Female senators would double since 2000

From NBC's Chris Donovan
A few interesting tidbits IF Gregg resigns his seat and Bonnie Newman takes his place...

1. The Senate will then have 18 female members -- a new record. Interestingly enough, in 2000 the then-nine female senators who served published a book titled, "Nine and Counting: The Women of the Senate" -- so that number has now been doubled.

2. New Hampshire will become the FOURTH state to currently have two female senators: (Washington, California and Maine do now)

3. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) will, after only 30 days in office, become the SENIOR Senator from New Hampshire. As Senate Historical Office's Betty Koed points out, with that new title comes the privilege of getting the coveted Daniel Webster Senate desk. By law, the senior senator from NH gets to use the desk!

Go Feminists!  As long as the Senators are qualified, you have my full support.

Which is why I've always liked Kay Bailey Hutchinson, even though she is not a Dem.  I, too, can be 'bipartisan' for whatever good it may get us!
Harry Reid counts as a woman too. That makes 19.
I hope this Newman isn't some hillbilly trash rightwingnut like sarah palin

Typical. Make the woman share a desk. Doesn't Daniel Webster get in the way?
Ok, this is weird, whenever I pull up the comment box, the name field fills in with Beverly in Chicago.

I'm not kidding! Beverly in Chicago, this may account for why you thought someone posted under your name.
And just how much does their wardrobe cost and who's paying for it????????????????????
Way to go!! I believe in the natural superiority of the female species. Did you know that every baby conceived starts out as female and has to be "down graded" by adding an extra chromosone to make it male. Nature doesn't make mistakes. Any man who says he runs his house (or Senate)is either single, divorced or about to be divorced but doesn't know it yet.
Now THAT'S REAL Progress

Still not enough female Senators to match their total in the population
But, an improvement

I wish we could get BETTER femaile Senators for California

Sen. Barbara Boxer is fine

But, Diane Feinstein is a wreck !!
I remember since she was Mayor of SF (the 'fighting housewife') and she hasn't changed

As Mayor, she was the tool of 'Downtown' (corporate) interests...... She still is

Feinstein voted for the 1st Iraq War (Gulf War), this Iraq War, war against Iran (Lieberman-Kyl), the PAtriot Act, amnesty for Telcons that wire tapped Americans, NAFTA, WTO, tax cuts for the rich, Joe Alito and John Roberts

It's political hacks that that that give 'Bi-Partisan' a BAD NAME

Diane for Dog Catcher !!
the senate is still out of balance with female and minority membership. especially minority membership. they have no hispanics, african-americans(elected), american-indians or asians. so much for true representation of all cultures.
CA (lost in Tuscaloosa):

I missed reading the overwhelming majority of your recent 6,755 lengthy posts but I'll try to do better.

Sincerely,
Palomino (Pal o mine)
danny, she won't replace him with his seniority. just thought you should know that.

You may want to seek some help for this inferiority complex you seem to have.
The way you Liberals went around destroying the woman's movement in 2008, sure looks like you all are starting real big in 2009....
jawillie - (from the last post) Bush is gone.

So when us Limbaugh zombies want to take it upon ourselves to trash Obama's tax evading picks for his cabinet, yeah, we're sure as hell gonna do it.

Bush has NOTHING to do with it. If you want to bring up a real past president scumball, let's talk about Clinton, the guy who really was impeached for lying under oath and having the ethics of an amoeba.( My apologies to all the amoebas and parameciums out there) Let's talk about Carter, and Kennedy ran around with Marilyn didn't he? Bobby too. (Yeah, I know he wasn't president)

My point is simple. Bush is gone and everything you gave him Barack Obama is getting back in spades (no pun intended) The difference is Bush was then and Barack is NOW.

