From NBC's Abby Livingston
Earlier today, we mentioned that Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, one of the GOP's rising stars, would give the Republican response to Obama's address to Congress on Feb. 24.

With a massive audience after the president’s delivery, this response might seem like an ideal perch to move on to bigger and better things.

That, however, has not always been the case. See these past responders

Know comes the real Rethuglican test:

Let’s challenge every Rethuglican that voted against the stimulus package.  That they should not accept any of the stimulus money for there state or district.

Let’s see how many of them can walk the walk; we know they can talk the talk.  Lets see them put the money were there mouth is.

Let’s start with Mr. Depends himself John McCain and Arizona!

They really need to refuse any of this money because it is all pork!  If they are so worried about the budget and borrowing money.   Let them refuse are return any money to the U.S. Treasury at once!
I guess we will have to wait until Feb-24th to get Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal response to the stimulus package!
I wonder if HADJI is going to bring the rest of his crew?

From previous thread:

Lowering health care costs will save employers billions.  Stimulus.

Keeping people in their homes will allow banks to collect more money than the fraction they would get on foreclosures.  It also creates stability.  More stability, more lending, stimulus.

Try thinking for yourself instead of repeating the GOP talking points.

A California liberal lecturing us on the economy. Now how's THAT for humor? How's all that extra government spending California has done for decades, just like Obama wants to do for the nation, working out for you Peter? California out of debt yet? If not, maybe you just didn't give enough money away. Keep at it, it will work out for you some day.
Just give one response:  4 million jobs.  Glad President Obama is on tape repeatedly claiming his stimulus bill will create or "save" 4 million jobs.  In 4 years, when there has been nowhere close to that number met, it will be good GOP substance for political ads.
We need to get someone a little bit more on the cheery side to balance out all of Obama's negatives that he's been sprewing out. Obama is so negative that a mortician would be able to do the job.
When are you going to post information about the deal reached on the stimulus.  I can't wait to see the snarling, rabid, incoherent comments from the rage-infected right-wingers.  It seems every Obama success sends them into a frenzy.

Suck it up, baby. We all can't be like Palin.
Here's what REAL LEADERSHIP can Accomplish
Here's what Rewsponsible governing is about

Thank you, Nancy Pelosi
Thank you, Harry Reid

Great job !!

It looks as though Democratic Leadership has put stimulative parts of the package back in

(it’s a Democratic ‘dirty trick’, governing in the nation’s interest)

From CNN:

'...Agreement reached on stimulus bill

Reid says new bill creates more jobs than Senate bill, spends less than House bill

Obama wants bill on his desk by Presidents Day

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Negotiators have resolved the differences between the House and Senate versions of the stimulus bill, Sen. Harry Reid said Wednesday.

Sen. Ben Nelson, D-Nebraska, played a key role in negotiations.

"The bills were really quite similar, and I'm pleased to announce that we've been able to bridge those differences," said Reid, the Senate majority leader.

"Like any negotiation, this involved give and take, and if you don't mind my saying so, that's an understatement," he said.

Negotiators worked late into the night to iron out differences between the two versions of the stimulus bill.

President Obama said he wanted the bill on his desk by Presidents Day, which is next Monday.

Reid praised the three "brave" GOP senators who broke ranks to the support the bill: Sens. Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe of Maine and Sen. Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania.  Watch Reid describe the deal »

Of the 219 Republicans in Congress, they were the only three to back the bill.

"Today we have shown that, working together, we can address the enormous economic crisis facing our country," Collins said.

Collins said the agreement has a price tag of $789 billion, less than both the House and Senate versions.

Reid said this middle ground creates more jobs than original Senate bill, and spends less than the original House bill.

Sen. Ben Nelson, D-Nebraska, summed up the bill as a "jobs bill."

"Today you might call us the 'jobs squad,' " said Nelson, one of the key negotiators. "Because that's what we're attempting to do: to make sure that people will have the opportunity to hang on to their jobs that they have today, and they'll be able to get jobs if they lose their jobs."

Multiple Democratic sources had offered details on topics that had to be worked out:

35 percent of the bill would be tax cuts; 65 percent would be spending.

Tax breaks for workers that had been set at $1,000 per family or $500 per individual would be scaled back to $800 per family and $400 per individual.

$44 billion in aid to states, including money for education and other services.

More funding to help people buy health insurance through the federal COBRA program.

