Symantec CEO for Commerce?

From NBC's Chuck Todd

One of the candidates to be President Obama's Commerce Secretary, retiring Symantec CEO John Thompson, appears to be the leading candidate now.

He's been dispatched for meetings with key members of the Senate for, shall we say, pre-screening.

Some background:
-- Former President Bush appointed him to the National Infrastructure Advisory Committee (NIAC), to make recommendations regarding the security of the critical infrastructure of the United States.
-- Before Symantec, he was with IBM.
-- An FEC database search indicates Thompson has been a reliable Democratic donor to just about every major candidate in the last 10 years, with a couple of Republicans mixed in who have had some jurisdiction over issues related to Symantec.

Another stellar appointment by Obama.
Thompson = Another Democratic hack.
They need to ask him if he was involved in any way, either as a private citizen, or in his role at Symantec, in the NSA spying on blogsites that included reading metadata behind people's on-line signatures.  If he was, then I'm opposed, and all bloggers here and everywhere should be opposed.  Not prosecuting those demons is one thing; rewarding them is another thing completely.
From an earlier post...

"By the way....I hope the Police and Firefighter's Unions take note of the GITMO closing.
A complete slap in the face to those who died on 911.
Absolutely shameful, that an American President would be more worried about and have more compassion for terrorists than he would for the victims of 911 and their families."

Relax, J. Merle, and take a deep breath.

President Obama ordered the prison at Gitmo closed.  He never said a damn thing about letting anyone go!
Chuck:
Why not just give each payroll tax paying citizen of the country a $15,000.00 rebate check to stimulate the economy. Forget the banks. Put enough money into peoples hands that they can afford to spend most of it. A person could put a downpayment on a home. Buy a new car or large appliance. Make it enough to actually do some good and it will be spent. Just a thought. Any comments?

Agreed, Anna.  I'd also be interested if he's done any lobbying recently.  I'm already opposed to Obama's bending of his own rules (a day after he made them) regarding the DOD appointment.  I don't want to see anymore "exceptions" made in the name of expediency.

See, we don't consider it unpatriotic to criticize OUR president, unlike a certain other party whose initials are G.O.P.

Since money is alway's going to be a problem even though opposing are and have been on a spending spree of the last adm, shame on them Obama should just bogard this term and get 3 trillion dollar's up front and use this for his term and do anything that can help America.Yet use alll the oversight possible even lowering the whole Federal Government'spay raise of next year,to all the Congressional Demorcrat's grow up for once for the Republican's have been using and abusing their voting power for years sign yes to his plan and don't look back we who voted for you trust this Administration he will get most of it back before he spend's it all we might actually get to be competitive in the open market;s again, this is a no lose situation except if you'll do nothing Bush called you'll a do nothing Congress and please stop with the it will be hard and it won't work slogan's this was a change Campaign if you wanted to be treated like the last 8 years you should have voted for McCain yet Obama it would be a good Idea to get McCain invovled in the process of doling out the money I believe him on the pork,he probably would work good in the oversight committeeload the money pick one more from his party and two from yours and a 3 out of 4 get's to okay were the money is placed/1 trillion to be divided for Homes job'sand health care, automatic first,500 billion on hold for disaster's since soem pork might be used that's where they really come in see if the money doesn't really benifit people of City'sa no go put 700 billion up for our rainy day's what's left their should be a poverty plan for the less fortunate we must save this Country not make cry-babies Mr.President use your power not as ruthless as Bush but he had a way of making people vote on his behalf let's all make History together if someone doesn't like it they should have one the Job.
Why not reich????
Ah, he's black. I was wondering why this obscure CEO was picked.
How can he nominate someone who was previously associated with Bush?  The fact that Bush appointed him to a committee should be grounds for automatic rejection.

This guy is tainted by his association with the Bush administration.  My guess is that he participated in some secret meetings, so we'd better get the transcripts.  If they are available.

Didn't Symantec benefit from the police action on terror and the border incursion into Iraq?
Anna Molly and Jawillie:

You mean it's OK for me to want Obama POLICIES to fail?  That it is, in fact, patriotic?

Damn, thanks for the reinforcement!  I appreciate it.  Your affirmation that I'm not unpatriotic for hoping Obama POLICIES fail is heartwarming and encouraging.

That being said, among other things I HOPE that the Freedom of Choice Act fails, I HOPE that the stimulus package will fail or be drastically scaled back and I HOPE that people will see the ridiculous folly of appointing a climate envoy and that somehow that will fail. I hope he fails to close Gitmo within one year.  I hope that he fails to make even one appointment to the Supreme court.  I hope he fails to lure Republicans into passive acquiescence to POLICIES that they disagree with in the name of "bi-partisanship".

I don't think hoping that any one or all of these things fail means I hope the country fails.  In fact, I HOPE it means that this country is still open to dissent, not just the "right" kind of dissent by the "right" people.
What happens to the "Big Bopper" Bill Richardson? I thought Obama was holding the position for him until his legal toubles were finished. I thought he would name another Hispanic if not Richardson.
welcome to changeville folks

He MUST be clean, after all he donted $$$$$$$$$$$ to democants.  And ONLY bought a very few repubs when it couldn't be avoided.

Maybe if he comes out now and states that he didn't realize he was buying any repubs and it was all just a simple little mistake.  And we all know buying influence from democants is A-OK!!
