Downballot: Franken increases lead

MINNESOTA: After counting some 350 absentee ballots yesterday, Al Franken (D) increased his lead over Norm Coleman (R) to 312 votes -- out of 2.9 million votes cast last November.

The Star Tribune: “Not long after a decisive majority of once-rejected absentee ballots were counted and broke for Franken on Tuesday, attorneys on both sides were already jawing over the merits of an appeal in the 10-week-old U.S. Senate recount trial. Coleman spokesman Ben Ginsberg said the three presiding judges erred in permitting only 351 rejected absentee ballots to be counted. ‘We will be appealing this to the Minnesota Supreme Court,’ he said.”

“Franken attorney Marc Elias brushed aside the threat. ‘I don't think there is much of a case on appeal at all,’ he said.”

The New York Times adds that the case before the three-judge panel “is still not over because the panel has to rule on two outstanding issues: Mr. Coleman is trying to have some ballots removed from the total because he says they have been counted twice, and he says that 132 ballots lost in the recount should not be included in the final tally. Regardless of how the panel rules on these issues, Mr. Franken’s lawyers say Mr. Coleman cannot gain enough votes to overtake him.”

Roll Call: The three-judge panel is expected to rule on those matters, plus which candidate lawfully received the most votes, in the next few days."

Hah Hah Senator Al Franken just increased his lead and sore loser coleman only has one more option left.  He's already lost 4 related verdicts from this court so why does he think he'll prevail in the final one?  Time for that creep coleman to show some class and concede, oh I forgot he's a repugnant ones and has no class.

Seat Senator Al Franken Now!
I have to admit, Coleman does have the legal right to pursue all his legal avenues before conceding.  We dems might not like it, but that's the system in place.  If Franken ultimately prevails, he better deliver for his state, big time, or else, in 6 years, he should ask for his old job back at SNL.
I feel sorry for Minnesotans.
I support Frankin in this race. Not because I believe Frankin will support a constitutional government, he like most all current elected officials do not support the government limitations required by law. I believe Frankin might help us laugh as we continue the slide into greater regulation and limitations on personal liberty.
If Coleman had a genuine concern for Minnesotans and to make sure they have representaiton then he should have conceded after the first verdict, and most definitely the second.
Coleman and his followers called for Al Gore to give up as soon as he appeared to be behind.  But they've learned their lesson.  Now they grown up enough to know they should kick and whine and hold their breaths until they get their way!
And Norms GOP lawyer Bennie Ginsberg, remember that name,Florida ring a bell, has called three Judges wrong, called the re=count board wrong, three more judges that where on that board. So Bennie let me get it straight,as long as the law is not in your backpack ,the law is wrong. Please you whinning peice of Dirt,go back to DC and grab another obstruction case, since thats what you and your employer does best.Bennie, who is paying you,Norm has to be taped by now,did he sign his house over to you,be careful it has been refied a dozen times.
I wonder how much this costs?  Minnesotans should be upset that the GOP is pissing away their tax dollars.
Count only Coleman ballots not even think about counting Franken ballots, right Norm? What a friggin loser. Seat Senator Franken. Minnesota deserves 2 Senators.
well I guess this is going to be ddragged on as I had predicted (but I was really hoping he wouldn't take it any further). there is only one question left on my mind. Who is going to bring the popcorn for this loooong boring show?
Let's not forget how vociferously Coleman was clamoring for Franken to do the "honorable thing" and concede *before all the regular votes were even counted*, because at the time he had a slim lead. Remember how he said how it was best for Minnesota to get the election resolved so that government could go on? While Coleman has a legal right to pursue these court proceedings now, his obstinacy and petulant refusal to accept reality, and apparent utter hypocrisy, are utterly apparent.  This serves as one more instance of how Republicans want everyone else to march in step when they hold any edge, but serve as obstructionists and rabblerousing naysayers themselves when the roles are reversed, rather than anything even remotely resembling a "loyal opposition." Regardless of the penalties the nation might suffer from their refusals.
Please count the money that the GOP has cost its fiscally conservative supporters here.  Who is to say any other ballots will swing to Coleman's side?  The Al Gore comment was interesting seems the GOP always wants their own cake, and eat it too!  Please this system sucks,  notice how the true 'biggies' of the GOP have kept their hands and voices off this one.  Also notice the chances of Coleman running for Governor going out the window.  And notice the sleezeball attorney.  Enough help will you don't hinder,  like you 'deep it all' conservatives are good at!
I think I speak for a number of my fellow Minnesotans when I say that I'd just like this whole mess to be over. Senator Coleman, with respect, you can't win this. If you are as interested in the welfare of this state and nation as you portray yourself to be, do the noble thing and concede. We need a senator in Washington - now, not six months from now.
Why Minnesota citizens want a clown to represent them is beyond me.
Two quotes from Will Rogers seem appropriate:

"Everything is changing. People are taking their comedians seriously and their politicians as jokes."

