Obama agenda: Viva Las Vegas?

The Las Vegas Review-Journal previews Obama’s event today in Las Vegas. “The president is scheduled to hold an event touting the effects of the federal stimulus package this morning at Nellis Air Force Base, where he also will tour a solar energy installation.”

The Las Vegas Sun, meanwhile, notes that Obama didn’t mention the controversy surrounding his remarks back in February that companies receiving taxpayer help shouldn’t take trips to Vegas on the public’s dime. “President Barack Obama's speech at a Harry Reid fundraiser Tuesday night made no reference whatsoever to the remarks that sent Vegas boosters -- and Mayor Oscar Goodman in particular -- into a fury a few months ago… Local tourism officials and elected leaders, led by Goodman, said that the comments, regardless of context, created the perception among the public that the city was off limits. Notably, they have offered little to no evidence that declining business is related to the president's comments.”

They’re not the only ones who are unhappy… "Some California Democrats are upset with President Obama for skipping past the state’s Central Valley, devastated by foreclosures and high unemployment, as he heads to a $3 million Hollywood fundraiser Wednesday night," The Hill writes. "'He’s not showing us any empathy,' said Rep. Jim Costa (D-Calif.), who endorsed Obama over then-Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) in the Democratic primary last May. 'He told us he would visit the heartland of California. He’s coming again and he’s not doing so.'"

Last weekend myself and I friend attended a concert here in Vegas where I live and I'll tell you what, there was sooooo many people in downtown Vegas.  It was great to see people are not staying away.  My thinking is our City did well this last weekend.  Mayor Goodman blew out of proportion what Pres Obama stated, we all know that.
Did Obama spend his own money in Vegas or waste more of America's money?
President Obama isn't the one who trashed Vegas's economy, that dishonor goes to the bushwhacker who bushwhacked our country's economy as well as the world's.  I'm sure that Vegas will recover as Obama's recovery plan helps the whole country get over being bushwhacked for 8 years.

The Central Valley shouldn't whine that Obama isn't visiting them instead of Tinseltown.  We're not getting to see him here in the Salinas Valley either.  Just be glad that he's in our state drumming up lots of money for Democrats to whip the evil elephants in 2010.

In Obama We Trust!
Well, cry me a river! The President has a busy schedule and is using his time as wisely and expediently as possible. The President can't be held hostage because you cast a vote for the most capable person to lead the country. It's only been five months since he was sworn in and his plate is a bit full these days.

Even though he is expected to be a magician, and Superman and he is, afterall, only human.
So Obama is in Ls Vegas at a fundraiser, then he's going to California for a fundraiser.

North Korea is threatening to go to war with South Korea, and has had more underground nuclear tests.

hello-Obama-that three a.m phone call came in-and telling them that they have been naughty does not seem to have had any effect.  You might want to try something else-like DEALING WITH THE PROBLEM!!!!

He's out of his depth, and we are in danger as a result.
No Joe, All Blow
So are you saying Bush did a better job?
He did nothing with North Korea when they fired missiles, he took us into a war in Iraq with lies, he stopped chasing Bin Laden who is still free, he lied to Congress and tortured! Wow what a record!
President Obama has just started and it seems as though his relations with China and Russia are working to help put pressure and real sanctions on North Korea. Pleas quit drinking the right wing koolaid and taking stupid pills. America 60% are on President Obama's side and you and your kind are slipping to under 20%. Don't go away mad just go away!
Did Obama spend his own money in Vegas or waste more of America's money? Bad Chihuahua (Sent Wednesday, May 27, 2009 9:36 AM)

At least it is being spent in the country this presidential term.

