From NBC's Mark Murray
First Read got its hands on the email and video that Organizing for America -- the Obama campaign offshoot that's housed inside the Democratic National Committee -- is sending to the individuals who are hosting the 3,300 meetings across the country on the economic stimulus.

Here's the video from new DNC chairman Tim Kaine:

Here's the email:
"Governor Tim Kaine just recorded a video answering your questions about the President's economic recovery plan and how it will affect your community.

"Please show this video during your Economic Recovery House Meeting, then encourage your guests to ask their own questions and share their personal stories.

"Don't forget to gather stories and questions from your guests -- they will be featured on BarackObama.com to tell the story of the economic crisis, and our recovery.

"And if you haven't already, be sure to check out the House Meeting Host Guide for tips on how to collect stories and make your meeting a success.

"Thank you for being a part of this important event,

Organizing for America."

The unemployment rate will be 8.0% in June and I will blame it on the present administration and its policies.

Of course you will.

Diane from Illinois

And it makes perfect sense to do just that. Everything and I mean everything that happened under Bush was blamed on him and it is only fair that Obama get the blame for all that happens on his watch. Agreed.
Obama stated he would not sign any bill without giving the American people 5 days to review it on the campaign trail and during the debates....
He signed two this week two days after they were passed.

What Up Obama? Lying to us AGAIN?
I got my email we're fired up an ready to go!
Don’t confuse e-mails with new social networking tools and strategies with socialism. To stop Draconian century age slashes in social programs is very un-democratic not socialism. Republicans only want to undermine Obama on his first 100 days.

Conceding indicates bi-partisanship. Will John McCain agree? I hope yes is on the tip of his tongue. I don't think McCain will be at any of a community organizer's parties; neither can Palin. If cameras are there she'll be there.

Can you knock it off? Your redundant list only reaffirms how many mistakes were made with the tax cuts. Besides, it takes up too much space. Read Paul Krugan; go with a winner!

I agree, Chris can be a bit harsh – he’s back and forth with it.
When he tries to bash President Obama – it’s fake and it sucks.

But, when he's calm and allows his guest to answer his questions - it smooth and meaningful - instead of dramaful.

I’m not trying to defend Chris Matthews. I think he just likes to talk; he’s forever wired; and sometimes he really makes me angry. But, he has told us it’s his job to knock the guest off their game.

Yes, when he tries to bash President Obama – it’s fake and it sucks. He’s a good Catholic unlike the Confederate solider. Pat Buchanan.

Really, I enjoy watching him. He’s a fast talker and so am I. My friends always tell me slow down. I especially enjoy watching interview Professor Michael Dyson, the hip-hop Professor.

Can Obama please elaborate on this "Catastrophe" he keeps trying to "scare" people with.

I’ve just obtained an internal Senate committee memo detailing the latest cuts being eyed by the gang of Senators being led by Dem Ben Nelson and GOPer Susan Collins. Here is what’s being eyed in the bill right now:

*****************************

Total Reductions: $80 billion

Eliminations:

Head Start, Education for the Disadvantaged, School improvement, Child Nutrition, Firefighters, Transportation Security Administration, Coast Guard, Prisons, COPS Hiring, Violence Against Women, NASA, NSF, Western Area Power Administration, CDC, Food Stamps
*****************************

Reductions:

Public Transit $3.4 billion, School Construction $60 billion

*****************************

Increases:

Defense operations and procurement, STAG Grants, Brownfields, Additional transportation funding

*****************************

Nelson spokesperson Clay Westrope confirms the authenticity of the memo, adding that the figures obviously could change. But this is currently the general direction.

As you can see the amount being cut appears to have fallen, to a total of $80 billion, though Westrope says the actual number is closer to $100 billion. Also, it appears some of those cuts are being maintained even as defense funds appear to be getting added.
OBAMA IS BAD FOR AMERICA. HE IS INSTILLING FEAR IN THE AMERICAN PEOPLE.

A disgrace for someone who was promising change we need. He has proven a very weak leader to this point and one who uses fear to get what he wants. Taxpayers DO NOT WANT this Obama Bill!
Tell me this – is it costing the country less by paying out unemployment? Every day the number of people on unemployment goes up at a rate of 13 jobs a minute! Many of these people end up on food stamps, Medicaid, etc.

