Romney blasts Obama's 'apology' tour

At a speech today in DC sponsored by the conservative Heritage Foundation think tank, Mitt Romney called for increased defense spending, and also again criticized President Obama for going on a "tour of apology" while traveling abroad.

"It’s not because America hasn’t made mistakes -- we have -- but because America’s mistakes are overwhelmed by what America has meant to the hopes and aspirations of people throughout the world," he said, adding: "Britain’s Guardian newspaper noted that Mr. Obama has been more critical of his own country, while on foreign soil, than any other president in American history. That would be a most unfortunate distinction at any time."

Seeking to bolster his national security credentials, especially if he makes another White House bid, the one-term Massachusetts devoted much of his speech to calling for more defense spending. "We cannot allow the economic crisis to conceal the very real threats to our nation’s security," Romney said. "We cannot ignore the intentions of competitors who would replace America’s leadership with their own, and set back the cause of freedom."

In fact, Romney was fiercely critical of Obama's "domestic" spending at the expense of funding for national defense. "I fear ... that he will look to the military budget to find the biggest cuts and finance his domestic priorities.”

The potential 2012 presidential candidate detailed a litany of other criticisms of the Obama administration -- including its handling of North Korea. “Arrogant, delusional tyrants can not be stopped by earnest words and furrowed brows. Action, strong bold action coming from a position of strength and determination, is the only effective deterrent.”

After the speech, Romney spoke to reporters about GM filing for bankruptcy. He cited a November op-ed he penned advocating for bankruptcy and showed frustration that the action has taken so long and that the federal government has been a party to that delay. When asked if either the Bush or Obama administration were to blame for the drawn out bankruptcy, he expressed a hesitancy to "point fingers" but ultimately said, "Both."

Mittens is lost and begging for relevancy.  I am sick of his team bashing every single step.  Hey, Mittens, you lost to the 'family values' candidate.  You couldn't buy your way to the Republican nomination.  Why don't you become an observer for a change?

What a joke.  Just remember, you are defending a party that doesn't have a tent canopy large enough to include Mormons.  Nice strategy there.  I am stealing this from somewhere else, can't remember where:

The republican party doesn't need a bigger tent, they need a smaller clown car.

That pretty much sums it up.
"Britain’s Guardian newspaper noted that Mr. Obama has been more critical of his own country, while on foreign soil, than any other president in American history.

And why does Mr. Obama even have to try to regain respect for the United States of America around the world?......Because W and Dick f---d up this country more than any other President in US history! Period.
What good does it do to "defend" the country if there's no country left to defend?  We must keep the country safe, but our greatest investment must be on getting us back to a sound economy, with people at work, with reformed health care, and addressing our enery dependence on foreign oil and our environmental problems.
Go ahead. Apologize, and down your own country while abroad. That's like badmouthing your mother to the lady across the street who she doesn't get along with.

Can Obama sing? Maybe he should join the Dixie Chicks...
I guess I don't understand the teachings of Mormonism at all, but in the Christian faith Jesus taught to repent & ask forgiveness and that unless this happened the Father (God) would not forgive you. For the right to continue this argument is beside me, especially since we're supposed to be a Christian nation [a very popular argument used by the right-wing]. And Mitt wants to be president…

Here's to preaching one thing, but not being willing to practice it.
I forget - who is Mitt Romney and why do we give a "f" about what he says?

Honestly, we have approximately 4 years before the next Presidential election - is the media going to give every hoot and nanny the spot light every time they want to toot their own horn.

This is ridiculous - campaigning for a Presidential spot when the current one has just been filed – isn’t there an appropriate time for this crap?

I think it is dangerous and non-productive for a wannabe presidential possible candidate to be questioning every decision a setting President makes – just for the sake of exposure.

Really - it's only because of the media, that idiots like Romney get's this attention.

We need to focus on what our current President is doing - not giving media attention to people that want to "bite" from the current President's popularity.

Thank you and GOD BLESS AMERICA
Does this guy have a job or does he just spend his money running for President and going on tv.

Your party got first hand experience of what this meant last election.  House that seat on the S.S. GOP feel next to Newt and Rush?  You better start worry about bailing out the dingy you three are sitting in rather than what the captain of the cruise ship pulling you is doing.
Wasn't he rejected by his own party for McCain who also talked all the mistakes the US made in recent years.
President Obama has been more critical of our country that any previous President because no previous President had to follow President Bush - with his cowboy diplomacy, his pre-emptive wars, and his rapid destruction of the world economy.

