First thoughts: The Afghan-Pak strategy

*** The Afghan-Pak strategy: At 9:25 am ET, President Obama will announce that he’s sending an additional 4,000 military trainers and advisers to Afghanistan, on top of the 17,000 he’s already deployed there. As NBC’s Jim Miklaszewski reported last night, the president's new strategy will focus on accelerating the training and doubling the size of Afghan security forces to take over the fighting. But this isn’t just about Afghanistan; today’s policies will also be about neighboring Pakistan. As Bloomberg News notes, “Obama also would support legislation to triple economic aid to Pakistan to about $1.5 billion a year in exchange for that country cracking down on Taliban and terrorists hiding out along border… The goal is to weaken and ultimately destroy al-Qaeda’s havens and sanctuaries in Pakistan and prevent the terrorist group from returning across the border to Afghanistan, the officials said.” Some might see today’s announcement as a ramping of activity in Afghanistan, but is sending 4,000 trainers/advisers an acknowledgement of the opposite? Everything about this announcement today, in fact, has the feel of trying to minimize the military aspect of the conflict. To put it another way, this is a dramatic shift away from the philosophy some in the Bush administration pushed -- which was democracy for Afghanistan.

Video: NBC's David Gregory joins Morning Joe to discuss the usuage of bailout funds and the Republican Party's alternative budget proposal.

*** Dude, where’s my budget? Let’s be honest: Yesterday’s House Republican budget rollout was a P.R. disaster for the GOP. “Here it is, Mr. President” was the title of the GOP Leader blog touting that they had answered Obama’s dare to produce a budget. The problem -- their budget rollout didn’t contain any hard budget numbers or deficit projections. They say those hard numbers will come out next week. But now we learn that Reps. Eric Cantor and Paul Ryan objected to unveiling yesterday’s “blueprint,” but were overruled by Reps. John Boehner and Mike Pence. But bigger than any internal disagreements or any criticism about a lack of details is the fact that yesterday’s GOP non-announcement moved the attention away from the Obama-vs.-congressional Democrat storyline to the GOP’s lack of a budget. In fact, after yesterday, the White House and congressional Democrats can agree on one thing: The GOP -- at least until next week -- is the “Party of No.” What's more, it puts more pressure on Ryan to truly put out a comprehensive budget alternative; Also, this episode could end up creating a rift in the GOP over how to combat the Obama White House. After all, Senate Republicans wanted nothing to do with an alternative, and now Mitch McConnell, et al are either laughing at their House GOP colleagues, furious at them, or both.

*** And where’s the money? We’ve suggested that the economic downturn could affect political fundraising, and today’s Washington Post has numbers to back up that assumption. “In January and February 2005, the six national party committees collected a total of almost $49 million in individual contributions, according to an analysis of FEC records,” the Post writes. “In the first two months of this year, those same committees collected $30.7 million, a drop of nearly 40 percent.”

*** The magic circle: Speaking of political contributions, one of us on TODAY followed up on the recent reporting that several members of Congress who have been critical of the federal government’s bailout of U.S. companies have received campaign contributions from these very firms just in the last six weeks, in the midst of the congressional venom directed toward the bailouts. Campaign-finance-reform advocate Fred Wertheimer says the government's been bailing out banks and other major "too-big-to-fail" firms -- as these same companies continue to use their PACs to make contributions. “It all adds up to kind of a magic circle involving the government, TARP recipients, members of Congress, and campaign contributions.”  The reality, of course, is that these contributions, individually, aren't a lot of money. But many members of Congress (including Speaker Pelosi and Financial Services Chair Barney Frank) have decided against taking any of the money. The optics of this for both the banks and for the members of Congress is bad, and only feeds the credibility problems both entities have with the American public.