The stimulus package will put people back to work fixing roads, utilities, schools, etc. If you put people back to work, they will have money to spend. They will also pay taxes to the government instead of having to live off the government. When people have jobs they spend money! When they spend money someone has to make the products they buy.  Manufactures need workers and raw material to manufacture their products and transportation to get their products to stores. The stores need people to stock and sale these goods. The circle goes on and on. That creates jobs.
And it makes perfect sense to do just that. Everything and I mean everything that happened under Bush was blamed on him and it is only fair that Obama get the blame for all that happens on his watch. Agreed.
--Pete, Salinas, CA

No, Clinton and the Democrats are to blame for everything bad that happened under Bush.  Bush is responsible for the good thing that happened.
I supported Barack Obama because he struck me as a man who understood the needs of hard working American families. I see him with his daughters and I thought that this was a man who would put education at the top of the list.

What I'm understanding from this stimulus bill is that education took quite a cut. If this is so, and the bill gets passed with a cut in education, I will never give President Obama another dime.

I will be further surprised if Senator Kennedy and Senator Kerry abide by this without a fight.
Unemployment blame game on Obama? You must be nuts, you punk. Look, I was no Obama supporter. But use common sense dude. Stop doing drugs so you can think clearly.
This video is a great idea gone bad.
Putting it on YouTube - Great!
Answering questions written in - Great!
ANSWERS to those questions....Non-Existent!
Gov. Kaine answers all the (excellent) questions with spin totally un-related to the question!
Or, to put it another way, he doesn't answer it at all.

For example, the first question has to do with a fear that investing in infrastructure won't produce immediate jobs and, he thinks it should be in a seperate bill. The Gov., in reply, rambles on about how the bill must be balanced, unemployment is low, and we must plan for the future.

All true...but what the heck does that have to do with the question???
The CORRECT answer, Gov., is that it DOES provide immediate jobs. Not only for the workers, but they need to order supplies - lumber, steel, equipment. And people who have been laid off in THOSE industries will be put back to work because there is now a market. So, not only does it create jobs, its a job multiplier! Its not a real hard concept to grasp.
Why he does the "spin-dance", I don't know.
But I do request a do-over.

Keep everything the same...but THIS time answer the doggone question! There are real, logical, and easy-to-understand answers to all those questions. And they all honestly promote the plan.

Now go get busy, Gov.!
richard from washington state you know nothing your republican party created this with gw bushie and it is what it is
You know you repukes just make me ill, I am 66 yrs old, and I have lived thorugh the Ike recession, the nixon recession, the ronny raygunz recession, the bush 1 recession, and now the bush 2 recession. Does anyone beside me see a pattern here? The only time I have lived through good times is under a democratic president, and now we have another one. You repukes just sit back, and keep whinning, and enjoy what is about to come your way because you too will benefit from a democratic administration. but I know you will be harping all the way to the bank, and then some day the people will loose their memory and vote in another repugnant one who will once again ruin this country and the economy. Read your history people and learn from it.
How many republicans lost their jobs and heavily subsidized healthcare today? Remember how you voted for cadidates that told you tax cuts and cutting social programs were the answer? How's that working for some fo you folks these days? You aren't using nay socialist programs like unemployment, job training or food banks are you?
Every since High School Civics class I never fully understood the multi-party political system in the "United" States. Does it boil down to the Rich against the Poor?  Old ways against New ways? The Educated against the Uneducated? Or do Americans just need something to fight about? Every American has the right to the same things...life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. The Democrats and Republicans are like a two-headed political snake fighting over the same meal.
john mccain said today, "this bill is nothing but a trojan horse filled with their pet projects." well, let's see: tax cuts, capital gains tax reduction, tax cuts - oh those democratic pet projects - give me a break!

Did you all enjoy your free day of work without pay in California ?  LOL
I hope that some Senators and Representatives can come with Pres. Obama to Elkhart, IN then they, too, can get a first hand look at 15.6% unemployment.  The kicker to it all is that Elkhart county is really Republican't territory.