$6 billion to $9 billion for modernizing and repairing schools.

The funding for schools is intended to assuage House Democrats who are upset that the Senate cut $20 billion for school construction.

Don't Miss
Group pledges to fight GOP senators who support stimulus
Stimulus bill clears critical hurdle
For House and Senate, it's time to compromise
The emphasis on "modernizing and repairing" is meant to appease Senate centrists who believe that school "construction" takes too long and therefore won't stimulate the economy, and that state governments, not the federal government, should be responsible for building schools

Montana Sen. Max Baucus, the chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, said it is possible the House could take the bill up as early as Thursday and the Senate possibly Friday.

Democrats in the Senate must hold on to at least two Republican votes in order to get the 60 votes needed to pass the bill. Not a single Republican voted in support of the House version of the bill, but the House Democrats have a large enough majority that they were still able to pass it. iReport.com: Share your thoughts on the stimulus package

The three Republican senators who voted in favor of the package indicated Wednesday that they were pleased with the agreement.

"As I said, unless the bill remained virtually in tact from what the agreement was last Friday, my support would be conditional on that, and we got there," Specter said. "I think it is an important component of putting America back on its feet."  Watch Specter say,"We hung tough" »

Specter said earlier Wednesday that he's aware of the political danger he's putting himself in but that action is needed to pump up the ailing economy.

"I understand the peril, but I didn't run for the United States Senate to further my own political interests," he said on CNN's "American Morning."

When asked about the possible political backlash from his vote supporting the bill, Specter said. "It's a good plan, not a perfect plan. But a good plan, and I'll take my chances."...

Thank you, Nancy Pelosi !!
We're on our way to recovery !!!

Hey First Read !!

Between Bobbie Jindal and Eric Cantor, wanna report REAL NEWS ???

(no market for THAT, huh ?)

Abby, your post reminded me of NBC sports "analyst" Jim Gray in 1997, when my beloved Bulls defeated the Utah Jazz in the NBA finals.  He was going on and on about how teams throughout history had fared, going into Game 6- and then attempting to use that unrelated info to predict how the Jazz would do.

Not surprisingly, Marv Albert's and Bill Walton's responses were along the lines of "What the heck does any of that have to do with THIS team?"

Don't be Jim Gray, Abby.
It doesn't seem that far-fetched for a bunch of 'old people' (my preferred term) to be OUT OF POLITICS.  I'm just saying that there might be a better common theme about why some left politics 10 years ago that is unrelated to giving the response.  I find it funny how pundits always try to classify pols.  Was Obama a JFK, a Reagan, a name-your-pol?  No, he was an Obama.  Jindal will probably be a Jindal.  Quite often character is what really matters--whether it be the pols character or the current character of the American people.

I would predict that Jindal would not run for 2012.  I think he has time with his youth, strike when the moment is right--probably not 2012 with a fractured Republican party.  And for the media's fascination with Palin, I feel the Republican sentiment around me to be more in line with Huckabee.  But then again, the Midwest and Iowa mentality don't mean much.  It's just strange to hear the punditry think that Evangelicals are her base.
See where Obama told businesses to not go to conferences in Las Vegas? Harry Reid, yes, Sen. Harry Reid from Nevada, had to defend Obama for saying that, even though businesses (you know, business is that thing where people make money) in Vegas are tanking. Obama just doesn't get the idea that he's killing the very businesses and people he says he's trying to help.

I guess this country will look like the old Soviet Union soon enough, bunch of old run down cities, no fun things to do because our leaders frown on such extravagance, lots of alcoholism. But, we'll have "Free Health Care", so that will be something to look forward to.
'...1999 – Rep. Jennifer Dunn (R-WA) and Rep. Steven Largent (R-OK) DUNN IS DECEASED; LARGENT OUT OF POLITICS...'

Was it the response what killed her ??

Largent is Head Coach of the Washington Redskins

Robert Dole became a TV sex symbol, advertizing Viagra
It's incredible.  Whenever Obama has any kind of success, it sends the Limbaugh Zombies into a frenzy......

jawillie, Philadelphia, PA

.....with no real measurable success, Obama and his Obama-bots wait and ponder this would be the response if Obama were to have success.

Jawillie, repeating the words and ideas fed to him by his leader, Sir Answer Not, tears through the dictionary looking for words to impress or confuse posters in the Obama-bot gallery.

