GOP future: The party of 'No'?

Posted: Thursday, February 26, 2009 9:14 AM by Mark Murray
Filed Under:

On the opening day of CPAC, this probably isn't the kind of Politico headline Republicans want: "GOP at risk of becoming party in the no.” Sixteen Republicans broke with party lines on the $410 billion omnibus package "on a vote Minority Whip Eric Cantor had urged his colleagues to reject. And the cracks in the facade appear to be the first public signal of Republican rank-and-file squeamishness with a remarkably high-risk strategy that promises an uncertain return. For Republicans, a central question looms: Is saying no to Obama’s agenda the way to get voters to say yes to an already beleaguered GOP brand?"

The AP's Fouhy wraps the groundswell of criticism Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal faced from the left and right for his response to Obama's address to Congress. "Insane. Childish. Disaster. And those were some of the kinder comments ... Jindal's voice and earnest, awkward delivery have drawn comparisons to Kenneth Parcell, the geeky Southern page on the NBC comedy '30 Rock.' Indeed, a new Facebook group titled 'Bobby Jindal is Kenneth the Page' had already attracted more than 1,800 members Wednesday afternoon."

The New York Times adds that Jindal “has been a rising star in the Republican Party, but his stock took a hit as he was roundly panned for his televised response to President Obama’s first speech to Congress on Tuesday night.”

Don’t miss Norah O’Donnell’s look yesterday at Jindal’s speech.

The Democrats were the party of "No" for 8 years. Why the media keeps pushing this nonsense on the Republicans is a mystery.
We see what the party of "Yes" (The Dims) gets us. A $1.7 trillion dollar deficit for the year. I especially enjoy the millions be thrown at Iowa pig farmers to find out why their pigs smell.
What's important in politics is not what you know, the experiences you've had, or that you can take complex tasks to completion. What is important is that you can read a teleprompter and know when to pause for the applause lines your speech writers inserted into the speech.
You often think that the media can't anymore petty, any more vile, any more shallow. But then they surprise you, like with the Jindal flap.
People, it really *IS* ok to say no to something that is just wrong.  When is all this pork going to stop! 8900 earmarks is just blatantly wrong!!
Could anything be more disgusting than the CPAC cattle call?  Yeah the Blundering Herd is being corraled to pick another loser to get whipped in 2012 and they have nothing but clueless losers to choose from.  The Dopes of Nope have no good plans for the future of our country, they just live in the past because they can't think outside their little box of repudiated ideology.

Just Say Yes to Obama!
Republicans want small government?  But Texas Gov. Rick Perry wants federal troops to come help him root out Mexican criminal elements -- so federal intervention is sometimes needed, so then who will fund it?  And who gets to decide which states use the money "responsibly" and which states are getting "pork?"  If Americans do not have faith in the federal system, perhaps the UNITED States as a country is dead and each state should go it alone.  Think about the resources of your state, and think about the things you would have to negotiate for if they were not part of your economy, but a foreign one.  We all have to pay money to support things that do not benefit us individually and DIRECTLY, but in return there are benefits we need and get that others don't.  It's like insurance -- you pay in each month and some of that money goes to pay for expenses incurred by others, but if you're the one who needs expensive care, it's others who are helping you.

Jo, I'm not sure where you've been for the past 8 years, but you may want to remember who was the President that kept pushing tax cuts during wartime; gutted the FDA/EPA/CDC/FEMA, and various other agencies that are SUPPOSED to work for the health and safety of all Americans; and established the Big Brother era with FISA.  I only wish that Democrats had been strong enough to say "NO" to some of these abuses on the American people.

Mission Accomplished, indeed.

LORD LIMBAUGH HAS COMMANDED THAT ALL WHO CRITICIZE JINDAL'S SPEECH ARE HEREBY BANISHED FROM HIS KINGDOM!  SO LET IT BE WRITTEN, SO LET IT BE DONE!

The way Obama is going, spending the U.S. into oblivion, it won't be hard to find a Republican replacement for him in the next 4 years.
I didn't hear all the Republicans crowing over the hundreds of billions we flushed down the toilet in Iraq, or the millions and millions wasted on abstinence-only education; something everyone KNOWS doesn't work (Sarah Palin, I'm looking in your direction).
GOP Future ~ both past and present an oxymoron.
