Blago continues fight -- with friends

Posted: Friday, January 09, 2009 3:32 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC's Domenico Montanaro
Women,  minorities, crying babies and a man in a wheelchair served as the backdrop on stage at a news conferenece with embattled Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, who the Illinois House voted to impeach today, 114-1.

Blagojevich continued to show a defiant confidence in his innocence.

He called the House's decision to impeach him not a surprise.

"This is not something that came as a complete surprise to me," he said, since the state House considered the idea in 2007.

He quoted The Golden Rule ("Do unto others as you would want done onto you") as well as yet another British poet, Tennyson. ("That which we are, we are," he said, quoting Ulysses.)

He discussed how he has pushed the House, for "real and meaningful" housing, for cancer screenings and other policy initiatives.

"Is that an impeachable act?" Blagojevich asked.

He then introduced the constituents standing behind him.

"I have a job to do for the people... they hired me to fight for them."

*** UPDATE *** NBC's Lauren Appelbaum adds that Blagojevich insisted the House had wanted to impeach in 2007 after he called the House into a special session to work on a failed budget.

"Let me say, to begin with, that the House's action today was, of course, not a surprise," he said. "It was a foregone conclusion. So this is not something that came as a complete surprise to me. It happened kind of fast. But, again, kind of expected, and part of the process that has essentially been the dynamic in Illinois, since I was reelected governor in November of 2006."

The governor focused on times where he and the House disagreed on issues, such as healthcare, and repeated that the House's vote of impeachment was because of what he has done "to fight for families." He asserted his work done for the families behind him should not be impeachable acts.

"So we're going to move forward," he said. "And I'm going to continue to fight every step of the way. Let me reassert to all of you, once more, that I am not guilty of any criminal wrongdoing. That issue will be dealt with on a separate course, in an appropriate forum, a federal court. And I'm confident that, at the end of the day, I will be properly exonerated."

He continued, "In the meantime, I have a job to do for the people. They hired me to not just to say that I'm for things that could help them, but they hired me to fight for them. And I'm going to fight for them every step of the way, because if I didn't fight for them, the results that we've provided for people would not have happened."

But Lt. Gov. Pat Quinn said Blagojevich missed the real reason for the impeachment.

"I wish he had resigned today and I think it is unfortunate he did not resign," Quinn said in a press conference less than a half hour after Blagojevich's ended. "There are times in one's life where you have to put your country first, and I think this is time for Blagojevich to reflect on that and do what is best for the common good and not himself."

This guy Blagojevich. He's bats.
Why does Illinois keep electing crazy people?
Please stop laughing - Rod Blagojevich is no joke to the people of Illinois.  This is sad and serious. We have no power to fight this corrupt man and his personal choice is due to become our senator.  Roland Burris is as corrupt as the man who appointed him. Using sick women and children as props is beneath contempt
Ron Indiana - I was under the impression that Laws supersede Rules

But Guidelines supersede Laws, and Suggestions trumps them all.
Next thing we'll hear from this scumbag is that he's applying for sainthood for all the good things he's accomplished!  What a fine representative of our political system.
just like burris, blago can always find people he can use to play the game he is playing.
Wow. Just wow. Using a dozen human shields to try to defend his behavior. His programs may have helped these people, but the problem is the state of IL didn't and doesn't have the money to pay for these programs. He didn't mention that's why these programs didn't get passed.
Wow, the man recited Tennyson and quoted Ulysses. He's really smart. Did Blagojevich go to Harvard?
He admitted he repeatedly went "around" the legislature to enact programs he felt the people of Illinois needed - who does he think he is?  His title is GOV, not GOD!
Blago - "I have a job to do for the people... they hired me to fight for them."

Democrats. Always fighting. Just can't get along with anyone.
Domenico - what the heck does the back drop have to do with Blagojevich conference?

Are you mildly insinuation something here? I freaken hope not - it would be nice it you left your bigorty off off the blogs.

Thank you and GOD BLESS AMERICA
British poetry, the last refuge of a scoundrel!
He discussed how he has pushed the House, for "real and meaningful" housing, for cancer screenings and other policy initiatives.

"Is that an impeachable act," Blagojevich said.

