Liz Cheney on MSNBC

Posted: Friday, April 24, 2009 7:16 AM by Mark Murray

From NBC's Adam Verdugo
In an interview with MSNBC's Norah O'Donnell, Liz Cheney, a former Deputy Assistant Secretary of State during the Bush administration, defended her father, saying that the harsh interrogation tactics yielded valuable intelligence and that the tactics didn't amount to torture.

"The tactics are not torture," she told O'Donnell. "The memos laid out the extent of exactly how far we could go before it would become torture, because it was important we not cross that line into torture."

Cheney added that the tactics outlined in the CIA memos are the same techniques are used on Americans for training purposes. "Everything that was done in this program, as has been laid out and described before, are tactics that our own people go through in SERE (Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Evasion) training," she said adding, "We did not torture our own people."

Liberal-leaning ThinkProgress, however, points out that in one of the memos, the Bush Justice Department acknowledged that the SERE training was a "very different" experience from what a detainee would experience. "SERE trainees know it is part of a training program, not a real-life interrogation regime, they presumably know it will last only a short time, and they presumably have assurances that they will not be significantly harmed by the training," the memo states.

Let the whole Cheney family come out and interview to save Dick Cheney's legacy.  It's not going to work.  Nobody cares what any of them have to say.

For someone who wouldn't utter a word during the Bush Administration, everything was top secret - he's sure singing like a bird now!
Cheney, like her father, is dedicated to obfuscating the truth with shameless prevarications and distortions of the truth that make theor words a certainty of misconceptions. Her lack of expertise other than having his DNA is startling and what is even more surprising is her not being called out on her BS by Nora O'Donnell who is usually pretty a hardball player. Was she intimidated by Liz Cheney? Lawrence O'Donnell,on the other hand, was smoking out of the gate to ream Cheney and call her out onher falsehoods and the fact that she and her father never allow the frame to be shared so they have one dide and one side only; theirs. I am a retired vet who attended SERE in Maine. She doesn't know WTF she is talking about. But then again, no Cheneys ever served any real military time.
Liz Cheney is intelligent and articulate.  However, she needs to pull her head out of her backside and admit reality.  The Humpty-Dumpty Bush/Cheney administration was a national and international disgrace.  Let the investigations roll and let history record them as such.
Sorry forget Cheney if he was so worried or think's he is that smart or guilty he should have just ran for The President's job it was open.
SERE trainees know they won't have to go through it 183 times.  I wonder what the rate of PTSD is among SERE trainees...

Last night Keith Olbermann called Sean Hannity out on his flippant offer to be "waterboarded for charity."  Olbermann upped the ante, saying that for every second Hannity was waterboarded, he would donate $1000 to charity.  Hey Keith, open that challenge up to the general public and provide a way to make donations.  Can you imagine how many people would pay to see that?  You could raise MILLIONS for charity!
Lizzie, if you don't think it is torture, why don't you volunteer to prove it, I am sure that someone would give money to a charity if you did. Cheney should be in jail, pure and simple. He had the title of VP and led this country into breaking well established laws.  You don't torture, and you certainly don't torture in MY name.  It doesn't surprise me that Lizzie doesn't get it, since none of the Cheney's seem particularly bright.
What the "Gross Odd People" (GOP), and the "Really Not Competent" (RNC) have not figured out yet. Is that "Chump-Change-Cheney" is a War Criminal. He has broken the law, and this mentally ill individual is proud of it. Our Constitution, and our Bill Of Rights were established long before the tragic events of 9/11. The rationalization of the use of torture by the GOP/RNC is a disgrace to laws of our nation. NO President, NO Vice President, and No Government of ours. NEVER had the legal right to ever use torture. This insane arguement that the Democrats knew about the use of torture is a political game of "passing" responsibility. The "Brainless Bush" and "Chump-Change-Cheney" Government was very secretive in nature. They told the Democrats very little, or nothing at all. Their goal was to keep everyone in the dark as long as possible, and then try to distort the laws of our nation. The German officials after World War II used the same rational for torture as the GOP/RNC is doing today. It helped keep us safe. It was to protect our nation. It helped protect the nation from our enemies. The judges at Nuremburg in 1946, thought this was a load of crap! Guess what my fellow Americans. IT STILL IS!! Mr. Holder needs to start doing his job quickly, and our President needs to stay out of the way. This is the job of the US Justice Department, and no one else. Our nation can not move forward. If justice is allowed to fall backwards. Time to move forward America!!
Legacy? My aren't we full of it this morning.
Do these soldiers get these "tactics" 183 times? Maybe Cheney should be put through these training tactics 183 times. Liz maybe you'd like to go through the training tactics (torture).
Denial denial denial lie lie lie.
and we would listen to the 'unbiased' cheney girl why?
if cheney wanted to declassify things, he had 8 years to do so.  his days are over, maybe he has regrets but he is so evil i doubt it.  I still want the notes and participants from the energy task force he setup way back when.  I know the media likes to stir things up but does America really need this kind of public crap from cheney?  He never cared about our country and it really shows now.
Wasn't SERE outlawed under the rules of the Geneva Convention??
listening to liz cheney it's easy to see that she is dickey's daughter she spits out hatered
LOL...this is getting a little shrill on the tortyrer's part, not to mention pathetic. Methinks they protesteth too much.

