRING-TX (Sent Wednesday, January 07, 2009 10:18 AM) (from another thread)

Assuming 300 million people, that's $3,000 and change.  Or, if you prefer, six times the average person's tax rebate under the proposed stimulus package.  Boggles the mind, doesn't it?  We're incurring debt at more than six times the level at which we're getting relief.  Someone please tell me --where is all that money going?

I think Congress should pass a veto-proof law to hold themselves (including the president) personally responsible for the national debt incurred while they're in office.  I wonder how fast the deficit would clear up then.  Either that, or it would effectively clear out Congress.  Not a half bad idea, all things considered.

OK, then I respectfully ask you what your solution for this mess would be.  It's all well and good for us to channel our inner Olbermann/Maddow and Limbaugh/Coulter, but I say if you're going to shoot down an idea you should at least offer an alternative.

Of course we could always just triple taxes.

I agree with Krugman. Balancing the budget is a good idea. But based on the current shape of the economy it needs a boost (a big one)at this time. Balancing the budget should be planned for but only after the economy has stabilized. Remember that when speaking of the economy you are speaking of people's jobs, homes and livlihood. Attempting to balance the budget first will do nothing for these people. Attempting to rein in spending at this time whose purpose is to help create jobs, stabalize the home markets and people's livlihoods will do more damage and thereby add to the current economic crises. No jobs, no homes, no livlihood more crime, more destabalization of the country's social/economic condition. Rip the fiber that holds this country together and next follows anarchy. Then what good would a balance budget do for you?

The only issue I have is where the stimulus money is being targeted. If for the consumer fine. If for small business owners who will help create jobs fine. If for government sponsored infrastructure projects to create jobs fine. If for new companies that are well managed and whose purpose is to solve the energy and green problems we face while hiring workers fine. If for educational programs that will truly retrain displaced workers in more technical fields fine. If for large companies who are failing and will continue to lay off workers even if provided a portion of the money because they are mismanaged not so fine. If for the market or banks who will horde the money in order to remain viable so they can pay large CEO salaries not so fine.

The only thing that will stimulate the economy is spending. Spending by consumers and spending by employers to hire more workers who in turn can earn a wage to spend. If the stimulus package does not target these two main cogs of the wheel it will fail and the money will have been wasted.

Did Paul have any suggestions on how to go about doing that? I'll bet he didn't. Get your head out of the sand Noah........George Bush and Ronald Regean created the mess we're in today........the Democrats will get us out.

Cut federal spending by 10% year-over-year, for the next 5 years.
The democrats always get us out of the messes that are created by republican economics.  Republican's can't come up with any alternative solutions because they know they're the ones that brought us into the economic crises we have.  Look at Roosevelt, one fine democrat that had to mop up.  Obama will do the same and when its all said and over with the republicans will say we helped; we all worked together.  I'm not saying one path is right vs. the other but come on!
Just to clarify my earlier comment so that my old friend C A doesn't think I've popped a cork, I'm all in favor of economic stimulus -- it's just that all of the runaway spending on bailouts and unnecessary wars and stimulus that we shouldn't have had to do is making me dizzy. Or, dizzier than usual.

By the way, C A, some of us who live in Wisconsin are actually in favor of seating Burris.  And in terms of clean senators, we have two that are considered above being bought.  If you were referring to me, just to let you know that I was kidding about dirty Illinois politics -- you know I can't resist the opportunity for a riff -- Illinois is no dirtier than anywhere else, of course, but my point is merely that self-interest plays a role on both sides of the Burris issue, and we should never forget that.

Get your head out of somewhere else Diane. America's credit card is limited out. Don't throw smoke by bringing personalities into it. If you're a Obama bootlicker, that's your problem. Reagan and Bush didn't create the problem. Greedy little pigs like yourself that say 'What's in for me!' created the problem. The problem is hardly that the government didn't spend enough. Losers that believe that are the same ones that have a ton of credit card debt, got foreclosed, and can't keep a job.

And FYI, Paul recommended that the US balance it's budget. Sound advice if you ask me.
Two new fascinating polls were released in Senate races. They show Caroline Kennedy in a stunningly weak position in a hypothetical 2010 general election, and that Sarah Palin would lose a Senate bid in Alaska: http://campaigndiaries.com/2009/01/07/poll-watch-21/
