First thoughts: Seizing the bully pulpit

From Chuck Todd, Mark Murray, and Domenico Montanaro
*** Reclaiming the bully pulpit: So what do you do when the American public is outraged beyond belief at the AIG bonuses? When congressional Republicans and now even some Democrats (see: Dodd, Christopher) are blaming your administration? You get out of Washington and use a power that these people don’t have: the bully pulpit. That’s what President Obama did yesterday at his town hall in Orange County, CA -- an event that was planned before the news about the AIG bonuses first surfaced. At the town hall, Obama accepted responsibility over the AIG mess (“Some say it’s the Democrats’ fault, the Republicans’ fault. Listen, I’ll take responsibility. I’m the president”). He presented himself as the anti-Washington figure (“It’s always good to get out of Washington for a little while”). And he struck a populist tone (describing a culture “where people made enormous sums for taking irresponsible risks that have now put the whole economy at risk"). Earlier in the day, Obama seemed to accidentally refer to “voters.” It appeared the president had slipped into candidate mode. But he clearly was “fired up and ready to go,” and perhaps showed that he misses the good old days of the campaign trail.

Video: Obama speaks on AIG bonuses.

*** California, Day Two: The president today will most likely pick up where he left off yesterday when he tours an electric vehicle plant in Pomona, CA, making remarks there at 1:45 pm ET; holds a town hall at 4:10 pm in Los Angeles, where he’ll be joined by California. Gov. (and stimulus supporter) Arnold Schwarzenegger (R); and then tapes his appearance on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” at 7:20 pm. Critics, of course, are wondering whether it’s appropriate for the president to be filling out NCAA tournament brackets and appearing on Leno, especially during these tough economic times. But after following the presidential election for the past two years, who didn’t think Obama would be having a little fun with the NCAA tournament?

*** Saving Private Geithner: Right before he departed to California yesterday, Obama also used the bully pulpit to perform his own rescue of sorts -- this one saving his Treasury secretary. “Tim Geithner didn’t draft these contracts with AIG,” Obama said.

“There has never been a secretary of the Treasury, except maybe Alexander Hamilton right after the Revolutionary War, who’s had to deal with the multiplicity of issues that Secretary Geithner is having to deal with, all at the same time.” The president clearly bought Geithner some time from what was turning into a feeding frenzy for his head. What is Plan B, anyway? Whom does the congressional lynch mob that’s currently eyeing Geithner want instead, if Geithner is forced to step down? Geithner's toxic asset plan, which could come out as early as today or could be unveiled next week, involves some combination of government financing for hedge funds and other folks who have the cash to buy up these questionable assets. It could mean some Wall Street titans could make money, thanks to the government. It's not a popular plan, but given the need for the government to find a private sector solution, what choice does he have?

*** Saving yourself: While Obama yesterday was accepting responsibility for the AIG bonuses and trying to save his Treasury secretary, Chris Dodd was trying to save … himself.

That’s what happened when he said that it was the Treasury Department that had requested the loophole for executive bonuses that were contained in contracts before Feb. 2009. "Sen. Dodd's original executive compensation amendment adopted by the Senate did not include an exemption for existing contracts that provided for these types of bonuses,” his office said last night. “Because of negotiations with the Treasury Department and the bill conferees, several modifications were made, including adding the exemption, to ensure that some bonus restrictions would be included in the final stimulus bill.” Treasury sources dispute Dodd’s account. Despite pointing the finger at the Obama administration, it seems as if Dodd's political problems -- he’s up for re-election in 2010 and seems vulnerable -- are going from bad to worse.

