First thoughts: Iraq is back

*** Iraq is back: The Iraq war -- once the dominant issue in American politics, and the issue that helped propel President Obama to win the Democratic nomination -- returns back to the spotlight today, when the president unveils his plan for troop withdrawal from the country. Almost two years to the day he announced his candidacy for president, Obama travels to Camp Lejeune, NC, where he will say the U.S. will withdraw nearly 100,000 combat troops from Iraq by August 31, 2010. But aides admit that would likely leave a force of as many as 50,000, including some combat troops, in Iraq for another 15 months beyond the August 2010 date. Interestingly, the Obama plan has been criticized somewhat by Democrats like Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, and praised by Republicans like John McCain. “The convergence of Mr. Obama and Mr. McCain on Iraq would have seemed highly improbable just a few months ago,” the New York Times reminds us. “Mr. McCain accused Mr. Obama of being naïve and opposed his withdrawal plans. At one point, Mr. McCain said Mr. Obama ‘would rather lose a war than lose a campaign.’”

Video: President Obama is expected to unveil his plan to remove most U.S. troops from Iraq by August 2010. NBC’s Chuck Todd reports.

*** A promise kept? So is Obama keeping his campaign promise on Iraq -- to remove all combat troops within 16 months? On the one hand, he certainly is setting a “date certain” for withdrawal, and 100,000 troops isn’t a small number. On the other hand, it’s 19 months (from the day he took office), not 16. And there will still be as many as 50,000 troops remaining in Iraq. But remember that he always said he’d consult with his military advisers to withdraw troops as safely as possible. “We must be as careful getting out of Iraq as we were careless getting in,” he continually said during the campaign. So is the war over? Did we "win" the war? If you don't think we won, then did we lose? If you can't say we won or lost, then what happened? This will be what historians debate for years. Obama today will not say "Mission Accomplished," nor will he flash a "V" for victory. But unlike in 2007, Obama will talk about successes in Iraq, in addition to failures there. One thing to keep in mind: If it wasn't for Obama's opposition to the Iraq war from the get-go, he would never be president today; he might not have even won the Democratic nomination -- or even run. And by the way, don't forget this: August 31, 2010 is just two months before the midterms. Just sayin’…

*** In a battleground state of mind: With Obama traveling to North Carolina today, we’ve got to ask: Is he only going to hold events in battleground states, especially ones that turned from red to blue in ’08? Already as president, he has visited -- in order -- Indiana, Florida, Virginia, Colorado, and Arizona (a state the Obama campaign would have targeted had McCain not been his opponent). Also, during the transition, Obama made a stop in Ohio. To be fair, he also visited his home state of Illinois earlier this month. But that’s it.

*** The end of the Reagan era? Transitioning back to domestic politics, it's possible we may someday say the Republican run on dominating American politics -- which began in 1980 -- ended just after the 2004 elections (sometime in August 2005, when a certain hurricane came ashore in Louisiana, or perhaps a few months earlier when congressional Republicans took up the Schiavo issue). If Obama has ushered in an era of Democratic dominance, then we shouldn't be surprised by today’s analyses about his budget, which all note how dramatically different it is from the Reagan-influenced budgets that even Bill Clinton continued during his eight years. Many see Obama’s budget -- rightly so -- as a dramatic break from the last 30 years of government budgets.

Video: Deal to save Citigroup announced. CNBC’s Melissa Lee reports.

*** Sim Citi: The Wall Street Journal reports that the Obama administration and troubled Citigroup have reached a deal whereby the government has taken a big stake in the banking corporation. The Treasury Department “has agreed to convert some of its current holdings of preferred Citigroup shares into common stock, a move that could better protect shareholders against future losses… The size of the government's new stake will hinge on how many preferred shares private investors agree to convert into common stock.” The Obama administration believes it got these concessions in the deal: 1) a replacement of a majority of Citi’s board; 2) the lowest conversion price, which was lower than other private investors converting their shares; 3) a dollar-for-dollar conversion with private stock, meaning that other investors also have to take a part in this deal; and 4) a requirement that Citi has to go through a stress test like other banks.

