Obama on 100: 'Not a miracle worker'

From NBC’s Domenico Montanaro

President Obama said he is “pleased,” but not “satisfied” with what he and his administration have accomplished in his first 100 days while speaking at a town hall in Arnold, Mo.

“I'm not a miracle worker,” Obama declared, after saying he’s not "content" when workers are out of jobs, some don’t have health care and the U.S. is not leading the world in developing 21st Century solutions to energy.

He tried to buy himself some space, urging patience on solutions and reminding that he inherited these crises, which he said “were many years in the making” and that it’s going to take a while to overcome them.

“We've come a long way,” the president said. “We can see the light on the horizon, but we have a long journey ahead.”

Obama used that same rhetorical “suspension-of-disbelief” flair seen on the campaign trail when saying that people shouldn’t be surprised by the policies he’s pursued. After all, he’d laid them all out during the campaign, he said.

“It's not like anybody should be surprised,” he said, adding almost laughing, “The things we've done are the plans we've talked about for two years.”

He boasted that “it's good to be out of Washington. It's good to be in the Midwest, … where common sense often reigns.”

This is Obama’s latest trip to a battleground state. Remember, Missouri was the closest state of the 2008 presidential election. He lost it by fewer than 4,000 votes.

(When speaking, Obama twice pronounced Missouri, by the way, as Missour-uh. Arnold, however, is outside St. Louis and not in the Southwest section of the state where Missour-uh is the accepted pronunciation.)

More to come from NBC's Athena Jones, who's on the ground at the town hall in Arnold, Mo.

No mission accomplish banner or pandering to the special interests unless we consider unemployed workers and the uninsured special interests.

If you want to get a better handle on the President's positions and philosophy, try the "Audacity of Hope", better in audio book format. Those policies are more than 2 yrs old and the President had carefully thought them through.

Change is here!
Barack Hussein Obama is far too modest about his performance his first 100 days, so unlike that clueless self serving blowhard before him who screwed up everything.  Obama has done a lot of good things to get rid of the bushwhacker's failed incompetent rules and regulations.

Obama is so awesome in his townhall meeting answering questions from the crowd.  Too bad MSNBC tv and David Gregory aren't smart enough to keep covering it so I have to watch it on cnn (fox lite).

In Obama We Trust!
Oh no. His comment that he isn't a miracle worker is going to upset a lot of republicans that were convinced he was the next messiah. Those republicans keep talking about worshiping him and the fact that he is the One!

Scandalous!

lol
First 100 days, 2,000,000 jobs lost, 900,000 home foreclosures.  But since he saved 3,000,000 jobs based on the unread stimulus plan and another 9000,000 homes he must be doing a heck of a job.
I'm not a miracle worker,” Obama declared, after saying he’s not "content" when workers are out of jobs, some don’t have health care and the U.S. is not leading the world in developing 21st Century solutions to energy.

How can he be a miracle worker when the republicans are fighting him all the way, i say yes he is, its a miracle that he has gotten as much done to date.
But, it's been almost 100 days, and your country is not coming back to you. She's found somebody new. And, I hate to tell you, it's a black guy. <<<

Now THAT is funny! Hope you don't mind if I use it now and then!!

Thank heavens for people like Jawillie, Ron from Indiana, Pat from Boston, that Feisty lady, Claire from MO and the fan from Nashville, among others. Without you and others like you, I'd go nuts reading this blog. After being a part of this blog well over a year, I feel I've stumbled into the wrong place: it's suddenly been inundated with right wing crackpots, who list their daily Obama complaints as though they thought them up all by themselves. They take pot shots without ever putting forward a sensible point, and certainly aren't clever. Sometimes I think it's one or two people, the thoughts are so "randomly similar!" So THANK YOU to those of you who hang in here long enough to post something readable--and often quite funny!
What is the matter Barack?

I thought if you osculated the gluteus maximus of banana republic dictators, Arab sheiks, and our terrorist enemies and then gave them millions in foreign aid, flying around the world at great taxpayer expense with a huge carbon footprint, making self-effacing remarks about America’s place in the world and demeaning the Office of President of the United States by pandering to the “Blame America First” crowd, everyone would love us.

What went wrong?

By the way, where is my energy rebate check?
Pat Boston Ma: I share your optimism.  Our President is doing a great job.  He will continue to work for the change he talked about on the campaign trail.  Actually, in about a year from now the economic turn-around should be well underway. His next biggest hurdle will be the torture issue. Then Iran.  We are soo lucky to have him as our President.

You are right. The conservative element of the Republican party will be out of power for a long, long time.
I've lived all over MO, and people all over the state pronounce it "Missour-uh". PUH-LEAZE!
Obama is a miracle worker.  He has the country feeling better and willing to work hard to turn the country around without any help from the reps.