*** Czar wars: Mindful that this bonus issue may have fallen through the regulatory cracks at both Treasury and the Fed, the Obama administration is asking Congress to create a new regulatory agency. Just as the FDIC has the power to shut down banks without a bankruptcy court, this new agency could take the lead on complicated cases like AIG, allowing the agency head to act as a bailout czar. Bottom line: If Congress gives Obama this new agency, it means the fogginess of who is in charge of AIG (Treasury or the Fed) gets cleared up. And that person would be the one held accountable for the NEXT problem with AIG. Speaking of problems, these bonus stories out of Merrill Lynch are only adding fuel to the populist fire, and could make Obama and Geithner's job of getting more congressionally-approved bailout money that much harder. In fact, it could mean that Ben Bernanke’s Fed will have to step in and start handing out more cash. What Bernanke did yesterday seemed to single-handedly turn the market around for the day. By the way, is this the week that the Fed chairman began to show signs of having the credibility to be his own oracle of sorts -- a la Greenspan in the '90s and Volcker of the '80s?

*** Just askin’: While we love the outrage soundbites for television, do the congressional theatrics regarding the AIG bonuses really serve the institution well? Yesterday's AIG show was a substantive hearing at many points. But because there was grandstanding on both sides, it did seem to trivialize the confrontation and probably make lots of folks watching wondering if this group of people really is the best and brightest to be running the country. Individually, members of Congress usually do come across as very capable people. But put three or more members together in a hearing -- especially with a TV camera on -- and they seem to, well, morph into something else.

*** Nationalize this: We’re always leery of reading too much into a special election. But the contest at the end of this month to fill Kirsten Gillibrand’s congressional seat has become something to watch -- not only because it’s the first race of 2009, but also because it’s being fought on national issues. The big one is Obama’s stimulus, which Democratic candidate Scott Murphy supports and Republican Jim Tedisco opposes (although he didn’t take a position until recently). Also, Tedisco now argues that Murphy’s support for the stimulus means that he supports the AIG bonuses, since it included language protecting bonuses that had been agreed to before this past February; Tedisco even has a new TV ad hitting Murphy on the subject. And Tedisco is blasting Murphy’s ties to Wall Street and high finance (which certainly aren’t popular right now), and Murphy is countering with Tedisco’s longtime service in the State Assembly. One thing is pretty clear: While Tedisco once had a sizable lead in polls, the race has now narrowed. Given that -- and given the candidates are dueling over the stimulus -- does Obama decide to swoop into the race and stump for Murphy?

Not only are most modern day era Repukes wrong, they are loud and obnoxious too!  The rants and ravings of most of these folks the last couple of days here in FR are deplorable.  I am sure the Repukes get most of their thoughts from Boss Limbaugh et al, but do they have to turn around and spew it here in FR?  And don’t think Chuck, Mark and Domenico are angels either.  They have kicked up dust just to stir things up, and have missed the target on other topics as well.  Even the media and FR is resisting change as much as the Got Only Pomposity party.

I will state what most know and are unwilling to say about the ‘elephant’ in the room… the more time passes, the more I am convinced that Wing Nuts, Neo-Cons, Ditto Heads just lack any intellectual skills.  If more of you employed the demeanor and civility of George Will, the greater your chances will become of increased representation in Congress and possibly the White House.  Instead, you have hitched your wagon to ‘Boner’, Can’t-or, Bachman, Izza (who personally bankrolled the recall efforts of Gov. Davis in California), Delay, Vitter and your just defeated team of “That One” and Simpleton Sarah.

If you think you are so right, why haven’t you proposed one single plan to fix the economy?  Tax cuts and spending cuts for the wealthy are not plans.  They are repudiated ideas.
Now even the Democrats in congress are turning on Obama. It was just so rich to see Dodd scramble around on all the cable networks trying to explain his lies for letting AIG give out the bonuses. And then the cherry on the top was when he blamed the Obama administration! Oh, this going so well for Obama!
Obama talked about AIG and said "The Buck Stops Here". Apparently that is true. AIG contributed over $100,000 to Obama last year, and he's keeping it. So, in fact, the Buck does stop with him.
When I was a kid my folks had an old black and white Zenith T.V. and even then I would watch the news.  I would watch an older journalist named Eric Severied give a nightly 3 minute commentary abou the events shaping the world.