*** Rich vs. poor: After previously writing about the GOP’s new struggles in the Diploma Belt (the nation’s best-educated counties), National Journal’s Ron Brownstein now notes the different reactions the economic stimulus has received in poor and rich states. “No Republicans have been more vociferous in denouncing President Obama’s economic stimulus agenda than the GOP governors of South Carolina, Louisiana, and Mississippi, whose states respectively rank 41st, 49th, and dead last in median income,” he writes in the latest issue of National Journal. "But here in dynamic Silicon Valley, the plan is receiving a much more enthusiastic reception. That difference speaks volumes about the two parties’ shifting centers of gravity.”

*** CPAC, Day 2: On the second day of the Conservative Political Action Conference in DC, the featured speakers are Newt Gingrich (noon ET), Mitt Romney (4:35 pm) and Mark Sanford (7:30 pm). Sen. John Cornyn (at 8:00 am), Sen., Jim DeMint (8:30 am), and Rep. John Boehner (8:50 am) have already spoken this morning. And check out these panels today: “Bailing Out Big Business: Are We All Socialists Now?” “Will Congress Take Your Guns?” and “Will Obama’s Tax Policy Kill Entrepreneurship?”

*** Rush returns: Tomorrow, on CPAC’s final day, Rush Limbaugh gives the finale speech at the conference. And perhaps pegged to that, the liberal Americans United for Change and AFSCME have a new TV ad going up today (on national cable and in DC; read: a small buy) that criticizes GOP leaders for saying “no” to Obama’s stimulus and ties them to Rush Limbaugh. The ad’s narrator says, “Who are Republicans listening to?” Then you see a clip of Limbaugh saying, “I want [Obama] to fail.” The ad concludes, “Tell them America won’t take no for an answer.”

President Obama's first budget — with its eye-popping $1.75 trillion deficit, a health-care fund of more than $600 billion, a $150 billion energy package and proposals to tax wealthy Americans even beyond what he talked about during his campaign — underscores the breadth of his aspiration to reverse three decades of conservative governance and use his presidency to rapidly transform the country into a more socialistic type of big government.

The first official move of this country to socialism is now officially underway, led by President Obama and the Democrat controlled House and Senate. The motivation to strive to be the best has been dealt a major blow. We can now take our rightful place not as the leader in the world, but as an average by stander.

We should pray each day, that China and the other countries that are funding our debt do not decide to call our credit due. It will not be pretty when the phone calls start coming in from creditors wanting the US to pay up. Will we just let the phone ring or go into voicemail?

What fools this administration must really think American taxpayers are if they think all of us will not be impacted in a dramatic negative way by what they have done the week of Feb 23-27 2009.

We will all be taxed, one way or another to pay for this monster spending plan. If you work, have a job, or spend your own money, not government money, you will be paying more.

Obama just doesn’t seem to get what concerns tax payers.
Have you Blamed Your Bush Today?

So Rush Limbaugh would like to know what it is that women really want in a man - on the radio. Well, I'll give it a shot, since it's pretty simple. We like men on the radio who don't dictate to so-called other men on how to behave. It's a real turn off for women. Figuratively and literally. So-called men like Rush are everywhere on the radio. But that’s okay.

We women will stick with the tv guys, specifically MSNBC - Keith Olbermann, John Dean, Chris Matthews, David Schuster, Lawrence O'Donnell, Jonathan Turley, Chuck Todd, Mark Murray, Howard Fineman, Eugene Robinson, Jonathan Alter, Richard Wolff, Chris Hayes, EJ Dionne. The A-Team.

They all love sports, they have wonderful senses of humor, they're smart. But most important - they are able to, on their own, get this - think for themselves. Something the radio guys just can't seem to muster. (You know, the talking points stuff.) Besides, the radio guys are angry all of the time. ALL THE TIME. No thank you. We get it that times are tough. Especially for hard working Americans and our military. But this doesn’t mean we have to stop attempting to take joy in our lives whenever we can. Women love to laugh and be optimistic. After all, we’re Americans. We can meet the challenges facing us head on. Men like Rush are real downers. As is the whole Republican Party. But then, they caused the catastrophe we’ facing.

