Saltsman, wait for it, blames the media

From NBC's Abby Livingston
Despite news organizations coming out with surveys showing his chances are slim, Chip Saltsman said in an interview today with MSNBC’s Contessa Brewer that he thinks he is on the road to becoming the next chairman of the Republican National Committee. And if he doesn’t, he blames the media.

The interview began with Saltsman being asked if he had a chance on Friday, he answered, “I do. I think we'll be competitive on Friday. We have not been running the same campaign as some of the other folks, rolling out endorsements. That's not been our strategy from the very beginning. We've got enough support to get on the ballot on Friday. I think we're going to surprise a few people Friday at the election.”

(Although, there is a section of Saltsman's Web site labeled "endorsements.")

Saltsman, who has previously worked for Mike Huckabee and former Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, hit troubled waters in his campaign for chair in December, when he distributed a CD that included a song previously played on Rush Limbaugh called, “Barack the Magic Negro.” At least one RNC voter has cited that CD as a reason for not supporting Saltsman.

Video: GOP chair nominee Chip Saltsman defends his Christmas mailing of the "Barack the Magic Negro" song.

He told Brewer, “It was -- it was a parody Christmas gift, and I sent it out without even thinking about what was on it… Obviously, when you do something like that, you don't want to offend a lot of people when you do. That's something you don't want to do. And, you know, hopefully that we'll move on, talk about the future of the party.”

He then blamed the press for the issue: “I think it highlighted a couple of things -- one, that we're definitely not playing on a level playing ground with the media on that issue.”

He then cited a Los Angeles Times column as the source of the phrase, and wondered why the blowback had not also hit the author of the piece.

“I mean, there was no outrage when the L.A. Times article coined that phrase,” Saltsman said. He followed up, asking, “Contessa, I'm asking you, were you outraged when you read the article in the L.A. Times a year and a half ago?”

An interesting point, but that author isn't running for RNC chair.

Saltsman is deranged. Doesn't he know the media has no accountability?
The "Media". I love it when the media trashes someone for weeks/months at time, then they take a poll on the subject, and low and behold, what a surprise, the trashee's numbers just aren't that great. Then the "media" acts all pompous that they were "right".

You guys know any like that?
So when is the Media going to actually cover what's in this huge trillion dollar bill? I see the talking heads on MSNBC for example not having a clue what the bill is about. I know it's above your pay grade, but at least you can do is find someone with a brain to describe the elements of the package. Maybe even mention that not much of the money is even going to the 'infrastructure' Obama babbled on and on about for the last six months. Could you do that for us?
The media hates having their inadequacies pointed out to them. It makes them feel, wait for it, inadequate.
Hey, Saltman, your chances are slim to be the dysfunctional leader of the  even more dysfunctinal Repukes!

But perhaps you're the best that the Repukes have to offer......you are a disgusting RACIST PIG!  The Racist mantra of the Repukes begins with the OXYCONTIN abuser whose nerves were fried by his drug abuse, and therefore he can't even hear his own rants!

Good Luck Repukes!......

2010 will be a sure fire win for all Democrats!
Saltsman sounds perfect for the RNC. A loser for a loser. Perfect.
"Barack the Magic Negro" is a very funny political parody based on the writings of a black liberal columnist (who first used the term "magic negro") about black political figures such as Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson.

Limbaugh also predicted that the term would be negatively attributed to him and that it would be characterized as racist.

Rush was right.
if there was racist intent or not, if the song is in fact racist or not.  The decision to distribute it, as an elected public official is a reflection of terribly poor judgement, on a par with biden's judgement in commenting on the race of gas station attendents.  In both cases it should bar the individual, who has shown not just poor taste, but terrible judgment, from being elevated to any position.  Of course it never stopped joe-the-mouth and maybe it won't stop this idiot.
Standard operating procedure for the GOP when they get caught looking like fools.  Blame the media.  Not that the racist CD that he sent out for Christmas to his friends had anything to do with it.

And isn't it funny that whenever Republicans are on the losing end of an issue, they blame the media?   Is that a requirement for registering as a Republican, pathelogical self-delusion?

