Congress: Republicans warm to Burris

Now, even Republicans who frowned heavily on the Burris appointment appear to be leaning towards seating him. "[Minority Leader Mitch] McConnell, maintaining his call for a special election to fill Obama's seat, would not speculate on how he or his Conference would vote on the matter, although several Republicans confirmed that Burris' installment was unlikely to be blocked. National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman John Cornyn (Texas), for one, said he is in favor based on what he knows ‘today.’ "

In a PBS interview, Nancy Pelosi offered little sympathy for the departing president. “ ‘I think the Bush presidency did great harm to America, with this war, with the enormous budget deficits, the challenges to the Constitution of the United States, the financial crisis that we are in,’ Pelosi said. Pelosi said she was puzzled when, during a recent appearance on ‘The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,’ Bush said his proudest achievement was his attempt to privatize Social Security. ‘It was just curious to me that of all things, that the president would have said something that I think was bad policy, but also that he did not succeed with,’ she said. ‘Frankly, that was the beginning of the end for the Republicans in Congress and led to the election of [President-elect] Barack Obama.’ ”

John Kerry says he's ready to embrace his new job as Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman, and he denies that any reports of his disappointment with being passed over for the nation's top diplomatic post came from him.

Sunday Fun Day! "Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's (D-Nev.) threat to hold a Sunday vote appeared increasingly likely Thursday as neither Republicans nor Democrats signaled any desire to cut a deal over a package of 160 public lands bills that has languished on the chamber floor for more than a year."

Change Congress, a group founded by Stanford professor Lawrence Lessig, has “declared a political ‘donor strike’ pressuring Congress to pass legislation making congressional elections ‘citizen-funded, not special-interest funded,’” a press release says.

BURRIS.   PLAYING THE 'RACE CARD' WINS!
Yeah make the repugnant ones work on Sunday doing the People's Work.  About time to get that lingering public lands bill passed.

Burris should be seated the sooner the better.  We need every Democrat in the Senate we can get so that we can see them make progress against any opposition from the repugnant ones.
Of course republicans are warming to Burris, like sharks warm to blood in the water.

Besides, he shares their religious vision.
Something is up if Mitch McConnell(the man of Wax) is leaning to support Roland Burris. Normally these Republicans will not support anything The Democrats bring up,
As a Democrat, I'm becoming increasingly of the opinion that it's time for Reid to step aside.  At the very least he should quit the chest-thumping grandstanding he's been doing lately (and you have to wonder where his balls were when it came time for him to stand up to Bush).

I think in dealing with Reid and Pelosi is where Obama is going to have to show that "spine of steel" Biden talked about.

gee washington hasnt changed and its till politics as usual....Some like to throw there weight around and try make themselves look like a controlling force....You have better things to do...I would think..Or maybe i shouldnt think...Once again because the democrats are now incharge   the republicans are realizing that they dont have much say any more...Well you have for the last eight years and look what it got ous...If you cant take the heat get out of the kitchen...As a matter of fact get out of the kitchen and let those who will work to get this country back on its feet in....Some of you Dems and rep are just as bad and continue down that path of a power struggle to obviously create news.....Our grand kids, families will be down this path of distruction for ever because of Washington Politcs as usual, tired of hearing that story also...You have done a good job. Get back to what you were elected to do.
Bush said his proudest achievement was his attempt to privatize Social Security. ‘It was just curious to me that of all things, that the president would have said something that I think was bad policy, but also that he did not succeed with,’ she said.

==========

In a few years, that will also be the defining moment for the Democrats as the ponzi scheme known as Social Security becomes bankrupt, and the nation looks at Nancy and company as the ones that killed off any reform to the system.
