Sotomayor: Considering the f-word

That, of course, is “filibuster.”

"Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Sunday said Senate Republicans are reserving their right to filibuster the nomination of Judge Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court. McConnell acknowledged on CBS’s 'Face that Nation' his own past stance against filibustering judges, but he said Democrats paved the way for a possible Sotomayor filibuster by filibustering appeals court nominee Miguel Estrada during the Bush administration. 'I have consistently opposed filibustering judges -- did it during the Clinton years -- but I lost that fight,' McConnell said. 'The Senate will filibuster judges. That precedent was established -- ironically enough -- on a Hispanic-American nominee in Miguel Estrada.'"

Video: A new poll suggests Republicans will lose the support of Hispanic voters if the party doesn’t vote to confirm Judge Sonia Sotomayor. Newsweek’s Jonathan Alter discusses.

The Washington Post has a good story about how controlled the White House is with the nominee.

The Los Angeles Times looks at the one cultural issue that should get a lot of air time during the hearings: affirmative action.

Property rights also will come up at her hearings.

In other words, McConnell can hardy wait to oppose Obama every chance he gets.
So what McConjob is saying "Tit for tat".  Sounds like a childs game.  No reference to Sotomayor's experience.  Wants to play pay back time.  How immature is that???  It's my understanding Estrada wasn't very qualified for the job.
I hope the idiots do!  The country will then see that the Repuke party is about PARTY FIRST country second!  The current lot of Repukes are disloyal to the country they were sworn to serve!  To serve Honorably is noble to serve dishonorably is well you fill in the blank____________________________!
If Witch McConnell decidfes to push for the fillibuster then the Demcorats ought to break out the nuclear option threat to eliminate fillibusters the repugnant ones used against the Dems years ago when they wanted their creeps conformed to the SC.

If the repugnanty ones fillibuster Sotomayor then they will watch their support among Hispanics plummet even further and that will doom their election chances next cycle.

Confirm Sotomayor Now!
Lakers are Champs! Yes They Did!
What a bunch of hypocrites McConnell and company are!  Any reporter out there going to do his or her job and call them out on threatening the "nuclear option" if the Democrats filibustered Shrub's appointees?
Wow, what a reason approach to leadership.
Sotomayor is anti-gun and both her and Oreobama are anti-american along with the rest of the dumbocrap party!!!!

Just another shining example of GOP childishness.  "You kicked my dog, so I'm going to kill your cat."  More proof that they have no ideas, no plan, and no message.  I'd like to see them try a filibuster and see where it get's them.  Here's a hint: filibuster proof majority in 2010.

The Demorcrats need to grow some real ones & start hearings on Cheney & call his bluff too.  Won't happen for all there liberal ways & talk, when it comes down to the tough stuff, they wuss out.
The hypocrisy is stunning, even for a dolt like McConnell. It wasn’t that long ago when Republicans constantly whined about how their candidates deserved fair treatment and an “up or down vote.” They railed against use of the filibuster and threatened to use the so-called “nuclear option.” Now, everything seems to have changed. Fine. If the GOP thinks things are bad for them now, go ahead and try to filibuster Sotomayer and see what happens. Please…
Just remember folks, when the Democrats were giving the GOP fits over nominees, the GOP wanted to do away with filibusters for all judicial nominees.  Funny how now that they don't have power, they suddenly think the filibuster for judicial nominees is a good idea.
I bet they can't stomache the idea that there is a woman out there that can defend herself like she would in their hearings.  I say read her stuff.  I think that she will be a moderate that could be a pain in Obama's side.  Where is there an ideological stand in her rulings?  Find it and prove me wrong that she is something that the Republicans can't deal with as a justice

Here is ***very*** interesting reading on what conservatives *used* to think about filibustering judicial nominees:

http://mediamatters.org/research/200905010042

Very very interesting reading indeed.  The truest hypocrisy ever.
Rush Limbaugh, on the use of filibusters (from his Dec 24, 2004 radio show:

courtesy of http://mediamatters.org/research/200905010042

"If the Senate Republicans are not prepared to end the unprecedented use by Senate Democrats of the filibuster rule against the president's judicial nominees, the president is going to have a real tough time getting these re-nominated candidates -- and for that matter -- Supreme Court nominees confirmed. This filibuster, as you know, they're filibustering these nominations which requires essentially 60 votes for a judge to be confirmed. The Constitution says nothing about this. The Constitution says simple majority, 51 votes. But because they're invoking the filibuster, which, you know, the Senate can make up its own rules but not when they impose on the Constitution and not when they impose on the legislative branch. Separation of powers here. But if nobody stops them, they're going to keep getting away with it. It's up to the Senate Republicans to stop them."

Hypocrisy much?
It's obvious that Republicans are in a vulnerable state right now, yet measures like this only makes them seek weaker. Why not spend some time re-evaluating policies that the majority of Americans want to see go in action? Maybe that way Republicans will be able to gather at least a few more minority votes. This is definitely not a step in the right direction.