Anybody heard whether Hannity will take up Olbermann's offer?
The economy continues to flounder, unemployment is still up, GM can’t make it’s first payment, Chrysler wants to file as bankrupt, 650,000 union workers from the UAW falling under the government for their continued benefits.
A country divided, states talking of secession, and Obama and his supporters have the nation chasing after whether or not we tortured enemy combatants.
I would say that he and his staff have done a very good job of pulling interest away from the deficient he has run up and intends to run up more, from unemployment, and from the economy.   Actually I would say that for the first time he and his staff have done a really outstanding job.  You could almost say that for the first time I am proud of my president.  Almost.
A side note.  I am retired military; my children have followed in my footsteps and the footsteps of their grandfather.  We use worse “torture” techniques on our own troops at the Survival Recovery schools.
My daughter has already attended, my son in-law has attended, and one of our very best friends on their way to command at an unnamed site in the Middle East is attending next week.  Guess what they all survived and are grateful for training.
The media is loving this crap and will continue to spoon feed it to all of you sheep.  Meanwhile the US is burning while Obama plays his violin.
Sheep
Take a look at Clinton's.  Or Reagan's, for that matter.

the approal number is more a measure of personal popularity.  The important numbers are the specfic policy numbers, and they are not good, if you are a Democrat.

=====================

please go to fox website... You show pure hate for Your/our Leader.

I ask you is it socialism when you take from the rich and give to the poor.  Then I ask you When you take from the middle class and give to the rich...why isn't that the same thing.  when you exploit the meek and it advances only the Rich what do you call that. Why isn't that a form of socailism. It's because the powerful has a voice that has to be heard.  Are upset student loans are now part to the corparate stucture? Are you upset Student aid been cut? 401/tsp has dropped, Eron?  Why don't you realize that they exploited the meek and the middle class. When you buy a home do you not borrow money you don't have, when you have a margin account do you not borrow money you don't have, what about start a business?... so if you finance a 300k home, and then finance a car, then have a credit card, even if you have all the money will spend all of your cash when you can pay over time..

So everyone in this blog is dumb because if you bought a house you can't pay for in cash you are dumb.... You have money you can't pay back right away... Bill gates dumb, Warren Buffet dumb, Steven Jobs dumb, Donald Trump Dumb,

You can't print what you don't have in gold and other captial/assest, it's call fraud due...you have to have something that way value can be assign to the currency....

please read Dr. Ravi Batra, a professor of economics at Southern Methodist University and read the objective to him & then read their counter part.  Only take news as serious as you take watching American Idol.
Liz Cheney is as crazy as her father.
So Liz, if a woman was violently raped...and the doctors found out from the examination that they perform on rape victims that the woman had the early signs of cancer, but because they found it when they did they can save her life...

Does that make rape ok?

This is a stupid arguement...Torture is wrong and illegal, no matter what it yields.  I don't care what information it produced.

Liz or her father wouldn't of lasted 15 minutes going through these so called "Tactics".  So when you two are done wiping your hynies with what's left of american descency and due process we'll continue to clean it up.
Good girl, Liz...say what you must to keep your father from being tried for war crimes. I can imagine how worried you must be.
How'd a babe end up on msnbc?
How can a liberal leaning group be named "ThinkProgress" when it is neither?
Who cares what she has to say? I know I don't.
How dare anyone speak against the annointed president.

Liz Cheney will now be listed on Obie's Domestic Terrorist watch list.

All Hail The King
The tactics are not torture," she told O'Donnell. "The memos laid out the extent of exactly how far we could go before it would become torture,

during WWII we the united states of america was better than the germany and japan because of how we treated out prisioners of war. i have seem many storys about german pows that were impressed with the way we treated them as POWs. this made them rethink there countrys tactics as to how they treated there POWs. not giving prisioners the right inder the geneva convention is tortue plain and simple. john mccain who had to go through years of being tortue has said what we did was wrong. yes the attacked us but 2 wrongs down make it right.
Ofcourse War Criminal Cheney's Daughter is going to lie to protect her evildoer dad and her own reputation.  Noran O'Donnell did a great job getting her to lie through her teeth about waterboarding not being torture.

