“Former Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) advised Republicans to stick to core principles of free markets, low taxes and strong faith to help them find their way out of the Congressional minority in a speech that lasted more than 45 minutes at Monday’s annual fundraising dinner,”
Roll Call’s Toeplitz reports. “Republicans raised $14.45 million at their Senate-House fundraising dinner, where Gingrich called for his party to be open to views from all over the political spectrum. ‘I am happy that Dick Cheney is a Republican. I am also happy that Colin Powell is a Republican,’ Gingrich said to a round of applause. ‘A majority Republican Party will have lots of debates between’ its members.”
The Hill has more: "… Gingrich said Monday that it was a mistake for President Obama to schedule dueling foreign policies speeches with former Vice President Dick Cheney. Speaking at the Republicans' 2009 Senate-House Dinner, the potential 2012 presidential candidate said Obama was overmatched and that the maneuver represented poor political planning by Obama’s political staff. '(Cheney) actually understands the issue,' Gingrich said. 'The great difference between Reagan’s rhetorical skills and President Obama’s rhetorical skills are that Reagan used his rhetorical skills to shine light on truths and facts, while Obama uses his to rhetorical skills to hide' from those things."
The New York Times: “Although Governor Palin did not speak, her brief walk-and-wave to her seat with her husband, Todd, before the event began generated a smattering of applause and put an end to the nagging question of the day: Just what was the deal with Ms. Palin and the dinner, and would she be making an appearance? She did, and when the crowd sat down to dinner after brief remarks by Congressman Paul Ryan, Senator Orrin Hatch, Senator Mitch McConnell and the House minority leader, John Boehner, all emceed by the actor Jon Voight, a steady stream of people milled around her table, just to the left of the stage.”

Palin on
FOX: "Sarah Palin said 'we told ya so' to President Obama on Monday night, claiming his spending polices to revive the economy were leading America to socialism. 'When you consider that the federal government is about $11 trillion in debt, and we're borrowing more to spend more ... it defies any sensible economic policy any of us ever learned through college,' the former Republican vice presidential candidate told Sean Hannity in a Fox News interview. 'It defies economy practices and principles that tell ya 'you gotta quit digging that hole when you are in that financial hole.'" Right... Good advice. (See Friday's
