McCaskill unloads on Wall St. 'idiots'

From NBC's Ken Strickland
President Obama may have called it "shameful," but Sen. Claire McCaskill took to the Senate floor and unloaded on the corporate execs getting billions in bonuses funded by taxpayer dollars: "We have a bunch of idiots on Wall Street that are kicking sand in the face of the American taxpayer." And then the Missouri Democrat reloaded.

Video: McCaskill: Wall St. 'kicking taxpayer in shins'

"They don't get it," McCaskill said. "These people are idiots. You can't use taxpayer money to pay out $18-billion in bonuses... What planet are these people on?"

Today, McCaskill introduced legislation that would cap the executive pay at any company getting federal bailout money at $400,000. (The same salary of the US President.) "They'd have to limit that executive compensation for everyone in their company until they pay back every dime to the taxpayers," she said.

"Once they're off the public dole, once the taxpayers aren't footing the bill, then it's not as much our business what they get paid," she said. "But right now, they're on the hook to us. And they owe us something more than a fancy waste basket and a $15-million dollar jet. They owe us some common sense."

McCaskill added, "We must have our financial institutions survive, but not with a culture that thinks it's OK to kick the taxpayer in the shins while they drink champagne and fly in fancy jets."

And with one more round in the chamber, she fired off: "We should have done it in the first place, but I don't think any of us thought these guys were this stupid... but we've learned our lesson."

Great Idea Clare! I suggest that they don't need any more bailout money because they were able to pay bonuses. You only get a bonus when the company does well.
I would like to see anyone else in a commission-based profession saying their pay should be capped arbitrarily by the govt.  A few people on Wall St caused this - everyone else deserves to be paid. If its so easy, why isnt everyone working on Wall St?
ATTENTION:  All Bat S%*t Crazy Republicans

You folks were BESIDE yourselves with GM, Ford & Chrysler for bonuses and private planes.

You were incredulous and VOTED AGAINST bailing out Detroit.

YOU CONTINUE TO SHOW YOUR HYPOCRITICAL VALUES when you show ABSOLUTELY no outrage for bonuses on Wall Street or $50M new private jet for Citibank.

Where is your outrage now?  WHERE?!!!
Can someone please shut off the feed to that dumba$$ limbaugh, too many of his trolls are wasting our air by breathing it!
Give em Hell Claire? thats right,... we speak our minds is the Great State of Missouri,... the buck stops here!
To Citigroup:  you wanted to buy (yet another) new jet in order to "save money."  I have an idea for saving money...FLY COMMERCIAL, like we do, you know, the grunts back in coach that are paying YOUR salary and YOUR bonus.  Sure, you might have to suffer the indignity of flying first class, but you'll survive.  Now, about those 3-week Vail vacations WE the taxpayer are also paying for (ahem, Thain)...
A:  $37,000 commode with legs.

Q:  What does one need in order to flush $20 billion down the drain in a 12-month period?

Clue provided by John Thain.
nail those SOBs to the wall!  I can't wait to hear Mark Levin, Hannity and Rush freaking out.  "Waaah, waaaah, Socialism, waaaaaaaah!!!!"

C A ~ A WHAT full of cheese?  My, my, my ... are we colorful today, or what?  ;)

Anna Molly:

Colorful stories that turn people red like the 18 Bil Wallsteet bonuses require colorful responses. ;) Besides, I just stated what Obama, McCaskill, Dems and many Republicans were really thinking when they heard this news. They just happen to use langauge that is considered more politically correct, like shameful.

Plue I was surprised that FR posted the comment with that sentence. Let's see if they are as red about this news as we are and if they will post this. You know what they say (regarding these CEOs). Shit flows to the top.
Hey Kenny, suck it.

Hey First Read, I think this was totally inappropriate!  Can't believe it got by you!
Thank you Senator McCaskill for reminding Americans that the United States is a democracy, not a capitalist society.  It wasn't until the 19th Century when President Andrew Jackson embraced it.

She also reminded us that this is a democratic nation not an "oligarchy."  Webster's Dictionary defines oligarchy as:

1: government by the few
2: a government in which a small group exercises control especially for corrupt and selfish purposes ; also : a group exercising such control.
3: an organization under oligarchic control.

This is how the GOP wanted to turn this nation into this form of government.
"They don't get it," McCaskill said. "These people are idiots. You can't use taxpayer money to pay out $18-billion in bonuses... What planet are these people on?"

"Now someone call the limo service, there is a private jet on the runway waiting for me.  I have an appointment for a taxpayer paid massage and spa treatment and I don't plan on missing it"
It feels so good to have someone with some clout stand up and say what we've all been thinking for so long... But I'm afraid that no matter what stipulations are added to the bailout money, it won't have the intended effect. The wasted 18 billion is precisely why, people making decisions are people, imperfect, greedy, designed to fail. We obviously need to reevaluate many financial and industrial infrastructures and, yes, learn from the Japanese. I agree with whoever said that. If a business model isn't working, you try another, but we are the nation of continually trying to stick a round peg in a square hole.
Maybe Ms. Claire should have thought about that before she voted FOR the TARP funds - dumba$$!

Now she tries to get the few required moments on Hardball and Countdown tonight for her "insight".

She's an embarassment to the Senate AND what's left of what USED TO BE the Democratic party!

I am just as OUTRAGED at the amount of PORK - BILLIONS - that Pelosi and her ilk have managed to tag on to said "stimulus" package.  This is a travesty just unfolding before our eyes.

Smoking cessation.....contraception.....sex ed for the poor......HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS WASTED and not a single job created! After 30 YEARS, I have disavowed myself of the Democratic Party and hang my head in shame that I voted for them all these years!
I'm proud that she's my senator!!
Wow!  People we need to blog the heck out of this and make sure every Senator and member of the House supports this legislation, no pork no riders no dilution, just the bill as stated.  Fax them!  Email them!  Call them!  Secondly, we need to embarrass and recall any member of Congress who votes against it or tries to meddle with it.  Enough is enough.
I dont care if she saw President obama being critical of the big boys on wall street...At least she spoke out willing to do something about it...And while she at it she should lamb base the ex mayor of NY, another glory hound who supports the big bonouses...Being a lawyer as he supose to be i wonder how many of these companyies he represents...Another loser, and if he was middle class i wonder what his reaction would be.....Tuff not to have all that wealth you have from the wall street that gave to your campainge...Again Loser..
