First thoughts: Hope makes a comeback

From Chuck Todd, Mark Murray, and Domenico Montanaro
*** Hope makes a comeback: One thing was absolutely clear from President Obama’s well-received address to Congress last night: The hope that propelled him to the presidency was back. At the top of his remarks, Obama declared, “We will rebuild, we will recover, and the United States of America will emerge stronger than before.” And then after a stern talk about our economy -- how we got here, and how we possibly fix it -- he ended his speech this way: “If we come together and lift this nation from the depths of this crisis; if we put our people back to work … then someday years from now our children can tell their children that this was the time when we performed, in the words that are carved into this very chamber, ‘something worthy to be remembered.’” The address was also a report card of sorts. Obama touted to the public what he has achieved in his first month in office: the economic stimulus, ordering the closing of GITMO, passing the expansion of health insurance for children. Here’s a final thought about the address: Obama is so comfortable delivering a speech. Even after he and Pelosi slipped up at the beginning, the president was fully in control. Also, when is the last time we’ve heard humor and laughs at a State of the Union (or its equivalent)? “Nobody messes with Joe.”

*** A softer opposition: Republicans must have read the same polls we have because, overall, their tone in responding to Obama’s speech last night was much softer than we’ve seen in the past several days. Mitch McConnell said Obama’s “message was important and timely: America faces great challenges in the months and years ahead, and I was heartened to hear of his commitment to the millions who are struggling to hold onto homes and jobs and who are worried about what the future holds for themselves and their children. As we work to address all these concerns, we will have our differences… But one thing is clear: working through the current troubles will require a shared commitment as we address America’s challenges ahead.” And here was John Boehner before the speech: “Obama will make a compelling case that our nation can overcome the immense challenges before us… Republicans want to be partners with the President in finding responsible solutions to the challenges facing our nation, but thus far congressional leaders in the President’s own party have stood in the way.”

*** Not the Jindal we know: As for Gov. Bobby Jindal’s official GOP response, it appears someone gave him bad advice last night, whether it was his awkward entrance or his way-too-casual delivery. The Louisiana governor, a Rhodes scholar, is a serious guy who’s known for sometimes being too wonky and even somewhat humorless. Well, he tried too hard NOT to look wonky and humorless. But it didn't work; he wasn’t the Bobby Jindal we’ve seen before. Also, his speech seemed to be too much of a brochure about himself rather than about his party and its ideas. To be fair, Jindal got better as his speech wore on, and the good news is that past responders who also got poor initial reviews -- Tim Kaine and Kathleen Sebelius come to mind -- easily recovered. One other thing: Is it disingenuous for Jindal to slam the role of the federal government (“Democratic leaders in Washington place their hope in the federal government; we place our hope in you”) when that said federal government is rebuilding New Orleans after Katrina?

*** I taw a Tweety bird: Your First Read authors have yet to get the Twitter bug. But we’ve got to ask: Are politicians and their offices beginning to embarrass themselves by Tweeting every thought in their brains? Aren’t some things best left unsaid? According to Politico, early on during Obama’s speech, Rep. Joe Barton’s (R) office sent out this Tweet: “Aggie basketball game is about to start on espn2 for those of you that aren't going to bother watching pelosi smirk for the next hour.” The office then fired off this CYA: “Disregard that last Tweet from a staffer.” Meanwhile, Rep. John Culberson (R) sent this message: “We are at war -- seems to me honoring our troops should come on page one rather than the end of the speech.” He then later Tweeted, “This is a great privilege to be here and I will try hard to find ways to work together while preserving my core principles.”

*** Fulfilling or breaking a campaign promise? It’s more than likely, though, that last night’s speech won’t be the most memorable White House event this week. According to NBC’s Jim Miklaszewski and Courtney Kube, President Obama is expected to announce later this week that more than half of the American troops will be withdrawn from Iraq within 19 months. The plan would draw down the number of forces from the current 142,000 to around 50,000. While that certainly would fall short of the president’s campaign pledge to withdraw all U.S. combat forces within 16 months, one senior military official told Mik and Kube: “It’s close.” The official adds that the remaining force of 50,000 would still contain a sizeable “combat element” to provide rapid reaction assistance to Iraqi combat forces and force protection for the remaining American troops and U.S. government civilians. One other piece of White House news to watch today: At 11:00 am ET, the president is expected to announce former Washington Gov. Gary Locke as his nominee for Commerce secretary.

