RNC passes watered-down resolution

From NBC's Joel Seidman and Mark Murray
Backing away from an earlier attempt to rename the Democratic Party the "Democrat-Socialist Party," the Republican National Committee just passed a resolution saying the Democrats are pushing the United States to socialism.

The resolution stated "that the Democratic Party is dedicated to restructuring American society along socialist ideals," and it urged President Obama, the Congress, and the Dem Party to "stop pushing our country towards socialism and governmental control."

RNC Chairman Michael Steele issued this statement after the resolution passed: "The Republican Party strongly believes that a government which spends without restraint, incurs record amounts of debt, owns banks and makes cars is not the right kind of 'change' America needs. Republicans are united in opposition to the destructive policies of the President and Congressional Democrats. I am pleased that the committee adopted a resolution that focuses on the Democrats' policies and their destructive effects on America's economic engine, rather than attempting to rename our opponents. The RNC and the entire Republican Party is moving forward with strength and unity."

"Destructive Policies and Effects?" Excuse me!  Which political party is responsible for the meltdown?

It is not the one that is currently in power.....The Obama Admisistration and the Democratic Party.  The one that is in power because they were voted into power decidedly because of the destructive policies and the effects of the past administration and the obviously Dimmed Bulb GOP rubber stampers.

20% approval rating of the GOP Party is not something to be proud of.
Face it GOP. you are irrelevant
From MSNBC article: 'Norcross said it was a bid to raise awareness of the Democratic agenda so that Americans can be "properly fearful." '

......Properly fearful......

It would be nice to have a government or its policy makers not resort to 'causing fear' while governing our country.

Look where fear mongering has gotten us so far... we attacked a country that had nothing to do with 9/11... and we tortured... our great nation tortured which should have never of happened!  Because we were lead on 'fear'.

Stop with the fear mongering please.

That's exactly where your party of the GEENOPEE is these days!

Don't you ever get tired of bending over & grabbing your ankles?

Not for you baby. Shove it home!!
Where was Michael Steele and the republican "outrage" when the Reagan Administration ran up the national debt from $1T to $4 T in 8 years, and the Dubya administration ran it up from $5T to $10T in the last 8 years.  Such ridiculous hypocricy from the most "socialist" party of the two major one's in the United States, today!
This honor definately belongs to the Bush Administration for Nationalizing the Banks. How does everyone feel knowing that the feds can track you and your financial data in the glorious name of terrorist and funding terrorist activities. Such Bull...

They are the socialist.
My God - the democrats are only cleaning up the Republican's F-ing mess (yea, great policies there).  Incredible and irrelevant....
The Dem party is still fuming about the Bush Family Record. Running the country 12 years out of the past 20 is no small feat.

Taking it out on the conservatives is understandable when you've got nothing else to hold on to or hope for.
"The RNC and the entire Republican Party is moving forward with strength and unity."  says the Steeless!
It's our way, or the highway.

Great double smackdown, Ed!  Two Rons' for the price of one.  Ron Christi looked "stoned", he was so meek, and tried to shy away from commenting about Steeless!
Ron Paul is so animated that he seems almost likable, if he wasn't so confused about the Constitution.  Home schooling in Texas, yikes!  Maybe a lot of Texans are already home schooled, for idiots like Bush, Delay, Perry, etc. to find fertile ground.....perhaps a lot a youngsters will be home schooled if that gun-packing stuff gets passed!

You made nice, Ed...Ron Paul says to be friendly!
All that has happened is due to the flagrant abuse of "free" market capitalism. What the Republicans want is laisez fair government. That's a do nothing government. It didn't work the first time around and the Republicans have got us in this mess. There may be more government control on business at this point in time and it is a necessary corrective measure for the abuse we have suffered. The Republicans have tried for 8 years to destroy the country and sell it for the best bid. The best bid led us to bankrupcy. The party of "no" just keeps at it feeding lies to the country months after lies didn't work. When the Republicans show some responsability in government they will return to power...but hopefully with a vision of government that isn't from the industrial revolution and the giving over of power to the few and the wealthy as the rest of us suffer. We need balance and we will get it when the country gets back on track. There was no balance under the Republicans.
the gop need to shut up they already did a lot of damage to all of us they will not win by talking about the democratic party because we the people know all about the gop. chairman steele cant change the party because they tell him what to do. he is their little puppet
This is the dumbest thing I have seen in awhile. This reads like a Fox News story. I mean they passed a resolution saying the dems are socialists. How can anyone be proud to be apart of the republican party. This country needs opposing views but not ones passed on ideologies of fear. The repubs just don't get it and need to stop hanging around the bible thumpers or just go away. Bring back the whig party!
My God - the democrats are only cleaning up the Republican's F-ing mess (yea, great policies there).  Incredible and irrelevant....