Ehh, not sure about that one, but sniffing around the intern pool sure is.
7-21

Next Blago press conference, please provide a sack for him to put over his head. I am so sick of this circus. 5 years of investigation and people coming out of the woodwork to narc on him - SOMEONE keep the cameras away and save us viewers.
I get by with a little help from my friends
It's strange B-rod only wanted to taut his your ambitions endeavors to balance the budget. No balancing the budget is not an impeachable act. But, pay to play (your terminology for quid pro quo) is. You can't sell seats. You're the most bizarre, enigmatic con every time you quote a poet; a top coo-coo. No wonder your collegiate say you are unfit.  Can you quote Elvis' Jailhouse RocK?

B-Rod this state is no barter. Stop embarrassing the people. The world is laughing.

This is no joke!

I think there is a history in Illinois of politicians, newspaper reporters, practically anyone who knows Blago of describing him as "crazy" or some other non-clinical term.  You may be looking a a personality disorder, antisocial, which will not go away or listen to reason.  So don't expect rational behavior. Expect the impeachment process to run its course and Blago getting a police escort out of his office.
This mah-mook is right out of central casting of a second-rate mob movie.  E-nuff already with the race
card baiting (Burris) and other Al Sharpton trix & props. Somebody please pass the air-sickness bag...
I'm gonna heav!

In case it's still not clear to someone, politics is theater. The backdrop is very important. Here Blagojevich used disabled adults and children as props. Dispicable, yes. But like I said, it's theater. Kind of like Obama putting up Roman pillars at the Democratic convention.
We the people..........get the government we deserve.

ace:
What people are you talking about? Is it the e-mails sent to suggest his qualifications, Congressman Bobby Rush, or Congressman Danny Davis support now. Maybe you're talking about Cruz case. Yes, it was a gross mistake; however, that was the only scandal throughout this fine man's political career. He was  a great comptroller. Also, the highest vote get-ter downstate.
Believe me it's Chicago who voted the moron into office again--not the people downstate.  I don't know anyone who voted for him the second time around
I think it's the arrogance that is so disconcerting...if you made a mistake Governor, admit it and move on. As the song says, 'you to to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em' and I think it's time for you to fold 'em. Even if you are innocent (and I don't think you are), this fiasco has become such a distraction, you can no longer effectively govern.
What. A. Jack*ss.

That pretty much sums up Blago, don't ya think?
Hey, Chicago has another president in the making!! Name is Elga Jefferies (don't know if woman or man, can't tell these days).  He or She voted "PRESENT"  How does that work for the "PRESIDENT ELECT"?
blago is a bum. every politician from illinois is not crazy or corrupt.

a list came out recently that showed illinois as number 16 on the list of corrupted states. be careful. one of our states maybe before illinois. the south had more states on that list than any other region. it was based on convictions, arrests and investigations. the msm would have you think illinois is the worst. not so.
Hitler gave us the VW and the autobahn, Mussolini made the trains run on time and Charles Keating (of Keating Five fame) loaned his private jet to Mother Teresa.  Give me a break...  Blago is a flake and needs to be gone.
I can't believe this man.  I was waiting for the press conference ... what press conference? a circus! I hope they got enough to put him in jail. I've seen enough.
His press converence was absolutely painful to watch. I was waiting for him to start juggling kittens...
This is a joke.
"I have a job to do for the people... they hired me to fight for them."

And now we wish to fire you.  Why won't you fight for that and resign
So, it is kind of obvious now that Illinois is a Mafia run state.  How would we begin to clean that up?  Also, are all Democrats pro-mafia or just Illinois Democrats?

--Why is it so easy to call one a bigot?  Domenico actually added something important to the story about how Blagovich is cowering behind citizens.  I notice that you don't think Blagovich is a bigot, given the fact that politicians choose the backdrops of people behind them.  I in no way read that Domenico held in any disregard women, minorities, babies or the handicapped.  I can assure you that people's naturally react against being labeled a bigot, and it furthers no cause or advancement to carelessly use the word bigot (or related words) except to make a good Democrat Soldier feel better.  So, why use such a strong word when it is not truly meant or obviously not relevant to the topic-at-hand?  I don't know if you can understand or care to understand where I and others are coming from on this issue.