"Compared to them I’m an amateur, and the thing about my jokes is that they don’t hurt anybody. You can say they’re not funny or they’re terrible or they’re good or whatever it is, but they don’t do no harm. But with Congress—every time they make a joke it’s a law. And every time they make a law it’s a joke."
Our opinion of Coleman goes down every day, he only cares about himself, not Minnesota.
Republicans are poor losers.
Coleman, please go get a job and stop wasting our time.
I have to admit, Coleman does have the legal right to pursue all his legal avenues before conceding.  We dems might not like it, but that's the system in place.  If Franken ultimately prevails, he better deliver for his state, big time, or else, in 6 years, he should ask for his old job back at SNL.

That *is* the system in place, but, when Gore tried to exercise those same rights, he was all but crucified by the GOP for doing it.  The same, GOP, I might add, who are now bankrolling his legal fees.

They must love the smell of hypocrisy in the morning.
Hey Anon,

The Obama administration is pissing away your tax dollars. Minnesotans should really be pissed off for that. Look out, are you ready for a hugh tax increase?? Obama's got a surprise waiting in the bushes for you.
Why Minnesota citizens want a clown to represent them is beyond me.

Because there is no accounting for taste...see Presidential election results of Nov 2000 and Nov 2004 for examples.
The GOP are the kings of hypocrisy!  When Bush DID NOT win the 2000 election they were quick to stop the recount.  Now they want to have a re-vote thinking it will allow them to win.  I doubt that.  Coleman looks like a petulant child who didn't get what he wanted for Christmas.  One thing, it helps to further paint the Republicans in a bad light.  Keep it up.
Wait... this is still not over? These appeals are gonna cost the GOP millions. Good luck raising funds next time around when all you do is piss it away like this.
Do Minnesotans drink the same water as Iowans?  Is there a cerebral virus wreaking havoc in the midwest?
THE COLEMAN RECOUNT FIASCO IS MERELY A G.O.P. PLOY AMONG OTHERS TO STYMIE THE OBAMA AGENDA BY DENYING THE DEMOCRATS AN ADDITIONAL VOTE IN THE SENATE. WHAT THE G.O.P.UNDERSTANDS IS THAT IF OBAMA & THE DEMOCRATS ARE SUCCESSFUL WITH THEIR VARIED AGENDA OF HEALTH CARE, JOBS, NON-CARBON-BASED ENERGY, AND A NEW FOREIGN POLICY, THE G.O.P. WILL BE RELEGATED TO THE DUSTBIN OF HISTORY FOR A GENERATION OR MORE. OBFUSCIATION & DELAY ARE THEIR ONLY OPTIONS. A MAJORITY OF AMERICANS HAVE ALREADY DISCREDITED BUSH AND BLAMED THE G.O.P. FOR THIS TRAGIC MESS.
It is time for Norm Coleman to do what he claims he would like to do; help the people of Minnesota. They need a Senator. They elected one. It's not Coleman. He should face reality and quit this futile and expensive race.
I think Coleman should exhaust all his legal options because Minnesota law allows it. Not time for the Village Idiot to join the club just yet.
Do Minnesotans have to pay taxes this year?  The reason I ask is since they are not receiving full representation in our government then why should they have to pay taxes?  (I know strange question, however does make for an interesting legal challenge.)
Franken won, Coleman lost.

Ben Ginsberg and his client need to stop using RNC money for court battles and stop this charade.

The obvious reason this continues is to prevent a veto proof 60 votes in the Senate, not to continue Coleman's seniority in the Senate.

Somewhere along the line Ol' Norm is going to have to evaluate his personal political damage if he is ever to resurface as a candidate for other public offices. Lets see if he's smart enough to do it.
Suprised he is increasing his lead?

Thats what happens when you count some votes twice.

They now have more votes cast that people that voted.  Alls fair there - the democratic solution.
