Here's one set of numbers we're releasing before the entire NBC/WSJ poll comes out at 6:30 pm ET: By a 48-20 percent margin, Americans believe the Democratic Party would do a better job of getting the U.S. out of recession than the Republican Party.

When this same question was asked back in 1990, the public was essentially split. In an October 1990 poll, 36 percent said Republicans would do a better job, versus 31 percent who picked the Democrats. And in December of that year, an equal number -- 33 percent -- sided with the Democrats and Republicans.

The public has had a chance to see what an unfettered Republican party does to the economy. For 6 years the Republicans controlled congress and the White House. Then they got a tiny Senate lead that wasn't enough to stand up to Republicans with Bush and his veto behind them. The combination of trickle down voodoo featuring huge tax breaks for the richest fraction at the top, an expensive off the books war of choice and incompetent political hack foxes in the hen houses running all government agencies combined to bring us to the brink of both a national and worldwide depression. No wonder the public wants to give the other party a try. All the GOP offers is rinse repeat or obstruction.

So....32 percent have no opinion? It is obvious that doing something is better than just voting "NO". I'm curious how the country perceives Congressional GOP; Congressional Dems; John Boehner; Eric Cantor; Nancy Pelosi; Harry Reid; and of course Rush Limbaugh. I know, he is a private citizen, but he is the de facto head of the republican party.
I about a month I would like to see numbers regarding how Americans view President Obama's foreign policy, his approach to getting out out of the war, and how the DOJ should proceed with prosecuting Bush and Cheney. Personally, on the last issue, the DOJ should what is right, not what is politically right. There is a difference you know.

When your strategy is to do more of what got us here it's no wonder the public would choose the party who is at least doing something no metter if they agree with what is being done or not. Limbaugh and the Insular party needs to come up with a new strategy other than doing nothing and tax cuts. If I remember correctly, that starategy got us here.

People are so stupid. It took 30 years for the American public to understand what Reagna's own economic guru figured out, before he was even out of office. It couldn't work because Reagan wasn't willing to tackle any of the same programs that Republicans have been admonishing us about ever since. The man who came up with supply side dumb down economics idea, new that they were robbing from the poor and that sooner or later someone would have to pay for it. He gave Reagan an easy list of government programs with check boxes at the side of each one, stating that something had to be cut or the equation just wouldn't work. Guess how many Reagan checked off?, your right, zero. Even Reagan knew that this would come crashing down at some point. So, did this wonderful, caring man, tell the truth to the Ammerican people? No! But his wiz kid did and nobody wanted to listen. Stupid. Of course Americans trust the democrats to fix this. Who else is left? But Americans must get this, it starts at home. We read our ARM loan and backed out of it after the interest rates started climbing and paid a price for doing do so. So we are paying a higher rate than those, who may have their loans fixed by the government, but are at least making the payments. It certainly wasn't because the credit union we belong to, was trying to give us accurate information, because they weren't. People you have to quit being so stupid.

as time goes on and the policies take hold, the economy will get better, hopefully. to say that something isn't working in less than a 18 month to 24 month period is not being realistic.

it is hoping for failure. no genuine and honest person could expect this economy to be turned around before the end of 2010, and that is signs that the economy is turning around not completely healed from the damage of the bush administration.

Democrats have always been better on the economy because democrats believe that Government has a role to play. The republican philosophy of small government, tax cuts, deregulation, and let the market do the rest means that when there are problems such as we have now, their ideology prevents them from being effective. The GOP cannot solve economic issues because it involves making necessary decisions which are contradictive to their core views. That's why we hear so much squawking from republicans now about excessive spending that won't stimulate the economy, too big a budget, no involvement in energy technology and the list goes on.

This is off topic but Monday night Rachel Maddow mentioned an issue with Judd Gregg that involved his brother that would have been a problem for the Sec of Commerce job. I haven't heard anything else. Maybe I missed it earlier but Judd keeps popping up blasting the budget which may be hot air hoping his problems will disappear in the atmosphere. FR, how about digging up some details or maybe someone who comments heard more and can answer.