In a nutshell - women are just not that into dictatorships. It’s so 1930’s. So in the meantime we’ll just be thankful for the music and the songs they’re singing on the radio. This will hold us over just fine until the real journalists show up in the evening.

We have a new President and a new Administration. And we’re thrilled. It’s a new beginning for all of us.
"Life in the Peace Corps will not be easy. There will be no salary and allowances will be at a level sufficient only to maintain health and meet basic needs. Men and women will be expected to work and live alongside the nationals of the country in which they are stationed—doing the same work, eating the same food, talking the same language.

But if the life will not be easy, it will be rich and satisfying. For every young American who participates in the Peace Corps—who works in a foreign land—will know that he or she is sharing in the great common task of bringing to man that decent way of life which is the foundation of freedom and a condition of peace." President John Kennedy

“If you bungle raising your children, I don't think whatever else you do matters very much.” Jacqueline Kennedy
________________
Pam, It is such a joy for me to see you back here. I did see your post to me but I didn't want to answer you until I found just the right quote from President Kennedy regarding the Peace Corp. I hope you keep me posted on how Rana is doing. I really would like to know.

And one more thing.  I know how very proud you are of both your daughters. Just don't forget to take a moment now and then to be very proud of yourself as well.
There is no winning or losing this war, and his promise to be as careful getting out as careless we were getting in is in tact.

The 16 months was a goal.  He came dang close...and while he would be leaving 50,000 combat ready troops in iraq, they would not be in active combat.  This is a big difference from what we see today.
3 months makes no real difference. 50,000 is alot but I trust that Obama knows what he is doing. Pelosi and the rest of the Dems need to get a grip. Obama is doig everything he said he was going to do and that should be what matters most.

Thank God we have a pres who is smart and is doing what he said he was going to do.

I do think GM needs to fold along with a few banks.
The ONLY good thing about Obama's Agenda is that he does not heed the advice of "Make No Waves."
The more aggressively he moves ahead with his agenda --- the more splintered his support will become.

The more fragmented his support becomes --- the easier it will be to smash it.

And when the Republicans get back into power --- they will undo all the leftist, socialist nonsense that Obama creates.  That's politics and that's reality.  In the USA, Extremism doesn't last!
What we need to do is to super-impose the stock market direction as Obama talks. The more Obama talks, the more he cuts down Americans, trashs the economy, the more he scares people with unfounded "facts" that only he seems to know about the economy, the more the market tanks.

Mr. Hope has turned into the Grim Reaper.
So I called (202) 224-3121, the number in the AFCME ad...and get some switchboard.  What gives?
>> You Dems must be onto something (pot?)...where have you been the last 30 days?  Any SANE person is scared to death seeing clearly where Obama is headed.  Hey..we will be there before the 100 days is up..all down hill.  What will you have to say then?

If I had to guess, I’d say I’ll still be spewing the same delusional liberal nonsense I always do.  As for where I’ve been, Wonderland rings a bell.  As for what I’m on, pot isn’t really strong enough to produce MY liberal hallucinations.  I prefer kool-aid, myself.  Grape is best -- the color of royalty.

Was that the right answer?  We liberals live to serve, you know.

It seems fitting that Lush Limburger gets to put the final nail in the Irrelevant Elephants as he opens his ignorant mouth and spews nothing but hateful garbage around.  Yep the cattle call for the Blundering Herd of imbeciles just wouldn't be complete without Viagra Boy whining.

Isn't that funny how the repugnant one governors from such poorly performing states economically are the idiots who whine the most about the help they're getting from Obama.  They would rather screw their own citizens over than be thankful for the much needed help.  What a bunch of Economic Girlie Men!