*** The abortion wars cometh? Be sure not to miss the piece by CBN’s David Brody that anti-abortion groups are up in arms over Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius potentially leading HHS. The reason: abortion. Indeed, we have it on good authority that the reason the White House is hesitating on Sebelius is that they don't want an abortion fight now. They know one is probably coming in the summer -- with a Supreme Court vacancy -- and would rather punt. Then again, we suppose that any other person Obama might nominate to lead HHS would support abortion rights. And if it’s not Sebelius, does that mean we the administration won't have an HHS secretary when it convenes its health-care summit next week?

Some Enchanted Evening.

President Obama has risen to the challenge with all the problems he has to confront. That was evident last night. It’s called audacity of hope.

I thought the best moment for me last night was when President Obama spoke about the little girl who wrote to members of Congress asking that they do something about her school in South Carolina. It’s a crumbling old dilapidated building. In her letter she said of herself and her fellow classmates: “We are not quitters”.  What was striking was that her letter wasn’t ignored.

There’s nothing quite like a child telling the grown ups to wake up and see what’s going on in our educational system. Don’t know why she didn’t reach out to Senator Lindsey Graham. I would guess that maybe he thought it was “too much money” to spend on education.   I have seen a great deal of quitting in the GOP. This IS America. And this country was neither founded nor built by quitters. They need to get some backbone and stop the whining.

First Up For Them: Jindal. His speech wasn’t good for anybody. The GOP is going to need to start sifting through some more resumes.

We have a President who believes in America. Who believes in Americans. No talk of terror. No talk of fear. Just hope. As the title of this article says, it has made a comeback.

Cheers.
A MAJOR storyline yesterday was the GOP's civil war taking truly stunning proportions, with Jim Bunning threatening to sue the NRSC and Michael Steele says the RNC could target Arlen Specter. Details: http://campaigndiaries.com/2009/02/24/stunning-proportions/
Looks like Gallup puts Obama approval in the 50's now. Soon enough they'll be in the 40's. People are starting to catch on.
Good morning, everyone.  How are you all this fine, sunny morning?  Personally, I'm feeling like a song, dedicated to all our dear
right-wing blogger friends ...

(to the tune of "I've Got Music")

We've got Obama
You've got Jindal ....
Now who's got "trauma"?
You'd better pray for a whole lot more ....
Yep.  That's about the only thing we can say about Obama:  he gives good speech.  But it's just words.  All words.  Other than that, he's in over his head, letting Pelosi pull his strings.
FR: Rep. Joe Barton’s (R) office sent out this Tweet: “Aggie basketball game is about to start on espn2 for those of you that aren't going to bother watching pelosi smirk for the next hour.”

Why are you being critical? That's the most informational item to come out of that building last night. And that's all Pelosi did last night was smirk. That, and jump up and down like her undies were too tight. And did Governor Paterson pick out that dress for Nancy last night? Yeesh.
Maybe, finally, Obama has realized he is the President now, and this is HIS country and He has responsibility for it. Maybe he can be a Field General, not a politician.

He saw a used car, wanted it, bought it and now it is his to make it be the best he can. No need to point to the previous owners and complain. What good would it do him or this country.

Salute and Execute.
John Boehner before the speech: “Obama will make a compelling case that our nation can overcome the immense challenges before us…

Looks like the folks back home have gotten in his ear!!!
american need help with a PLAN, not talk, ACTION, not talk.
all the repuiblicans have done so far is talk.
the republican response was lame, at first i though i was going to here that guys life story!!!!
but the best of the night was when hillary came out, she looked good, and very happy,
and Clarence Thomas, when the president went to greet the justices, he gave ginsburge a big hug, and spent as little time with clarence as possible!!!
if i'm clarence i would watch my back, the president does not like him.