*** More tough news for Gillibrand? New York liberals have criticized Sen. Kristen Gillibrand over her past views on guns and immigration. And now they might have another beef  -- her past attorney work for Phillip Morris, according to the New York Times. “Now in the Senate seat formerly held by Hillary Rodham Clinton, Ms. Gillibrand plays down her work as a lawyer representing Philip Morris, saying she was a junior associate with little control over the cases she was handed and limited involvement in defending the tobacco maker. But a review of thousands of documents and interviews with dozens of lawyers and industry experts indicate that Ms. Gillibrand was involved in some of the most sensitive matters related to the defense of the tobacco giant as it confronted pivotal legal battles beginning in the mid-1990s.”

*** Obama makes an appearance in NY-20 -- sort of: Turning to Gillibrand’s old congressional seat, the DNC has announced that it’s airing a new TV ad that notes President Obama’s endorsement of Scott Murphy (D) in the NY-20 special election. “In the worst recession in a generation,” the ad goes, “upstate New Yorkers deserve someone with the right skills to represent them in Washington… In Congress, he'll work with President Obama to spur investment and create jobs right here at home.” As Roll Call puts it, the DNC’s ad is the “strongest attempt yet to link Obama with Murphy.”

*** Man of Steele? As we’ve previously noted, Tuesday’s special election in NY-20 contains plenty of good storylines. The race has turned into a battle over Obama’s stimulus (Murphy supports it, while GOPer Jim Tedisco opposes it). It has become a barometer of the Republican Party’s health in the post-Bush era (a loss would be devastating for the Republicans in this GOP-leaning district). And here’s a third storyline: The contest has become a test for embattled RNC Chairman Michael Steele, given that he has made it a personal crusade of sorts. The RNC says it has transferred $200,000 to help Tedisco, and Steele has campaigned for him. What’s more, Steele had said that a win in the race “will send a powerful signal to the rest of the country and especially those folks in the elite media who think they know so much more than the rest of the us.” But what happens if Republicans lose this toss-up contest? As one GOP strategist told First Read, “Part of being an effective party leader is winning races we can win or should win. And this is a race we very much should win.” (Click here for more.)

Sure glad to see our troops coming home.

Obama is a liar!
I was surprised there were so many acronyms for the GOP; nearly three times as many as DEM (Google it yourself if you don’t believe me).  Here are some of my favorites: GOP equals…

Grounding Obama’s Presidency
Grossly Overestimated Popularity
Gathering Of Powerseekers
Greedy Opportunistic Profiteers
Government Obstructionist Party
Gorillas Organizing Pottery
Greed Over Patriotism
Gripe Often Persistently
Gutter Obscene Politics

I wasn’t surprised at their pitiful budget proposal.  Maybe Boner should stop tanning and Can’ter shouldn’t go to Brittany Spears concerts.  I don’t know which level is higher right now with them; my anger level with them, my embarrassment level with them being elected officials, or their continued use of scare tactics as a basis of party politics.  Pat in Boston, Eric, Sierra, Nashville Fan, Clara in KC and many others all have brilliantly spoken of their other disdainful policies over the last several months.  I also have railed against them for many months for not recognizing they have been repudiated.  What is it they don’t get?  They used scare tactics of terrorism to win in 2002 and 2004, and tried but failed in 2006.  Now they are attempting the same tactic with their gloom and doom predictions of the economy in hopes of getting back power.  Have they no shame?
So, since there were no specific numbers or details in the "budget" presented by the GOP yesterday, just specifics, is it okay to ask, how is the GOP going to cut taxes, cut spending, control the debt and fix the economy?

...or does it simply involve John Boehner donning tights and a cape?
On Keith’s Show:
They have a new nickname for Bill O’Reilly: billonia.
And for his program this evening, it will be - The GOP budget - A party with no cents?