Just Say No to Mount Lushmore!
Re: battleground state of mind - - Obama is still busy campaigning.  More worried about himself and his career while our country is flushed down the pipes.  When is he going to find time to pay some respect to our troops overseas?  Maybe his priority is to help Michelle pick out another dress so he can wine-and-dine her in Chicago again.
the good ol' "we pander to your fears, prejudices and ignorance" gop, bless their little hearts, is a wonder with words.

wealth redistribution and it's close cousin, class warfare - tax cuts to the wealthy, federal monies from donor states to debtor states, protection for wall street investors, those irresponsible home buyers (who probably aren't even americans.)

high speed rail (have you ever been on the 15 on any given weekend between vegas and la,) boehner's home district in ohio, katrina and let's not forget vittner.

whew! it's enough to make your head spin if one isn't grounded.

When it comes to Iraq, I don't really thinks it matters if President Obama kept his campaign promise or not. What matters is that we do what is best for U.S. Soldiers in harms way.

The only other thing I will say is that for months we've been told by the media that there was no way that President Obama was going to actually keep his campaign promises.

Well, based on the budget outline submitted it would appear that you were wrong. Again.

And to supporters of President Obama, I have a request -  let's be as vocal in our SUPPORT of the President when he does something right as we are in our CRITICISM of the President when he doesn't meet our expectations.

I've heard more carping about troop levels in Iraq than I've heard CHEERS about a President of the United States puting over 600 BILLION DOLLARS in the budget to provide affordable healthcare for the American people.

THIS IS A VERY BIG DEAL!

President Obama is boldly moving forward on an aggresive agenda to bring relief to the American people: extended and increased unemployment benefits, expanded S-CHIP, subisized COBRA costs to help the "least of these" get through our current economic Armageddon.

I want to be first in line to say to him WELL DONE!

The American people appreciate OUR NEEDS being front and center for change. It's been A LONG TIME since the AMERICAN PRESIDENT focused on the AMERICAN PEOPLE.

What a novel concept.

Yes, the Promise is kept. 16 months: 19 months is moving in the right direction.  The promise that you should be focusing on is that President Obama said he would get us out of the war in a responsible manner. And he is. To focus on the 16 months vs 19 months is simply looking for trouble and this a great example of how the Washington pundits see the world differently that those of us in the heartland.

I enjoy watching and hearing about the CPAC nonsense with the conservatives talking to...themselves. Makes me feel comfortable that the right wing nuts will be out of power for a long time.  I think Chris Matthews is right, the GOP will stay to the right. That gives the left and middle to the Dems.
Nationalizing the banks, is happening, it's just not called that.  When 40 percent of a bank is owned by the government and their board of directors changes, it is owned by the government. All the banks will fail the stress test...so all the banks will be regulated and owned by the government. Thank the conservatives for not monitoring and regulating the banking industry.
CPAC, Day 2 - You gotta love the Repubs who schedule a meeting to prove they are a party of no new ideas. They are so quick to rally around a stupid theme and repeat it until they believe it is the truth. So many comes to mind, but he most recent one that they hope will gain traction is the notion that President Obama is not really a citizen, thereby disqualifying him as POTUS! Are they naturally brain dead or are they sniffing glue at these meetings?
After 30 years of conservative Republican domination it's clear that their ideas have been dismal failures.  It's time to move on and look for things that work instead of litmus tests to a failed ideology.  It's no coincidence that these ideas remain strongest in states that have failed most spectacularly.  Wealthier states, conversely, see the benefits of investing in our society and our citizens.
can we refrain from the typical namecalling today please?  the vitriolic phrases do nothing constructive and only inflame our differences, when we should be focused on expanding our similarities...

my thought for the day:  i've heard one of my senators repeat debunked lies about the stimulus and other packages and i think it is time that the MSM stopped giving liars airtime.  the more people hear something, the more they believe it is true, and it should be the media's responsibility to only provide facts to their readers/viewers/listeners, not provide a medium for liars to take the stage.

its obvious that Prothero and his ilk won't stop lying on their shows, but i expect more from news organizations.  if the media won't give us honesty, i say we start boycotting their programming/text.
It is so good to see the end of the Raygunz Revolution with it's Tinkle Down VooDoo economics that have wrecked our country's economy as well as teh whole world's.  Heckuva Job Ronnie!  I am so glad that Raygunz has been repudiated and found great poetic justice that the economy blew up in Idiot Boy Bush's face.  Time to put back the top tax brackets Raygunz cut out and make the stinking rich and greedy pay back the billions they stole with their tax cut welfare.