So we're getting another $400+ billion dollar spending bill. This is the one where all the earmarks got thrown into. Obama of course will sign it and come up with some excuse as to why he's signing a bill with earmarks in it, because during the campaign he said he wouldn't sign a bill with earmarks. I guess that too was just idle campaign rhetoric.
I cannot believe how rude this station was last night.
rachel was so disrespectful and Keith before Jindal even spke said OH GOD.  Come on. Everyone has differences this was over the top.
I am so full of Hope today! Oh, wait, I just need to go to the bathroom. Nevermind.
"I intend to hold these banks fully accountable for the assistance they receive, and this time, they will have to clearly demonstrate how taxpayer dollars result in more lending for the American taxpayer. This time, CEOs won't be able to use taxpayer money to pad their paychecks or buy fancy drapes or disappear on a private jet. Those days are over."

WELL......
Welcome aboard flight 2009 with service by Wall Street Executive Air and Fat Cat Airlines. Turbulence in expected.
http://www.governmentalityblog.com/my_weblog/2009/02/fat-cat-airlines-still-bringing-laughs-tears.html
Hold on to your wallets. Yor kids and your hope for American.  This is going to be a bumpy ride. We can't spend for all this. It is impossible.  Wake UP
Now the repugnant ones are bringing back their clueless abortion wars.  When are you intolerant tyrants going to stop sticking your noses in other people's business?  Just a losing issue for a party of losers, especially when we have bigger fish to fry.

This is the booby jindal I have come to know and hate, boring and out of touch with reality.  I feel sorry for the folks of Louisiana who have to settle for jindal and that prostitute hugger vitter.

Looks like some of the repugnant ones have been poll watching and have seen their popularity decline quickly as Obama has taken charge of the political scene.  They are trying to take on a very popular president which is political suicide.  I just love watching the repugnant ones shoot themselves in the foot as they incompetently try to face off against a force of nature they have no chance of defeating.

Obama Rocked the House!
Well, I was wrong. I was sure FR would find something negative to carp about in Obama's speech. Glad I was wrong! LOL!

Obama's speech was hopeful and educational at some points, like when he talked about the importance of lending. It offered practical areas for reform--energy, education and health care. Yet, he didn't get bogged down in wonkish detail, which would have been inappropriate for a speech like last night's. (Does anyone doubt he could have explained--in excruciating detail--every element of energy, education and health care? I don't.)

I liked Obama's relaxed demeanor and the playful moments. I was also very amused by Pelosi. Did anyone count how many times she leapt to her feet?! She seemed determined to fill her role as supporter-in-chief. LOL!

Finally, the Republicans should just bide their time. Right now, all their complaints about Obama and his plans seem premature and out of touch with most Americans. They should use the time to figure out what they want to focus on in the 21st Century--something that needs to include more people than those in the Deep South, clinging to old ways of life and opinions.
Thank you both !!
Someone was posting with my name, yesterday

Tzalaran:  ‘...believe that would be a MSierra, SF impostor.

read a couple of crazy right wing rhetoric posts using their screen name.  anyone that is posting propaganda using someone else's screen name shouldn't be taken seriously.

guess the congress ran out of steroid controversies and so had to focus on the outbreak of chimp attacks.

must be another left wing conspiracy to deprive the conservative movement their secret weapon: ninja chimps trained by Chuck Norris...  ;)...’

THANK YOU !!!
I didn’t post racist or anti-Obama nonsense

Ed, FW, TX:  ‘...Heads up everyone, there is a impostor posting as MSierra. you can tell from the simple minded GOPer leaning talking points. What a creep!

Get a life moron!...’

