Ad urges Pawlenty to certify Franken

From NBC's Mark Murray
The folks at the liberal group Americans United for Change say they're running a TV ad in Minnesota to put pressure on GOP. Gov. Tim Pawlenty to certify Al Franken (D) if he remains ahead of Norm Coleman (R) after the Minnesota Supreme Court considers the case.

"Most Minnesotans -- including Republicans -- believe that once the Minnesota Supreme Court rules, it will be time for Gov. Pawlenty to do his legal duty and certify Al Franken as our senator," the ad goes. "But the national Republican donors don’t want Minnesota to have its rightful representation in the Senate... Call Gov. Pawlenty... Ask him to put Minnesota’s interest ahead of political ambition."

I envision John Cornyn and Norm Coleman and all their lawyers in the recount process roaming around like the Daleks from the old "Doctor Who" series...

"OBSTRUCT!  OBSTRUCT!  WE MUST CONTINUE TO OBSTRUCT!"

Thanks, Norm...every circus needs a clown!
Gov. Tim Pawlenty, stop being B.O. Plenty and certify
Al Franken. You shouldn't allow the GOP to end your political career. Listen to what your Chairman Michael Steel said earlier this morning. Be of a contrite heart and certify Al Franken, just wishful thinking.....
Pawlenty is one republican who does what he is told to do,So for all of you who think he is his own man, think again. He did want the senators seat after Paul W plane went down,he was told to back off by non other then,Dick Chaney,Dicky knew Colemen would be a bigger push over then Pawlenty. So if anyone thinks Pawlenty will sign this with out approval from K street you are dreaming.Besides he thinks he has a shot at the CIC,he did carry McCains bags for the summer,I guess he's  ready.
Good, maybe some pressure ads will do some damage to the GOP's tactics.  Even MN republicans must see Coleman for what he is.  Nice to read a MN citizen's comment about Pawlenty.  It would seem logical that Pawlenty would sign if the MN Supreme Court rules in Franken's favor or risk his own future but apparently logic is not in the GOP dictionary.
Must get clearance from limpbag before I certify!
This ISN'T Rocket Science

From Washington Monthly:

'...Paul Ryan: "Most Of Us Think" Norm Coleman Has Lost Senate Race (VIDEO)

In an interview with Katie Couric on the CBS News webcast after Obama's press conference Wednesday, Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.) said he doesn't hold out much hope for Norm Coleman in the protracted Senate race in Minnesota.

Discussing the significance of Arlen Specter's defection to the Democratic party, Ryan said, "This is the 60th vote."

"If Al Franken wins," Couric offered.

"Yeah, and most of us think that that's gonna happen," Ryan said...'

Thje Scam is OVER !!
EVERYBODY KNOWS Coleman LOST !!
funny that they say "don't mess with Texas" but it's OK for "texas to mess with MN" - ROTFLMAO - GOP is RIP - party of NO - part of tax cuts for top 1% - party of Hoovernomics - party of Gypocracy...time to sod off and go away...
Pawlenty will not depart from what the repubs tell him to do, and we will all just have to have more patience and let this play out through the courts.  I say this with the hope that Minnesota and the country is mad as heck that he does not have the integrity of stones to do what is right by Franken and the state.  He, Coleman, and the GOP can kiss their chances goodby for winning in Minnesota's elections for a long time.  They have caused the electorate undue embarassment and delay of a second representative.  I would never be able to forget that, if I was one of them.
jesse St.Paul Minnesota:

You are right as rain, if Paelenty was man enough to stand on the right principles and be the governor of the people he would certify the vote for Franken. It would be what is best for Minnesota. I use to live in Minneapolis, loved the city and it's people and I really do feel sorry for the residents of the state.

Money is tight enough for every state and to think that he is holding out on a pipe dream just for the sake of the party he represents is disgraceful. I do pray that the Minnesota Supreme Court denies the request of Norm Coleman and do the right thing for the citizens. You all need to be represented. Taxation without representation is not a good thing.
so let's try to be a little more intellectual in our disagreements (that goes for everyone!).