Oh, yes I just live a couple counties west unemployment here is 9.2%.
Are the messages from Richard and Pete real, or merely sarcastic? Can anyone of sane mind blame a President who's been in office for 17 days for the condition of the economy? That's just stupid beyond belief, but consistent with the economic nonsense coming out of the GOP these days. They ran the country for 8 years, and you see what we got. The American people know that, threw them out, and elected Obama and the Dems to try a more sensible approach. They are trying, no thanks to the GOP Hooverites, and comments like these. Fortunately, most Americans know better and will give Obama a real chance to deal with the greatest economic crisis in 70 years.
right - blame O for what Bush leave...I don't think so...Get a grip
Pete.  Darling.  That's just dumb.
Greater presidents have faced harder times.  When the economy is worse in a year, it is to the credit of th commander in chief.  If it is better, then he also gets the credit.  That is the nature of leadership, or lack there of.  I hope things improve, but if not, I do expect to hear excuses.  With deomocrats, it is always someone elses fault.
I was immensely dissapointed with Bush and his dynasty, but i despise that the dems do not take credit for being in charge of everything except the number one seat for the past 2 years.

This crisis is a direct reflection on shoddy lending standards, which was entirely promulgated by dems during the Clinton admin......

Credit where credit is due.  Blind faith solves nothing.  Obama was not my man, but I had hoped for better.

This is just plain scary.  I can't say what is trueley in this Bill and neither can any of you.  However, i would prefer that every senator that is voting on it be able to say what is in the bill.  Reaction is not leadership, it is simply emotion.  A bill of this magnitude should take some time so that the end result is better for us all.  I don't want a lack of caps on salaries, and I dont want to spend millions on projects that do not generate sustainability.   Roosevelt's bill had signifigantly more time and thought put into it.

We all need this economy turned around as quickly as possible, and for all of our sakes, a plan should be put in place to do so.  But simply putting something together quickly, in fear, is just ignorent.  My senator, you the reader, and myself should all be more aware of what is actually in the bill before it is passed!!!!

Do any of you deal with contract negotiations?  Simply changing the word "may" to "shall" changes my entire responsibility that I have to the executor of the contract.  If one word can change the terms of a contract, would you not think that we should all be more careful to jump onboard loose terms like "energy spending and infrastructure" without knowing just what that actually means.

What do you mean, "got hold of this?" I trusted you to be up to date?  This website is open to anyone who cares. Get a grip. This is an emergency.
I really don't understand how you could blame the President, who has been on the job for what, 3 weeks?
Have you watched the debate in the Senate? The Rebpublican Leader is playing politics with this and he openly admitted it before they even started debating the bill in the house when he said this is where the Republican Party will make its stand. Are you kidding me?? 5 trillion in debt was accumulated under Bush and they never batted an eye because it all went to corporate America and private defense contractors. This, along with the failure to enforce regulation, is why we are where we are. In an attempt to fix it the Dems are going to add 1 trillion to the debt and all of the sudden the Republicans are concerned. Is it the amount of Debt or the fact that it is going directly to working people??
This is the same "grass" roots that got Phelps in trouble.  The Dems are all flower loving pot heads.

Sorry, Obama preferred Coke.

