Prop 8 upheld by Calif. court

The other news this afternoon, "The California Supreme Court today upheld Proposition 8's ban on same-sex marriage but also ruled that gay couples who wed before the election will continue to be married under state law," the L.A. Times writes.

Gay rights activists have already signaled they might bring their own ballot initiative next year to overturn Prop 8. It passed with 52% last November, and recent polls suggest that a re-vote could be just as close.

Interestingly, the sole dissenter in the 6-1 decision was Carlos Moreno, who had been identified as being on Obama's Supreme Court short list.

The founding fathers of the United States of America set up this country as a representative democracy (or constitutional republic) in the Constitution, not as a direct democracy of the people. This was a clear and purposeful move to protect the liberty of a minority from a tyrannical majority. A vote of the people on issues of rights is actually against the will of the founding fathers and intent of the Constitution of the United States of America.
The majority of people voted and that vote has been affirmed. We do not believe homosexuals should be married. Its plain wrong and detestable.
Glad I live in Texas.
People wonder why California will be bankrupt come July. Maybe the state is full of ignorant people who throughout the years vote in referendums? For all white males and right wing religious nuts I pity them because they are struggling w/ their sexuality that they have to convince themselves they're straight and have to resort to hate and gay bashing. Is their any reasons why African American women are now the most effected w/ the HIV and Latin men pretend their macho and ladies men. When is this country going to wake up and not allow the majority to deny the minority equal protection under the law and life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
For all white males and right wing religious nuts..

White males and conservative Christians are a minority in Califoria. Stop punishing minorities you hateful Dems!!!!!

SORRY!  I meant desegregation!
Injustice has been upheld and it is injustice that will not prevail and as unfortunate as it may be,  Proposition H8 has made our cause far more stronger nation wide than anything has in the past 10 years.

So good job right wing wackos,  you made our job much easier.  Look forward to more same sex marriage victories in the future,  Next State:  New Hampshire.  EQUALITY FOR ALL <3
Hey James... I think YOU are "plain wrong and detestable."  How about we start an initiative to get rid of YOU?  Majority vote rules, remember????
