Obama-Bush teams test preparedness

From NBC's John Yang
At the White House today, officials of the Bush administration and the incoming Obama administration are dealing with a simultaneous terrorist attack on several major American cities -- bombs targeting transportation, infrastructure and other economic targets.

But it's only a test -- an unprecendented exercise for an incoming administration.

"In the post 9/11 world, it's not just good mannered good government, it's a national security requirement," Bush White House Chief of Staff Josh Bolten told reporters as he stood beside Rahm Emanuel, the man who will move into Bolten's office in one week."As Republicans and Democrats, we disagree on a lot of policy issues, but we agree we want the new team to be as successful as they can be."

Emmanuel praised his predecessor's efforts.

"We all, at the end of the day, work for the American people," he said.

Today's exercise begins with a 90-minute orientation for Obama officials in the secure White House Situation Room in the West Wing basement. Then, following President Bush's final Cabinet meeting, top West Wing and Cabinet agency officials from both administrations go to Room 350 of the Eisenhower Executive Office Building to work through the simulated attack.

At the end of the simulation, which is expected to run about two-and-a-half hours, they will also discuss responses to natural disasters, including tornadoes, hurricanes, a flu pandemic and so on.

Today's exercise is part of an unprecedented transition effort, which began last summer when the Bush administration reached out to both the Obama and McCain campaigns to begin planning.

Turning toward Bolten, Emmanuel said he's worked so closely with him that "I'm going to miss you."

But, he said, "the good news is I have his cell phone" number.

January 20, 2009, The beginning of an error.
Yeah they ignored the memo. That's why it says there was something like 70 ongoing investigations by the CIA and FBI.

Someone needs to start a youtube channel to upload democrats and "so called" journalist using the phrase "It happened on his watch" during the Bush Administration.

BTW thanks for the recession suck hole blue states.
Bush and his administration record speaks loud and clear, It is a record that Americans should never again tolerate and do not want repeated. Now let us get on with our life you cannot live yesterday again today.
We have a new president who truly cares about America and Americans. We have new qualified dedicated intelligent people who will do their very best for you and I.
No matter if you call yourself democratic, republican, independent, whatever, you are an American.
It is time for all Americans to realize that we must work together as one people, we must respect each other. We are in a very real desperate situation here in America. We have men women and children homeless and hungry through no fault of their own, Our investments have been stolen, food, gas priced out of reach, Americans still employed are expected to pay higher taxes for our food, gas, electric, insurance, real estate tax, medicine, and our schools have no supplies and are cutting programs that are needed desperately. We have senior citizens committing suicide
after finding out all their savings have been wiped out and they are too old or not healthy enough to find a job.
Each and every person reading this must realize that  you are needed to help change this terrifying time we are living through.
Perhaps one of you have an idea of how to cool and heat our homes and business. How to start a small business that will service the neighborhood, Perhaps one of you knows how to sew and design clothes. It is unlimited what you can do. Yesterday has come and gone,Please let us all come together as Americans, stand up, speak out. America and Americans need you and your idea's right now.

"With Bolton's statement, we work for the American people, am hoping the republicans are finally seeing the light. They have ignored us these last eight years, pushing their narrow agendas, beliefs etc down our throats, over what is good for our country."

Ok, now I'm confused.  Bush gave us a liberal world record outsource causing corporate tax rate.  He pushed the agenda of robbing from the job creators to somehow magically create jobs (failed at every turn of course, such as the job costing incentive program that now Obama is trying to replay with even greater numbers).  He gave us record taxes, record, fees, record costs, record spending.  He pushed every liberal agenda at every turn and ignored the Republicans over the past eight years.  And you're saying that you hope the Republicans finally see the light?  I'm hoping people start displaying some common sense, we've had one of the most liberal Presidents in US history over the past eight years, simply calling himself a Republican for no other reason than state issues such as abortion that are not federal presidential issues anyway.  It's time for the Democrats to finally see the light, eight years of these liberal agendas has severely damaged the US economy, and almost 53% of the people just voted in someone whose policies are plagiarized directly from Bush, while pretending to be something different, and pretending that it's been a bunch of non-existant Republican policies that have caused the damage.  Seriously, how would you expect Republicans to "see the light" when they've been ignored entirely these past eight years, while an agenda of take everything you can from the job creators has been the norm?  Seeing the light would be finally stepping in to stop this garbage, to push the Republican agenda that will take less from the job creators to reduce outsourcing and bring our jobs back.  They need to finally push their business agendas down our throats, not stop before even starting.  We've dealt with Bush's liberal policies for eight years, it's time to acknowledge that they don't work, stop plagiarizing them and claiming they're new, and stop for some foolish reason thinking that excessive everything demonstrates Republican acts in ant sense of the term.
"Things would have been much different in New Orleans with Katrina if Obama had been President. The media would have guaranteed it."

Yep, we would have been there pulling hundreds of people off of the roofs almost immediately, just like what happened.  We would have been there by the thousands working right off the bat, just like what happened.  And the media would have played it off differently, making the identical response, which couldn't have really gone any differently, seem like something entirely different from what they accused it of being with Bush.  I was there from Houston before the storm had even passed, with the government setting up temporary bridges to get in the volunteers over the flood water while the storm was still overhead.  Being there in person, I can't think of many ways in which the response could have been any better.  The only difference between one event and the next is often times simply the media attention it receives, which changes depending on who was involved and what the popular assumptions are of the day.

