Obama agenda: Cyber czar, health care

“President Barack Obama will announce on Friday the creation of a ‘cyber czar’ position, stepping up his administration's efforts to better protect the nation's computer networks,” the Wall Street Journal reports. “The cybersecurity chief will report to both the National Security Council and the National Economic Council, a compromise resulting from a fierce White House turf battle over the responsibilities and powers of the new office.” More: “Mr. Obama won't announce on Friday the person who will fill the new job. That isn't expected for at least a few more days.”

It’s now or never on health care, Obama said yesterday, per the AP. “President Barack Obama warned Thursday that if Congress doesn't deliver health care legislation by the end of the year the opportunity will be lost, a plea to political supporters to pressure lawmakers to act. ‘If we don't get it done this year, we're not going to get it done,’ Obama told supporters by phone as he flew home on Air Force One from a West Coast fundraising trip.”

The Boston Globe front-pages, "Obama tells Israel to halt expansion." The paper adds, "But hours before the two men met, the Israeli government flatly rejected the demand. Spokesman Mark Regev said that "normal life in those communities must be allowed to continue," including some construction. The exchange has set the stage for one of Obama's toughest foreign policy challenges. As he prepares to fly to the Middle East next week to give a speech on his policy toward the region and US-Muslim relations, it seemed clear yesterday that his administration is willing to risk prickly relations with one of the closest US allies -- and possible anger from some Jewish voters -- to try to create a Palestinian state."

The AP called it Obama "deepening his involvement in the quest for a difficult peace." Asking for concessions from both sides: "Obama pushed Palestinians for progress, too, including a direct call for Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to reduce anti-Israeli sentiment in schools and mosques." The AP gets Abbas' reaction: "Abbas told The Associated Press after the session with Obama that no meetings with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu were on the horizon. Abbas said he is meeting his commitments under the road map and that Israel should do the same."

With the president today attending a hurricane preparedness meeting at FEMA, the group SmarterSafer.org is urging Obama to make mitigation the centerpiece of federal efforts managing hurricane and disaster preparedness. “For decades, federal policies have incentivized construction in hurricane-prone, environmentally sensitive areas,” the group says in a press release. “It’s time to update these policies to emphasize smart mitigation measures that protect the environment, put Americans to work and make current coastal residents safer.”

It's only fitting that Obama have a bunch of "Czars" seeing that he's running a socialist regime.
Nice way to dodge congressional oversite of approving administrative staff members. None of these so called czars Obama is appointing has to go through any congressional approval or have any congressional oversight.

Where's Nancy P. on this issue? She still in China telling the Chinese how to live their lives?
Soon enough we're going to need a Czar Czar. Or, is that Obama?
Surely, all of Osama's current problems are the fault of President Bush,...or is it that this Ghost Rider Empty Suit Messiah has no portfolio to deal with real world problems?  Once the hard, cold realities of a complex world come to bear on this greenhorn socialist, the magical mystery tour is over.
Cyber Czar?  That reminds me.  Whatever happened to the war czar?

Anyone know offhand?
Now there's a capital idea - protecting our cyber networks.  Too bad some idiot before him never thought to do it, but then the bushwhacker's administration never thought ahead and never figured out cyber technology so they could save their e-mails.  Okay they were just too dishonest to save their e-mails because they knew they had to get rid of their incriminating evidence.

Hopefully we'll get a smarter electricity grid that also is well protected from cyber attacks.

Prosecute War Criminals Bush and Cheney!
Go Lakers!
It will take Obama a few days to announce who the cyber czar is.  He's searching high and low for just the right person with absolutely no cyber or IT experience, similar to his automotive task force with no clue about the automotive industry.

Finally, someone in the white houise that understands technology. I am confident of the President's knowledge of technology that he will make an excellnt selecton.

Now that GWOT is losing believability and its ‘fear factor’ is fading, Obama TV presents GWON --- the “new and improved”, fear inducing, and liberty reducing,  global war on networks!

Obama is polishing the Apple of Empire for his off-screen overlords, financial patrons,  and only constituency:

While SUN Microsystems famously, and humanitarianly said, "The Network is the Solution", now the global ruling-elite 'corporate financial Empire' posing behind the facade of their two-party, 'Vichy' sham of democracy has arrogantly, aggressively, and imperially pronounced for itself (in secret) that, "The Network is the Battlefield."