I knew he was smart because he could make sense out of what was going on and explain it so an eight year old could understand it.  Today we need someone like Eric who coould see the big picture and give us a perspective.  Instead we have instant analysis, debating political hack yelling at each other (on Shuster and Hardball), talking heads with big mouths and little maturity.

If Eric were alive he might talk about the cultural shift in this country from small government to large government. The racial shift to hire an AA American as POTUS. The shift from a wall street business mentality to a government regulated way of managing Capitalism.  The shift from employer based health care to a healthcare system that includes everyone.

Today the pundits see a lot of trees but do not even know they are standing in a forest.  The country is changing and the Rush Limbaugh conservatives don't like it and there is nothing they can do about it.  Few are able to see and are able to articulate the big picture.  I miss Eric Severied...and Tim Russert.
AIG was saved for Goldman Sachs interest.

Lehman was allowed to fail as they were Goldman Sachs competitor.

Mr. Bush's  Treasury Secretary was Mr. Paulson from Goldman Sachs.

Mr. Obama's Treasury Secretary Mr. Geithner is also from Goldman Sachs.

Mr. Paulson and Mr. Geithner worked together on TARP.

Goldman Sachs contributed to both Mr. Obama and Mr.
McCain's campaign.

AIG distributed funds to Goldman Sachs.

Goldman Sachs is offering "loans" to over 1,000 of its employees.
And the AIG mess is just the start. So Mr. Obama, just what is happening with all those billions and trillions we sent to the banks and AIG? You said you'd keep track of that money. Rather then talk about being transparent, lets hear from you about where all that money we gave the banks and AIG went. Take your time. have a fireside chat with your guy Turbo Tax Tim. And make sure your staff loads the right speech in your teleprompter. We're listening . . . .
FR,

WHY did you refer to President Obama's town hall meeting as "going to the bully pulpit" when you, yourselves, state that this meeting was arranged PRIOR to the this AIG bonus becoming public? The whole first paragraph of this makes me sick. Why is it that you feel the need to scrutinize every single move this president makes when everyone let George Bush and Dick Cheney do whatever the hell they wanted for 8 years? You are acting like a co-worker that likes to stir the pot. Shame on you.
So, why is Obama skipping the GridIron dinner in favor of appearing on the Tonight Show?

It couldn't possibly be because all those pesky reporters will be at one venue and not the other, could it?  Or could it be that at the GridIron, he'd have to make unscripted comments, like 'pass the salt, please'; not to mention having to answer uncomfortable questions about the colassol screw-up of the stimulus funds.

By the way,I am befuddled by the lack of comment from the Obama worshippers regarding the Dodd amendment, Dodd's doublespeak on how the amendment got re-written to allow the bonuses, (he first said it happened in the House conference committee, then amended that to say that his staff added the language at the uring of the Treasury department), and the hundreds of thousands of dollars Dodd and Obama got from AIG as campaign contributions.  The silence is deafening.  Do you just ignore inconvenient facts?
Is anybody not convinced that Barney Frank isn't just in Washington for entertainment purposes? You could put Chuckles the Clown in his place, and Chuckles would have more Gravitas then Barney. Barney's behavior at yesterdays hearings with AIG was just an embarrassment to the country.
Obama accepts responsibility as a president with the buck stops here unlike the shrub who never did. It just shows you who shows class and who's a meglomania.
Outrage phony?  American people = No
               Congressmen     = Yes
            Republican Congressmen = Absurdly phony;
With a "Gotcha" twist that they think they can milk until the next primary.
GOP ARE SO EXCITED I DON'T KNOW WHY BECAUSE WITH ALL THE PROBLEMS THAT THE COUNTRY HAS NOBODY WANTS THESE SORE LORES IN POWER THEY CAN GO ON MORNING JOE AND HIGH FIVE WHILE JOE AND MILK RANT FOR NOT LIKE WHAT THEY SAY MEANS A HELL OF A LOT IN OUR LIVES . THESE CHAT SHOWS ON CABLE ARE A JOKE I WILL STAY WITH CSPAN THEY TALK TOO MUCH AND WHO WANTS TO HEAR WHAT THEY THINK.
Barack Obama is so awesome at using the bully pulpit to connect with the people.  Obama can work a crowd like no repugnant one ever can.  Obama's town hall last night in Costa Mesa, in Orange County a bastion of repugnant ones, should send chills up the spines of all repugnant one politicians as Obama can explain the spin of the whiners as nothing but lies and coverup of their own crimes against we the people.