Saddam Hussein killed thousands of people - Thousands!  This is documented by the mass graves they found when they got over there.  So to say he was not a threat to anyone but Bush is "Nuts".  How can you believe in Freedom and Democracy for yourself, yet turn a blind eye to the plight of others?  I mean, they weren't American graves; so, who cares, right? (sarcasm)

Would it honestly be better for someone to kill your family one at a time rather than use a weapon of mass destruction?  Personally, I don't see a difference.  It's murder, period.  He had to go.  And he's not the only one.  There is no quick fix.  It won't end with Iraq.  It won't end with Afghanistan, or Hamas, etc., etc., etc.  No one wants war, but I'm afraid we will be at war for a long, long time.
"Bush and his administration record speaks loud and clear, It is a record that Americans should never again tolerate and do not want repeated. Now let us get on with our life you cannot live yesterday again today"

We can't just get on with things when people voted in a man whose policies are direct copies of Bush's, with the numbers inflated to even greater values that can only cause even greater damage.  Bush's liberal business record speaks loud and clear, and yet nearly 53% of the people voted to repeat that record.  And yet you say to just get on with our lives.  We were losing our jobs because of Bush's policies of robbing from the job creators, how do we get on with our lives when we now are faced with Obama who promises to do the same thing but take even more?  We're stuck with a new President who doesn't care in the slightest about the American people, who bribes the population with free money in these incentive programs while leading them to ignore that the money is coming from the people providing them with the jobs.  Can't boost the eonomy when the people are given money and spending it on the businesses that had the money taken from them in the first place, there's no boost to any business out of that, there's still the same robbing policies that have been costing all of these jobs in the first place.  Unfortunately, yesterday has NOT come and gone, it has been voted in to an even greater extreme for four more years, from eight years of failed liberal record taxation and fee policies, to an additional four years that promise to use the same failed policies in even greater form.  It's going to make it very, very hard for many to get on with their lives.
I'm so sick of right wingers trying to blame congress for george bushes failures.

George bush is responsible for the cabinet he appointed during his administation. he is also responsible for making all executive decisions.

Congress often gets blamed for the counties problems because most people know nothing about congress, therefor nobody ever has a "positive oppinion" of congress. congress has never had an approval rating of more than 30%.

think about it, how many of you "congress bashers" can name 5 members of congress?
Bush will go down as the worst President in history.  The good news is he was so bad most of you will live to see it.

Why must we force democracy on people who don't want it? How is it our place to make them like us in every way? I have been to the Middle East and it is not the same as in the West. They think and act differently than we do. Whether Arab, Jew or something else if they are from that part of the world they are different than we who follow European culture.

Sure, I would like to see them have democracy. I would love the whole world be democracies living in peace and harmony but that isn't likely to happen in my lifetime.

Papa Bush sent our forces to bomb Hussein at the request of Kuwait and we did a very good job of making him impotant.

I suppose you don't know that the generals in his army were just a year or two at the most away from a coup that would have taken Saddam and his brats down for good. Lives would have been lost but they would have been Iraqi lives not American lives.

We don't live in an ideal world where everyone HAS to be just like us. As soon as we recognize that it is okay to be not like America we will get along alot better than we have over the last 8 years. A little diplomacy and some sanctions might have expidited the overthrow of Saddam but GWB couldn't wait for diplomacy he had his legacy of great war hero to be concerned with. Other wars have, for the US, been defensive. This one in Iraq was offensive.

By the way we should have gone after Bin Laden and the Taliban instead. I am not opposed to war if it is in self defense. The Iraq war was not self defense it was Dubya's revenge.
What is it with the repukes always blaming liberals. Why do you repukes hate your fellow americans so much. You are a bunch of gutless cowards that attack fellow americans. Why can't repukes ever take responsibility for your actions. Why do repukes always blame, whine, and cry it always someone elses fault. Why do you repukes even bring up liberals? Why don't you attack our real enemies the terrorists instead of attacking your fellow americans. The amount of ditto head thinking is truely amazing. Repukes actually revel in their ignorance. They would rather be stupid and petty and attack fellow americans then ever fight or serve this great country. Every time one of you repukes tries to blame liberals, ask yourself, who are you helping: the terrorists or your republican party. Actually reading the republican responses, one has to ask who are the real terrorists. Republicans that questions people's patriotism, demonizes liberals, and uses god to justify their actions are anti americans. I have one question to you republican haters: Who do you hate more american liberals or middle east muslims? The one common thread I see on all republican responses is they hate anyone that does not think like they do. HATE it makes a republican.
It's hard for me to believe that Bush was some how this great President who in 25 years will be remembered as the saviour of America. He and his admin have gotten away with any number of impeachable offences. Katrina being but one of them. Not sending out aid for 48 hours? C'mon...even the most strident repubs have got to admit that that's a BAD way to deal with a national tragedy.
I'm also in love with how Bush has had nearly unwaivering support from the media in general until about a year ago, and how this has been turned into the media being against him from the beginning. The nearly unwaivering support from the right. All of the support from the right AND the left during his first term and a half? And you all talk about the left spinning things to their advantage, and the media getting Obama elected? Who do you think got Bush elected the first time around?
My instincts are that Obama has the iron fist in the velvet glove. I believe that he has thought through this whole presidency business for many years now. So fear not people. We are in good hands - a good Machiavellian wolf(our wolf) in sheep's clothing, who will not flinch to pull the trigger on terrorists or rouge nations.