Lol!!! Why can't we all be this clever?
____________________________
This is the time of year when I always read a baseball book about a player who played in the days before the 1930’s. I'm reading a book now by Lawrence Ritter, who in the 1960’s traveled 75,000 miles searching for the heroes of a bygone era. These were players who played baseball back in the days of Ty Cobb, Honus Wagner, Shoeless Joe Jackson, Christy Mathewson, Home Run Baker, Fred Merkle, etc. Some of these men were born in the 1870's/80’s. My goodness they tell the most wonderful stories about life in America and baseball at the turn of the 20th century. All the stories are in their own words, practically unchanged from what they relayed on the tape recorder for the author. Each chapter is about a different ballplayer. I'm halfway through it now and I have to say, it is without a doubt the best baseball book ever written. And what I’m finding is that as interesting as their recollections are about their baseball careers and the players they got to know back then, what is equally compelling is the way they describe what their lives were like in the 1880’s and 1890’s as kids before they made it to the big leagues. It’s really priceless.

btw, these men were not as uneducated as we always assumed. Far from it. They were very smart ball players. Very tough minded. They didn’t make a lot of money, they didn’t have any of the luxuries today’s ballplayers have. Some said that the conditions for them were better when they were still in the minors. Shoot, they had to put their uniforms on in their hotel rooms before a game. No clubhouse. They had really not much of anything. But they loved to play. And play they did. Some of the greatest ballplayers who ever played the game, came from this era.

Picking up a book and traveling back in time is one of the best recipes for what ails us in these trying times. This book is perfect if this is what you like to do.

Cheers.
Gun rights. It's not just a good idea, it's the law.
Re Meet the Press: Please no more John McCain.
But many members of Congress (including Speaker Pelosi and Financial Services Chair Barney Frank) have decided against taking any of the money.

**********

Barney is more concerned about circle-jerks then he is about magic-circles. Or, maybe they are the same.
It is good to see a light being shone on the conflict of interest that is created by the same Congressional representatives tasked with oversight of the banks also receiving campaign contributions from banks.

While there may be no quid pro quo (although in my gut I believe there is), considering the monumental FAILURE that we have just witnessed in the banking sector, it would seem that common sense would dictate that this practice has to stop.

P.S. While it is fun to make fun of the "Republican budget", or as Keith Olbermann called it, a "Fudge It" (lol), I think it is important for the Republican party to outline IN NUMBERS their vision of America's financial future. That way the American people can compare apples to apples, instead of just hearing alot of meaningless griping that isn't helping anyone.

Our problems are very real - so the solutions should be as well.

P.S.S. To Chuck Todd: You had a rough week, but as always I am still rooting for you. As you find your voice in your new role, don't overthink things and just be yourself.

We're not looking for you to take it easy on the President, we just want you to bring the Chuck we've come to love, the insightful guy whose common touch can make boring details spring to life. Just do you - nobody does that better! :)
Dude where's my budget? When Obama and his little klan of parasites get done, America will ask, "Dude where's my money?". And that includes you too liberals. If you ever manage to find a job, Barack and his leeches will tax the living daylights out of your pay check.
The party of NO sure showed it's true color yesterday,Bohner look like he just saw the ghost of Reagen, while he was out front holding up a note book which I bet had no words in it .It had 50 year old spew and not a new idea in sight. Now thats something we can believe in.What as mind blowing is that they see this as something new.The photo opp party is just lost,so deep in the woods, and no one to lead them out.
You gotta wonder just what Boehner and Pence were thinking!  Clearly, their "Budget" is not a budget in spite of Boehner's declaration that it is.

The Republicans are starting to look like total fools.
Boehner said, "Here it is, Mr. President." Too bad the 19 page compilation of grips and complaints turned out to be another steaming pile of horse hocky from the Great Obstructionist Party. The Repubs look more out of touch and foolish than ever before and they don't help their cause with these antics.

The President has reached across the aisle to the Repubs, but now I think he knows they don't have a clue about how to govern. He should just move on without them if they don't want to get on board the Obama Train.

Personally, I'm glad the GOP has demonstrated on national TV how incompetent they are. They have yelled and screamed at the President's policies and budget but they can't offer one, not one relevant idea of their own! Then they have the gall to openly admit they want the President to fail, even if it means our country fails. Unbelievable!