As always Congress holds hearings but never does anything to really solve the problem or get the lawbreakers behind bars.  Time to end these worthless congressional grandstandings and start seeing some judicial aaction against these robber barons who have profitted mightily while ripping the rest of us off.

In Obama We Trust!

I agree. It’s a pretty sad spectacle up there on the Hill whenever there are hearings.

The less we see these people, the better off we all are.
FR: " While Obama yesterday was accepting responsibility for the AIG bonuses "

"Accepting responsibility"? Just how did Obama accpet responsibility? On Monday Obama ranted about the bonus money AIG paid out, but that money was paid out because his administration had Dodd insert language in the very bill Obama signed that explicitly allowed those bonuses to be paid. So how is Obama taking responsibility? Is he apologizing to AIG for his misplaced outrade against them? Is he apologizing to the American people for paying off AIG execs, probably because he was the #2 receiver of AIG lobby money (Question: Guess who was #1? Answer: Chris Dodd). Is Obama making Geithner resign? Just how is Obama "taking of responsibility"?
I think we can expect more bad news from wall street.  In the days to come the pundits (Chris and David) will go crazy over Bank of America/Merrill Lynch bonuses.  In a bigger context these are the growing pains in the shift from a deregulated banking industry to a government regulated form of Capitalism.  Again, there will be a huge disconnect between the media and mainstreet.  The media will try to evaluate the political impact on President Obama, but main street (you saw it last night in Orange County California) will cheer this President on to change business as usual.

BTW...Thank you MSNBC for showing that speech.
I'm glad at how Obama is defending Geithner because it was the bushwhacker and his criminal cronies Paulson and Bernanke who defended executive compensation and bonuses 6 months ago when the first TARP money was handed out to AIG.  Where were the repugnant ones 6 months ago?  They were whining about not messing with executive compensation and bonuses, as was McNasty.  Time for the media to go back and find those tapes of 6 months ago showing the repugnant ones defending their overly vaunted free market, or do we have to wait for Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert to show us the truth?

The repugnant ones are getting really obnoxious nowadays with the likes of Glenn Henpecked of Fox crying on tv like it's the end of the world.  Where was this limpwristed crybaby the past 8 years except rooting for the bushwhacker as he destroyed our country and gave away huge tax breaks to the rich and greedy moochers of our hard work.

In Obama We Trust!
In Fox We Bust!
What about the four execs at Fannie and Freddie getting $600K in bonus money? What about Obama's adviser and ex-Fannie CEO Franklin Raines getting $90 million is bonuses for driving Fannie Mae into the ground. Is Obama going to make a fuss about those bonuses too?
Isn't socialism fun? This is how the Russians got such a good sense of humor.
I'm very pleased to hear the President take responsibility for things that occur on his watch. That rarely happened during the last administration. That's leadership up close and personal. AIG's Bonus-Gate is a prime example of corporate greed run amuck and the Pres didn't run, didn't hide or shirk his responsibilities to fix the problem. I'm a die-hard Dem, but the fish in Chris Dodd's boat is beginning to smell a bit.