Especially when so many Democrats are hypocritical in the sense that bigotry is no stranger to that party.
HOW MANY PEOPLE WERE PAID OFF HERE RE ALL OF THIS TODAY.  BETWEEN THE POLITICIANS, POLICE, MEDIA, FDA, LARGE CORPORATIONS, SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS, OH BOY, ALL THAT MONEY, JUST IMAGINE WHAT AMERICANS COULD DO WITH IT!!!!!!  FOR STARTERS;  STAY IN THEIR OWN HOMES, AND TAKE A REST FROM ALL OF THIS B.S.
This guy is good! Wow, best defense is a good offense? Hoever, he does look a lot like "Machine Gun Kelly".
The real reason he is resisting is that
if he goes to jail, they will cut his
hair.

He reminds me of a terrorist.....A loud coward hiding amoung women and children. He did the crime, he got caught, he needs to quit crying and apologize to the American people then take his punishment like a man. The sooner he's out the better for America. He makes weasels look good. My apologies to the weasels.
Blago's staying on because he's still getting a paycheck.  It's as simple as that.  Who's gonna hire him after this?
You have no idea what the people of IL have been through since 2006 with this idiot. For the real insider scoop on this guy, go to www.sj-r.com and read what his former advisor wrote to the impeachment committee.  He is mentally challenged in my opinion
http://www.sj-r.com/blagojevich/x2094357400/Former-adviser-calls-Blagojevich-incapable
Innocent until proven guilty.  I have only heard the allegations but, nothing to back them up.  As for Mr. Quinn, he wants the job and always did.  The appointment of Mr. Burris, a good choice I thought he handled himself like a true and honest gentleman. As a democratic all my life it makes me ill to see the behaviour of our elected officials.
Do you suppose Roland Burris will be receiving a full U.S. Senator's pension after he serves his two years in Washington D.C.?  Nice work, if you can get it.
Rod needs to figure that we the citizens of Illinois are now "unhiring" him.
Just like the IL highway signs where he egotistically plastered his name on every I-PASS location, this guy takes a toll on me everytime I see or hear his name.  It is automatic, you see it coming, and no matter what direction you are headed, he deducts from your mental sanity account.  What a sorry human being.  The child is indeed father to the man.  He is a nine year old denying he stole the cookies, with a piece of chocolate hanging on his lip.
This is a national embarrassment for the state of Illinois, Blago is mentally unstable. Any normal person would have stepped down, every press conference is more insane. Burris is ridiculous he is running around like a clueless fool.,he does not even see the problem its like he took a million dollars from the accused thief. It is a mess, and the sooner the Illinois Senate can outst him the beter, as a democrat I would vote for a Republican if they can prove they are far away from the Blago mess
How Blago thinks that he is "helping" the people of Illinois is beyond me.  Why doesn't he ask "the people"??  He'd be out of there in a heartbeat.

He must really be desperate to be as transparent as parading handicapped and minorities on front of us thinking that will add to his credibility.  He is a greedy, self-indulgent, self-promoting JERK hiding behind the mask of "working for the people".  All he is working hard at is filling his own pockets.  READ THE WRITING ON THE WALL BLAGO!!
It seems doubtful that they have the evidence to do anything meaningful to Blago.  Also, for Illinois politicians to act all high and mighty is kind of crazy considering they all probably do the same thing as Blago...but haven't been caught.  I don't think they have the evidence.
Disgusting!! Not one thing to do with the actual allegations, typical. Actually this clown went to the University of Tampa. I actually worked for his brother ROB in Tampa. I can honestly say the arrogance and narcissism runs in the family! This pair of clown shoes needs to be a real man and step down for the people of Illinois and just go away!
Why does Illinois keep electing crazy people?

For the same reason that the American public kept electing GW Bush. Pure ignorance and apathy.
Hey, it wouldn't be the first time that someone with big brass ones fought off an impeachment.  If history repeats itself, Blago's approval ratings will improve and he won't have any trouble funding his governor's library.

Can governors give pardons?
Go Blago!  He's innocent u fools!!  Set up.  Nice hairpiece.