The age of enlightenment that birthed the American Revolution seems to have come to an end, and the "new age of enlightenment" that George Lakoff so looked forward to in his fabulous "The Political Mind" has been strangled in its crib by an inhuman new age of technological Empire, thinly veiled behind the fading image of the once proud American democratic Republic.

Excuse me, but should not cyber security be part of the Department of Homeland Security?  Why all these overlapping layers of bureaucracy?
The way to stop Israeli expansion is to stop supporting Israel. Small as she is Israel is a tough little country able to take care of herself. If we use sanctions against her to get her to comply with the non expansion as we use sanctions against the other Middle Eastern countries to get them to comply with international desires maybe they'll do what we need them to do. That would be a step in the right direction toward a lasting peace between Israel and her neighbors.
Peace in Israel!! get real!  (it is not going to happen)

have you no faith?
I think he should choose a Navajo lesbian for this position.
On the health care debate, don't be duped by the administration's "clever" terminology attempting to avoid an abortion debate.  Bottom line, wherever you see "reproductive services" it means including ABORTION.  Obama and team don't want that debated, but it needs to be.  Why should everyone's insurance rates be higher because some want to end the life of their baby?  That's double BAD.
Seems to me that the cyber czar should report to the Attorney General since all the cyber activities that require this position are criminal.
On Sonia Sotomayor, she is unacceptable due to her decisions, while she was correct to dissent in a 1st Article case, Pappas v. Giuliani.  She SHOULD terrify us all with her decision in Maloney v. Cuomo where in she determined that the Constitution of the United States DOES NOT PROTECT AN INDIVIDUAL FROM CIVIL RIGHTS ABUSES BY THE STATE, ONLY FROM FEDERAL ABUSES!  So, it doesn't take much thought to understand that under HER interpretation all abortion foes need to do is ban abortion state by state.  As long as the federal gov doesn't due it, Roe doesn't apply as Roe is a "Constitutional" right only barring the FED from banning them.  Yes Maloney v. Cuomo was not abortion rrelated, but wake up stupid, if your rights aren't safe from the states, NONE OF YOUR RIGHTS ARE SAFE FROM THE STATES!

welcome to changeville
Czar - A male monarch or emperor. How is this an appropriate title for a U.S. government position? It's absurd. Please, please stop using it.
As usual, Obama is coming across to other countries as an appeaser, irresolute, and a coward.  It seems he is taking the side of the Palestinians and trying to force Israel into a situation which will reduce Israel's security and embolden Fatah to demand more than Israel should give.

And, Obama is not demanding very much from the Palestinians, even though the road map called for cessation of terrorist attacks on Israeli citizens.  And, by demanding an end to settlements in the West Bank combined with the unworkable "right of return" means Palestinians could live in Israel repossessing properties sold many years ago and removing Jewish families who have lived in these homes for years.  This is a demand of the Palestinians who could launch more terrorist attacks and, in effect, destroy Israel.

So, Palestinians could live in Israel, but Jews would not live in the Palestinian state. This means the Palestinians could control both Israel and the Palestinian state, and, in effect, this would be a single state solution in which Israel disappears which is exactly what Palestinian maps show.

But, if Fatah and Hamas join forces the whole situation will change and make Obama's strategy, if his approach can be called a strategy, completely pointess.

It seems the US is abandoning the only democratic country in the Middle East and opening the door to a possible nuclear war with worldwide consequences.
Very surprising. For a Bolshevik he sure likes Czars.

Whatever!

What ever happened to the war czar?

He's been all over the tv and radio this last couple of weeks telling everyone torture works.
The Chief Bureacrat wants abother CZAR...?

Have you tried using a small screwdriver to pry your Caps Lock key up?  If it's really that stuck may I suggest a new keyboard.

Yes, we're going to have pay taxes for a long time to pay off the debt that fake cowboy dumbya and his sidekick deputy Dick ran up by keeping the cost of the Iraq invasion off the books, wasting a surplus and destroying the economy and rewarding his posse with no bid contracts.