BTW, I don't think he misspsoke when he called the people "voters". That's what we are because that is our greatest power as constituents. If we don't like the current batch of career politicians, then they've got to go!
Accepting responsibility?  Obama's mantra is 'I inherited this mess, but I'm responsible' or 'I take full responsibility, but I'm not really responsible for it.'  And can someone please tell him the election is over?  He seems to be spending a lot of time retreating to a place that no longer exists-the campaign trail.
On Hannity last night he showed a tape of Pelosi speaking at an illegal immigration rally, which conflicts with Obama's views.

She is #3 in power and speaking with a strong anti-American tone. Typical of Pelosi I think. It  was a strong reminder of who and what we have in office running the country.
Chuck WA - Not only are most modern day era Repukes wrong, they are loud and obnoxious too!  The rants and ravings of most of these folks the last couple of days here in FR are deplorable.

Dodd is a liar, Geithner is a crook, and Obama uses phony outrage to get his way. If you disagree, then please discuss why you don't think so.
Tedisco is just another lying repugnant one who will lie cheat and steal his way into office if the voters are dumb enough to allow that to happen.  I'm hoping the voters are smarter than that in NY and will send Tedisco the message to go buzz off.

Why can't we just nationalize AIG and throw out all of the upper management trash that has screwed us over for so long?  Let's not forget that Liddy is a bushbaby who should be replaced with an Obama choice.  The AIG problem of bonuses are the fault of the bushwhacker who defended their outrageous compensation as the workings of the free market, yeah where ripoff artists are free to rip us off.

It is so funny to watch the repugnant ones whine about executive compensation and overly large bonuses when they've been defending them for decades.  We must never forget that they are the root of all free market evils and that the repugnant ones are the ones to hold responsible for the outrageous AIG bonuses!

In Obama We Trust!
In repugnant ones We are Busted!

If you think you are so right, why haven’t you proposed one single plan to fix the economy?  Tax cuts and spending cuts for the wealthy are not plans.  They are repudiated ideas.

Chuck, WA

Seeing Congress is in the mood of micro-targeting tax increases (AIG anyone?), I think we should tax anyone named "Chuck" at the 100% rate.
(“Some say it’s the Democrats’ fault, the Republicans’ fault. Listen, I’ll take responsibility. I’m the president”). He presented himself as the anti-Washington figure (“It’s always good to get out of Washington for a little while”). And he struck a populist tone (describing a culture “where people made enormous sums for taking irresponsible risks that have now put the whole economy at risk"
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
With the gluttony plus predatory fraud that has brought the whole of the world's economy to the cliff of collapse everyday haters that sell themselves to the Republican party to e.g. Joe the dumber plumber, Rick Santelli, Glenn Beck, Michael Savage, stupid Hannity, (who always needs validation from his guest because they need to tell him if he’s right because he’s so dumb)and Laura Ingrams do what republicans do.

Republicans do not intend to allow the new government to succeed; they not paying attention to the polls. recent Pew survey found some slippage in Obama's support, it also registered only 28 percent approval for the job being done by GOP congressional leaders, the lowest in nearly 14 years. Ironic!
The talking points got their e-mail from the big blimp and their cocked and ready to fire. I guess the blimp dropped teleprompter from today’s agenda.
When did Paulson know and how much did he know?
1st of all i'd like to ask Chucky T. if he's gonna spew Rick santelli's talking points again on TV today? Do you really think we give a Rat's A$$ about what Rick santelli or any  Idiot from any socalled Financial Network have to say. Chuck i's also like to ask you, are you into stoking the Flames of the Ingoramece's(GOP) more than trying to do your job? It sure seem's that way !

These Ignoramace's,along with their Incompetents that come on here to spew their hate for America will All Burn in Hell ! Lies, Lies, Lies is what they havta offer to the 23%, who still wanna be led around by the Nose, because their incapable of making a rational decision without the direction of the Neocon's.

Last week i said that Megan Mccain had started a War inside the GOP & sure enough, Laura Ingram proved my point.Laura could'nt stand the Fact, that a moderate young republican was on a moderate TV show offering up her take on what it's gonna take for the GOP to put the Dagger into the heart of the neocon's. Laura in her incidenary way of talking called Megan a Fat A$$. Megan in turn goes on the Veiw & tell's laura to Kiss her Big fat A$$. WTG Megan ! This GOP war is just getting started folk's, sit back & watch their continued demize.

