Just after Biden was sworn in as vice president, the Bush presidency Web platform, WhiteHouse.gov, disappeared and with a click of the refresh button, the Obama Presidency Web platform appeared.

The featured item headline: "Change has come to America" over a close up of Obama's new official photo.

*** UPDATE *** There's also a blog, and it already has five posts, dated "TUE, JANUARY 20, 12:01 PM EST.

*** UPDATE 2 *** In one of those blog posts is Obama's first proclamation, declaring Jan. 20, 2009 a National Day of Renewal and Reconciliation: "NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, by the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim January 20, 2009, a National Day of Renewal and Reconciliation, and call upon all of our citizens to serve one another and the common purpose of remaking this Nation for our new century."

What was the song they played in DC ?
With this large gathering in DC, why is the
Pledge of Allegiance not recited at the
Inauguration?
"Change has come to America" I have faith, I have hope, but I am watching very closely. I have heard the rhetoric before, but I have watched as political chess & the lining of pockets already full has taken the place of leadership, honesty & common sense. It hopefully will start with one man, one President, but we all must do our part.
The Pledge is not said because it is a relatively recent addition to the oaths that a citizen should know.  It was only enacted in the 50's, and therefore has never been a part of the official inauguration events.

Plus, it's kind of silly
I have been sad and never expected the feelings of the 60's to return, when I offered my services to others because I wanted to do that. I have always felt good about giving.  I watched my country get greedy when Pres. Reagan took office.  I am delighted that my former feelings have been reignighted and I will again dedicated myself to others!

Thank God, the 8 year nightmare is over.
I never heard his voice on the TV nor read his words in newsprint.
I just hated him for unjust wars and bringing down this nation, hated by the rest of the world.

GOOD RIDDANCE TO BAD RUBBISH
I love Barack, but I really don't like that official picture of him. I mean they could've done a better one. Frankly.
CMSHAKER - Hate is a pretty strong word in this new era of love.  Get with the program!  At least you are still alive and no terrorist attacks happened after 9/11.  It's not an easy job and you will never understand what Bush did and why because you don't want to.
Gerrie is right....after the last 8 yewars, we should be worried that the picture isn't a good one!
As a Canadian neighbour, I watched this morning's with a sense of optimism and change that I have not felt for decades.  Barack Obama strikes me as a man who has a very strong conscience and who realizes that he is there "for the people".  I think that we will see significant positive change in the U.S. and in our countries' relationships over the next few years.  Good luch Mr. President!
It was in God's hands, the Lord is lifting President Obama up and as he lift him we will receive the same blessings.

We must not hate Mr. Bush, for such a bad job that he and his staff served America.  They did not have a clue how to run an office nor a country...
Re: Chrissy and song played, it is called Air and Simple Gifts by composer John Williams (Star Wars, Superman, Jurassic Park etc).
Today is a great day in American history!!!  We will forever more be a changed nation.  Let us not only be a witness to this much needed change, but stand and be an active participant.
May God bless our new President Barack Obama and let their be peace on earth.
President Obama can't do it on his own, just as Bush didn't mismanage or cause chaos on his own...in this case it takes a group, however, the leader takes the brunt end of things.  I NEVER liked President Bush doing his first term and I voted for him. His second term didn't recieve my vote.  I had never heard of Obama until he started running for President, but it was something about him that struck me with grace.  I knew he was the man America and the world as a whole needed doing this time. I'm not a religious person per say, but I do believe everything and everybody works for the goodness of he that created us and there is a time and season for everything and everyone.  And this is Obama's time and his season to work for the goodness of him.  I also believe that Bushs' do's and don'ts were to happen so Obama could come forth.  G-D, God, Allah, The Creator, High Supreme, whatever you want to call him allows many things and cause many things to happen so He can be seen.  Peace and much love to all.
It would be nice if people like Tom Brokaw would stop the continuous conversations about race and bigotry at a time when the new President is looking for healing and unity.

As they were preparing to swear in the president,  I so wanted Mrs. Obama to hold up that Bible and shout... Yes, this is a Bible!
AT LAST, OUR LONG NIGHTMARE IS OVER!

I will wish the Bush family well as fellow human beings.  However, as for whether I have any respect for the now FORMER president (damn, that felt good to write), one should remember that respect in any position is EARNED, not BESTOWED, and the recipient must be worthy of it.  Not by one event or act, but a preponderance of acts in the course of their duty.  Bush never really earned respect coming into office, and what respect he earned briefly during the tragedy of 9/11 he squandered through his own ideology, hubris, arrogance, and self interest.

Barack Obama has earned respect by the significance of his ascension to the Presidency.  However, he too must prove himself worthy of the respect we have given him.  As Americans, it is our duty to hold him to the same standards of accountability to which we've held former president Bush (man, I just love writing that).  We should be just a critical, just as juandiced, and just as scrutinizing as we would any other president.  And if Barack Obama proves himself unworthy of our respect, that respect should just as readily be withheld by virtue of our vote and our voice.  I urge all of us posting here now and in the future to remember the words of another great president (who happens to be Republican, by the way), Theodore Roosevelt...

"To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, it is moraly treasonable to the American public."

TODAY WE CELEBRATE.  TOMORROW THE WORK BEGINS ANEW!

Maybe a sign of things to come, as Dow has huge loss day.  Smart investors apparently not convinced any real change is coming.  Do you think any liberal news agency will report on this today!  Nope don't want to put a damper on the party!
