Bunning calls McConnell a 'control freak'

From NBC's Doug Adams
The bizarre Kentucky Senate race took another wild turn today as GOP Sen. Jim Bunning once again blasted his fellow Kentucky Republican -- Mitch McConnell, the Senate's top Republican.

In a conference call with reporters, Bunning called McConnell a "control freak" and said McConnell's animus is an asset. "If Mitch McConnell doesn't endorse me, that may be the best thing that could happen to me in Kentucky." It should be noted that McConnell is the most popular Republican in the state.

Bunning acknowledged that McConnell has told him he's "too old" and can't win re-election in 2010. Bunning continues to insist that he'll seek a third term next year. But his fundraising has been abysmal, and early polls show that he would be trounced by Democrats in 2010.

Bunning's comments follow his barbs from two weeks ago, when he criticized McConnell's leadership. "Do you realize that under the dynamic leadership of our leader, we have gone from 55 [seats] and probably to 40 in two election cycles? And if the tea leaves that I read are correct, we will wind up with about 36 after this election cycle."

The feud between Kentucky's two Republican senators has been raging for weeks, with Bunning making a string of strange -- and sometimes conflicting -- statements. For example, he encouraged Kentucky Secretary of State Republican Trey Grayson to launch a Senate exploratory committee, even though he would be running against Bunning. And Bunning claims to be planning several fundraisers in the coming weeks, but won't give any details about them. He raised only $263,000 last quarter, for a race that is sure to cost upwards of $10 million.

As one long-time political observer noted -- while it's possible that Bunning, the former Hall of Fame pitcher, is crafty enough to have Grayson warming in the bullpen to keep other potential candidates out of the primary, Bunning has never shown that level of "crafty deception" in the past.

But wait, it gets better: Also potentially running in the GOP primary is ... Ron Paul's son, Rand Paul, an ophthalmologist who lives in Bowling Green, KY. Rand Paul says he is weighing a Senate run, and would likely have the support of his father's network of donors. Ron Paul raised $35 million for his presidential run last year.

Go Rand Paul go!  I certainly hope he enters and KY can see what actual conservatism looks like, and maybe, just maybe the party will begin to revert back to it conservative traditions.  I've had enough of these Facist Republicans and Facist Democrats.  It's like haveing to choose between Mussolini and Hilter.

Bunning's best pitch was his fastball.  Looks like he just threw another one "high and tight" on McConnell!
Every wing nut in there party is a control freak,or just freaks. They control there base with all the hate spew, and the hug up to the pointed heads. The party of No has a firm grip on the msm and FR.Chuck you are a republican talking points hero, they know what they have in you,Money.
Tell it like is Bunning, McConnel's leadership is like that of the Titanic captain. He is for Mitch, Mitch & more Mitch. The GOP had better look inside thier Soulless Souls, & look for some Real leadership, because they have none Now.

The MSM is kepping the GOP in the spotlight so they'll have something to write about, nothing more, nothing less. So pray to MSM God's that they'll continue to do this, along with Nancy Pelosi being a secret Islamist radical who missed her Flight on 911.

Gotta love these Dumba$$ Republican's. a Laughaday, ALL DAY LONG !
Thirty six sounds about right. Decades from now it may be about the same. Unless the GOPers move more toward the center. Where are you Ike? We need you.
This is the republican resurgance that I read about today.  Awesome!

I hope they don't beat each other up in the primary and Let a Democrat cake walk to victory.  oh Wait that is what I am hoping for.

I hope McConnell keeps to the 35 for 2010 strategy.
McConnell is not a control freak! He is a freak. I was taken back to read that he is the most popular Republican in Kentucky. Do those people ever listen to what he says, or read what ( oh, never mind!)
Rand Paul would win.
Did someone say tea?  Make mine jasmine.

They're both nuts!  Poor Kentuckians have a choice between bad and worse.
Ron Paul has brought more new material to the table over the past five years than any other Republican and yet he is ridiculed by the entire party. I am not in agreement with most of what he says, although deep down I have sympathy for libertanian views in general. We all would like less government, if possible, but then we would have no military, federal roads, medicare, social security, etc.

During the last presidential election, Ron Paul was much closer to the ideal on family values, having remained true to his only wife and their resulting family. To hear opponents such as three-time married Rudy Guliani (once to his second cousin), and Fred Thompson and John McCain with their trophy wife replacements, not give Paul his due was too obvious. Better open up the doors to new ideas, white boys.

