Fewest U.S. Iraq casualties last month

From NBC’s Courtney Kube
March 2009 saw the fewest number of U.S. casualties in Iraq since the beginning of the war.

Nine American men and women died in Iraq last month -- five of those troops were killed in non-hostile action.

And to add one more interesting fact, one of the four Americans killed in hostile action was a woman, who was serving at a Forward Operating Base in Mosul.

July 2008 was the second lowest month for casualties in Iraq, with 13 total. March 2009 was the first month where U.S. casualties were in the single digits since the beginning of the war.

They wanted that honor and when the got it the flip it the bird.

So Brian, maybe if you weren't an illiterate troll you would have noticed that.

Ohhhh now this is PRICELESS… Who are you calling illiterate there pal??  You might want to try to string together a coherent sentence or two before you start calling other people names!  And your spelling is just as BAD!

Did you go to the Palin School of Journalism??? All 5 or 6 that is!

You BETCHA he did
Non-hostile action?  Does that mean they were electrocuted by faulty showers?  I'm not trying to make a joke, I'm being serious here.  Because if half of March's casualties were caused by faulty wiring, this is much more of an issue than Halliburton/KBR wants to let on.
Oh goody, now we can bring some of them home and send the others to Afghanistan where they should have been in the first place.
Will Obama blame the improvement and fewer casualties in Iraq on Bush???
Just turn this one over to the Iraqi's and get us the heck OUT of there before one more needless death occurs.  And take the fight to Afghanistan, as was stated all along.
We should say thanks that there weren't any more, but there really will be no "good" news until that number is zero and stays there.  Nine lives a month is still nine lives too many to sacrifice for Bush's folly.
9 more than should have died because we never should've went there...blame Bush.
God bless america and these good men and women who protect us and do all that their country has asked them to do. Over 4,000 gave their lives. Oh and by the way it looks like Obama and most other Dems were dead wrong about the surge. Instead of having a mess on his hands Obama was able to quip that Iraq is the least of his problems ! However don't ever expect these ingrates to ever say they were wrong and don't expect the funny press to have the b---- to ask. They are afraid Obie will cut them out of the next "news conference". The burning question is can any one of you dems think of a reason that the vast majority of dems and lefties would actually fight for their country other than a war to liquidate all pro lifers? Admit it there are no reasons strong enough to overcome the dems loathing for this country and their knee jerk reaction that somehow we are always the villian. Hopefully some day they will come back around but as they have been indoctrinated by our public schools for the last 40 years it is highly unlikely.
To Paul: I'm glad you find it so acceptable that 4500 Americans and more than half a million Iraqis died in a war that should have never been fought.  The Democrats should say that they were WRONG for opposing the surge?  What have we actually gained by the surge?  More American soldiers are dead now than before and Iraq is still not a peaceful country.  Give me a break.  The Democrats will say they were wrong right after the Republicans say they were wrong for lying us into a war and for labeling anyone who didn't agree with them as anti-American.
"Paul (Sent Wednesday, April 01, 2009 4:29 PM)"  Don't act so smug, bub.  We never should have been there to begin with.  4,263 American soldiers have died so far so that democracy could "grow like wildflowers throughout the Middle East."  How's that working out?  Sorry, doing 1 thing right 6 years in doesn't qualify as being right.
You're right Paul, let's keep in mind that more than 4,000 Americans and an untold number of innocent Iraq civilians have died in Iraq.  Whether we should have gone in there or not, whether the surge worked or not, really isn't that relevant at this point.  Let's hope that we can achieve a sustainable peace there, withdraw and get after Al Queda and use our resources wisely and not sacrifice our women and men unnecessarily.  I don't know who fuels your anger, but I can suspect who they are.  But, whatever, I'm not sure what the point is in the continued denunciations and demonizing.
Paul - I still don't believe a "surge" was the answer.  How many more brave men and women died to prove the point?  Our soldiers deserve our respect and gratitude - but our politicians get no credit.  We never should have been in Iraq to start with - so a surge wouldn't have been necessary.  Over 4000, 4000! Americans died for nothing.  And now we still face Afghanistan and all the problems there - and the Taliban is stronger than ever because we were in Iraq!  Had we taken those 4000 soldiers and fought the real fight in Afghanistan against the Taliban, maybe that war would be over.  Instead more lives are risked.

As for loving this country, Republicans and their greed and giving, giving to the rich, and pouring money into a war we shouldn't have started, and deregulations so their Wall Street buddies and banks could make even more money have taken this country to the brink of extinction.  That's not patriotism.  That's not love of country.  That's love of power and money and position.

We Democrats believe in the true America.  The one that doesn't torture people.  One that doesn't start a war.  One that supports the middle and lower class as well as the upper class.  One that takes care of our children already born with health care.  One that cares.  Republicans turned their back on the real American people and the people have had enough.

We, the product of public education, have had enough of the elitest, enough of the so-called Christians and their private schools and vouchers.  We've had enough of carrying the burden of your luxuries.  We will not be controlled by a group of polticians who think they know best - when what they know is what is best for them.

giving credit to the lack of violence this month on the surge is just inane.  The surge achieved its military goals because we PAID the enemy combatants to stop shooting at us.  The political objectives of the surge were not, have not, and never will be met because of the surge.  you can't win in this situation with military objectives, it takes diplomacy and rebuilding the country to show these people a better way of life in order to win their hearts and minds.

oh, and btw, in the 2nd or 3rd debate then candidate Obama gave the surge credit for achieving its immediate military goals, but it didn't achieve its political, economic, or overall security goals.  The pres gives credit where credit is due, too bad you right wing nuts can't cut the partisan ideology and do the same...

Four policeman killed in Oakland in one weekend.  And yes, 8 people killed in a nursing home by a nut.  And three dead when police kill a guy who just beheaded his five year old sister after killing his 17 year old sister in Massachusetts, with a knife, because Massachusetts has tough gun laws.  At least he was finished off with a gun before he finished off his nine year old sister with the knife.

Even read an article recently about the number of murders in 2004 in California exceeding the number of coalition fatalities by a significant margin.  You know, California, the state most compared in size to Iraq.

Brian Crooks:

More likely vehicle related, like the three or four thousand that happened here during the month of March. Could have been suicide, too.

You seem to prefer they were electrocuted just to make a political point, but that's probably just me imagining it.  Suicide would work too, wouldn't it?

I actually wish you WERE trying to make joke.