Pretty Maids And J Wells

I can assure you that Anna Molly and CA are not the same person. But as CA has admitted their souls come from the same star. I know, because it was I who created the stars in the Universe. No, I am not God. God created the Universe and only gave me the assignment to create the stars from which souls are born. There are good stars from which souls are born and there are bad stars from which other souls are born. I know what type of stars from which your souls were born Pretty Maid and J Wells, and I certainly know from which star Anna Molly and CA's souls were born. And theirs was the same star, a good star.
All the racism from hilsy and her wrecking crew doesn't disqualify her.  Just a thought, but honestly, her racism was deeper and repeated for months on every front.  Everyone forgave that right?  after all, the big question is: "will working, hard working WHITE voters in appalachia support him"?  Maybe the repubs will reject him, as a repudiation, and show better judgement than the democants who embrace hilsy??
Rogers Park, Chicago Il:
'...Barney Frank - Just short of a PhD at Harvard
Chuck Schumer - Harvard Law School Grad
Max Baucus - BA in Economics + a JD from Stanford

These are the guys that got us into the mess...'

Actually....
George Bush was the President the last 8 years
For 9 of those 8 years the Republcians controlled the House, the Senate and the Supreme Court

Isn't this BUSH'S RECESSION ?
We've had 8 years of tax cuts for the Rich
8 years of VooDoo economics
8 years fo the BIGGEST DEFICITS in History
(courtesyu of the WORST PRESIDENT IN HISTORY)

Think hard now, Rogers Park, WHO got us into this mess ?
(jsut don't hurt yourself, thinking)

Page from the Republican SOP-----Blame the media, we can only trust faux news.
Richard, Washington State:
'...Limbaugh also predicted that the term would be negatively attributed to him and that it would be characterized as racist.

Rush was right...'

Why would ANYBODY think that using racially insensitive words would be viewd negatively ?
I think Rush also told a Black caller to 'Take that bone out of your nose'

Who would consider that a racial comment ??

Rush is not a racist, he's just STUPID !!

PS
'Negro' is a little out of date
The Republican party has fallen. The conservitive doctrine has failed. Capitalism only makes the rich richer. It is time for the masses to take the power back. It is time for a government by the people for the people to take control of industry. Long live the peoples party, long live the OBAMANATION!!! All hail the our beloved leader!!
Oh goody, another good ol' boy running the GOP. The gifts keep coming. Dems. in power even longer now.

Being the party of the white anglosaxon protestant male southerner the GOP would be selecting just the right person by picking the chipper.
Limbaugh also predicted that the term would be negatively attributed to him and that it would be characterized as racist.

Rush was right.
Richard, Washington State

That's because it's how the media wants to report it. Fits the template.

Do you realize that the media (ABC) interviewed Rod Blagojevich for 17 minutes yesterday, and not once mentioned that he's a Democrat? If he were a Republican, the media would have had banners, ballons, and dancing bears with signs that said "This no-load is a Republican!".
The song is no more racist than when Joe Biden referred to Barack Obama as clean and articulate.  I never thought Biden was racist when he said that and Democrats defended him as "just bein' Joe."
So when is the Media going to actually cover what's in this huge trillion dollar bill? I see the talking heads on MSNBC for example not having a clue what the bill is about. I know it's above your pay grade, but at least you can do is find someone with a brain to describe the elements of the package. Like To See It (Sent Tuesday, January 27, 2009 4:59 PM)

Since you challenged the media why not put your money where your mouth is and go through it line by line and explain it to all of the rest of us including, obviously, MSNBC? From your attitude you know the bill in intimate detail and can intellegently discuss the pros and cons of each point in it, right? If not than, welllll just shut up you pompus ass.
Seeing no offense in the title, "Barach the Magic Negro" doesn't mean you're a racist, it means you're stupid.
It is never their fault so it must be the fault of the media. Yeah right. If you believe that there is a bridge I know of in New York City I would like to sell you. Cheap.
Richard, Washington State:

I don't want to make assumptions; but based on your post, I am compelled to ask,

Why is it when White Republicans are politically incorrect, it is 'reverse discrimination'?  Doesn't it seem a little odd?  Blacks can poke fun at their blackness.  Whites can poke fun at their whiteness.  But, I think we can all agree that when I White Republican pokes fun at a Black Democrat - it's simply not funny.  And in so doing, Saltsman thought he would 'draw in the base' constituency, further perpetuating the myth that partisanship is 'color blind'.  While the joke may or may not be funny, it is absolutely NOT funny when a 'white supremicist' shares it.  Or at least this was my perception of the 'media blowback'.  I could be wrong.
Go ahead, GOP, pick this goofball for your chairman and go further into oblivion.
As an African American, I'm flabbergasted!! You gotta be kidding me, right? If this lowlife doesn't get to be the head of the RNC, he's going to blame the media?!? Whatever happened to taking responsibility for your actions? I'll bet he didn't think about it when he distributed that CD to his colleagues and played that same CD on Rush Limbaugh, now did he? I said this once before that the RNC needs to reach out to minority voters like never before after this historic Presidential Race, and this guy has convinced the 4% of African Americans and the 1/3rd of Hispanic Americans to think twice and real hard about EVER voting for the GOP EVER again. At this rate,The Democrats won't have to worry about a filabuster-proof Senate AND House, because the RNC will have talked their way out from EVER being elected for anything EXCEPT Leading Pooper Scooper(Dog Catcher is way too goood for them).
Richard, Washington State (Sent Tuesday, January 27, 2009 5:05 PM) - Limbaugh also predicted that the term would be negatively attributed to him and that it would be characterized as racist. Rush was right.

Richard:

And I wonder why that is? That Rush was right the term was attributed to him and that it was characterized as racists. Have any clues? And would you say that Rush was terribly upset about this or perhaps somewhat pleased as it added to his   divisive and confrontational strategy that he knows is his meal ticket to the bank. What do you think Richard?
Richard, did you move to Washington State from Corpus Christi,Tx? You and Jerry have so much in common! Also, why do you capitalize State, are you leaving off the last word(s) of your residence? Washington State_________   ____________.
Since you challenged the media why not put your money where your mouth is and go through it line by line and explain it to all of the rest of us including, obviously, MSNBC? From your attitude you know the bill in intimate detail and can intellegently discuss the pros and cons of each point in it, right? If not than, welllll just shut up you pompus ass.

moir (Sent Tuesday, January 27, 2009 5:31 PM)

I would, but I doubt you'd understand it.

Besides, it's the media that said they should have examined the Iraq war issue more because it didn't turn out well. And it's the media that said that they didn't watch the banks close enough before their collapse last year.

So now is the Media's big chance. Obama and the Democrats are rushing the stimulus bill through Congress, and the media stands their dumbfounded again, not even looking into what's in the bill, will it work, and is it worth it. My guess, just like the other issues, the stimulus issue is too complex for the media. They're more interested in what Sarah Palin wears and what Rush Limbaugh says. And by the looks of things, so are you.

Saltsman has the one required trait for GOP chairmanship; he's a bigot.
Clara et al:

The parody song, based on a term used by an African American in a newspaper column, does not poke fun at blacks or blackness. It simply comments on a black vs. black situation.  It is not racist in any way.  The song parodies and comments on a black person referring to another black person as a "magic negro".

Limbaugh is castigated because he is judged pre-emptively as a racist by ignoramuses and therefore anything that he says relative to blacks is racist.  That is wrong because he is not racist, regardless of what MSierra says, and the song is not racist.

It does poke fun at Al Sharpton and makes a political and social point.

And Clara, I'd like to further refine something you are saying.  If you're paying attention to TV etc. these days, it is OK for whites to poke fun at whites, it is OK for blacks to poke fun at blacks AND it's OK for blacks to poke fun at whites.  It's not generally OK for whites to poke fun at blacks.

That being said, "poking fun" isn't necessarily racist unless you want it to be.

CA: Limbaugh looks for and uses material just like Jon Stewart, Colbert or Bill Maher, for that matter.  Doesn't mean it's racist, sexist or in Maher's case whatever term prejudice against religion is termed as.