As i figured he would, President Obama stepped forward & took the Blame for this AIG mess since it happened while he was Alive ! One thing i learned early in life, is that you can't argue with Stupid Idiot's (GOP). As a good friend of mine told me, the GOP can see thru a keyhole with both Eyes . I like to put it this way, " They (GOP) have built submarines with screendoor's for far to long" The bubbles of the sunken sub's started showing up in 2006, continued bubbling in 2008 & the Bubble's will stop in 2010, as the GOP will no longer have a Credible voice in American Politic's.

O Happy Day !
You righties should be careful on how you talk about the executive bonuses.  Your lord and master, Rush Limbaugh, actually SUPPORTS them.  You don't want to risk his wrath, do you?

Honestly, I really don't get the conservative positioning on this.  On the one hand, they believe that executives SHOULD receive bonus compensation and some have come out supporting the AIG bonuses, yet these same conservatives BLAME Obama for letting them happen.  They want to take back the money, but then call Obama "socialist" for wanting to levy target taxes on bonus money.  They don't want regulation or nationalization of banks, but BLAME Obama for lack of oversight of these banks.

It must give folks whiplash to have to explain so many contradictory positions.  Can you people PLEASE pick a position and stick to it.
By the way,I am befuddled by the lack of comment from the Obama worshippers regarding the Dodd amendment, Dodd's doublespeak on how the amendment got re-written to allow the bonuses
--------------------------------------------------
no bo, no joe, Obamabots can only swoon when it comes to their American Idol President, they see no flaws. Besides, isn't the Dodd Amendment all Bush's fault anyway?
President Obama was not responsible for these acts of deception by AIG. The very "slick" lawyers, and "crooked" accountants are very responsible for this economic mess. The misinformation sent out by the very rich Capitalists is just amazing to observe. President Obama, like many other Presidents before hime fell into this trap. Now President Obama needs to get out of their economic/political trap quickly. These Capitalists want the American people to blame President Obama, and the Treasury Department. They are building up the perfect "pass the buck" strategy. The very rich accountants love to cook the books, manipulate the language, hide assets, and steal any unused funds as possible. The super rich CEO's are now playing the blame game however, in the end they are still holding all the economic cards. Congress, and the President can be mad all they want. The very rich Capitalists are, laughing all the way back to their banker friends on Wall Street. Government representives will always be, and have been foolish pawns used by the Super Capitalists to get their way. The only way to get at the many protective financial barriers that the super rich CEO's have set for the last 250 years is simple. Call in the IRS, and audit the financial crap out of them! Now this is the type of language they understand America!
Obie - Stop playing this insideous political game with the American public. Stop trying to take the spotlight off Geithner and other creeps by turning to other non-related topics. The American public is too smart for that.

Did you see Eric Kantor on Morning Joe today? OMG isn't he scary, he reminds me of Lurch on the Addams Family TV show. Here is my impression of the leaders of the Republican{NO}Party. Mitch McConnell, he looks like a figure in a wax museum the only part of his face that moves is his mouth. John Boehner, what's with the perpetual tan he looks jaundiced to me.Michelle Bachman, put her in a strait jacket she is crazy. John McCain, angry, miserable old man still pissed off that he lost the election. Last but not least, Sarah Palin, if she is the new face of the Republican Party, the Democrats have nothing to fear. She is going to tell us which publications she reads as soon as she figures what a publication means. Anyone want to add to the list of leaders?
Firs Read: what do you mean bully pulpit? the bullies are the one's just as you who slant the real isssues.
Sorry GOPhers...so much of the current diaster is the making of your party and your president....Obama isn't perfect but at least he is trying unlike your party of obstructionists and crybabies...come back when your party has real ideas and real solutions...the rightwing neonut christian crapola no longer does it for a vast majority of Americans
W.
Ms. Palin.