I just love the right wing complaints about lack of action against North Korea. Where was this criticism during bush's Presidency as I seem to remember the development of nuclear weapons and their first test under bush. And while we are criticizing, what exactly would Romney do, invade North Korea and start a third war?

Finally, I love the constant prognosticators that know how President Obama is going to solve the deficit crisis. He's going to raise taxes on everyone. He's going to cut defense. It's funny that they can see the future and it is only the bad things that they see!
I saw Romney at a fundraising breakfast last week.  I always thought he was a little plastic, but he gave a great speech at that breakfast.  It was particularly good because he outlined the differences between the two parties with more clarity than I've heard anyone do in a long time on either side of the aisle.   I'm sure his being Mormon and rich will simply not do for those 'tolerant' liberals, but he was very impressive.

Go ahead, start with the criticism.  Won't change my opinion of him.
That does it.  Romney needs to get his facts straight before talking.  Pres Obama DID INCREASE military spending, it was simply shifted to fighting a different kind of war, you know, terrorism.  Typical GOP, spend more on defense rather than provide health care, education, roads, bridges for the American people.  Where does Romney plan to get all this extra money for his increased defense spending?  Maybe increase taxes?  As far as I'm concerned, they can cut more money from defense as soon as the economy gets better.

As for the rest of Romney's remarks, I disagree.  Pres Obama stated we've made mistakes but also criticized Europe for their anti-Americanism--it was never one without the other.  There's nothing wrong with admitting mistakes.  Bush led the Europeans and us on a wild goose chase for WMD costing billions of dollars and lives, America needs some humility on occasions instead of cowboy mentalilty overseas--and we're still fighting those two wars seven years later.  America NEEDS assistance from our allies in the battle against extremism if we are to succeed so a little humble pie apology could mend some fences--we can't do it alone.  It's not about popularity, it's about restoring America's badly damaged image.
Obama never "apologized" while on his European trip.

This is the typical GOP two-step.

Show me a quote from Obama that uses the word(s) "sorry" or "apology" or "apologize".

All Obama did was state truthfully that the US had made some mistakes over the last 8-10 years, and acted preemptively and unilaterally.

He also called out the mistakes of our allies and friends in Europe, as well.
Romney should just shut up.  Talk about a "wannabee"!  He's ridiculous
I don't think Obama's been critical of the U.S., he's been critical of the previous administration and they were down right unAmerican in their actions.
Mitt this should be so easy.  Just lead your followers to North Korea with a flag of truce.  Offer a promise of protection for Norh Koreas weapons and when they turn over their arms and surrender, you and your followers can slaughter them in cold blood.  That plan worked so well at the Mountain Meadows Massacre!  Besides, with your magic underpants, what are you afraid of?
What totally amazes me is the hypocrisy of the republican party. They crucified the Dixie Chicks for daring to say anything bad about George Bush, since that was extremely unpatriotic and unAmerican, yet Cheney and Limbaugh can run around calling him a racist and pretty much accusing our President of treason and no one says a word.  It's amazing. And now they're mad because our President dared to admit that America isn't always right?  Give me a break.  It's arrogance like the republican party has that the majority of America has rejected.  When are they going to get it? Do as I say and not as I do.  Been there, done that.
He's apologising for the things Bush and the GOP did, we know the Republicans never will. Romney is a pathetic panderer, all the top GOP people are slime. Why don't you go stir up some more hate, only thing your party seems to be able to accomplish these days.

Most liberals I know could care less about Romney's religion.  It's the right-wing of the Republican party who has problems with it--just ask Steele, who recently drew attention to Romney's religion as a reason that he couldn't win primaries.

As for being rich--well, we just elected Obama, who is a new millionaire (having written two best-selling books--by himself).

If you want to find intolerance, look within your own party!
Mittens, please give it a rest. Go sit down!
Go ahead, start with the criticism.  Won't change my opinion of him.

Not at all.  If you listened to his ideas, and liked what you heard, great.  Vote for him.  I happen to disagree with his stated policies (nothing against his wealth or religion), so I won't vote for him.  That's how this works.