Patrick, Boulder CO

Just what mess have the democrats cleaned up? And how much did it cost?
Way to shill for the bigots Mike. Tell us how cool David Duke is now.
Face it GOP. you are irrelevant
ttfn, Madison Wi

Got a nice little gun law passed today. Gitmo is still open. Prison "torture" pictures are still under lock and key. Iraq and Afghan wars continue. And the Speaker of the House is on the ropes. Doesn't seem to irrelevant to me.
As others have noticed, this GOP resolution would have a lot more impact if the Rethuglican Congress of 2001-2006 had made any effort to control federal spending under President Bush when he was in office. Instead, the GOP exercised no effective Constitutional oversight of Bush's budgets, and even voted to increase deficit spending by approving his plan to add Medicare Part D prescription drug coverage for people, without any way to pay for it. Coupled with tax cuts for the rich at a time of war, their degree of financial irresponsibility was truly shocking.

I'm glad they finally found religion on the subject of living within one's means, but even there they are ignoring the fact that most economists (including conservative ones) agree that more government spending is now necessary to stimulate the economy and get us out of this recession. How typical of Rethuglicans to run the country into the ditch out of blind greed and then blame the other side when it tries to clean up the mess they created. Is it any wonder that most Americans no longer bother listening to them?

I understand the party's chairman, Michael Steele, has said the time is over for the GOP to apologize for its mismanagement. Hmm. That was quick. I seem to have missed the fleeting moment when any Rethuglican ever accepted such responsibility or said "I'm sorry" for rubber-stamping the Bush/Cheney program of failure. Again, I have seen a lot of lame attempts to blame the Democrats instead. Geez, it really is like listening to children talking.

Democrats did plenty to help deregulate the financial industry and cause our current problems, but at least they are now trying to be part of the solution. A little more constructive dialog from the GOP, and less whining, would be more than welcome. Rather than trotting out tired slogans about so-called socialism, could they even try to offer us some new ideas?
Want a rename. How does the Republican Christian Fascist Party. It represents the far, far, far, religious right base with the neo-con leadership.

Hmmm... Elitist Always Cry Socialism!

“There’s class warfare, all right, but it’s my class, the rich class, that’s making war, and we’re winning.” - Warren Buffet

1) Upper Class... Empowered!
Deregulation, Global Economy, Tax Advantages.

2) Middle Class... Distracted!
Healthcare, War-on-Terror, School Prayer, Sex Education, Abortion Rights, Gay Marriage, Immigration.

3) Lower Class... Controlled!
Minimum Wage, Entitlements, Law Enforcement.

"America wasn’t founded as a nation where winner takes all but over the last couple of decades, that’s the way it has turned out. The central vision of “We, the people” has been distorted and manipulated by the powerful and privileged doing their damnedest as they wage class war to sustain their way of life at the expense of everybody else, even in this current crisis." - Michael Winship
Whoah - Bush got us into an even worse mess than we thought. I don't think the Stimulus package was big enough. We'd better hire more educators and health care professionals and raise fuel standards again.
I have neighbors and family facing unemployment and the GOP is using tax payer money to pay themselves to pass resolution calling the other party names.

How petty.

Steele is Stalin in Russian. For whatever it means.

No one wants the government in their business, private or public and in personal lives but when people cheat, are greedy, and are irresponsible citizens they have no choice for protection of the public from such people.