The GOP is a treasonous bunch of whiney-tails that need to be booted out so that those that can govern can do so unobstructed.
..... indicate that Ms. Gillibrand was involved in some of the most sensitive matters related to the defense of the tobacco giant as it confronted pivotal legal battles beginning in the mid-1990s.

Sure. Defending legal companies that are doing legal things just doesn't wash with the "New York liberals" (whoever they are). I imagine most of those libs somke anyway. And probably a lot more then just tobacco.
                FOLLOW YOUR LEADER

Boehner and Canter are proud that 100% of the House Republicans voted "No".  McConnell spends his time criticizing and condeming.  Boehner presents a budget without numbers!! So we have a regional cabal of "No", no new ideas, a budget that gives tax breaks to the wealthy, no solutions to America's problems.

On the othr hand, President Obama successfully completed an on-line town hall meeting, wrote an Op-Ed to the citizens of the world, seeks solutions to economic problems, re-establishes consititutional law, and promotes communication with world leaders.

Then I look at those who write on FR and indeed I see bloggers following their leaders. It is easy to tell who are closed minded, looking backward, being critical, supporting "No" votes, promoting fear, supporting a pre-emptive war, wanting our President and America to fail, and having no ideas.

And yep, the Dem bloggers are following their leaders also.  People supporting economic solutions, caring aboout health care, looking forward, promoting education and energy, wanting America to succeed.

This is not a battle between conservatives and progressives.  It is a battle between those who simply criticize, have no ideas to offer, look backwards; and those who can think to find solutions to our country's problems.

A review of today's posts will bear this observation as true.
Did Obama's ad to the New Yorkers also inform them that he thinks they make too much money? They make more than Arkansas wages, so it's "not fair."

If I was a New Yorker, I would be very wary of the statement that Murphy would be "working with Obama."  I think that's a code phrase for "take more of your hard-earned money."
The three ring circus of the Dopes of Nope sure were hilarious yesterday as they unveiled their non-budget.  As someone once said they were making a mountain out of a molehill, but then that's all the repugnant ones ever offer us.  It was so funny to watch the press give Crybaby Boehner a hard time for causing so much interest in what was a total disappointment.  The Keystone Kops of politics still can't shoot straight and are the laughing stock of Mainstream America!

If Idiot Boy Steele wants Tedisco to win he should keep his ignorant mouth shut and not set foot in NY-20.  We Democrats now have the Irrelevant Elephants caught in a Steele trap of their own making.  The masterplan of this idiot is going to give us Democrats even more political power next year because the people are going to be thanking Obama and the Democrats for saving our economy that the repugnant ones wrecked.

Come on voters of NY-20 make sure to give Obama yet another supporter in the House to help Nancy cram good legislation down the throats of the repugnant ones.  I find it laughable that now the repugnant ones think divided government is good when 6 of the past 8 years they were bragging about generational control of all 3 branches of government.

In Obama We Trust!
Here it is Mr. President!
A big blue piece of Crap!
No numbers!
No ideas!
No Solutions!
Here is the Republican Solution,
Squat and Crap!
Must have had a roundtable with Cantor, Boehner,McConnell,Limabaugh, Hannity, O'reilly and then had Coulter put it to pen.
These guys lie more then a convict and have no clue!
Check out how much campaign money they have collected from bailout companies.
Just get out of the way GOP!
Two topics: on the "budget," This was more than a PR disaster.  Now, they'll have to legitimately come up with proposals for health care and the economy, and they'll have to justify stripping hundreds of billions from the treasury by way of a massive tax cut for the wealthiest individuals in the country.  I know they're fundamentally in favor of tax cuts, but the last time the top bracket was 25% was from 1925-1931.  How did that turn out?  If you don't want to increase taxes on the rich, fine, but to slash them and decrease government revenue at a time when the government is deep in the hole is anything but fiscally responsible.