How many trillions did we send into that abyss of a war?
No joe, no bo, nj
Get a life. He's out of his depth?  Please.  The three a.m. phone call did not come in.  N. Korea's actions, while illegal under international law, do nothing to pose imminent danger to the U.S.  Keep your misguided fears to yourself and stop mongering on blogs.  Just curious, how would you deal with the problem?  Bomb N. Korea?  Get a life.
No matter what our president does, the right wingers will attack. Where were they when our country was falling apart under Bush and the republicans? It is called selective memory.
Are we asking too much to hope one day our politicians will unite for the survival of our country? That they will do the job they were elected
to do? That our country and it's citizens receive priority over party first, politics as usual?
We were once considered the greatest country, but
no longer, as many mistakes have been made. We must right the wrongs, regain our integrity and honor and show the world we will once again become the Great United States of America.
The Central Valley is not Obama's problem. The Ivy league banking regulators Bush appointed who don't know crap from shinola were the problem. Along with Washington's insatiable appetite for money, most of which comes from California taxpayers. California would be far better off as its own country, rather than supporting the bloated federal government. So stop whining about Obama, he's got his plate full.
no joe, no bo, nj

Your fear mongering isn't working man, your the only one scared. Isn't it time for you to go listen to Limbaugh? Wouldn't want to miss your talking points today, you wouldn't have anything to say tomorrow.
hey no joe....we certainly are in danger, and this idiot of a pres.is doing all he knows, and that is campaigning full-time. N Korea has thumbed their noses to him,and flipped him off. They know he is a pu**y lib that poses no threat to them what so ever! And Iran knows the same.We are screwed.
No joe - perhaps President Obama should have done what Newt suggested last month when North Korea launched (unsuccessfully) their missile towards the Pacific, to shoot it down with our star wars anti missile system, a comic book, phantom program from the Reagan era. Maybe Newt was just trying to give the out-dated program some new momentum, that would only cost us another $2-4 trillion. This time, let's get the help of those in the immediate vicinity, China, Japan and South Korea, instead of going it alone.

We are in new territory. The economy is not only still contracting, but we have actually seen a 12 month period of deflation (.2%), for the first time since the first Eisenhauer administration. This is more dangerous that the predicted result of the stimulus, inflation. For all of those with debt in this country, or the vast majority, that means money will become more expensive, thus make it more difficult to pay off debt. President Obama is doing the responsible thing, slowly trying to kick start the economy back into gear.

Let's face it folks, all of us are going to have to cut back on our plans, Democrats, Republicans and even us we'uns. That means military spending, new parks, public services and non-essential educational programs, such as athletic teams, field trips and more.

Let's all tighten our belts and take this as our parents and grandparents did during the second world war. We can come out of this better than we went in if we are willing to make sacrifices and stop the infighting.
I'm a Nevadan, and I'm not the least bit concerned about Pres. Obama's Vegas remark...I'm too consumed at the moment by the embarrassment and shame of Gov. Gibbons' behavior and his attitude toward the POTUS. Gibbons has given his state a black eye and has most likely dashed any chance of Nevada benefitting from stimulus money. Whatta maroon!

Joe, you do know that this stuff has been going on long before Obama came into office. So why wasn't something done before? And, by the way, what would YOU do in this situation? I am not being sarcastic. You seem like a bright fellow. Obviously you know more than the diplomats of countries around the world including our own. So just what would you do, seriously now, what would you do in this situation?

How true, how true.....
"The last guy who ran this place, didn't know what to do with it. If you think this country is bad off now, just wait till I get through with it"
Grouch Marx - Duck Soup
Well, we all respect Obama and his first lady, but if he only puts $35,000,000 into making harlem black children Harvard grad material and hurts the Las Vegas ecomony- he is a racist. It is just as racist to hurt a white as a black. There are all races hurt in Las Vegas by his comment to not go to Las Vegas when there were more FORCLOSURES THERE THAN ANY WHERE IN US. THAT IS WHY HIS VP Biden MADE A TRIP THERE PRIOR TO HIS ELECTION--  REMEMBER OBAMA???
You need to help them not turn your back because you are too focused on other adgendas.
If they loose their homes as so many of them have, it is not helping our economy.
Thank you, please help