If bankers, for example, weren't so greedy there would not a be need for TARP or regulations.
i cant believe we pay people to waste their time like this
Joe the non plumber was the first person I heard use this term during his 15 minutes of fame during the fall campaign after he asked President Obama a question in Ohio. He said President Obama's response sounded like socialism. Then Palin started using the term during the campaign and Republicans started using it. MSNBC please do a fact check on this. I sure wish Chris Matthews would discuss this, I love his show. Do Republicans realize they are following in Joe the non plumbers footsteps. It is no wonder the party is in such terrible shape.
Unfortunately we are not headed toward democratic socialism; we are still dominated by a corporate culture that privatizes profits and spreads economic catastrophe/losses to everyone else to pick up the tab.  Yep, the GNOP'ers have it wrong again!

Yes, I think I just wet myself a little!

What's next...

..."Purple Nurple"?
..."Indian Burn"?
...wedgie?
...noogie?
...swirlie?

When asked to offer any kind of alternative to the administration's policies, the G-NO-P offers us none and resorts to name-calling.  Awesome!

"The RNC and the entire Republican Party is moving forward with strength and unity."

Apparently, that memo has not reached the desks of Mitch McConnell and Jim Bunning...

...or Olympia Snowe...

...or Susan Collins...

...or Arnold Schwarzenegger...

...or Colin Powell...

...you get the idea.
Michael Steele is the wrong man, in the wrong job, representing the wrong people, at the wrong time.  He should resign and save himself further embarrassment.  (I know he's got brains; he used to be a pretty good guest on Bill Maher's show.)

What a dumb, meaningless resolution.  What a waste of their time.  If they're EVER going to get back on track, the Regional Party of "No" is going to have to do some heavy-duty soul searching. Wasting time with this nonsense just puts off the inevitable.
"......Properly fearful......"

Right....Republicans talk like plantation owners who want the middle class to do all the work, but get  none of the profits.  Meanwhile, keep your heads down and don't dare speak out when the Repub thugs take people to the whipping shed.  Try to help your brother who falls in the field, and Repubs want to crack a whip on ya.
If the GOP is serious, they should try to get rid of entitlement programs like Social Security. I mean completely do away with them. Let's see them run on that in 2010 and 2012. The GOP can't have it both ways, labeling the Dems as socialist but not calling for the removal of specific programs that many Americans favor. If you're going to take a stand, take a stand. Didn't Steele call for bravery? They should own their statements and take them to their logical conclusions.
Did Mr. Steele not notice that Lehman Bros. crashed, AIG was about to, we weren't going to be making ANY cars as GM, et al. were staring into the abyss and the 'ECONOMIC ENGINE' was sputtering to a halt??
Keep this up. We all do need a laugh in such times and since you have NOTHING ELSE TO DO these days...
(And since when can a party vote to re-name a party that is NOT theirs to re-name?)
Aren't those LEMMINGS heading over a cliff moving...
FORWARD WITH STRENGTH AND UNITY??
Republicans claim "that the Democratic Party is dedicated to restructuring American society along socialist ideals," but this is an illusion. Anything less restrictive than banning abortions, preventing gay marriage and stacking the deck in favor of Big Business seems like big goverment to these narrow-minded politicians.

The truth is that one of the Government's primary roles is to "promote the GENERAL welfare." This means acting to create a healthy American society physically, economically and internationally. The GOP has failed miserably in all of these areas.

Democrats are not seeking "socialism," they are attmepting to help the country recover from rampant, "survival of the fittest" Capitalism.

Stop this ridiculous strategy of attacking the President, the Speaker and the Democrats. Why don't you GOPs stand for something, like Honesty, Integrity, Cooperation or - dare I say it - "Christian" behavior?

I am beginning to wonder if these Republicans are not really "wolves in sheep's clothing." The Bible warned us about these people. I refer to them as "GOPs from HELL." You definitely know them "by their fruit."

Those repubs can say whatever they want.  Just look at the poll numbers.  The R's are becoming more shrill as they contract.  Every news source except for those like Fox speak about the R's being in a death spiral.  The few R's left may feel unified, but they sure don't look so strong to the rest of us.
Fair swap – the Dems adopt "Democrat Socialist" when the GOP chooses to call itself the National Socialist Party
O.K. Repubs, I'll see your Democratic-Socialist and raise you a Republican-faciast.
Oh, and please return the trillions the Bush boys squandered so Obama can at least start out even.
Thanks,
kat