======================================================

DESPITE OBAMA'S THREATS & FEAR TACTICS ... REPUBLICANS CUT $100 BILLION IN PORK FROM STIMULUS BILL ... BUT OBAMA REMAINS DETERMINED TO BRING EUROPEAN SOCIALISM TO THE USA!
No, not in the case of the economy this early in the new administration; two years from now, yes.  The job loses and continued economic decline will still be  connected to the Bush administration for years because of the severity of this crisis.  The recession began in Dec, 2007. The Bush administration's response was a tax rebate which had no affect on the downturn because it was one time with no plans for growing the economy. Tax cuts (and rebates are useless) are the least effective stimulus because only $1.03 is gained for every $1.00 spent.  As the economy continued to contract, the loses became greater with each passing month.  It takes months for any actions to begin to impact a downturn.  Added to the economic recession, we have the mounting debt of two wars, the housing market blew up, and the banking system crashed which makes this recession different from any others in recent times except the great depression.  The Bush administration failed to take any action regarding mainstream America in Sep, Oct, Nov, Dec, 2008, and most of January.  He worked to bailout Wall Street and did help the autoworkers; however, he either failed to recognize the depth of the problems or had no concept of how to stimulate the economy by government intervention.  Had Bush taken immediate action in Sep with a stimulus package such as the one the current administration has proposed, it probably would have slowed the recession.  During the campaign, President Obama urged the Bush administration to "act and act now" to help the American people; he understood that a failure to act with urgency would have a severe impact on the economy.  Deflation, which is what we face now, feeds on itself with ever declining spending causing the demand to decrease resulting in more job loses which causes even less demand and the cycle of decline repeats itself over and over.  We need to remember that the economic mess the Bush administration left President Obama began technically over one year ago (but we were already in trouble because of mounting war debt); it will take much longer than 6 months to begin the slow climb upward.  This particular economic recession belongs to the Bush administration for a long, long time because you can't fix in 6 months what took 8 years to break.
And it makes perfect sense to do just that. Everything and I mean everything that happened under Bush was blamed on him and it is only fair that Obama get the blame for all that happens on his watch. Agreed.

Pete, Salinas, CA
**********************************************************
There will be one enormous difference though.  We will see President Obama take responsibility for what happens under his watch, mutch unlike what happened under our former man-boy President who seemed incapable of accepting responsibility for anything and spent much of his 8 years in office seeking out others to scapegoat and blame for his own inadequacies.
Reward for Democrats & Grandchild Rape Act of 2009
TARP 2 to the tune of 500-600 billion coming as soon as this one is signed. Of course that one will have to passed or we'll all die!!!!
And Obama's little Brown Shirts we're created.
The unemployment is already near 8%!

You're going to blame Obama for trying to fix the problem caused by policies impemented in the past 8 years (some say policies that go back to the Reagan administration)??

I agree that Obama should be held accountable for new problems that arise on his watch. But don't forget how we got ourselves into our present problems. It wasn't Obama who got us here.

So you think that the current 7.9% unemployment rate is due to the current administration and President Obamas policies over the last 19 days in office?  Amazing!

I lost my job in July 2008....was he secretly plotting to destroy our economy even while I was out knocking on doors to gather support for him?

Keep it real folks! If you disagree with the stimulus package say that and explain why.  If you are against the policies and procedures of a democratic executive branch and administration then say that but please refrain from mixing up fact and fantasy with regard to our current economic tragedy.  He inherited a mess and now the US citizens want it fixed and the majority of people thought President Obama was the person for the job.

You better believe that when new history books are published and our children and grandchildren are taught about what was happening in the world they won't neglect to mention that President Obama was elected to clean up after the Bush administration and its FAILED policies.
"The unemployment rate will be 8.0% in June and I will blame it on the present administration and its policies."

Maybe.  But here's this.  The unemployment rate will be 5.5% by June 2010 and we'll be well on our way to recovery because of the economic policies President Obama is pushing right now.  The President will be hailed as the visionary that saved the economy.  And the Republicans will be torched for the third time in a row in the elections of 2010.  Effectively eliminating them as the threat to the nation they have become and everyone will absolutely KNOW that they are at that point.

Something to for you to look forward too.
I went to my local Obama house party last night. We watched the video and had a discussion. Questions were asked like, "how does the money get distributed, where is the accountablity.
Answer: There will be a website posting tracking the
package and how it is spent. We are being promised accountablity and tranparency.

I think it is clear that something needs to be done.
The economy is tanking and new jobs need to be created. Tax cuts aren,t enough.
Why is there so much unemployment? Try to buy something not made in China and you will see why. We need to level the playing field by putting a tariff on imports. The stimulus package will help somewhat after the fat is cut out of it. I am a registered democrat but am disgusted at some of the non stimulus add-ons.
So your point of view is that it's irrelevant that the previous administration doubled our national debt, spent one trillion dollars on a war that didn't need to be fought, stood idle while millions of American jobs disappeared and millions more were shipped overseas, and twiddled their thumbs while banks so mismanaged America's economy that we are in virtual bankruptcy, but if Obama doesn't fix that by June it's all his fault? You're demonstrating exactly why your party lost the last election.
Y'know, you gotta wonder why they choose to include questions Kaine clearly has no intention of actually answering.