Name the National Debt after Reagan, Bush and Bush!
*** The end of the Reagan era?

Liberals have been hoping for that for decades. They just hate Reagan, a man that stood for true American values and a man that started the longest economic expansion in the country's history. The Reagan era isn't dead Liberals. It's just taking a very brief break. Jimmy Carter II, aka Barack Hussein Obama, will show Americans why socialism is not good for the country and the world. That seems to be needed to be pointed out every few decades, then American's say, "Oh yeah, that's why socialism doesn't work!"
Ah yes. Another day of the new Obamanation administration, another drop in the stock market - already 130 down.  This is the change we voted for?  More bank bailouts?  More like a change for the worse.
I think President Obama is doing his best to keep all of his campaign promises but I recognize that some will call him on this one.  I believe its importance has waned in light of the economic crisis.
Re: battleground states.  Come on, FR--he's only been President for less than 6 weeks--if he had visited a lot more places you'd be asking how hard is he working.  Also-it seems to me that the places he has visited have all been striking examples of the urgency of the topics he has been addressing--in addition to being battleground states.  That said, I am of the belief that the team never takes their eye off of 2012--and I'm glad of that.
...'Did we "win" the war?...'

NO !!
We destroyed Iraq's infrastructure and killed hundreds of thousands in an illegal and unjust war
There was no justification for the Iraq War

The Bush Administration 'manufactured consent' for war by systematically lying to the American people

Thanks to the info-tainment industry and many cowardly and servile Democrats (Dianne Feinstein, John Edwards, Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton...) Bush was able to trick us into war.

Let;s not forget the American people....
They were amazinl\gly suseptible to war

Iraq Lost, Bush lost, America lost

These governors preside over states that are economic basket cases. And we're supposed to believe their dire warnings about President Obama's economic policies as if these clowns are some kind of experts on the economy?
Too bad California isn't a battleground state because it seems we'll be waiting for a visit from our Hero Barack Hussein Obama.  We have battleground state envy here in CA and hopefully Obama will come visit us who have been such ardent supporters.

Thanks First Read for yet another fun and informative week.  Thanks to all at Fiurst Read who bring us this wonderful site to come and read and yack politics.  Thanks to all the wonderful Obama supporters for their continued support against the unpatrictic rabble who try to tear our Hero down with their malicious lies.  Oh and thanks to the repugnant ones who come here and read and post so that you help out our wonderful Liberal Blog with your clicks!

David Shuster is quickly becoming my favorite MSNBC tv personality.  He has really broken out his Liberal Freak Flag and is now proudly touting our cause.  I love the way he takes the lies of the repugnant ones to task.

Just Say Yes to David Shuster!

Excitement from the CPAC !!!

From HuffPost:

'...Michele Bachmann Tells Michael Steele: "You Be Da Man!"

After a long day at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington, Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele gave a speech asserting that the party is "alive and well."

Although he emphasized that the conservative movement must become a revolution and transform America, he conceded that the party had made mistakes: "We know the past, we know we did wrong. My bad. But we go forward in appreciation of the values that brought us to this point."

According to CNN, Steele was then praised by Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann.

As Steele concluded his remarks, Minnesota Rep. Michelle Bachmann -- the event's moderator -- told Steele he was "da man."

"Michael Steele! You be da man! You be da man," she said....'

Right on
Conservative humor from WashingtonMonthly:

'...NYUK, NYUK, NUKE.... What is it about conservatives and their attitudes about attacks on U.S. cities?