I think that the last several years have demonstrated that speaking from a position of physical power wins you tepid support at best and is a good way to make yourself an island.

I am also mature enough to recognize that an admission of error is not necessarily a sign of weakness or betrayal, and that not all aggressive rants deserve a response.  Rather, I think that being an uncompromising righteous authority all the time is a waste of energy.

"It was the base that rejected Mitt because it had issues with Mormonism."

- Michael Steele, RNC Chairman (5/8/2009)
Those who are 'spellbound' by Mitt can continue to be swayed, but as long as he is a politician, looking to make points 4 years ahead of an election; criticizing our government, WHILE he's doing nothing to help the country; not involved in government or in any particular endeavor; not working to solve this country's problems, I don't give a da_n about what Romney has to say.
And for the rest of the story-----limpbag wants the President to fail which in turn actually would cause the country to fail, newtered states the next SCOTUS pick is racist, gingernut states the same.  Anything I'm missing so far?  Oh, bonehead enjoys the fact the he is leading a party which will not vote in favor of anything the President is trying to do to help the country and now we have mitt gotta have more wives critizing the President for trying to repair the damage done with international relations.  Do I have anything that states this party of NO is wanting to help the country?
So many haters out there! Your guy is in the white house, you own congress and you are still spewing hate, why? I believe that you don’t want or know how to be happy, let alone fair. I may be wrong you could be “happy haters”, now get out of your mamas basement and go find a job that has been created JUST FOR YOU.  But you better hurry I hear those job are going fast.
My perception of the vehicles is that they are crap and my first hand knowledge of the company is that they treat women like crap.

Clara, I assume you drive a foreign car, probably Japanese.

The Japanese are known for their politeness and courtesy. Just ask any US or Philippine veteran lucky enough to have survived the Death March of Bataan how polite the Japanese were. Or the hundreds of thousands of women raped and killed by Japanese troops in Nanking China in 1937.

So much for the US following Geneva convention when holding captured Imperial Japanese troops; see how much the Japanese reciprocated! Now drive off in your Prius Hybrid with the Greenpeace bumper sticker. Forget the millions murdered by Imperial Japanese troops.
Sounds like a massive bunch of sour grapes to us Mitt!  Bashing the guy who actually won is really bad form, especially for someone who is supposed to be so Christian... and has such a tidy hair-do.
I do not mind criticsm of the President's policies (I have criticized several myself).  However, in regards to the statement on North Korea requiring, "...strong, bold action coming from a position of strength and determination", tell us S-Mitty, what exactly does that mean?  Do you have any suggestions?  I'm sure the American people would love to hear them.  It's one thing to criticize.  It's another thing to offer solutions.  Constructive criticism, by definition, offers solutions.  Anything else is just rhetoric and, sadly, S-Mitty has done it again.
This is coming from a man who could not get the republican nomination last year.  Did he forget that Pres Obama has increase troops in Afganistan and asked for more money for the war.  He just wants to be heard.  Apparently he is just like a typical republican, ignoring the memo that we won the election on 11/4