Jesse,
I'm no Pawlenty fan but your post makes no sense, and is factually inaccurate! Senator Wellstone's plane tragically crashed less than 2 weeks before the general election. Coleman was already the GOP candidate, whether Pawlenty had wanted the seat once Senator Wellstone died is meaningless, and Karl Rove did not stop Pawlenty from getting involved, because there was no way Pawlenty could get involved, unless you're claiming Pawlenty used to be a Democrat, and wanted to run as the Democratic candidate. However that never happened, and had it Karl Rove wouldn't have been the one to say no Pawlenty you aren't going to be the Democratic nominee, that would have been the Minnesota DFL party leaders. If Pawlenty wanted to run in 2002, he would have had to run against Coleman in the primary many months before Paul Wellstone's tragic death. Karl Rove, et al had nothing to do with this race, or at least nothing to do with who was the GOP nominee after the Minnesota primary.
Here's why 60 votes DOESN'T Always do the trick

From HuffPost:

'...Cramdown Vote: Banks Bought Senators On The Cheap

Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) introduced legislation in the Senate Thursday which would allow homeowners in bankruptcy to renegotiate -- or cramdown -- mortgages with banks. His corresponding amendment to the House-passed bankruptcy reform bill is scheduled to be voted on at 2:30. (Read the whole thing.)

The measure is widely expected to fail, as crucial Democratic senators, whose votes are needed to overcome a filibuster, have publicly declared their opposition.

Democratic Sens. Ben Nelson (Neb.), Mary Landrieu (La.) and Jon Tester have indicated they plan to vote against the amendment. Sen. Evan Bayh (D-Ind.), who supported the bill last time around, expressed reluctance to back it this time. The banking industry has lobbied relentlessly against the reform.

On Monday night, Durbin concluded that the banks "frankly own the place."

The place came (relatively) cheap.

The banking and real estate industry has funneled roughly $2,000,000 into Landrieu's campaign coffers over her 12-year career, according to data from the Center for Responsive Politics. Bayh has taken in about $3.5 million. The financial sector is Nelson's biggest backer; he's taken $1.4 million from banks and real estate interests and another $1.2 million from insurance firms. Tester has fielded roughly half a million in his two years in office.

That's about nine million dollars -- far, far less than one percent of the amount taxpayers have spent to bail out the financial industry.

The opponents of the bill all say that industry influence is not the reason they'll vote against the measure. Rather, they claim genuine policy disagreements: concerns it could raise interest rates or increase defaults, for instance.

Story continues below
But Durbin's amendment is very narrowly tailored and would only allow mortgages signed before Jan. 1 to be modified -- meaning that interest rates on future loans should be unaffected.

We'll be watching the roll call and will post the rest of the no votes along with their take from the financial industry.

Durbin's office has also calculated, relying on data from the Center for Responsible Lending and Moody's, how many homes his bill would save and how much home equity it would preserve by preventing foreclosures, which damage entire neighborhoods.

Landrieu's Louisiana could see 12,651 homes and $500 million of equity preserved. Tester's Montana: 2,815 and $40 million. Nelson's Nebraska: 3,763 and $140 million. Bayh's Indiana: 27,960 homes and $590 million.

Across the United States, the measure is estimated to prevent 1.69 million foreclosures and preserve $300 billion in home equity...'

Pat Boston, Ma:  Where are you?  I miss your comments.

I am amazed how the GOP is eating their own.  Steele agrees with Limbaugh.  They are saying good-bye to Specter and also throwing John McCain and daughter Megan under the buss also. Why would anyone want to stay in that party?

The National Council for a New America is planning town hall meetings which will bring on more conservatives. Graham and Jindal lack leadership skills to create change. I think Rush knows that if he says anything about Senators Collins or Snowe, they too will leave.  All this happening and the real fight for leadership has yet to be fought. The wheels have fallen off the wagon.  Stack the GOP in the corner next to Chrysler and Pontiac.
Minnesota.

The only state who elected a wrestler as governor and potentially a washed up comedian as Senator.