And of course, he's trying to stir things up. And of course he promotes himself.  Did you actually need someone to verify that for you.  It's pretty obvious when you listen to his show and he doesn't apologize for promoting himself.

What is the matter with that and how is it different than anyone, from either side, that capitalizes on the entertainment aspect of politics?

I seem to recall a pretty good concert in front of the Lincoln Memorial a little while back.  Those people were not only celebrating, but also promoting themselves and their politics.  No difference and I considered at least one of them divisive and confrontational.

A. Brocco:

Actually I use Washington State to make it abundantly clear that I'm not from Washington D. C.

"P.S. Negro is a little out of date".

I know MSierra.  That's what Rush was trying to say, especially since it was used by a black liberal columnist for the L.A. Times.
the repulicans still want to push bush's failed economic policy. acting like children having a temper tantrum due to they can not have their way. everyday they hold it up means the economy does not jump start. instead of the the media being enablers to them they really need to call them out. how come the media did not call out call out bohner when bush was spending all that money on the war? but it's ok to go after obama when he's trying to something positive
I remember Contessa when she was doing bits for Imus. She didn't fit in with the I-Man and she doesn't fit in here. I guess she's still under contract.
Done with the Rush stuff, folks.  Hammer away.
when you are reading this dont stop or something bad will happen! My name is summer i am 15 years old i have blonde hair, many scars no nose or ears..i am dead.if you dont copy this just like from the ring, on 5 more sites.. or..i will appear one dark quiet night when your not expecting it by your bed with a knife and **** you. this is no joke something good will happen to you if you post this on 5 more pages
Limpbag needs to go get his drugs and then blame the maker for his problem.  He is nothing but a self annointed POS.  It is really unbelievable that people really listen to this POS and he laughs all the way to the bank thanks to them.  He and his ilk are the problem with this country, instead of getting real information people believe POS's like him and think its gospel.  Yes I have tried to listen to him and the whole goofy ass faux news crew as well and could not believe the trash and bullshit that comes out.  OOTWR (Out of touch with reality)!!!!!!!!!!!
He's just following the gop handbook, rule number 2 - avoid accepting responsibility for your actions at all costs - even if it means sacraficing your dignity (which saltsman has obviously done)

Hey, I got a song for ya.....Chip!!! It's called "The G.O.P." (Greedy Old Peckerwoods), and hearing you talk, it's clear that you ARE, in fact,
a "Peckerwood". I'm sure you and your racist Neocon buddies got a kick out of playin' "Barack The Magic Negro", right up until the story leaked.
Damn!!! Caught red handed and red necked, huh Chip? Well anyway, enjoy the song, and I'm sorry I neglected to mention you in it, but take comfort
in knowing that duchebags like yourself, helped inspire me to write it!
I don't know anything more than what Im reading here, but I take it the phrase was created by a black writer, and then played by a white radio host and repeated by a white politician. Guess what, sometimes, who says something is as important as what is said.
Take for example Chris Rock, who said before the election in a stand up routine "You stupid n%##@&, you still think the guy who gets the most votes wins" That was funny. On the other hand, lets think of what it would be like if Rush said the same thing? Howabout it McCain had said it? What if Dick Cheney had said it? The governor of Tennessee? Same words, big differences.
Interesting.
Democrats complain when reporters don't report accurately. Republicans complain when they do.
I can't believe I'm going to say this butt I agree with Richard from WA State.  Don't listen to Rush.  Just like there's no way I would watch fix news.

I think Contessa does a good job.  She seems to ask questions that I would ask if interviewing someone.  Cameron is the one I'm not to fond of and Morning joke, so I don't watch them!!  Problem solved!
I see that the Saltsman is sticking to the GOP playbook - whenever something goes wrong, blame the media. Never mind that Saltsman's decision to distribute that CD was one of the dumbest political decisions we've seen in a long time and smacks of the GOP's typical bigotry. It still has to be someone else's fault. This, of course, comes from someone who wants to lead the so-called "party of personal responsibility." You people are a joke – no ideas, no brains, and no shame. Hell, I’m surprised this dolt didn’t try to blame Bill Clinton.
"Looney" Limbaugh the "Moron with a Mic" is so backwards on all the issues. "Lazy" Limbaugh should be politically hung for his comment about how he hopes Obama fails. No American should hope for any of our Presidents to fail. That is a "treasonous" comment for "Loser" Limbaugh to make.  So another "Gross Odd Person" is blaming everyone else for their emotional problems.  America should not be shocked by this at all. Time to move forward America!

