Ted Kennedy in DC for vote

From NBC's Kelly O'Donnell

Sources tell NBC News that Sen. Ted Kennedy (D) will be at the Capitol today to cast his vote when the Senate considers ending the debate on the stimulus bill. Kennedy's vote gives Democrats a one-vote cushion getting them to 61 (assuming all Democrats and the three Republicans who publicly support the measure vote yes).

Kennedy returned Friday from Florida, where he has been recuperating during on going treatment for brain cancer.

I'm sure glad he made it - I had heard that he ran his car off a bridge.  I'm sure glad he's ok.
Senate rules: You have to count Ted's and Byrd's vote as just one for obvious reasons.
The Republicans act as if they want to delay the stimulous long enough that it loses some of its impact so that going into the next election they can say: See, it didn't work.

After what they did to this country economically, do they have no shame? Foolish question.
I know there are some who can never forgive Kennedy for Mary Jo; but I believe he has dedicated his life post that incident toward trying to represent the little people in an environment where only 'big' people are valued.  I am moved to tears each and every time I see him on Capital Hill knowing what his very presence there represents in sacrifice for others.  His actions lately represent the change we all voted for in November.

“…Therefore, a better way to say it might be that the government has never created a job with its own money.”Richard, Washington State (Sent Monday, February 09, 2009 12:25 PM)
And much of those jobs were created with SMALL BUSINESS ADMIN loans, ergo – Government Spending.  Round Two – Is Michael Steele representative of all Republicans ethics?  Or merely a pawn in a much bigger scandal.  And what about the providers of all that lipstick for all those pigs?  Are they to receive tax breaks, too?  your rebuttal Mr. Richard,...

“…Bawney Fwank WAS fearmongering.  Decisions to lay off cops and firefighters don't come at the federal level.   If a state decides to make that fiscal decision, that's up to them.  They can make the cuts elsewhere if they want to keep the police and firefighters intact.”Claire (Sent Monday, February 09, 2009 12:49 PM)

Claire, again you missed the point, the stimulus will be giving money to the states, in infrastructure and other incentives freeing up THOSE funds to continue to provide BASIC services.  That’s what makes it ‘stimulus’.
Bless you and godspeed, Senator Kennedy for as long as you have left.  Let's hope it's a long, long time.  This country owes you a debt of gratitude for the courage you are displaying now, as well as for the strength you brought to President Obama during the primary campaign.  If only everyone could appreciate it properly.
Please, Ted, don't do us any more favors.
Elizabeth: Senator Kerry on Saturday during the debate up on the Hill told the GOP Senators to their faces what he thought of their hypocrisy over the housing meltdown. He named names. He talked of meetings they all had attended, where ideas - good ideas -were discussed and agreed upon to fix the mess, but the GOP in the end voted AGAINST doing anything constructive.

He was furious. Senator Boxer was as well terrific.

Marxism isn't a place, it's a red herring overused by right wing nut boys !!

From LP.org

The non-partisan Congression Budget Office reports the current economic slump will end sometime around mid-2009.

Keep in mind Obama himself admits any effect he thinks his government expansion will have on the economy won't take place until 2010 -- well after the slump will end anyway.

Between that, and the CBO's research last week showing Obama plan will cause long-term damage to the economy, and that the economy will bounce back faster without the package, why is the Senate even considering a $1,100,000,000,000.00 Frankenstein's moster of wealth transfers and fatter government?

It probably has much to do with the fact much of the money lines the pockets of groups that deliver votes to Democrats, and much of that borrowed taxpayer money could even end up in Democrat campaign accounts by way of funneling through labor unions, ACORN and such.

The only thing the package appears to be stimulating are government growth and Democrat vote-delivering mechanisms.

From Huffingto Post:

Even as the media continues to cast the stimulus saga as one of mounting pressure on President Barack Obama to deliver a bill that's become mired in partisan bickering, public opinion remains squarely behind the President's effort. As Obama embarks today on a mini-campaign to sell the stimulus, the numbers indicate that he may be preaching to the converted. Jake Tapper of ABC News provides the essential rundown:

Sixty-seven percent of the American people approve of how President Obama's handling his efforts to pass an economic stimulus bill, as opposed to 48% for Democrats in Congress and 31% for congressional Republicans.

In addition, the disapproval rating for Congressional Republicans remains a "staggeringly high" 58%. And the public continues to view the package as a matter of paramount concern. 51% of those polled consider the plan's passage to be "critically important," with "Only 16% say it is 'not that important.'"

How many loyal republican families were thrown out of their jobs and healthcare today? I love hearing about the misery of those who brought us ths economic disaster.

Yahoooo!!!!!!
Ok...I understand the 60 vote thing to get the stimulus package to the floor for a vote. Would someone help me with the final vote.  After the Senate and House come up with a compromise bill for both houses to vote (on). Does that vote also require 60 votes in the Senate also, or is a simple majority sufficient for passage of the compromise bill?
Thanks

White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel

How does the above attitude differ from the Bush Administration's use of 9/11 to justify the Patriot Act?

In short, it does not.  Is this the change we voted for?
I'm glad Senator Kennedy is able to attend.
I would like to add that I support the stimulus package, however, I feel that it will never be enough until the oil companies are regulated and the enron loophole is entirely closed.
The oil companies have demolished this nation with the help of republicans and their so called 'tax-cuts' that are nothing more than the wealthy man's welfare!

Good for you Uncle Teddy.  We need your vote.  We need your voice.