Says a lot for what they got going there.
Not to belabor the point, but stupid tricks like this one are the reason Republicans are leaving in droves. It's OVER, Franken won, let's get to work.
Franken has won this election.  Norm Coleman is an embarrassment.  For further fun go to You Tube and watch George Galloway rip Norm Coleman a new one over the Oil for Food program.  If only George had been around in the days of McCarthy.
We all know that if it was Coleman in the reverse roll, you would be asking Pawlenty to certify him and push Franken out of the way.

NOT

Can we say One Way Street?
What is obvious and inevitable to the rest of the world may not be so to the Governor of Minnesota. That just makes him more vulnerable in any reelection bid or attempt at another office. The opposition will have Pawlenty of reason to ask people not to vote for him.
Minnesota.

I don't know much about Jesse Ventura but I do know that Al Franken is a graduate cum laude of Harvard.

You have heard of Harvard haven't you? It is one of the most prestigous schools in the world. Cum Laude is Latin for with praise. It is only on the diplomas of those who excell in school. It takes a smart person to be truly funny day after day week after week. Did you know that Minnie Pearl of the Grand Ol' Oprey had a PhD? Bill Cosby has a PhD too. So don't go around thinking commedians are stupid or uneducated. That isn't necessarily so.
Really Pete, Salinas CA?  How do you know that we in MN would not be pushing for our Senator to be seated no matter who was elected?  Taking a lot on yourself, aren't you?  By the way Pete..you bothered by Coleman's significant ethics problems, or is it all right since he is a Republican?  He is being investigated as I write this.
Did anyone see President Obama at last night's press conference? I understand he can't speak without teleprompters, so he must have done a heck of a job hiding the prompters and programing the answers before the questions were asked. He even had Helen Thomas laughing which scared me because that lady reminds me of a nun during detention.
Al, we need your sense of humor in the senate chambers. We need your vote when a new Supreme Justice is appointed. If there was an uproar over Sebelius being pro choice, just think about the proverbial poo poo on the fan when Souter or Ginsberg steps down. Hopefully the ladies from Maine will show up if needed.

By the way, there is no such thing as being pro abortion. Anyone who thinks this procedure has some kind of fan club has never known the depths of depression  every one involved goes through, and the medical personnel suffer right along with everyone else...
It's quite the entertainment watching the GnOP commit political suicide.
Hey wingnuts, get over it . Franken won!  Geeeeeeeees  you people are pathetic!!!
Pete, Salinas, CA - I wouldn't be mocking anyone for voting in a wrestler for governor - look who you voted in for governor; not to mention the other actor you all voted in & who now, according to repugs, was some great president - NOT!
Minnesotans - why aren't you concerned about not being represented in Congress?  When do you finally take to the streets and wave signs at Pawlenty?  It's understandable to wait for the decision of the Minnesota courts.  But they now have ruled.

Pawlenty is proving he's not worried about the citizens of Minnesota - just his own political hide.  Hoiw can the public keep voting for a guy like that?
Pete in Salinas -

Yes I would be asking the Governor to certify whoever won.  No matter what party.

The winner is the winner. The state courts agree.  We don't need 50 lawyers and judges to tell us what we already know.

When is all this snarky partisan stuff to justify something contrary to the public good going to subside?

It's MAY!  Move on!

Well played.  I think that they hired the lawfirm of Davros and The Master.  I think that they have Cybermen as subpoena servers.

Dorfy

Glad to hear you're not one of those whiny Demo's that moaned for 8 years about Gore/Bush.

Thanks.
I love the Republican claim that Al Franken is a "failed comedian."  The man has won multiple Emmys for comedy writing, was a powerful player on Saturday Night Live for many years, and wrote a New York Times bestseller.  There are very few comedians in the world who have had *more* success than this at what they do.

Perhaps instead of disparaging the career of someone who is successful by any reasonable measure, Republicans should look in the mirror and try to figure out why one of their flagbearers for the last year has been a guy who claimed to be a plumber but couldn't even get a plumbing license.