Thanks.

Breaking News! Breaking news! Developing story! Lets go now to our panel of experts. Three people yacking all at once. I love Nancy Grace, but every night its New developments and breaking news. Problem is its the same old news as two weeks ago. One story. 15 commercials, one story!

Spare me...how on earth can Tedisco claim to run in opposition to the Stimulus when up until two days ago he didn't have a damn opinion about it?  So now he gets to attempt to "Monday Morning Quarterback" the issue and voters are supposed to buy in?

The NRCC ads on the radio against Murphy are shameful and disgusting...I feel like I need to take a shower after hearing them...accusing him of a "shameful record of attacking the military" for a single editorial he co-authored in 1989 while attending Harvard and accusing him of failing to pay corporate taxes that were actually the responsibility of the company that acquired a company he owned.

Tedisco has been stuck in Albany for over 20 years and can anyone find a meaningful piece of legislation that he has authored in that time?
Obama's town hall meeting was in California, a state that went heavily for him in the eleciton. So there goes Chuck Todds conspiracy theory that Obama only visits battle ground states important to his re-election in 2012.

But one thing this trip had in common with his previous town halls was that he chose a county that voted heavily AGAINST him in 2008, leaving himself open to hostile questions from an unscreened audience. (This time it was Orange County, CA, one of the most conservative places in California). That shows a kind of courage that G. W. Bush never had, with his pre-screened audiences and ejection of people for innocuous protests like wearing "end the war" tee shirts. While Chuck Todd apparently thinks this is too trivial to comment on, seems to have missed that, it's a refreshing change from the past 8 years to lots of people.

And BTW: President Obama can't use a teleprompter when he's fielding audience questions, yet he can speak to the point with well-constructed and often humorous responses. So much for the baloney about how he can only speak when there's a teleprompter around.
I think we can expect more bad news from wall street.  In the days to come the pundits (Chris and David) will go crazy over Bank of America/Merrill Lynch bonuses. - Ron Indiana

Isn't this fun? All the phony outrage coming out of Washington over a few hundred of millions of dollars, while our government is spending billions and trillions on who knows what. The Fed just "created" another trillion dollars yesterday. Do you think that will strenghten or weaken the dollar on the foreign exchanges? Do you think that is inflationary or not inflationary? Do you think that affects people's lives more directly then an AIG exec getting a bonus?
And yet, you hear nothing.

Time for some tea.
Obama just can't take the heat of actually SOLVING anything.  So it's "good to get away from Washington." All he's good at is campaigning and giving speeches.
The GOP is so LOST right ow
Bush scewed us all BUT , Geithner is a disaster. He must go.

Maybe what you need to get straight is which funds were misused when.  These AIG bonus funds came out of the September 2008 bailout.  Who was in charge?  Who vowed Oversight -- Hank Paulson? Where are his records?  Where are the first half of the TARP funds -- the $350 billion?  This was decided in 2008.

In your view, Obama is  responsible for that?

Come on.

Too many "moon" handles for ya? Wake up, Daphne Moon is not a real person but a character on the TV show Frasier, yet YOU thanked her. You've been had.
Obama accepts responsibility as a president with the buck stops here unlike the shrub who never did. It just shows you who shows class and who's a meglomania.

Then why does Obama keep pointing fingers and blaming others?
It is so funny watching media personalities lambast the Obama Adminsitration for not having all the positions within the Treasury filled, while simultaneously forming a lynch mob around the Treasury Department and demanding Secretary Geithner's head on a silver platter.

First, the media says that anyone who isn't perfect should not work in Treasury. Now, it suddenly doesn't matter.

Why would anyone want to work in the Treasury Department?

Why is the solution to every problem to fire Geithner? Once he's fired, then what?

Does the media have a coherent position, or does it just choose the opposite of whatever the Obama Administration is doing at the time?