Barack is making a fool of himself and the Democratic Party. Don't see it, do you? You must be related to CA in Alabama. Almost all of his picks are tax evaders and/or cheats. A case can even be made for Obama himself. But go ahead and dwell on Bush. It's what jawillie does ... and nothing else.
Why should the Dems kow-tow to the Repukes and appoint a Republican Senator merely so as not to upset the balance of power?  I would give Gregg lipservice, and then appoint a Dem after he resigns.
There will be mistakes. Hopefully none will be as costly as some in the previous Administration but if they are I will have no problem voicing my disapproval. I want what is best for the country. Sure the party affiliation is nice but it is the country that should come first.

Could not agree with you more.
jerry, are you serious about your statements? if so i think you may want to go back and check your history as to what party has been the most supportive of women rights and their efforts to gain equality. you can start with the lily ledbetter amendment and regress from that point through history.

From what I've read, she's one of the few moderate Republican's left.  I don't think she's the obstructionist type.

Tell Norah O'Donnell that the
State of Washington also has two female senators:
Patty Murray & Maria Cantwell
NH represented by 2 rookies. Too bad. Oh well, small state so not much effect on the country as a whole.

Regarding gender to quote a famous movie line..."Frankly Scarlet, I don't give a damn".

For once, I could not agree more.  I swear, if I heard there was a Feinstein/Lieberman ticket for the white house, my first question would be "under which party?"
Who contributed to the Yes on 8 campaign ?

These are the people who don't want Marriage Equality in California:

Thank you Mormon Church
Thank you Catholic Church
You're both keeping the spirit of Bigotry alive in California !!

Now, you're EXPOSED !!
Way to go jawillie! Looks like you've got Palomino's dandruff up! I love it! My, my, he came out with both squirt guns blasting, didn't he? However, he can hide behind his rants all he wants, the REST of us remember the last 8 years just like you stated. He's becoming a "minority" along with Lush Pill-Popping Limbaugh! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!

Exactly how did liberals destroy the woman's movement?  Hillary not getting to be President, but getting to be Secretary of State, will do a lot more for women than Failin' Palin.  Seems to me that Caribou Barbie hurt the women's movement the most in 2008.  And by the way, the Democrats had a woman on the national ticket 24 years ago.  If it took the GOP 24 years to catch up, who is really hurting women?
All I can say, is so long as they all do a better job than the person they replace.
And pretty please can't all these senators JUST GET ALONG!!! For cryin' out loud, we need solutions to our problems. I am so sick of these Repukes ganging on Obama's stimulus plan or pundits picking on nominees.  Like we are not going to see a ton of Repukes not paying taxes either or cheating one way or another.  The way this is going, we are all going to break into our own selective tribes just like the Iraques. Lord help us!! And please help our president with these multitude of issues and pettiness.

moir

Do you feel the same way about the rookie in the White House? Rahm Emanuel put a bill in front of Barack the other day, and Obama asked "What do I do with it?"
I just wish they would get some pretty one's instead
of the one's like on these news shows that look and
act like a bunch of jilted lesbos.

Palomino:

Too bad. You might have learned something. Or, they certainly would have given you plenty of opportunity to respond with your empty smart a-- nonsense comments. Like the one above. Are you sure you are not GWB in disguise?

Bring it on Palomino. You're easy.

Thanks, Di.  Generally, I ignore Palomino's rants, as they're hardly worthy of my attention.  I can pick off every one of his points in my sleep, since most of what he spouts is nonsense that's all over the place anyway.  Frankly, I'm not sure he even knows what topic he's on most of the time.  There are neocons here who can offer a far more worthwhile debate.

Now if only I can get one of the Limbaugh-Zombies to read the stimulus plan and SHOW ME THE PORK.

Dance, Limbaugh-Zombies!  Dance!

Two of a kind. Scared sensless by a overweight radio talk show host. I expect that from the east coast, but not the midwest. Normally midwesteners are a little tougher. Maybe you're a east coast transplant Diane? If you can't grow apples, grow a pair.
New flash! Porkulus Bill is Dead in it's tracks!

Obama/Biden team stumble out of the gate with Demo's in full control of all branches of government.

Hillary Clinton in 2012! YES SHE CAN!