The Republican Party has been guilty of do as I say not as I do for decades. The Moral Majority has been overcome with moral decay in their candidates, clergy and spokesfolks (see Rush, Newt, etc.) ever since they sought to punish the use of cigars in the oval office...
Mitch McConnell has done a great job as a leader of the pro-torture party. He did a great job supporting the Bush Administration as it destroyed the American economy and mis-led America to war. All the while spewing the hate and division America has so completely rejected. Now it's time for him to lead the last of the hard-core right-wing extremists into the political wilderness and let America, free of their poison, being to rebuild.
listen to Rand Paul speak, he is the new face of republican. Go Rand Paul !
How embarassing for my state.  Usually when we are in the national spotlight we have someone inarticulate, unedcucated toothless wonder talking about how "somebody done them wrong."  Sadly, our US Senators don't look or sound much better.
I love this stuff.  Bunning and McConnell are like "Dumb and Dumber" without the humor and charm.  You know the Republican party is in deep trouble when Kentucky is in play for the Democrats.
The political control freaks in this country are Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, all of which haven't got a truthful, respectful or sensible bone in their collective bodies.

Obama preaches to the crowd, telling them what they want to hear. Again, the NY Times snuffed an article linking Obama to Acorn in the present day. Obama can talk all he wants. The libs rats follow him like baby ducks behind their mama.

Pelosi, man, what's left to say that she hasn't said herself? Talking about digging your own grave and then laying in it. The GOP is more than happy to cover her up with dirt. Liar.

Reid. Ah, Harry, smug and dumber than a box of rocks in a minefield. Help this man find his way home.

Oh this is amusing… what better way to spend a lovely spring afternoon than to kick back – put my feet up – break out some chips & salsa (this deserves something better than popcorn) and WATCH the Party of the GEENOPEE – eat their own!

Folks… you can’t make this stuff up!  HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA make it stop my sides are hurting!
Rather like watching wild animals eat their young.
Is Feisty Redhead (May 19, 2:58PM) really Phyllis Diller?

All those HAHAHA's are Diller's "terrible laugh" trademark.

And if Diller is dead then it's really scary.

My apologies to Phyllis and her family, dead or alive. (Just found out she's 91)
From a previous post…

Yo B… remember me? You of all people shouldn’t be pointing out spelling errors – or have you seen the ‘light’ and now acquainted yourself with ‘spell check’.  Previous posts of yours read like a comedy of poor spelling & grammatical errors! But that’s what I love about people like you… you troll around here and THIS is the best you have to offer!

Thanks for the laugh though!
Fortunate Son;
You are ODing on Fox Noise.  Step away from the TV and go get some sun.  Rush has filed your head with lies, and you are listening like he is a god.
Fortunate Son ~ For a moment there I deluded myself into thinking you were talking to me.  It must have been the jasmine tea.

Hey, that rhymed.  Just another liberal, value-added service.

Could someone please pass the honey?
We have relatives who live in Lexington. Rand Paul would be a truly honorable person the people of the Commonwealth of Kentucky would be proud to represent them in the Senate. We wish Dr. Paul the best in his run for office.

All that can be said for you TUCKER… is you’re a legend in your OWN MIND!

But thanks for playing!!!
Rand Paul sounds like a great option for Kentucky.  I hope you are so fortunate.

Now if we could just find some reasonable MODERATES for Kansas.  I gave up wishing for liberals... moderates would be a welcome change from Brownback and Tiahrt!  Colbert was having a great time laughing at Brownback last night.  The guy's a walking joke.

Tim,

While I am appreciative of your defense of Ron Paul.  His ideas are hardly new.  He is an advocate of constitutional government.  In other words the original ideas that founded this country.  His current legislative effort HR 1207 "Audit the Fed" is a much more pro-active step to curing our economy than anything our current president has put forth.  Since it's inception the Fed has caused evey major economic problem we have had and then it's solutions only serve to make things worse.  By saying you disagree with Ron Paul you are essentially saying you disagree with the constitution.

As far as your over simplfied description of Libertarianism I feel I must come to my parties defense.  Libertarians believe in Natural Law.  It is what the declaration of independence was inspired by. It is what inspired the colonists to break free of the shackles of Britain.  We do not think that there should be no government at all, but rather that government should not exceed the restrictions of the Constitution.  That means you get a military and public roads, but no Social Security and Medicare (considering the monumental failure of both programs I don't know why anyone would shed any tears over them).

As far as the whole moral majority point you made.  We are on the same page there.  Moral are hardly an exclusively political issue.  In fact unless it is harming someone else we shouldn't be restricted in our actions by the federal government.
They are good at knock down drag 'em out fighting in Ky.