Isn't it too funny how Obama has got the entire repugnant one party in a tizzy that they are going be exposed for the evildoers they are.  It's like watching Sheriff Obama walking into the Irrelevant Elephant saloon with all the criminals drinking it up and he pulls out his six-shooter and starts shooting at the floor making the repugnant ones dance the six-shooter shuffle.  Man he showed he will not tolerate a bunch of whining jerks any longer and that's change I can believe in.

I am so enjoying the great new news that 2,000 photos of torture will be released next month.  A picture is worth ten thousand words, 2,000 will be priceless in rubbing the evildoers' noses in their own hubris.

Prosecute War Criminals Bush and Cheney!
Question for Liz Cheney...

If these tactics were applied to you, would you consider yourself tortured?
Cheney was a one dimensional VP. His legacy is entirely entwined in national defense and to be held accountable for the torture policies of the Bush administration would be devastating to say the least. As he pens his memoirs  he most certainly is reinforcing the fallacies contained in his version of history. His attacks on the Obama administration are bordering on sedition.
What is all the up roar about if these procedures are not torture. I feel that they are torture. Why would Liz Cheney think I would believe her, her father, Bush or any other member of the Bush administration?
Again forget Cheney and his not only supporters but conspirators for not every American wanted toinvade Iraq or torture anybody especially when they promised to go after Bin Ladin and his crew in Afghanistan lies and more lies and almost made it more dangerous for any American abroad they should go after all those involved see it's not that we can't get out  at will it's really like we are being held hostage, sorry think about it after the bullying and no talking to the UN and other;s we have no real boarders to cross to load up our men and equipment and I'm not milatary but I watched real close even from the fisrt day the found those empty trailers that did not have the WMD"S this was a money deal that went wrong its funny that the Ex-VICE that claims he has so much intel or knowledge on our safety, so if  he cared for America that much why didn'the run for the President's job for it was open, see signifying is worse than testifying oops maybe that will be next for him see they took us in with no exit startegy and then threaten those who might have been willing to let us use their air feild to leave andit going to be up to President Obama to negoiate these terms that's the real memior's, for we are not really at war for if we were I think him and some of the folks who make these latest remarks should be held accountable
lol....Sure!  Empty Wagons make's lots of noises....

No Jo, No Bo.... We are going to bring you over from the evil empire..(joking)
"The tactics are not torture"  "The tactics are not torture".

OK, Liz, I still don't believe you or your Dad.  PARANOIA runs deep in the Cheney family.  Mans inhumanity to man is disgusting.  Torture breaks the law!  Torture BREAKS the LAW!  So there!

Guess the acorn doesn't fall far from the tree.
If waterboarding is not torture, why are there so many cases of people being convicted of torture/war crimes when they used waterboarding? These are facts-look up the many cases.

The fact that some are arguing that torture works is irrelevant. Perhaps raping and killing the wives and children of terrorists would work too, but does that mean it's right or legal? This argument that our own troops have SERE training is nonsense (BTW-the purpose of that program was to introduce the tactics that could be used by countries that don't care much for human rights.) Having one experience of waterboarding must be scary enough for our military in training but one terrorist had this 6 times a day for a month. And I thought Bush told us these methods were used sparingly??? I KNOW these are bad guys but do we throw out our moral compass and the rule of law so we can stoop to their level?

Right-wingers claim that an LA terror plot was stopped because of "harsh interrogatio" but that was 6 months before the torture memos approving such harsh measures were given. We landed those leads WITHOUT using torture (this is coming from the agent that followed the rules and got that info.)

It is a sad day when people like Scarborough and Buchanan are saying that fact-finding/investigating this will make us less safe and make us look weak. The torture program showed the ultimate weakness within our government.

I voted for Bush twice and did not begin to open my eyes until the final months of his presidency. Suddenly, the words of Barack Obama started to make sense and I voted for the Democrat for the first time ever.

This Republican is so disappointed that the GOP is more concerned about defending torture because "it worked" than following the Geneva Convnention and condemning this on moral grounds. Even John McCain is in step with this unified support for the Bush policy. Very sad indeed.

Proud Member RepublicansforObama.org
She's an idiot, spewing talking points.
Obie

Soft on terrorism. A political pushover. Ashamed of his own country.

When's the next Apology Tour?