And THABK YOU, Ed
I think this started after I answered a Moon Dawg post

someone on msnbc just said, "...Bobby Jindal following President Obama is like the Rolling Stones opening for Air Supply..." or something to that effect.  Nice simile.
--------
I don't believe anything Republican's say.  period.  They have no credibility and zero broad spectrum comprehension.  Jindal invoking government failure vis a vie Katrina, while auditioning for National Stage acceptance so HE can run Government; well now that was just perfect True Red Hypocrisy.  Admittedly, Obama is a hard act to follow - and Sebelius didn't do much better, my memory isn't warped.  But I find myself thinking, 'bring Jindal on in 2012 or even 2016 - he seems pretty beatable'.
Meanwhile, Rep. John Culberson (R) sent this message: “We are at war -- seems to me honoring our troops should come on page one rather than the end of the speech.”

------------------------------------------

I have a question for Mr. Culberson...

Isn't trumping up the "war" and ignoring the economy how we got into this friggin' mess to begin with?
Barack had the right message with the right tone and the right delivery.  He is so in touch with reality and the majority of real Americans.  He is the leader we need now.  Can you imagine if McNasty had won and he had to step up to the plate and deliver a homerun speech?  Yeah Mission Impossible!

Isn't if totally funny how Sinner Sarah has to pay back some per diem expenses and pay back taxes on her per diem?  I just love the self inflicted wounds the reopugnant ones have given themselves by backing such a deadbeat taxpayer as this Wicked Witch of Wasilla.

Impeach Palin Now!
The Providence-Pitt basketball game was very entertaining last night. Florida-LSU also. A great night of B-Ball on ESPN.
Pres. Obama has always kept hope in his speeches. He has always said that we will get through this. I guess you all sleep through this part of it. Yes, these are difficult times, but he has always made me feel positive.

Jindal made me feel like I was in 2nd grade and he was schooling me. What an idiot. Palin delivered better than he did. You say he is better..he would have to be a LOT better to even be mediocre. First of all his speech was full of lies and misstatements. He is talking about things that aren't even in the Recovery Plan, then making fun of things that are in there that are valuble. Tell the people who live in Alaska or other states where they live close to a volcano they don't need the volcano warning.. then tell people in New Orleans they don't need hurricane warning systems. Or people in Florida. What an idiot.

A QUANDRY FOR FECKLESS REPUBLICANS:

How do republicans deal with President Obama?  The President gave a great speech.  It was positive in tone and he laid-out spectifics.  But the speech alone will not convert the conservative obstructionist approach. It will be the poll numbers!! They have no new ideas, but they can read poll numbers.  They know their numbers are in the gutter and it is because they have been obstructionists.

It is facinating that in the primaries, Hillary could not defeat Barack.  In the general election, McCain was not effective in beating Obama. And now, the GOP Congress is clueless about how to compete with President Obama.  You can bet that today, there are strategy meetings trying to figure out how to compete with this man.

It is also facinating that President Obama is winning using Christian principles.  Be kind to your opposition, reach-out with respect.  Follow the Golden Rule. With this approach, the President is hard to attack.

My suggesttion to my few conservative friends is to start doing what is best for America. That may be counter intuitive to Rush Limbaugh type thinking, but the time is now and it is the right thing to do.

One thought about Bobby Jindal.  Some say he is smart, but I learned in first grade (show-and-tell) not to follow the most popular kid in the room. Guess they don't do Show-in-Tell in India or Louisana.
Radical anti-abortion groups, in need of an "issue" so they can raise money and so they don't have to come to the table and work on ways to actually reduce the number of abortions, have settled on a new target. Their absolutism will continue to block any actual progress toward their claimed goal.
Nice try GOP. Put out the "non-white" boy for your response last night to "show" you've changed and now are the Party of inclusion. Problem is.....you've got the same old white boys putting out the same, old, tired message! Tax cuts. Period. That's all you've got. Tax cuts. Yeah, how's THAT worked for all of us these past 8 years?????? Back to the drawing boards, GOP. You STILL don't get it.
From HuffPost:

'...Polls: Obama Won The Night

Instant public surveys on Barack Obama's address before Congress showed, by and large, that the public was incredibly receptive to his speech, regardless of political party. But that did not hold true for every single study.