I was going to post something, until I read your response.  It is far better than I could have put it, so I will simply add "here here!"
Obama really really really wants to be liked by Europe. And he wants the US to become as much like Europe as possible. I guess he forgot that this country was founded on the idea of NOT being Europe. We didn't declare independence from the Brits only to go out of our way to become just like them. And what's with all the Mitt bashing? If you don't care what he says why read the article? Funny how the slightest criticism of anything about Obama gets people into a tizzy. These are the same people who attacked Bush nonstop for 8 years and thought critcizing a President was a good thing.
It's kind of old news be Obama needs to be told off by all of America ... except those who are in bed with him.
As stated in the article Obama has been very critical of the United States I would like to know if the points of criticism were met with an idea of action to bring reform and correction.  I guess the question that arises in my mind is, "Does Barrack Obama really believe in this country?"  He sure is democratic with his outlandish government spending creating trillions of dollars in deficit made by band aid patched remedies.  Obama is a mystery to me I can't delinate the man or his intentions.  As for you bloggers reading some of the blogs you make me loose hope in the American person; cause all's I see is a bunch of people that want to slander and hate because of religion, idea, and thinking.  This country has lost the idea to build and grow to be replaced with bigotry and contention.  What God in their right mind would bless America?  I ask that we rise above ourselves look for the better as a whole and strive for a better community, nation, and world.
Other than to fill space why does the media pay any attention to what Mitt Romney says. I'm sure the last thing anyone wonders when they wake up is "gee..I wonder what Mitt Romney is thinking today". He was rejected in the GOP primary and unless he goes 100% militant(moderates need not apply) he won't survive the next.
I think Obama should be out there apologizing for what the thieves in New York (his supporters) have done. The rest of the country shouldn't take it so personally. Ask the left, nationalism is a bad thing. Don't forget to apologizes for the trash that comes out of Hollywood (his supporters again) too.
Bahahhaaaa
Romney sure does know how to gin-up the moron base.  Too bad that base is about as gutless and clueless as he is. President Obama did not go on an "apology tour" - he went on a fence-mending tour required as a result of the last 8 years of lies, deceit  and unchecked greed in the GOP.  Romney:  How about apologizing to the American people for the murder of 5000 young Americans who were sacrificed on the alter of greed and corruption in the ElephantCrap Party.
Remind me why I care what Mittens has to say?  Or Newt, or Cheney, or Rush, or Savage, or Coulter... or Cantor, McConnell, and Steele for that matter too while we're on the topic.
What "foreign policy credentials"? He has none and obviously little or no understanding of what Obama has said and certainly no clue about how our last president poisoned the waters for us everywhere in the world.  Has he just now figured out that they "made mistakes"?  I guess he was so focused on running for the WH (unsuccessfully) that he didn't follow the news for the last eight years.
Romney wants to increase defense spending hopefully to invest in a better prepared armed forces.  The lowering of standards for recruitment is lowering moral and causing early retirement of some very qualified servicemen that would normally train and pass the torch.  I have a family member that is retiring early because the new recruits continue with their street mentality while enlisted (no respect, professionalism, or discipline). It has been proven that a country that produces children that are overweight, uneducated, and gang bangers has a great impact on the recruitment process. So in the meantime hopefully he will focus on a quality education that promotes the value of nutrition instead of sodas and fast food (juices w/high fructose corn syrup), physical education instead of laziness, and a safe learning environment no tolerance for violence (being bullied has been accepted and ignored by the teachers and administration) in our schools. Building and investing in our defense is great but need you men and women of stature not criminals in our armed forces.
Someone tell Mittens that military spending has NOT been cut under Obama's budgets.  Instead, the spectacular rate of growth has merely slowed.  It is funny how the right wing suddenly embraces Keynes and fiscal policy when the decry how the non-existent cuts will cost American jobs.

Maybe Americans will take the Republicans a little seriously when they are honest, and acknowledge that they are really complaining that the military budget should continue to grow at the same rate that it did under Bush.

Another fact they ignore is that Obama CUT taxes, and the amount of the tax cut might even make Reagan blush.  Of course, tax cut was mostly for about 95% of Americans, not the top 5%, so I guess it does not really count.
Dear Mitt Romney.  Please shut up, cultist twit.
I thought it emboldens the terrorists when you speak adversly about the president, especially when it concerns national security. Oh yeah, that only applies when it is a republican president.
You know what I find totally amazing...all these repubs listen to Rush faithfully and he is the word of the party...the joke is that this man is a divorced...past druggie (supposedly)...yep this is the conservative good christian man you should all be listening too.  Get your heads out of your butts repubs..wake up.  Sorry but I dont think Obama ever did anything as bad as Limbaugh....the overweight drug hypocrite.  Pleaseeeeee.......
So far the Obama Presidency has been everything I hoped it would be and so as long as Obe keeps up his current tack, we'll have President Romney in 2012 so long as the Republicans don't repeat their errors in the primary from 2008 all over again, which they won't.

You watch, we only have two elections this year--the governorships of New Jersey and Virginia--and Republicans will win them both because all Obe's doing is running a toss left play after a sweep left play behind Reid, Pelosi, Dodd and Frank, who oddly have been hidden by the media the past two months, lol.
How can someone who has NEVER been included in on defense meetings and what is happening that only the top dogs know about, The republicans need to STOP criticizing and get off there high horses and give a plan that will work. How much charity besides the Morman church does Romney ever contribute to? When was the last time he took his wife on a date or walked the dog. We have the president the american people voted for. REPUKES go to North Korea.
Bottom line I think Romney Rove Limbaugh Beck they all just like to here there own voices.