A few years ago, TV preacher Pat Robertson said he welcomed a nuclear attack on the State Department, telling a national television audience, "Maybe we need a very small nuke thrown off on Foggy Bottom to shake things up." A couple of years later, Bill O'Reilly welcomed a terrorist attack on San Francisco. The Fox News personality told al Qaeda, "You want to blow up the Coit Tower? Go ahead."

And yesterday, the Bush administration's former U.N. ambassador, John Bolton, generated wild applause joking about a nuclear attack on Chicago.

"The fact is on foreign policy I don't think President Obama thinks it's a priority," Bolton said. "He said during the campaign he thought Iran was a 'tiny' threat. Tiny, tiny depending on how many nuclear weapons they are ultimately able to deliver on target. It's, uh, it's tiny compared to the Soviet Union, but is the loss of one American city -- pick one at random, Chicago -- is that a tiny threat?"

Jonathan Stein noted, "Bolton wasn't the only one who thought this was funny. The room erupted in laughter and applause. Was this conservative catharsis, with rightwingers delightfully imagining the destruction of a city that represents Obama? Or perhaps they were venting vengeance with their laughter."

Either way, it's evidence of a twisted ideology. I find it hard to believe Bolton sincerely wants to see Chicago hit by a nuclear strike, but if the right would stop welcoming cataclysmic attacks on Americans, I'd feel a little better about their seemingly sick psyches. (I also shudder to think what the reaction would be if, say, a prominent official from a Democratic administration appeared at the Take Back America conference and joked about a nuclear attack on an American city.)

Post Script: By the way, Bolton took Obama's "tiny" quote out of context. He's not only joking about domestic terrorism and the death of millions; he's lying about it, too....'

Define "we", because there are a lot "we's" out here that just are not impressed with Mr. Hopeless.

> It’s a new beginning for all of us.

The end has a beginning too.

Ron Paul is also a featured speaker.  He's presenting at 4pm.

Of course Chuck Todd doesn't mention that...  There's a surprise.

Bob Smith,

Since you appear to be so concerned about the state of the Dow, I encourage you to (1) buy up as much stock as you can to encourage the market to go up, and (2) to start buying as much goods and services as you can in the marketplace.

Absent this, your complaining is a waste of our time.
Name the National Debt after Reagan, Bush and Bush!
Eric, Salinas, CA

Ohhh, but we have a new champion! A man that won the title by knock out in the very first round. Mr. Spend It Like You Own It - Barack Obama.

Congratulations Barack, for doing more deficit spending in a month then anyone ever has!
Some simple questions for Pete, Salinas CA:

The cost of living has been rising at an astronical rate for the past 8 years while wages paid have remained staganant.

When gas goes from $2 a gallon to $5 a gallon, is that not a tax on the American people?

When the cost of healtcare rises 20% a year, is that not a tax on the American people?

When pharmaceutical companies charge outrageous prices for their drugs to pay for their unrelenting ad campaigns, is that not a tax on the American people?

The only difference is, when we pay our taxes to OUR GOVERNMENT, we actually get something in return, instead of watching our money disappear into the black hole of corporate greed and corruption.

The American people have caught on to the scam now Pete, taxes are not the enemy. Unregulated capitalism is.
What Obama is doing is something the repubs would never do,telling the people what the real budget is.Not hiding the cost of the war, hiding what Gitmo costs, hiding what we spend on tapping our phones, hiding what was spent to stealing our e=mails, what they did was spend at Will. The war alone is the main reason for the sunken economy. If they had just done something with our money, except fill the pockets of the rich and left the rest of us holding there garbage, and we still get to pay them for the rest of there lives for the great shape they have left us in.Obama will have to draw every once of knowledge from every expert, just to clean up this Mess.Is there anyone that knows why The senators from the Poorest states would be the loudest.I mean we are talking about a part of our country that is still fighting the civil war, where people are not treated the same, whites are treated way better, and they like it that way, been that way since pack in the slavery days, and that suits them. While the rest of the country has moved on to a better understanding of each other these folks are not, there education system are ass backwards, they still are living in the good ol days,The 50's.  How many trucks does it take to haul all the bull$hIt from the Come boss convention?
We women will stick with the tv guys, specifically MSNBC - Keith Olbermann, John Dean, Chris Matthews, David Schuster, Lawrence O'Donnell, Jonathan Turley, Chuck Todd, Mark Murray, Howard Fineman, Eugene Robinson, Jonathan Alter, Richard Wolff, Chris Hayes, EJ Dionne. The A-Team.

