Hot tickets in the Windy City

Posted: Wednesday, January 14, 2009 2:54 PM by Carrie Dann

From NBC's Carrie Dann
He hasn't been sworn in yet, but Roland Burris is already taking advantage of one of the privileges of being a United States senator.

He scored inauguration tickets.

Today, Burris presented 30 of the tickets to a class of eighth graders at Paderewski Elementary School in Chicago. But as a United States senator-to-be, he's got plenty more to dole out to his future constituents.

After it became clear that he would be seated as a senator, Burris received the full allotment of inaugural tickets afforded United States senators, according to a spokesman for the senator-designate. Each senator receives about 400 of the coveted invitations for distribution to constituents and elected officials in their home state; House members receive about 200.

Burris noted during a Monday press conference that, as of mere weeks ago, it was unclear if he would even be able to attend the inaugural ceremony himself.  "I was waiting on my tickets from Obama," he joked.

Roland Burris is the OJ Simpson of 2009; able to beat the system but can’t seem to get past public opinion. I heard a selective few say that he followed the Rule of Law, well so did OJ and he was found Not Guilty according to the Rule of Law.

Roland is nothing more than a Serial Loser incapable of connecting with the people of his state; he is so tremendously bad that he can’t even articulate what plans he has to help the people of Illinois all he does is fumble around his words while at the same time showing how much of a protectionist he is of Blago.

If Democrats were smart they would have someone declare their intent for this seat right away before Roland Burris the Clown and his traveling circus get any more bright ideas.

You won't have George Bush to kick around anymore !!
Roland Burris knows how compelling and  immediate action  in such an urgent matter as we need to invest in creating new jobs to get our economy going again. It's so ironic , in fact, I'm laughing at B-Rod his plan backfired.  Despite what people who really don't want Senator Burris; they may now see he's not  corrupt neither is he an Uncle Tom. No one can steal our joy.
I'm sure glad our elite leaders in the House and Senate can take advantage of all the rights and privilages bestowed upon them by the American voters. Democrats whine and moan and gnash their teeth when ever a CEO shows off one of their benefits off to the public. But when it comes to politicians, the Left in this country treats them like Royality. Take Caroline Kennedy for an example. The Lefts Heros seem to be some of the most unworthy, most corrupt, most ignorant set of people ever to come down the road in this country.
Richard, Washington State:

By the way Richard. Did you know that the U.S. rates 15th in the world (per capita) on student class size for studetns 13 and up with an average of 19 students per classroom (teacher). Even Russia beats the U.S. in class size with an average of 11 students per classroom (teacher). Would a teacher who can provide better individual attention not be a resource Richard? Or does the fact resources have little to do with educational performance (according to you) make class size a mote point whether a country averages 5 kids per clasroom or 50.
I got my invitation but can't go. It is too far for me to travel (cost), I really don't like huge crowds, and I have to work (Best to do now while one still has a job). So Senator to be Burris has tickets and has already given some to school kids. How thrilled they must be. Just think what they can tell their grandkids.
Roland Burris is the OJ Simpson of 2009; able to beat the system but can’t seem to get past public opinion.
************

Then you don't know Illinois voters very well. Burris will more then likely win his seat in 2010 when it goes to the voters. Illinois has a long history of putting corrupt people in office, and that won't stop now. Burris is just another useful idiot for the man the controls that state with an iron-fist, Mayor Richard Daley of Chicago.
How is this news?  Why WOULDN'T Burris get a full allotment of tickets? Or is he now to be treated like a second-class citizen?

By the way, to the "serial loser" who posted above, comparing Burris to OJ is abhorrent, and smacks more than a little of racism.  If Burris was white would you make that same comparison?  Why do I doubt it?  Blago is the true villain here.  Burris may be a lot of things, including a serial loser, but he is definitely not OJ Simpson.
eagle1176 - Just think what they can tell their grandkids.

They got tickets they can sell to some bozo on e-Bay?
I hope Blagovich can score a ticket or too.  I mean, what for is Pay to Play politics if you can't score some inauguration tickets from the guy you appointed.
you right wingers are pathetic for opposing roland burris in any way shape or form, he did nothing wrong!! now be mad about a new subject because guess what the election is over and barack and the democrats won
"I was waiting on my tickets from Obama," he joked.

He was not joking. Blago would force Obama to make it happen or.......
Beverly, you stated “no one can steal our joy”. What joy do you speak of and exactly who are you speaking for? Surely you don’t think most of the people in Illinois particularly African Americans are in support of the way he got this seat, or do you? If you think African American sees him as an Uncle Tom no, no, no Dear, nothing could be further from the truth he’s much too arrogant for that. And as far as him being corrupt wellllllllll, let’s just keep in mind the seat was for sale and he now owns it. Yeah, yeah, yeah I heard him say he didn’t have any money to buy the seat. While that may be true, it appears he sold his sole for a reason.

It’s hard for most people to understand why anyone would want his/her name associated with this mess and this is a mess. With 97% of your peers having little to no respect for you what’s the point? Believe me, without respect in Washington DC, his time there is pretty much meaningless. I can’t image him being in a position to do anything for Illinois? You spoke of jobs, think about it, the jobs coming to Illinois will be because of the President of the United States and Dick Durbin and not Roland Burris. I’ve tried to think of a reason why he would say yes to Blogo and the only answer I could come up with is that this is the last opportunity for him to fill in the blank spaces he left on his tombstone for additional accomplishments. Thank God he is only completing the term and of course you realize Beverly he cannot and will not win the senate race statewide in two years. Although I have supported all of Mr. Burris’ campaigns including his many many unsuccessful races, I cannot and will not support him if/when he runs for the senate seat in two years; not even for dog catcher.
THANK SENATOR BURRIS FOR THINKING OF THE CHILDREN IT WILL BE A THRILL I AM SURE. I AM SO GLAD THAT OVER I WANT YOU TO WORK HARD TO HELP US HERE IN ILLINOIS WE ARE WITH YOU . GOD BLESS YOU P.S MOST OF US WHO CAN'T GO ARE HAVING OUR OWN PARTIES . I AM HAVING BBQ ,BEER CHIPS AND DIP A 56 INCH T.V AND TAPING IT THIS WILL BE SO EXCITING . GOD BLESS MR.OBAMA AND FAMILY OH I WON'T FORGET JOE AND HIS LOVELY WIFE.
I wonder how many "hot tickets" will be given away for the war crimes trials of "Brainless Bush" and "Chump Change Cheney??" The Obama-Biden Government cannot move our nation forward. If justice is allowed to fall backwards. Think about this very carefully America! The Holder Justice Department must be allowed to carry out the law, or it means nothing!