And on the magic circle: I find it heartening that Frank and Pelosi among others are turning down bailout donations.  However, Chuck Todd reported this morning that Boehner and Cantor are STILL TAKING THE FUNDS.  THIS is the true PR disaster for the GOP.  How can they explain taking contributions from bailed out companies, then rail against further bailouts (sort of--see Boehner walking out of the press conference yesterday) and scream about Democrats knowing about bonuses.  Are these not bonuses, Congressmen?  The next time either one of these jokers is on MSNBC, I expect someone to ask them what they're thinking.
A budget without numbers is a big part of what got us into this mess and about what you could expect from republicans, who invented the anti-Zorro game of pillaging government while masked as fiscal "conservatives.".

And by the way, don't feel too sorry for Paul Ryan.  Having observed him for the past few years, I rank him right up (or down) there with Sarah Palin, Bobby Jindal, Eric Cantor, and Joe the Plumber as the new breed of republican idealogues (oops, I mean intellectuals).  They're NOT smarter than they look.  What you see is EXACTLY what you get.  Paul Ryan is no Russ Feingold.
Gilibrand - guns and smokes...what was Patterson thinking!  And! He opened up a congressional district to go republican after Dems had taken it despite it being a conservative district that would normally be in republican hands....Patterson, again, what the heck were your thinking!
I support this new effort for Afghanistan/Pakistan, hopefully it will lead to a timely withdrawal by our forces. I am mindful that that was how we got 'stuck' in Vietnam for so long but I am confident that Pres. Obama, Secretary Gates and the powers that be in the Pentagon do not make this decision lightly.  We must be hopeful that it will work for Afghanistan/Pakistan but I do not believe that it will eradicate the Al-Quaeda, only shift them to a new locale.  This problem will be with us for a very long time no matter who is president.

Yesterday was a bad day for the GOP, it is hard to understand how some of their decisions are made.  How John Boehner has kept his job as a Rep. is a testament to the inattentive voters in his district and doesn't say much about them.  But keep him there he makes it easier for the rest of us... another gift that keeps on giving.

Contessa Brewer, you were great yesterday in your outrage at the charade the GOP presented.   Keep up the good work, we need more honesty in the media.
The spending jag Obama is on is worse then a heroin addicts need to shoot up.
Another great week for Obama and the democrats and another week of failure for the repugnant ones.  Thanks First Read for being the best place on the web for the many great articles and posting our comments.  Thanks to the Obama supporters for all of their great posts!  Yes We Can support our favorite website and president!

Let's hope that the voters of NY-20 make a fool out of Steele and his incompetent leadership of the party of losers.  Well that shouldn't be too hard considering how well Steele makes a fool out of himself and his decrepit shrinking party.

I was rather miffed again at MSNBC tv yesterday as they cut away from Obama's wonderful online townhall meetiung so they could show that disgusting excuse of a budget unveiling by Crybaby Boehner and his clueless gang.  Once agai I had to switch to CNN to see the end of his great townhall meeting.  When is MSNBC tv going to get the hint that they need to stick with showing Obama or suffer losing audience to CNN who does show the whole Obama show we want to see?  Come on MSNBC tv you can do better, let Fox do the dirty work of showing the repugnant ones make fools of themselves.

In First Read We Trust!
In Obama We Trust!
Obama plans to dispatch additional troops to Notre Dame...  No, wait, I read that wrong.
Why would Cantor be upset with Boehner and McConnell?

Cantor is the one who went to see Britney Spears instead of working on the budget proposal.

McConnell's the one who decided he had to reveal this flimsy budget instead of going to the White House Afghanistan briefing that McCain said was vital for our military families.
Obie has spent more money in his first 2 months in office than all the 43 presidents before him have spent totalled.

Is there a silver lining? No. Obie has already spent the money needed for the next two generations, and he's just getting started.