Who are 'we'? Is there a committee running for chair
of the Committee? Tell Mr. Salsman he's way overusing the editorial 'we'.
And there's been a whole lot of people doing things 'without even thinking about'. That's the problem. The country and its political system need people who do THINK and THINK WELL!

I'm with BOB HERBERT today in his op-ed.
The REPUBLICANS and their policies (whatever they are, other than not anything put forth by the Democrats) are like creatures preserved in AMBER.
Once alive and vital, now positively sclerotic!
(Full disclosure-I'm, at the moment, a registered Republican and Obama supporter and voter.)
Why do politicians always blame the media for their failings? Can't people fail simply because they did the screwed up of their own free will?

http://www.vastvariety.net
As long as the Republicans keep blaming the media for their problems, they'll never win another election.  It's an increasingly multi-cultural world, and the Republicans seem to be clueless in it.

Equating the song to the newspaper article is dishonest in itself.  A thoughtful commentary by a black scholar on a phenomenon in the black community compared to opportunistic parody by rich white guy without an original thought.  No comparison.

This travesty is only one wave of the sunami of racist "humor" targeted at Obama that swarmed around the GOP like flies throughout the campaign. (too many metaphors).  I live and work among these guys.  You can't open your e-mail or look at their blogs without having it in your face--Africans dancing, distorted faces with "funny" captions, "Jefferson's" comparisons--then there is the really disgusting stuff.  If you haven't seen it you can't understand how too many of them really think.  They rabidly open their e-mail, guffawing at the latest then forward it to their list of fellow travelers.  When they meet they have only to mention the punch line to set off the snickers and racist remarks again.  It is like a secret society with rules no one else understands (KKK?)

This went on all the time--all campaign--all of them!  I saw doctors, business owners, contractors, insurance agents, architects, Chamber of Commerce members, professional association members, bond brokers, investors, City and County Commissioners, well-off retirees, spa-pampered upper class mothers, Christian church members, even blue collar workers who have LOST THEIR JOBS in Bush's economy,  your neighbor and mine,  loving every vile joke.  They had no shame.  They would tell each other "Don't say that in front of her. She'll say we're racists."  But they didn't see that it was wrong---they said I was "too sensitive."

This is what we are dealing with---this is what has become of Lincoln's Republican Party---and this is why they have no place in modern dialogue.  They are racist or they wouldn't conceive of, much less participate in, the kind of discourse that they choose.   It isn't the media.  The media dare not show how bad it really is.  It is their own twisted ideology that brought this upon them.
Limbaugh is castigated because he is judged pre-emptively as a racist by ignoramuses and therefore anything that he says relative to blacks is racist.  That is wrong because he is not racist, regardless of what MSierra says, and the song is not racist.
_________

See, the problem is, he was also called out when he made the idiotic comment about Donovan McNabb (quarterback for Philadelphia) being treated more kindly by the press because he is black, and how the NFL wants a black quarterback to succeed.

Now, after a while, when you keep throwing race into subjects in which race should not *be* a subject, it is going to call your racism into question.  But Rush continues to do it anyway.  So, if you do something enough, eventually the question will have to be raised.  If Rush doesn't want to appear racist, then he should stop making race an issue.

If he could put the oxy down for one minute, he might actually learn that.
Richard in Washington State, since I have not actually listened to Rush in I dont know how long (probably since his tv show in the mid 90's) I have a question.  When is the last time you saw him talk as badly about a Republican politician as he does a Democratic politician?  I am honestly asking because I don't know.  I am betting it is not often.

(And yes, I can ask the same in reverse of Keith and Rachel, which is why I dont really watch them either. I haven't been a regular viewer of any political show since "Equal Times" went off the air, which seemed to me to be the only show that ever got it right)