A CBS News poll of approximately 500 people saw approval of the president rise from 62 percent before the speech to 69 percent afterward.

Meanwhile, a poll on CNN showed that 68 percent of respondents -- who skewed a bit Democratic -- viewed the speech positively, 24 somewhat positively, and only eight percent not positively. Eighty-two percent supported the president's economic plan as outlined in the speech, while 17 percent opposed it.

Those results were buttressed by the findings of longtime Democratic pollster Stan Greenberg. In his own dial poll, which included 50 participants of mixed gender, education and politics, Greenberg found a large swath of bipartisan support for Obama's addres. That included a 14 percent jump, from 62 to 76 percent, in the favorability rating for the president.

Saying at the onset that this was an "immensely successful speech," he highlighted a few issues on which Obama won over the audience.

   * On taxes, "there was a 26-point gain," from 38 to 64 percent, "the biggest gains that he made." * On the deficit, "there was an 18 point swing... from 42 percent to 60 percent." * On Iraq, "there was a 18-point swing" (no numbers were offered)

"I've never seen this," Greenberg added. For a large part of the speech, all three, the Republican, Democratic and independent line where virtually in the same place."

What was striking, Greenberg concluded, was "how un-polarized the reaction was to this speech. I have not quite seen that."

He should tell that to the generally conservative Luntz, Maslansky Strategic Research group. Mike Maslansky, the CEO of that firm, when speaking with the Huffington Post, said he found "some of the biggest partisan divides that we ever see" in the reaction to Obama's address.

In a survey of 29 registered Democrats and Republicans in suburban Virginia, who Maslansky said were ALL generally skittish about Obama's economic plans and housing proposals, Obama managed to win over a large chunk of the crowd. Eleven respondents, nine of whom were Democrats, thought that the speech exceeded expectations. Only three thought it failed to meet expectations, all of whom were Republicans. But the responses often broken down by political affiliation.

Talk on the stimulus, Maslansky said, proved most divisive, as did talk of repairing the housing industry and, more generally, health care reform.

On energy, Obama won bipartisan plaudits, as he did when he emphasized personal responsibility both for parents dealing with their kids' education and politicians dealing with on pet interests.

"Overall, we saw some of the biggest partisan divides that we ever see in political speeches," Maslansky concluded. "The Democrats loved almost everything Obama had to say, the Republicans hated almost everything Obama had to say. There were certainly areas that Obama had working for both groups, but what was startling is just how divided people are when hearing these issues."...'

Polls are helpful
But, Obama has to deliver

PS
Jindal was a joke
We're facing an economic crisis and he's giving us his biography

It's the Federal government that is rebuilding New Orleans, not the private sector
Good speech, hard to criticize, but Repigs will anyway.  Jindal was lame---it wasn't the Free Market or Joe the Plummer who pulled New Orleans out of the water, it was the GOVERNMENT.  It was botched only because the dingleberry in charge was a REPUBLICAN. It's not an example of how inefficient Big Gummint is, it's just an example of how inefficient government can be when run by nitwit REPUBLICANS. Is Jindal going to send the rejected money (since when did he get to pick and choose?!?) to Culliforneeya, as Arnold asked him to?
Jindal was so disappointing.  First off what's with the Republicans trying to jam their candidates biography down our throats?  It's like McCain calling himself maverick ... people have to form their opinions not have them handed to them because that's how you want to be perceived.  And its so obvious they pick off what they think "worked" for the other guys ... Palin = woman, Steele = black, Jindal = young, "American" dream lineage ... without knowing what's really at issue?

And Jindals IQ is a million and his speech was titled "Americans can do Anything"?  That's so Boys State.

Last, I do not think he can recover, at least not with me.  What he proved last night is he is a tool for for the core party idiots that ruined the country.  No matter what, their going to give their crappy lines, even if Obama just said the opposite 30 minutes ago.  No matter what they can't resist the lies ... the monorail from Vegas?  Not to mention that whole weirdly twisted Katrina line of thought or ripping on federal government for giving his states 150B dollars?  Or saying what works in Baton Rouge can work in Washington .... Really.  Louisiana and Alaska are the ideal we should be striving for for all of America?  No offense Louisianans, but I wouldn't say what works in Rockford, IL can surely work for the rest of America.