We do not have enough gold to back all the trillions he's already printed and the trillion more he will print.

Is Obie power mad? You bet. He's your next dictator in the modern world. Dictators often lack on thing.
Common sense.
First Read writes: “Obama also would support legislation to triple economic aid to Pakistan to about $1.5 billion a year in exchange for that country cracking down on Taliban and terrorists hiding out along border…

I'm sure they'll get right on that.
>>>...now we learn that Reps. Eric Cantor and Paul Ryan objected to unveiling yesterday’s “blueprint,” but were overruled by Reps. John Boehner and Mike Pence.
==========
That explains why Cantor left the room before the conference was over (maybe he had to listen to more Britany Spears).  These guys were talking smack like a bunch of old men in a barbershop, yet when Obama challenged them the best they could come up with is a 19-page coloring book.

Face it.  The GOP got B.O.Played.

http://jawillie.blog.com
michael steele is an idiot and the republicans in the house are out of ideas. they are a joke when it comes to ideas of governing.

the republicans proposals are insulting. the republicans and the gop are proposing more tax cuts for the wealthy.

teh republicans want more tax cuts for the wealthy than george bush proposed(to hell with the middle class as far as the gop is concerned).

the republicans want to eliminate healthcare. the republicans want to keep america dependent on foreign oil. foreign oil is one of america's largest national security risk ever.

in other words the republicans have no new ideas. the republicans want to double down(increase)on what george bush did for 8 years.

to follow the republicans is the same as putting a gun to your own head. the party of no is the party of no ideas that are good for the american people.
They're still out there....and they don't and never will care about nothing but themselves...

MEXICO & USA --- TRADING GUNS FOR DOPE ==== NOTHING NEW ABOUT THAT! === DOES ANYONE EXPECT THAT THE MEXICAN DRUG CARTELS WOULD WANT TO TRADE THEIR 'DRUGS' FOR 'BABY DIAPERS' ???  === NONSENSE === THE LEFTWINGERS, LIKE HILLARY & OBAMA, ARE MAKING A BIG DEAL OUT THIS TO FURTHER THEIR "ANTI-GUNS" AGENDA. === CAN ANYONE IN THEIR RIGHT MIND IMAGINE A USA WHERE ONLY THE CRIMINALS HAVE GUNS!

PROTECT THE 2nd AMENDMENT.

One More Bites The Dust --> Now Obama is giving 1.5 Billion to the Taliban in Pakistan.  Instead, maybe he should send them some DVD's

And that's 10 times more then the AIG execs got in bonuses. So it's okay to give government money to ruthless killers, but not give it to our own people?

Those Taliban pay their taxes on that money?
I'm so enjoying watching Obama right now on MSNBC tv and hope I get to see his whole most excellent speech.

Looks like the stock markets are taking profits today but a third week in a row of the Obama Bull Market.  It will be so funny of the markets end March with big gains that haven't been seen for about 20 years.  Like the last wonderful episode of South Park pointed out Barack Obama is going to get all the credit for reviving our economy that the bushwhacker and the repugnant ones wrecked.  The Dopes of Nope will have to eat lots of humble pie for just saying no to our fearless leader and suffer the consequences in next year's elections.

I find it so dishonest that the repugnant ones are trying to point the finger of blame for deregulation at Washington and that Wall Street had nothing to do with it.  Like heck the Wall Street criminals gave lots of money to the repugnant one politicians to make sure that Washington destroyed the Glass-Steagall Act and it's Wall Street who is to blame for bribing politicians into supporting that Gramm-Leach-Bliley garbage that killed the very regulation that kept Wall Street honest for so many decades.

Obama's got it on Afghanistan, he just announced that we need to help the Afghan farmers transition from Opium Poppy cultivation to growing good food crops.  Something that deadbeat bushwhacker never understood and never bothered to try because he didn't want to engage in nation building right before he took us into Iraq to engage in nation building because Iraq had lots of oil.

