First 100 days: The day finally arrives

The New York Times uses the president's intervention into the auto industry as a case study of how he makes decisions. It's a worthy read. "For a new president, the automobile industry crisis has tested the boundaries of his activist approach and the acuity of his political instincts. As with so many issues in his action-packed 100 days in office, Mr. Obama confronted choices few of his predecessors encountered. His ongoing intervention in an iconic sector of the economy offers a case study in the education, management and decision-making of a fledgling president.”

“Tutored by veterans of past administrations, Mr. Obama, often after dinner with his wife and daughters, devoured briefing papers until midnight to master the intricacies of the auto industry. But he had advisers deal directly with the car companies and never spoke with the G.M. chief executive he effectively fired. Methodical and dispassionate, Mr. Obama aggravated powerful players in Congress and the unions that helped elect him, then moved to assuage them. He encouraged internal debate but was forced to head off tensions as his treasury secretary and White House economic adviser maneuvered for position. In the end, he struggled with the proper balance between government power and market forces, a theme that has defined his first months in office."

The Wall Street Journal’s Jerry Seib writes, “Some people have become a bit cynical about marking a new president's first 100 days, calling the milestone a kind of faux, Hallmark-card moment. Perhaps. But if ever there were 100 days worth marking, it would be those drawing to an end Wednesday. Consider what the country and its new president have been through.”

Nancy Pelosi has an op-ed in The Hill on Obama's first 100 days: "By any measure, the work of President Obama and Congress in our first 100 days has been a great success. But it is just the prelude for the work that still needs to be done, including passing quality, accessible and affordable healthcare, tackling global warming and achieving energy independence, and restoring fiscal responsibility. In partnership with President Obama, Congress will continue to move America in a New Direction."

Others judging Obama: Russ Feingold gave Obama mostly A’s -- EXCEPT when it came to "state secrets" as a defense "to resist the release of information." For that, Feingold gave Obama a “D.”

The AP on that Air Force One photo op: "The taxpayer bill for Monday's presidential plane flight over Manhattan was $328,835. The political cost to the Obama White House will be harder to calculate."

The auto industry debacle is proof that Obama takes care of his donors without regard to doing what is right.  He took care of the unions and screwed everyone else.  And the unions are one of the main factors in the American auto industry demise.  I will never buy a Chrysler or GM product again.
I feel our CIC has done a stellar job considering what he's had to deal with.  As the polls show, so do many others.  It's my opinion this country now feels like there is hope, that we can get thru this trying time in history.  I do not agree with all his decisions but feel he does care about the people of this country, unlike the last bozo in charge.
Pres Obama did more in 100 days than Bush did in 8 years. The very next thing Pres Obama should do is   bring charges against twin evils Bush/Cheney. ['Justice delayed is democracy denied.' Robert F. Kennedy]
President Obama has done a great job for his first 100 days. The President has been on task, listens well to others, and has learned some important political lessons quickly. President Obama has proven that he is able to think ideas through, and too stay Presidential under preasure. Nothing is going to be perfect! Compared to our last President? Our new President is a much better. President Obama is able to speak clearly, use diplomacy well, and take rational action as needed. Keep-up the continued good work Mr. President! So far overall. I am very impressed!!
This should be a national holiday. We could have parades, and floats, andthose giant ballons of whimsical characters. Obama could be on the last float tossing out benefits and money to the losers that voted to him.
Ah the day of the media making much ado about nothing and a mountain out of a molehill as they use the 100 day mark to try to drive up public interest.  Still it's nice that the media will be celebrating how well Obama has done his first 100 days, well except for fox and freaks and cnn (fox lite).

One thing for certain is Obama is giving us our money's worth as he really has to work hard fixing the many screwups bushwhacker and the evil elephants made.

I give Barack an "A" for his first 100 days as he has done great work restoring truth, justice and the American way back to America!

In Obama We Trust!

Non-issue issue.  People will scream about it for a few more days, the Limbaugh-Zombies will keep it as a talking point, but it'll be forgotten as soon as the next big news story comes along.

<Begin snarky sarcasm>
THESE POLLS CAN'T BE RIGHT!  IT'S IMPOSSIBLE THAT THESE POLLS ARE RIGHT!  THEY'RE ALL LIBERAL, ALL OF THEM!  ULTRA-LEFT WING LIBERAL SOCIALIST RAGS!  WHERE ARE THE POLLS THAT TELL US HOW MUCH WE HATE OBAMA!  HELP US FOX NEWS!  HELP US RASMUSSEN!
<End snarky sarcasm>

Seriously.  It's pretty telling when every poll has him at a 55% approval or better (Rasmussen - 56%, FOX - 62% for those of you who are interested).  Face it, righties.  Obama's popular.  We like him.  We have faith in him.  And we believe in him.  Most importantly, he believes in this country.  He gives it to us straight without the "talk down to the peons" attitude we got from the last president.  Hate on him if you want, its your right.  But you have to acknowledge that you're in a shrinking minority here.  Let me quote some advice from Bill Maher.

>>>Look, I understand what you "real Americans" are going through. After eight years of controlling everything, this latest election and Obama's popularity have you feeling a little like a rejected husband. You're the bitter divorced guy who comes home one day, and all your things are out on the front lawn. Or at least more things than you usually keep out on the front lawn.

But, you're not ready to let go. Despite the fact that the country you love has left you and is moving on. Which makes you want to call it a "whore" and key its car. You can't articulate your feelings. One minute you're blubbering about how much you love it, and the next, you're vowing that if you can't have it, nobody will.

But, it's been almost 100 days, and your country is not coming back to you. She's found somebody new. And, I hate to tell you, it's a black guy. <<<

jawillie:  you live in Phillie.  Here in the New York metro area, where we had friends and loved ones in those buildings, it IS a big deal.

That photo op was a disgrace.  Some of us won't forget; many who had, now remember.  And they know who to blame.
As an INDEPENDENT voter, I have to say the President is doing a pretty good job so far.  Let's face it; he inherited a rather messy situation.  I personally would not like to be the USA President in this day of age.  That being said.... I am disturbed by the racial comments that are being printed all over the web.  You may not like him because he is a Dem or even you may not think him doing a good job, that’s your opinion.  But, to dislike a person because of his/her race, gender, sexual orientation, pro choice, pro life, or anything personal is just plain WRONG!  I am proud to be an American.  I have traveled all over this world and I am always happy when the plane lands on US soil.  Let's go beyond our early American prejudices and judge not the things that can't be change, but on the job the man is doing.  I have faith in our government, and I believe the USA will succeed in getting out of this funk.  God Bless.
Thank God the hundred day media hype is finally over. Can we move on now and talk about things that matter to the American people. The 24 hour cable news babble starts to get on my nerves after awhile.