Case in point: Question #2. "...Do you have a plan for handling the unprecedented deficits engendered by this bill on top of the Wall Street bill already passed? What kinds of structures will be in place to monitor money apportioned by this bill?"

Kaine then proceeds to tell us (again) how dire the situation is, but never even goes near a real response to the actual question asked. How very familiar, isn't it?

Sorry, but I'm just not buying it. We do need stimulus, but it's quite clear to me that either the administration really hasn't worked this stuff out as well as they should have or they're just unwilling to to be completely up-front and honest with the American people about the details.

Seems like just DC politics as usual as far as I can see.
Wow, investigative journalism -- you "got your hands on" the same email and video that was posted to the old campaign site. FYI, the site has morphed into a space that provides info on Organize for America activities as well as community blogs, reader comments, grassroots organizing tools etc. The video came to me in my handy-dandy RSS reader and is available to anybody on the web who wants to watch, forward it, post it, or even host their own houseparties. They don't have to be on some super DNC email list or be in any way affiliated with the Democrats or the White House to get the "inside scoop". NBC ought to try it some time.
With the new President in office less than a month, I don't see how anyone can blame our current economic problems on him unless you're a person who never takes responsibility for anything.  It's always someone else's fault.  We all need to quit being political and be American.  Remember, The UNITED states of America?
I have to say Richard from wash. is the most elitist, pompous ass I have ever read on these posts. do you deliberately try to act like you don't care about other people and their kids or is it just an act?
President Obama was handed these diasters by Bush and the republicans and it will take time to undo the mess they have made. And, by the republicans holding up the stimulous package with their tax cuts for the selected few, demanding help for education and the less fortunate be eliminated, the passing is going to take even more time.
After what they have done to our country and the world these last eight years they are now "experts" on the economy?? Give me a break!
Thanks for posting this video. The American people are tuned in to the issues and want facts about the the package,
Prsident Obama, has been in office two weeks and you blame him for what Bush and his administration did to this once great nation over 8 years.  Be for real!
Not so fast,  it took us 8 years to get to where we are.  The blame squarely lies with President Bush and the Republicans
Hula Hoops and poopdy doops...the dem's keep gettin' dumber following after the first socialist president -Obama.  Let's throw ALL the bum's out in 2012.  Start fresh..they are ALL crooks, liars, robbers, and whatever else you want to call them.  We NEED term limits on all of congress.  It would help eliminate the partisan politics.

Blame? Yes let's blame. But a couple of points: Bush came into office with a trillion dollar surplus and left with a trillion dollar deficit. Bush came in not with wars and left with two. Bush came in with unemployment about 4% and left with 6% plus. Bush came in with a 10 year rise in middle class income and left with a decreasing middle class income. Bush came in with no food epidemics for over 10 years and left with three major ones. Bush came in with no major infrastructure failures for the previous 10 years and left with at least two. Some facts please.

So what 'economic recovery plan' does Kaine endorse? There's about 5 of them to choose from.
Pete Salinas, that is ridiculous. The unemployment rate is 7.8 percent now and the spiral continues. It has nothing to do with the president who inherited this mess.
Not even 30 days in office and you are willing to blame the current administration. What are you on?????
Bush never took the blame for anything! Did you not see his exit interview? He did nothing wrong.
Right, Bush had 8 years Obama will have had five months to fix it.  Do I dare question your logic?

Now, if he drops the bi-partisan effort, and doesn't use his bully pulpit in commandeering the citizenry to lambaste their congressmen, then I'll lay it all at his door.  These obstructionist have latched on to the perfect scenario.  There so in the bottom of the polls, or in the case of those who represent the complete opposition, they don't care how low their numbers go as long as they can drag Obama's down with them.

Now Richard when you find the problems accrued over a long time that can be immediately repaired, please let me know.

Pete, keep it up and I'll be convinced wacky is the thing in California.