In Obama We Trust!
In bushwhacker We're Busted!
Thanks for the shout out, Chuck WA (formerly NY, right?),

re: the GOP budget fiasco, apparently they got the graphics portion of the plan down.  As Rachel thoroughly skewered last night, while reminding us that Lawrence O'Donnell indicated the GOP wouldn't be dumb enough to take the bait.  Well, those of us on the left knew they couldn't resist and they certainly didn't disappoint.  Pretty much crickets from Richard, WA and njbjnj yesterday.  They are certainly making it TOUGH to defend, aren't they?
^^^^^^^^
My Tigers were AWESOME last night!  So proud!  Pat, I can't think about baseball until this is done!
Good post Ron Indiana.  I strongly agree.
More bad news for Obama:

he got no bounce in his polls from the Press conference, unlike his last two public apearances-56% approval, 43% disapproval.

Also, Rasmussen did a poll asking if people would support a proposal to cap taxes paid to all entities, (local, state, federal), at 25% of income-a resounding 57% approved of such a cap.  Not surprising, when you consider that 52% of people believe that they pay more than their fair share of taxes.

"Tax the rich" doesn't have the resonance that some of the far left bloggers on this site, and the majority of obama supporters, think it has.  The majority of people know that 25% of 10,000 is less than 25% of 100,000.

Of course, we've all learned that liberal democrats don't bother to pay taxes, which is why they are so quick to tax others.
The GOP is pathetic.  This country is NOT SAFE with some of these turkeys in any form of leadership, namely Boehner and Cantor.
No mention of yet ANOTHER person "stepping down" from Obama's administration??  The #2 EPA appointee.
As usual, whenever the GOP has a really bad day, the righties come out in force here to defend them.  So, to help you people out a bit, here's the latest list of names for Obama.

Socialist
Facist
Communist
Dictator
Totalitarian
Muslim
Terrorist

Also, be sure to use the word TELEPROMPTER as often as possible in your postings as well.  And please continue to cite fake statistics with no source, bring up bits of minutiae to blow out of proportion, and display your hopeless fear that Obama will take your jobs, your guns, your bibles, and have you all living in cardboard boxes (where you'll somehow still be able to continue posting here).