Meanwhile, back in Gotham.....
And it’s Palin vs. Romney vs. Jindal for 2012 - and we’ve only just begun the pre-horserace jostling.

I wonder what areas of the economy Obama will criticize during his address? He's been using scare tactics and being a bully about getting everything he wants so far. You think he'll continue to act like a pouting child that isn't getting his way during the address? My guess is yes. Guess you need to tear down the country before you can rebuild it. The important part for us serfs is to avoid getting killed in any of the upcoming riots.
Where are all the white women?
I'm glad to see the GOP embracing a practicing Muslim like Jindal.
Maybe we need Sarah to respond. With the odds from this list she won't last long in the spot light....On second thought keep it Jindel. At least he won't "have to get back to you on that" You betcha (wink wink). He is one of the smartest GOPers around. With a little more experience he could go places.
This ISN'T a YouTube moment.....

It's a Faux Noise moment

From Washington Monthly.com:

'...FOX NEWS MISSES THE POINT....

Even by Fox News standards, yesterday was more embarrassing than most. In the morning, the Senate Republican Communications Center sent Fox News a press release, talking about how the economic stimulus bill grew over time. Shortly thereafter, Fox News' Jon Scott was on the air talking about the package: "We thought we'd take a look back at the bill, how it was born, and how it grew, and grew, and grew."

As it turns out, Fox News took the Republicans' materials and aired it, word for word, without telling viewers that the "story" was a creation of Republican officials. It was so blatant, Fox News' on-screen graphic included the identical typo made in the original GOP document, making it obvious that the network used a party press release as a news script.

Today, after having been caught serving as a propaganda outlet for a political party, the fair-and-balanced network responded. Jon Scott told viewers:

"Yesterday on Happening Now we showed you how the stimulus bill has grown over time. Our story prompted by a news release from the Senate Republican Communication Center. Their point that a $56 billion proposal in September has grown to $838 billion in five months. In compiling that story, our producers and researchers did what we always do -- we verified the accuracy of the material. But in double checking the newspaper quotes referenced in that news release we made the same mistake they did. We labeled a Wall Street Journal article as having run in 2009 when in fact it was 2008. That was our error, and we apologize."

So, let me get this straight. Fox News ran a Republican press release as news, and Jon Scott apologizes for the typo? That's a bit like a thief getting caught in a jewelry store, and apologizing for leaving broken glass on the carpet.

Jon, no one cares about the typo. We care that Fox News pretends to be legitimate, but airs Republican propaganda as news content -- unapologetically.

Karl Frisch concluded, "I'd question Fox News' journalistic integrity; that is of course if they had any to question in the first place."...'

It's just licky there's no viable Nazi Party in America

If there was, you can imagine what Faux Noise would be putting on their screens

What ever happened to David Duke

Happy Birthday Darwin
Why not Hannity or Rush for the response? Obama seems terrified of those two, he's always cutting them down. It's sophomoric on Obama's part for sure, but Obama seems more scared of Rush and Sean then he is of any terrorist. Kind of a weird thing with Obama.
Ann Coulter!
Let me give the reponse: "To President Pelosi, Horrible Harry and Barney Frank, who ought to be serving time, and Mr. Obama and his tax-evading Cabinet of Crooks. - do what's best for the country and quit making this "stimulus" sound like it's gonna work when all of you know it's not. You're making fools of yourself and George Bush look real good. Quit exploiting the American public for the chance to suck them into your little crooked power game. All of you have proven how inept and unethical you are and Mr. Obama is a proven terrible judge of integrity and character." When the "stimulus" fails don't feel bad because for us to expect anything different would be asking too much. Now get the hell out of here."
During the address will Obama be waving around that toliet plunger like he was during that St. Patricks Day parade in Chicago a few years back?
What does Bobby think of the GOP "Barack the Magic Negro" CD? Does George Allen call him "Macaca"? Does John McBush refer to him as "That one"? Why does "Bobby" hide his true first name,"Piyush"? Should we call him B. Piyush? And wouldn't he be more popular with the base if he chose the pseudonym, "Bubba"? Why is he so ashamed of his Muslim origins?

Democraps will love Bobby J.

Democraps fear Limbaugh and Palin.

Democraps, why toilets were invented.

