Blago, Libby prosecutor to stay on

From NBC's Pete Williams

Patrick Fitzgerald, the U.S. attorney in Chicago who brought criminal fraud charges against Rod Blagojevich, will be staying in his job in the Obama administration, even though he was appointed to the position by President George W. Bush.

U.S. attorneys are political appointees. The normal practice, when there's a change of political parties in the White House, is for the incoming administration to replace all 93 U.S. attorneys with appointees from the new president's party.  For now, the Obama administration has asked the current Republican-appointed U.S. attorneys to remain in their posts while it considers how many to retain.

But Fitzgerald will not be asked to move on. Sen. Dick Durbin of Illinois has recommended that Eric Holder, the new attorney general, keep Fitzgerald. That suggestion was "positively received," according to officials at the Justice Department and Sen. Durbin's office.

Fitzgerald has been the U.S. attorney in Chicago since 2001. His spokesman had no comment on Fitzgerald's future.

Great News!

The Dow's loss was its second in excess of 300 points since Barack Obama was inaugurated; the first was the 332-point loss on Jan. 20.

What do the two days have in common, Obama becomes president, Obama's Spending Bill Passes and his highly awaited Bank Plan is revealed.

Investors like them some Obama-nation.

When did replacing all 93 become "normal?"  It seems that Clinton was the one that replaced all 93 and no one barely blinked an eye.  But when Bush replaced WAY less than that, you could have thought the world was ending, according to the Libs.
Hey Marcus, don't forget Nov. 5th after The Great One was elected.  The Dow dropped then, too!

What did you expect?  We're in the middle of a horrible recession.  Your pathetic attempts to be cute do nothing to add to the dialogue.  Come back when you have something meaningful to add to the dialogue.
Rove, Cheney and Bush

Doesn't look he is done with you yet.
Palin backs out of CPAC.»
Washington Whispers reports that Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK) will no longer be speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) at the end of February. Palin told event organizers that the “duties of governing” now prevent her from attending:

“We’re obviously disappointed,” said a CPAC official. A spokesman for the three-day confab, organized by the American Conservative Union Foundation and others, said that Palin, the popular former vice presidential nominee, had indicated she would be able to attend but cited “duties of governing” in bowing out. Instead, she will send in a taped message

If Wall Street continues - we will find a way to make them no longer an issue for our country.

We put too much focus on Wall Street numbers and how they affect our economy.

If the wall streeters think that somehow their inactions to trade will make President Obama and his plan to revamp our economy and create jobs a failure.

They are sadly mistaken!!!

We can and will find a way to make them trade or isolate them from our financial society.

The bottom line Marcus D., Chicago - wall street will not continue to dictate our country's wealth and they certainly will not dictate our President efforts.

So don't get to happy with the Wall Street non-sense.

It was developed by man and so it can be undeveloped by man.

Honestly, I really think it will take a revolution to straighten this country out.

The Bush administration has created too many greedy monsters and they are use to it and they may be forced to break their destructive habits.

Thank you and GOD BLESS AMERICA

Normal is what ever the MSM chooses it to be. I guess two of the classes they teach you at university to become a "journalist" is Apologists for Liberals, and Blame It On the Republicans with a more detailed class in this area called Blame It All On Bush. All are upper level courses.

By the ham-fisted way todays modern media handles these areas, it looks like all these courses are available on a pass/fail basis.

David Gergen is the instructor for all the courses.
To Ted In Mid Michigan,

And DeVos could have made unemployment and the economy worst in Michigan than the governor you supported?

His company probably left based on the insane strategy she put into place with Michigan businesses that lead to a majority doing the exact same thing, and continue to do. Kentucky, Tennesee, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama all send a SHOUT OUT to JG for sending business their way!

In 5 years....we'll be BLOWN AWAY! Ever see that add?
You didn't know how much truth was there did you.

If Fitzgerald is doing his job, why get rid of him? Why should Eric Holder replace him while he has a case still pending against Blago. Wouldn't that delay the process?

In all fairness, be it republican or Democrat, you don't get rid of someone because of party affiliation...isn't that what the Bush Justice Department did? If I recall they had a nut that was in charge of hiring. I am sure there are a lot of other incapable attorneys that can hit the road.

Double Standards for Libs (Sent Tuesday, February 10, 2009 4:28 PM)

Somehow like most Republicans, you missed the point of the outrage about how Bush handled the replacements.  He selectively fired based on politics.  It had nothing to do with abilities.  But then he didn't recognize "ability".

I was going to say that I thought it great that the attorney prosecuting Blago be retained since he's the one with the background and insight.  Why start over?

Why do you Republicans insist on making everything about party politics?!?

And Marcus, the Dow doesn't like anything it can't see fast money for.  The banking bill is coming with strings this time - no free handouts for bankers.  The unknown frightens Wall Street and the Dow since they don't have Obama in their pocket like Bush and company were.

WHAT?!  YOU MEAN SHE ACTUALLY GOVERNS SOMETHING!  I thought her job was to whine and complain to the media about how she was mistreated by THE MEDIA.

Meaningful? The markets are not "meaningful"? Seems to most sane people the markets are very meaningful. Also, looks like you had less then nothing to add to the conversation, other then a whimpy little whine.

Apparently not for Michigan. Guess they're going to try and make a go of it from tourism alone. That's why the minimum wage law is so important to the people working in Michigan - it's the most any of them will ever make.
Fitzgerald is a good man.  Holder ought to put him on the trail of "evil doers" from the Bush Administration!

Perhaps Diane should get a job, go to work and lay off FR posting for a while.

We would all be better off for it.

Thank you.

You're pathetic. You don't know me from beans and yet you are ugly and critical. I'm fortunate to be employed full time thank you and don't see life through your dark colored lenses. If you don't like my posts, then don't read them. Get a life!

Ted In Mid Michigan,

Thanks for the boost, Ted! It's always good to have a friend in Michigan. Don't let 'ole fuddy duddy from Indy get to you.....she's pathetic and a real downer.
The Democratic Snotnose - If Wall Street continues - we will find a way to make them no longer an issue for our country.

You do that, and we'll find out a few things about you in short order. Like, are you a hunter, or a gatherer? My guess is gatherer in some weak tribe that would soon become extinct.
Probably too many democrat criminals around the country in the process of being prosecuted right now to let any go without "looking bad".

What did you expect?  We're in the middle of a horrible recession.  Your pathetic attempts to be cute do nothing to add to the dialogue.  Come back when you have something meaningful to add to the dialogue.

Simply repeating facts posted by major media organizations and the DOW. If you feel there is no connection to this as well as the Democrat take over of the house and senate in 2007, this country is really toast.

Please don't let them all be like Tim. There must be a few with a reasonable level of intelligence.
As a resident of IL, I'm happy to hear Mr. Fitzgerald will be staying on, although we weren't hearing anything here that would have suggested otherwise.  I'd have worried about the Blagojevich circus becoming even more ridiculous with a change in lead prosecutor.

One of the best things about Fitz is that- when he speaks, you get no sense of political ideology (from either side).  Just as it should be.
Well yeah, if Dickie Durbin recommends it, then it's got to be the thing to do. Dicks been right about things how many times this year? Zero you say.
