A battleground state of mind?

From NBC's Athena Jones and Mark Murray
The White House just announced that President Obama will deliver commencement addresses at Arizona State (on May 13), Notre Dame (May 17), and the U.S. Naval Academy (May 22).

What do those first two addresses have in common? They're in battleground states -- Arizona and Indiana. While Obama didn't truly contest Arizona last year (because it's McCain home state), you can be certain he'll target it in 2012.

Must FR make everything a campaign story for 2012?  Instead of reading into this so much, why not look at the top majors at the schools and see if they're doing great work.  I'm surprised you didn't say he's speaking at ND because he's trying to rally Catholic support.
Could somebody please tell him that the campaign is over?

Has he seen Rasmussen?  At the rate he's losing support, he couldn't be elected dogcatcher if the entire electorate was CATS.

Ahhh give it a rest - in case you didn't know - they happen to be states in our union.

Any take on that?

Thank you and GOD BLESS AMERICA
Yes, let's give it a rest, not everything is a campaign!! or not every word or sound bite has to be taken apart and examined.
Loved Obama on Leno, love the garden idea and like seeing a human being in the presidential office -- it's time the press follows suit -- you people really need to change the way you cover him.
I hope the people at Notre Dame boo the hell out of this irresponsible, irrational and irritating-to- look-at Socialist, whose only desire is to bankrupt America.
The mere thought of 7 more years of this unorganized, bad case of Obama Wonka nightmare, is so freakin scary and insane that I need a break after reading that comment!

Back to the ball games!
The Constitution of the United States of America was shredded by FDR, not George Bush. Throw the unwashed masses their $13 a week as a “stimulus rebate” while Sandy Weil (Citibank), Bernard Madoff, Alan Schwartz (Bear Stearns), Richard Fuld (Lehman Bros), Hank Greenberg (AIG), Barney Frank (D- Fanny/Freddie), Chris Dodd (D- Countrywide Mortgage) waltz off with billions.

Where are your antibusiness rants now leftist Dems?

Check Obama’s buddy Chicago Mayor Richard Daley and his connection to Robert Sorich. Tell me about rigged elections, the Dem’s hold a patent on that one!
Arizona is NOT a battleground state!  It is one of 50 US States that have Americans in need of mortgage relief, credit relief and assurances from their country that we are all in this together and will help each other out.   In case any of you haven't noticed, Obama is the first president who is actually taking the case to the people as a sitting president, not a candidate, and asking us to chime in with our thoughts, ideas, problems, etc.  I, for one, appreciate his boldness when it comes to 'telling it like it is' and not white-washing the picture to make it rosy.  Honesty always pays off and in this case, it gives all us Americans a true picture of just how bad WE allowed things to get before we took any action.  Shame on us, not President Obama.  As much as he has on his plate right now, we all need to pitch in and do our part  - this country belongs to ALL of us, and if we don't collectively put it back together, then we can collectively watch it fall apart.  Let's get to work!
One wonders why John McCain is not giving the address at Arizona State?
One wonders why John McCain is not giving the address at Arizona State?
Enough with making note every time Obama goes to a 2008 battleground state.  He's allowed in those states too, you know.  His predecessor could have gone to states he lost too, but chose to only attend events in friendly areas before hand-picked audiences.  How political is that?
How lucky they are to have such an eloquent speaker at their graduation. How kind of President Obama to speak to those graduates. He doesn't have to do any of that. It probably isn't coincidence that those two colleges are in battleground states but suppose they weren't it would still be a good thing. I love having a President that can speak in complete and coherent sentences.
These folks are just filling up TV and media space with these comments.

President Obama is truly working hard and doing good work. We are lucky to have him in our midst at this time.

Also the only thing Barack Obama cares about is what is good for the American People. If he does not come through for us he is prepared to lose. That is more than I can say for all the Republicans and media folks who are afraid of losing their jobs and ratings.

Prez Obama is tough and he knows we have his back!
As a resident of AZ who's closely associated with ASU, I can assure you that President Obama's commitment to education reflects ASU's progressive policies for access to higher ed for every student who wants to go to college.

FirstRead can make this about the 2012 campaign if they want but maybe they could just give it a rest -- at least until the mid-term elections are over.

btw, living in purple AZ isn't always easy when you have senators like Kyl and McCain. I can only hope they don't get re-elected.  They're a total embarrassment.
I think we are beating this issue up a bit too much;
I am more concerned about him speaking at Armed Forces Academies than anything else. This could be a solid opportunity to do serious bridgeing of any possible gaps as Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces.
Nojonobonj,
He was invited to speak.  Most presidents are.  Rassmussen was so wrong during the campaign, you might want to tell them it's over.  Polls didn't matter for Bush but they matter now.  How quaint.
He is doing the best he can with the mess he has to clean up.  McCain would have given up by now.
1)  Campaigns are NEVER over.    Whether intended or not,  EVERY  action by a politician has political implications.
2)  These schools are fortunate to land so eloquent and important a speaker.
Once again the University of Notre Dame proves it's
status as a former Catholic instituion. For the record, Mr. Obama supports abortion on demand, embryonic stem cell research, and public funding of condoms. However it has been a long, long, long time since trivia such as the position of the Catholic Church has influenced the actions of Notre Dame University.
WE DON'T WANT THE 'AFFIRMATIVE ACTION ELECTED' PRESIDENT IN ARIZONA .... AND THE U.S.NAVAL ACADEMY CERTAINLY DOESN'T WANT HIM