http://jawillie.blog.com
I'm always amused by the republicans on here who claim they will pay so much more taxes under Obama. First off the fact that 10 of the top 12 welfare states are reddy red ones tells me republicans do not pay as much taxes as they think. In fact, aside from payroll related taxes most of you pay something well south of a 10% aggregated tax rate, hardly the 36 or 38% you bandy about. It is n ice to dream isn't it though?
The arrogant, "Here it is, Mr. President" should go down as priceless! Boehner looked like his spray tan melted right off of him and slithered to the floor, didn't he? And Cantor was MIA. I couldn't place who he reminded me of and then it came to me...Daffy Duck. Just put a mental image of both of them side by side and you'll get my drift.
Hard to believe the GOP LEADERSHIP would fall for President Obama's bait and produce a non-budget that would make them the laughing stock of even the right wing reporters who seemed throroughly disgusted with the 19 page brochure they touted was the answer to all of America's problems! What a bunch of losers. Where are all their supporters today? Crawled back under their rocks, I suppose. This will be enjoyable seeing how they'll try and defend this one! Especially when the only number in it is for.....drum roll.....the largest tax cut for the wealthy...EVER! Ta da! The GOP answer for everything. Oh my, back to the drawing boards, boys. You've made a real mess of this one. Can't wait to see the "specifics" next Wednesday.....let me guess......zero for healthcare, zero for environmental issues, zero for education, and drill, baby, drill, for the answer to foreign oil dependence. Yep; that's a new approach.....NOT! Our President makes these clowns look even more pathetic than they truly are.......priceless!
"Revolution"
"But when you want money
for people with minds that hate
All I can tell is brother you have to wait"
"Think for Yourself"
Darth Vader and the Dark Stars a Dick Cheny Heavy Metal production. Coming to a war zone near you.
No mention of yet ANOTHER person "stepping down" from Obama's administration??  The #2 EPA appointee.
---------------------------------------------------
Of course First Read will mention it.  Along with Obama's (now aborted) proposal to tax veterans for their health care, Obama's killing of the DC Voucher Program, his dissing of the Brits last month, and the tea parties taking place around the country.  Oh, wait.
"GONZO-GATE" IT WILL NOT JUST FADE AWAY.
Where are the usual posters who do nothing but spew offensive one-liners and offer no alternative to Obama's plans today?  Oh I know...they may realize that not even Limbaugh himself could have an explination for the "budget without numbers." Rush comes on at 1:00pm EDT first read, be ready for a deluge of posts that quote Rush verbatum.  Just a thought, why do only Conservatives seem to obnoxiously promote their Christian faith?  I am a Christian, and proud of it...but I can see right through the people who claim to have God speak to them and promote their faith while being completely immoral while no one is looking. For the most part, these are the same folks who were led like sheep to believe all of the filth spread by the McCain/Palin campaign.  They REALLY BELIEVE in the nonsense spread by people like Limbaugh, O'rielly, Hannity and Coulter and many others. Now they seem to be desperately clinging to one other "argument"...the teleprompter.  These people really need to be honest with themselves.  They need to admit what kind of people they truly are.  Oh wait...with each passing day, they show the whole country their true colors, and hopefully soon their party will be simply a footnote in history.
Cross selling Meet the Press on this blog is a waste of time.  Those who are interested will watch.  Those of us disgusted with Gregory will continue to boycott.  He is NOT acceptable in this format.  He was an excellent White House correspondent; but this hard hitting one on one - or panel stuff is unbearable to read.  How many mmmhmmmm can the guy utter in under an hour of air time?  I know you guys have to carry the water for NBC; but it just isn't going to happen with me.
^^^^^^^
In a bit of irony - 'cuz I am not a fan of George Stephenopoulus (sp?) I have actually really enjoyed his show, as an alternative.  And I swore I would never get on board.

new hopeful plug, put Lawrence O'Donnell on MTP.  He is another Irishman from Moynihan's staff and he is just incredibly fun to watch.  my two cents.
Why did the GOP choose April Fool's Day to release their budget? The jokes just write themselves.

P.S. Thanks for the shout out Chuck, WA and thanks for your insights into our crazy politics in this country!

(*waves to ace* Good to see you around again!)

About that blue print...
It's s-o-o-o-o comparable to and conjures up images of the Bone Head Bohener holding a magnifying glass to the budget and claiming to still see no budget plans! This is typically, blind-eyed, complicity coming from the Bone Headed Bohener !   US of America is still waiting to see you, the Party of No/Know Nothing,  give  US of America as tangible evidence that you have viable numbers (a budget) for  US of America. So get your blind-eye in perspective rather than  the same old oversight.
Btw:Gary Stern, Minneapolis Fed President, said that at least a mild recovery could take hold by mid-year before healthier growth kicks in during 2010.The significance of a recent run of better-than-expected economic data, including Wednesday's durable goods orders for February, should not be overstated.

Although Lockhart said."One month does not make a recovery, so we have to be careful not to react too strongly."
So then wouldn't it be logical to conclude--the restoration will follow the destructive decades of Regan/Bush ERROR, not precede?  After all, the president is  not personally responsible for the gigantic deficits and bailouts along with those non-sensical bonuses.

What does the Party of No think now?
FR: "Let’s be honest: Yesterday’s House Republican budget rollout was a P.R. disaster for the GOP."
------------

Let's  be honest: The P.R. that the GOP used to sell their toxic policies over the past 8 years has been a disaster for America. Their fake budget filled with nothing but the usual stale Republican talking points is just another example of P.R. with nothing behind it but the GOP's lust for power at any cost to the country.