Tee Janson, SC sez: The Reagan era isn't dead Liberals. It's just taking a very brief break. That seems to be needed to be pointed out every few decades, then American's say, "Oh yeah, that's why socialism doesn't work!"

The current economic mess and huge national debt prove that Ronnie Raygun's socialism for the wealthy and capitalism for everyone else doesn't work. And please stop lying about President Obama being a socialist. He's not. He's trying to save capitalism from its own excesses that the Repubs have allowed them to pursue without restraint.
Barack Obama, doubling the National Debt in less then 4 years.

But it's "For the children.".

True enough, that's who is going to be paying for it.
Ah yes. Another day of the new Obamanation administration, another drop in the stock market - already 130 down.  This is the change we voted for?  More bank bailouts?  More like a change for the worse.

Bob Smith, Obamanation, USSA (Sent Friday, February 27, 2009 9:47 AM)
****************************************************
your tying together the president's agenda and the stock market failing is a false analogy.  the two are not connected anymore than Bush's actions on 9/11 were connected to the stock market falling then.

The real reason that the stock market continues to fall is because the wealthy are not investing.  The middle class and poor either can't afford to invest, or all their investments have tanked already, leaving them nothing to push into the market.  So continue to blame the president when the ones with the ability to put some confidence into our market won't do it because hoarding their wealth is more important to them right now...

and Bob, can you give me the correct definition of Socialism?  i figure since you live in the USSA you should be able to...

the truth is, we are not moving toward a Socialist government, just looking to maintain the basic needs of the population in a time that they are unable to take care of themselves.

that isn't Socialism, its called doing the right thing. in a modern society, improving the health, education, and well being of its populous should be the focus of government.
Isn't that funny how the repugnant one governors from such poorly performing states economically are the idiots who whine the most about the help they're getting from Obama
--------------------------------------------------
How about those 2 Democrat governors not taking all of the stimulus money?  Funny how all those bitching about GOP governors seems to conveniently forget that some Democrats are rejecting it too.
So the "Gross Odd People" (GOP) are meeting at "CRAP-PAC." They are full of crap, and they act just like "economic" wolves meeting in a pack. "Jerk" Jindal stated the GOP position in very disturbing/distorted ways. It is clear that the GOP is a bankrupt political party. Time to move forward America! The GOP sure has not!

February 25, 2009 — National housing price declines and foreclosures have not been as severe as some analyses have indicated, and they are not as important as financial manipulations in bringing on the global recession, according to a new analysis of foreclosures in 50 states, 35 metropolitan areas and 236 counties by University of Virginia professor William Lucy and graduate student Jeff Herlitz.

Their analysis shows that most foreclosures have been concentrated in California, Florida, Nevada, Arizona and a modest number of metropolitan counties in other states. In fact, they claim that "66 percent of potential housing value losses in 2008 and subsequent years may be in California, with another 21 percent in Florida, Nevada and Arizona, for a total of 87 percent of national declines."
"Is he only going to hold events in battleground states, especially ones that turned from red to blue in ’08?"

That's called ensuring a permanent Democratic majority.  Goodbye Reagan Era!  Goodbye Regressivism!  Goodbye Kleptocracy!  You won't be missed!
God Help Us - Obama Won't (Sent Friday, February 27, 2009 9:43 AM)

-------------------------------------------

Screw you!  Obama took time during the campaign to travel to Iraq and everybody over in the GOP scoffed at it and laughed it down as a publicity stunt.  I suppose if he did the same thing now you'd be bitching at him for wasting time visiting Iraq while the economy's in the hopper, right?
"my thought for the day:  i've heard one of my senators repeat debunked lies about the stimulus and other packages and i think it is time that the MSM stopped giving liars airtime.  the more people hear something, the more they believe it is true, and it should be the media's responsibility to only provide facts to their readers/viewers/listeners, not provide a medium for liars to take the stage.  -Tzalaran "

AMEN!