Clearly a disappointing coming out.  I wouldn't have given his speech in Freshman English in college.
How refreshing to hear an intelligent, cogent, compassionate, hopeful and uplifting state of the union like speech. GOP should just hang it up because over 60% of Americans are in awe of our new president NOT with the lame same old garbage/retoric they try to spin on us. You know it's that old lipstick on the pig thing!
How annoying was Nancy Pelosi last night? I am a true blue Democrat, but she tries me NUTS. Somebody give her a tranqulizer next time to stop the figeting. So distracting.

I was very moved by three things in Obama's speech: his equating educating oneself with patriotism, (take that, George and Charlie!), his call for all of us to support the troops, and his vow that America will not torture. (Pretty sad these points aren't "obvious," but that's were 8 years of Bush left us.)
I am so full of Hope today! Oh, wait, I just need to go to the bathroom. Nevermind.

Ignorance turly is bliss for the republicans.  I can't believe after eight years...EIGHT YEARS of the Bush administration they refuse to acknowledge that a new direction is needed for the better of the whole country...not just a few!  REPUBLICANS JUST DON'T GET IT!
Congresspeople better be wary about to which staffers they entrust Twitter.
Pat ~ liked your song so much better, but either way, serious singing is involved this morning.  Cheers to you, too.

As for Jim Bunning ~ I predict that's he's politically dead ... now.

As for the polls ~ Ask the same folks what they thought about Jindal's speech.  All I heard was George W. Bush ... without the sparkle and wit.  If you know what I mean.
Yep.  That's about the only thing we can say about Obama:  he gives good speech.  But it's just words.  All words.  Other than that, he's in over his head, letting Pelosi pull his strings.
KLM in MI (Sent Wednesday, February 25, 2009 9:31 AM)

--------------------------------------

I'd dare say President Obama has done more in a month to try and fix the economy that President Bush did from the middle of September to the end of his presidency.

Perhaps you'd like to point to something that Bush did during the waning months of his presidency as the economy crumbled around him.

Go ahead...I'll wait.
Even more important than getting our troops out of Iraq fast is getting Blackwater, KBR and Halliburton out of there even quicker.  Those 3 firms have done more to make the violence worse and wasted more taxpayer money than can be tolerated.  We need to audit these 3 criminal firms and make them pay back all the taxpayer money they wasted, it's a matter of national security.

Barack scored a big knockout of jindal.  It was like watching a boxing match between Muhammed Ali and a one armed midget and it was no contest and a first second knockout!  Where Obama was honest and inspirational jindal was dishonest and boring with no new ideas.  The Dope of Nope just isn't in the same class as the Great Obama!

Barack Rocked the House and bobby bit the dust!
Jindal is an idiot, and he should just keep his mouth shut.  He is trying to make a name for him s elflf and he allready did, his name is "idiot."
Bobby Jindal has forgotten who was president when the government didn't help with Katrina.  He's also forgotten the billions of dollars that have been forthcoming since then.  He's just another lightweight, like Sarah Palin, that the Republicans are trotting out in the hope of siphoning off identity voters.
FR:  You may want to check into why a Mr. Gordon Pitner was able to forward an ridiculous email to the entire FR list-serv just now.
Looks like Gallup puts Obama approval in the 50's now. Soon enough they'll be in the 40's. People are starting to catch on.
Polly Pols

Are you on the same planet as everyone else.
Did you watch the address last night.
First Read - did you just get hacked??  I just got a strange email from Gordon Pitner and it says it's to FIRST_READ@lists.msnbc.com and it is all about illegal aliens being the reason USA is bankrupt.  Doesn't seem like Chuck Todd's style to me.  :-)
Last night was a blast - reminded me of all the excitement from the campaign - all those debate nights!

Many people compliment President Obama's "oratory skills", but for me it's so much deeper than that.