Could you image what could have been accomplished WITH help?

Mr. President, please keep up the good work.
Yes, he inherited these problems many years in the making. Yes, some existed before Bush. The difference is he is taking action where Bush did not.

Of course the vitriol will start rolling from the right. They are so pathetically desperate I almost feel sorry for them....almost.

Quit crying about your energy rebate check.

You didn't do anything to earn it.

LOL

Wait… what’s that??  Say it isn’t so (sarcasm intended)!

I just want to know where the etiquette ‘police’ where the last 8 long years.

Anyone remember nucular?  Give it a rest for cryin out loud!
What...Obama is not a miricle worker after 100 days in office with the worst Economic Downturn since the Depression my mother was a child in....!!??  Pinch me...a President with some Class, that tells the people like it is....!!
LB:  Yes - thank you!

Case in point:  "Still Waiting for My Check"
If you call this Obama Economy a success, I hate to see your defination of failure.

How many Millions of Americans must lose their jobs before the Obama Media stops calling it a success?

Does Pontiac think its a success?

Pontiac Died on Obama's Watch!!!
Hummer Died on Obama's Watch!!!

Great Success Obie !!!!!

I'm Sure Iran, N. Korea, Cuba and Venazuala think he is doing a great job - but their are bias since they are his new buddies.
Bush had 6% unemployment and they called it a failure!

Obama has 10% unemployment and MSNBC callis it a success.

No Their not Bias?
Are they?
Not a "Miracle worker"? Funny. Obama accomplishments to date - none. Unemployment is out of control, just as the deficit is out of control. Obama is not happy with either? Don't see why not - he's the one causing both of them.

But hey, Obama is popular, and that's all the really matters, right?

"reigns," not "reins"
He may not be a miracle worker but I am extremely proud of what President Obama has accomplished in his first 100 days.  With everything on his plate, he has done extremely well.  The icing on the cake would have been if the Party of No had been cooperative during the first 100 days since we are all in these dire circumstances together and constituents come first over politics.
That's right Mr. President strighten it. No you are not a miricle worker and I appreciate you doing such a wonderful so soon. Some say that you are doing to much. I say you are doing what other politicians and past Presidents could have done.

They've gotten us so accustomed to draging their butts until the next election cycle is almost upon them before they start showing any evidence of movement on any issues...(politics) that you are sacring the hell out of everyone.

You are doing what you said you would do and Washington and the media is not ready for you. It just goes to show you that we've been had . We have been programed so badly into believing that it takes four years to keep a campaign a promise, that you are scaring hell out of some of these reportes and politicians.

BTW....whay didn't some of the experts run for office????
In this afternoon's edition of "Hope or Hype" the Obama Justice Department has fought to retain most of the Bush-era powers governing enemy combatants and surveillance. They've embraced the Bush-Cheney position that the State Secrets Privilege bars the courthouse door to litigants who claim they've been harmed by warrantless wiretapping.

Worse, according to constitutional lawyer Glenn Greenwald, the Obama DOJ has gone even further than the Bush team, arguing that "all claims of illegal government surveillance are immunized in the absence of 'willful disclosure' to the public of the intercepted communications."

So even though loons on the blogoshpere and folks such as Maddow and Dolberman jumpt for joy and throw around pixie dust and daisies when discussing the closing of Gitmo, some realites remain. Perception vs. reality.

Believers in the 4th Amendment and civl liberties should be unsettled.
Obama's first 100 days may be accurately described as 'against all odds'.   His efforts to accomplish the impossible have been meant with opposition from the GOP at every turn.  In spite of this, his brilliance, eloquence, dignity and leadership have prevailed, raising our country out of the quagmire and tackling the problems we have which have long been ignored.
The president has done a remarkable job his first 100 days even if he is not a "miracle worker".

It is fascinating to listen to the talking heads on ALL Cable ALL Day averring that President Obama "should have done this or that" as if they are an expert on anything! Where were these idiots when ALL of the mistakes were being made.

Beginning with the illegal war in Iraq and the financial collapse of Lehmans, Merrill Lynch, AIG, et al. It was GREED that was at the heart of everything that brought this country to it's knees.

To those who say "the president has too much on his plate, domestic agenda is too ambitious" you need to be reminded that none of this stuff would have to be done if GW had not been at the ranch for 8 years!

The conventional wisdom is the president will have at least one year to get a handle on the economic mess. After that, the public will begin to blame the Obama administration and Bush will no longer be part of the discourse. With that said, the president has to do a lot and do it in a hurry.