This should be the thought for EVERY DAY!

Stop SPREADING PROVEN LIES corporate media!

Why do we have to tell you this? Is this not common sense?

Just another sign that the "press" is not worthy of the trust so many give them.
To Obama is splintering his support base, who says:

"The more fragmented his support becomes --- the easier it will be to smash it."
------------------------------------------------------
Here we have the classic Rovian-style projection:  attribute to your opponent that which you are already doing.  (Karl, is it really you?)

If any group is splintering, it is the GOP.  Fiscals vs. fundies is going to result in a huge fight leading into 2010, and then into 2012.  There is no real leader right now: even Not-Joe the Not-Plumber says so.  Steele is flip-flopping on whether to purge the moderates from the GOP.  Jindal just imploded, and even Rush can't save him.  Sarah has vowed to "be herself" from  now on, and not listen to the handlers- can't wait for that.

What's next?  The Democrats as the Party of No?  Ha-ha.
"Oh yeah, that's why socialism doesn't work!"

guess its a good thing that the president's plan isn't socialist then.  people should stop using words they don't understand...

You're only hurting your name brand by continuing to lie, calling the stimulus Socialism and saying it gives money to ACORN and other "liberal" entities.

your rhetoric wont' get you far when the actions of the administration are contrary to what you say they are...
Obama speaks and the stock market tanks?  Maybe the market is down because of the report that during the fourth quarter of last year, just three months, the economy dropped by over 6%.  Maybe the market is a bit jittery over the huge losses being reported across the entire economic spectrum.  Or maybe it's because unemployment is fast approaching 10% and in absolute numbers, more Americans are unemployed this morning than have ever been reported in the history of the USA!

By the way, the market had a nice rally the other day on news that the price of crude oil was going up.  What's with that?  Market traders have no concern for anything but their own portfolios and where they have placed their bets.  Higher oil prices are not good for us, but the speculators love them.

The NYSE is an indicator of nothing but good bets and bad bets and has no more importance to me than if someone wins or loses at a roulette table in Vegas.
Ah yes. Another day of the new Obamanation administration, another drop in the stock market - already 130 down.  This is the change we voted for?  More bank bailouts?  More like a change for the worse.
Bob Smith, Obamanation, USSA

Obama is on a mission, but in doing so he has a tin-ear to all going on around him. People (and yes it's people, not big financial institutions), see what Obama brings to the table, and from an econmic point of view, they don't like it. Those people are voting with their feet, and are bailing out of the market.

Now, most Obamanuts go "So what, what do we care, we're not even in the market." Well, yes you are, because for every company whose stock prices tanks, there are that many more layoffs from those companies, and that many more people to compete for the limited welfare dollars that many liberals are depend on. "But", the liberals say, "We'll just raise taxes on the rich to pay for our welfare". Well, that doesn't work liberals. The "rich" aren't "rich" anymore, and even if you took all the "riches" money, it wouldn't be enough to support your lazy out of work butts.
Meanwhile, the campaign is getting intense in NY-20's special election, where a new poll has the Republican leading by 12%: http://campaigndiaries.com/2009/02/26/tedisco-stimulus/
Tzalaran - guess its a good thing that the president's plan isn't socialist then.  people should stop using words they don't understand...

Oh, I very much know what the word means, and it is what Obama is implementing. We don't need pious people like you to talk down to people that know what Obama is up to. It's you that seems to have the blinders on.

And I didn't say anything about ACORN. You did. You're making assumptions you cannot support.

Did you read the news today, slappy?

"GDP shrank at fastest pace in 27 years.  Revised figures show GDP sank at a staggering 6.2 percent pace at the end of 2008."

But I guess that's President Obama's fault even though he hadn't taken office yet, right?