It is the sense that he really believes what he is telling us. It's not just hope for hope's sake - it's hope based on convictions and vision.
It's been a loooooooong time since we had these qualities in a leader - the foresight to see a better future for America and the organizational ability to actualy reach consensus to get it done.

The winner in all of this is not just President Obama - the winner is the American people. Finally OUR VOICES and OUR NEEDS are FRONT AND CENTER in the White House - and that is the CHANGE so many of us voted for.

P.S. My eagle ear identified Chris Matthews as the utterer of the "Oh God" before Governor Jindal's response. Am I right?

I agree it was a rude and unfortunate slip, and I am applying the newly named "Geithner rule" to Governor Jindal's delivery - I'm not going to fault him for not being a polished professional TV personality.

However I do fault him for filling his speech with tired arguments and the "speed rail from Vegas to Disneyland" lie. Why did First Read let that easily dubunked lie stand?

http://mediamatters.org/items/200902180010

P.S.S. Good work acknowledging the First Lady at the beginning of your speech Mr. President . . . all you husbands out there . . . take notes! :)
cannot believe how rude this station was last night.
rachel was so disrespectful and Keith before Jindal even spke said OH GOD.  Come on. Everyone has differences this was over the top.
-------------------------------------------------
There's a reason why MSNBC's ratings are in the toilet.  Last month Fox News beat MSNBC and CNN COMBINED.  No one wants to hear people slobbering all over Obama as Olbermann and Matthews do night after night.
Pat Boston MA and Anna Molly:  Great comments: It was indeed a delightful evening.

Energy, Health and Education:  Three important goals.  In about a month we are going to see new projects spring up all over the country.  These projects will capture the headlines and begin to bring back HOPE.
Have a great day.
Dear KLM in MI:  I would rather have " Pelosi pulling his strings" any day, then to have the inept, insane, and inane antics of McCain and Palin in office!! I mean where were you when Jinal admitted last night that they( the republicans) were going to try to regain our trust? I shudder to think what the "dynamic duo" would be doing just about now if they were in office.
Reply All and Kelly -- we saw that, and our tech people are looking into it. Thank you.
I think the good Governor from Louisiana got a raw deal last night.  He might have been duped. The Republican leadership must not want him.  They know how good the President is and they wanted someone to take the fall giving the rebuttal.  I think they might be looking at Romney, and this will be their way of eliminating other potential candidates. On another note, wasn't it nice to see that big hug from Justice Ginsburg to the President?
I don't think there is enough capacity in the GOP to deal with the quick-march onslaught of ideas, proposals, summits, etc., that President Obama is unleashing.  The man is everywhere at once.  The GOP is overmatched at this point -- we certainly know Gov. Jindal is not ready for prime time -- yet, but he is clearly one smart man.

I do find Gov. Jindal's hypocrisy interesting, about Louisiana actually adding jobs.  While that is probably true, the underlying reason is all the billions (you know, those nasty Fedreal dollars that Gov. Jindal hates) being pumped in for Katrina recovery -- a recovery botched by, you guessed it, the lovely and talented GOP.

Governor, if you don't need the money, then don't take it, but don't get all high and mighty with those who need to take it and use it on behalf of their citizens.  Not to take it would be irresponsible and Governor Crist, for example, is not an irresponsible man.

I don't believe anything Republican's say.  period.  They have no credibility and zero broad spectrum comprehension
-------------------------------------------------
There's that open minded Clara again.  I bet Bobby Jindal, the Rhodes Scholar, is waking up this morning thinking 'sure wish I was as smart as Clara is.'
Hey Obama speeches are Chris & Keith's PORN

There will be a skip in their steps today.

Did they watch it together???? huh

Posts like this make me fear for America's future.  Kathy you are completely and utterly wrong.  This is not President's Obama does not own this country, it is mine, and yours, and every other citizen's - The president, whomever he is, does not even run it - WE do. President Obama is just our most famous employee.

The only gripe is, as usual, the lack of details for his sweeping agenda. Curing cancer? Come on...