I think the Mayors of San Francisco, Oakland, Sacramento, Los Angeles, and San Diego should give the response for the Republicans. They can explain how unstoppable spending by the state government didn't seem to help them "spend their way out a recession" like Obama is trying to do. California has a $42 Billion dollar deficit this year, and the Democrats there want to raise the state taxes even more so they can have even more programs!

Yes, let the California mayors tell us how huge deficit spending on 'infrastructure' has helped their states economy.
Maybe Jindal should rethink giving the response.  Folks don't seem to fair very well.  Seems almost like a suicidal mission.

In that, let Limbaugh give the response.  Fitting end for him....maybe it will get him off the airwaves forever!!!!!!
It appears each day that Obama is trying to make a mockery out of the words of John F. Kennedy as each days goes by.

It's sad to see an attempt to scare people in to believing that only the government can handle things for them and make it better. The town hall meetings this week prove that's where people's minds are.

John F. Kennedy once said, "Ask not what your country can do for you, Ask what you can do for your country"

Obama seems driven to make that statement a piece of history of nation of people that was, not one of a people that is.
Republican response:
tax cuts
free market
deregulation
Laffer curve
Faith-based help
Thousand points of light
Go out and shop
Buy duct tape
Bootstraps
self-reliance
no handouts
no spending
big corporations are the solution
it will get worse (we hope)
pray
Does it really matter who gives the Republican response? Their base probably won't even tune in. After all, how do you follow a political rock star like President Obama?  Maybe they should consider opening for him!
Hopalong Jindal? As soon as he get settled into an elected position he's just won, he's on to the next election and ignores his present one. He has spent the majority of his time out of state fundraising for his next run and completely neglects state business.
Yeah but remember.. this is "DOH" bama with his taxcheating side kick  tubotax tim, and the way this presidency is failing it will be a piece of cake..can't wait for the dumocrats to pass the censorhip doctrine I want to go on the tinklers show or the bathtub boys show and put them down in person.. thanks guys..keep up the dumb post
Being a pretty hard core DEM at this point, I've got to say Jindal seems to be the only REP with some sense of intelligence, at this point.  Of course, this is his chance to either blow it, or reinforce it...

I'll be watching...
Why do they have to give a response? The only response the American people want to hear is "Mr. President, we are going to work with you anyway we can to make sure this bill is a success. Anything negative will only put them further in the hole. Why the republicans can't see beyond their nose, I don't know why! The American people are willing to help so why can't the republicans jump on board and do their part. It is enough fighting overseas and every where else, why do they have to be so negative about everything. Obama has went above and beyond his duty to extent his hand to work with them; no it is their turn. They just might have more success to work with than working against Obama.
Jindals a Palinesque whack job (probably even worse).  When he gets his state anywhere close to straightened out he may have earned some cred, til then, he's just another transparent attempt by the gop to give the illusion of being a "big tent" party.
I'm not quite sure how to position my response. However, considering the employer of the source, I'd say it leans a bit left.  I can't wait to receive my share of the wealth, NOT !!!!  This is absolutely ridiculous the way Pelousy and Reid are running things. And Obama, hopefully he can fix things before we find out he IS NOT A US CITIZEN !!!
The GOP needs to be very careful on how they responding to President Obama. They have a terrible time understanding facts, comprehending materials read/said, and have very weak speaking abilities. The GOP will respond ignorantly to President Obama, and that will make him even more frustrated. So GOP! Watch how you respond because, this President is writing down everything! Time to move forward America!
I AM THROUGHLY DISCOURAGED AND DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS
STIMULUS PACKAGE.  THE INTEREST ON ALL THIS BORROWED MONEY WILL BE 800 BILLION DOLLARS AND WILL RISE EACH
AND EVERY YEAR.  THE GOVERNMENT IS SUPPOSED TO PROTECT AND FOLLOW THE CONSTITUTION, NOT INCREASE SOCIAL PROGRAMS TO 39% OF OUR ECONOMY.  WHEN THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES LOOKS INTO THE CAMERA
AND STATES, "THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO PORK IN THIS BILL"
HE LOOSES ALL CREDIBILITY WITH THE THINKING PEOPLE.  THE GOVERNMENT IS NOT THE ANSWER.  THEY SHOULD STEP ASIDE AND NOT TURN OUR WONDERFUL COUNTRY INTO A SOCIALIST COUNTRY.
