For inauguration, good luck, anarchists

Posted: Thursday, January 08, 2009 3:32 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC’s Joel Seidman
There won't be any anarchist protests come Inauguration Day, according to D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier, but Washington residents will start seeing added police presence for inaugural events starting Jan. 16, when the Metropolitan Police Department will go to 12-hour shifts.

"No anarchist protest groups are planning on showing up" at inauguration events, Lanier said at a briefing on inaugural security for several hundred Washington businesses that.

For the past two presidential inaugurations, protesters kept Washington police busy with demonstrations that breached designated protest areas. Lanier added that more than 10,000 National Guard members will be assisting with security in the region, some 7,000 Guard troops will be deployed in the District itself.

The FBI said the bureau has detected "no credible or specific threats" to the inauguration. But Special Agent Andrew McCabe, of the counter-terrorism division of the FBI's Washington Field Office urged heightened awareness by businesses.

McCabe suggested that hotels and restaurants re-check security plans.  The November terrorist attack in Mumbai, India, he added, had many new lessons on beefing up urban security.

McCabe noted the terrorists had clearly checked out their targets in advance of the attacks to find vulnerabilities. And the special agent suggested for all businesses to be careful in hiring temporary employees to fill in for the expected inaugural crowds.

Lanier estimated that one- to two-million people may descend on Washington for Inauguration Day. Law enforcement officials said they expect between 220,000 and 300,000 on the parade route along Pennsylvania Avenue.

There will be 13 police checkpoints along the parade route. And on the Mall, for the swearing in ceremony, officials have increased the number of Jumbo-tron TV screens from 10 to 22.

There was also an estimate for unofficial inaugural events. Officials said more than 300 unofficial events have been planned in the Washington region.

And to get real-time updates on road closings and access to inaugural events and locations, the city is setting up a special Web site, www.72hour.DC.Gov, where once registered, one can receive alerts on cell phones and Blackberries.

Rule #1 on Day #1 of the new Obama administration: Suspend all civil liberties. Call protestors "anarchists" if someone like the media starts asking questions.
FR -- "No anarchist protest groups are planning on showing up" at inauguration events,

Why would anarchists protest an anarchist being inaugerated?
As far as I'm concerned  the anarchist protesters are already in D.C. They are those who oppose the economic proposals of Obama--The pig headed representatives in Congress.  They don't put country first.
Is Special Agent Andrew McCabe looking for the KKK? They have an agenda too.
Will they secure all the grassy knolls too?

What a surprise. The anachists protested the Republican Presidents inaugeration, but are absent for the Democratic President inaugeration. It is the Chicago Way though I guess.
I have never seen a post saying. "Good Luck Anarchists"!!! Anarchy has no place in a civilized society.  OK, I will lighten up, it was meant as sarcasism.
But the country is in great peril and the last thing we need is some crazy trying to harm our new President. Although Barack may not like the bubble he is now in, it is that bubble that is intended to keep him safe.  Let's get through the inaugration without incident.  Obama can go to Camp David and invite his personal friends. I am aware many Americans, including myself are praying for the safety of the Obama family.

Beverly in Chicago

Protestors are the ones that disagree with the status quo. It's the American way. Also, spending the country back to the Dark Ages is not putting Country First. And, try to grow up.
Not having protestors solves the problem of making certain similar scenes from the '68 Democratic Convention don't show up on national tv.
Barack is special and any protest groups during his inauguartion will not happen. Banning free speech.
Commandment #15 in Barack's anti-Constitution Demo bible.
norm cho and the establishment- are you guys really in america or are you blogging from the soviet union, north korea, cuba or iran. jack bauer from ctu needs to get a hold of you guys. stupid is one thing assanine and anti-american is another. you guys got to be either foreign nationals or illegals waiting for ice to catch up to you. obviously you don't know what the constitution means by civil liberties. jan. 20, 2009 is a day of hope and celebration that we can get our country back and turn it around. we hope success for a president before we tear down a new president in america just as we did with every president before obama. you to unamerican asses can get on a boat or plane and leave our great country (better yet swim). go see what would have happened to your sorry unpatriotic asses if you were in one of the countries i just mentioned, you bums.
