GOP pre-buts Obama speech

In a pre-buttal to President Obama's speech today before the American Medical Association, Rep. Tom Price (R-GA) -- a non-practicing orthopedic surgeon who's attending the AMA conference -- criticized the president's support for a public/government option that would compete with private health insurance.

"The content of the speech will be looked at with some suspicion and concern," the congressman said on a conference call sponsored by the Republican National Committee.

According to Price and other GOP critics, such a government "takeover" would crowd out private insurers and compel Americans to sign up for government-run health insurance.

Video: Sen. John Barrasso (R-Wy.) expresses his concern with Obama's healthcare reform proposals.

In the Q&A session, Price admitted that there is no legislative language yet for the public/government option. But he said that any plan that introduces the federal government into the equation will crowd out private companies.

However, moderate Democratic senators -- like Kent Conrad (D-ND) -- are floating compromise solutions that would prevent a public entity from crowding out private insurers.

Are you debating the fact that thousands upon thousands lost their retirement funds in the stock market. What if, people had invested their Social Security into the stock markets? This is not debatable...do you have something that substantiates
my counter?

That's their problem - it was their choice. Or are you now against pro-choice?

If you're looking for guarantees in life, you are certainly on the wrong planet.
We have a bunch of lawyers who are going to reform the medical system because they have done such a good job reforming our broken legal system.
The medical and insurance industry is antiquated and it's primary goal is to make money at whatever expense.  Like many companies in America that sell equipment and related services, their products and services are over priced and they simpley have not cared, all they want is the money.  It's time for all Americans to think about morales and less about greed and start delivering quality products and services at a reasonable price.  The present system is operating 50% above what is required to service the American people and these systems need to be retooled physically and mentally.
Ao let me get this straight, "Government run" health care is good enough for all members of Congress but not good enough for average Americans.  Puhleeze.  When Coburn, the Repubs and the Blue Dogs who oppose this public option give up their Government run healthcare for a private plan they will be more credible on this issue.  Can Coburn et al also explain to me why Republicans who constantly crow about free market principles suddenly are silent when the President presents a free market solution to bring actual competition and innovation to the healthcare industry.  Let the healthcare industry have to do what most other American industries are forced to do, provide the best product for the best price.  A little competition has never hurt anyone.

The Democrats haven't presented a plan yet. And they won't until the last possible minute, trying to pound the votes through before people can get a look at what it will cost them. See the Stimulus Bill for details on how this will be done.

But once a plan is introduced, then the Republicans will focus on the cost. Hoepfully they'll be able to get their point across in time before Pelosi and Reid try to hoodwink the American people again.

They could just take a page from the Bush plan and say "vote for this or you are anti-American".  Sure worked for war funding, why not health care funding.
I work in veterinary medicine.  We can perform surgery on a 100 lb dog for $2200.00 with bloodwork, x-rays, ultrasound, medications etc.  Why not the same for a 100 lb human.

Vets don't make as much as MDs, vet techs don't earn what a nurse earns, but the biggest difference is that a vet will be sued for the cost of the dog if he kills the dog.  Your MD will be sued for millions of dollars, the hospital will also be sued and anyone else who provided patient care or can be related to patient care in any way will also be sued.

Don't like the high cost of medical care?  Try tort reform.

If the federal government were to write a check and pay for the insurance for the 14 million people that are uninsured it would cost approx. 5 Billion!!!

Then why does BoBo want to spend TRILLIONS to accomplish the same (or less) thing?

BoBo's math just dont add up!!!

Answer: GE (msnbc's parent) and Al Gore will get the other 995 Billion!!!

Everyone keeps missing the larger problem that we cant talk about for being called racist.  And thats what to do about the illegals?  If we cover them them how many more will come?

From the L. A. Times
1. 40% of all workers in L. A. County ( L. A. County has 10.2 million people) are working for cash and not paying taxes. This is because they are predominantly illegal immigrants working  without a green card.

2. 95% of warrants for murder in Los Angeles are for illegal aliens.

3.  75% of people on the most wanted list in Los Angeles are illegal aliens.

4. Over 2/3 of all births in Los Angeles County are to illegal alien Mexicans on Medi-Cal , whose births were paid for by taxpayers.

5.  Nearly 35% of all inmates in California detention centers are Mexican nationals here  illegally.

6. Over  300,000 illegal aliens in Los Angeles County are living in Garages.

7. The FBI reports half of all gang members in Los Angeles are most likely illegal aliens from south of the border.

8. Nearly 60% of all occupants of HUD properties are illegal.

9. 21 radio stations in L. A. are Spanish speaking.
10. In L. A. County 5.1 million people speak English, 3.9  million speak Spanish.
(There are 10.2 million people in L. A. County. )

(All 10 of the above are from  the Los Angeles Times)

Show me a plan for COMPETITION without an alternative plan from the Government and I'd go along with considering it. But reality shows that hasn't happened in my adult life with insurance, pharmacuetical companies, the AMA and hospitals running the game and it's TIME FOR A CHANGE!!

All the above want no parts of a Government run plan. Why are they already fighting against such a plan? Because they are in complete control now and heaven forbid they actually have to account for high premiums and cost structures they've been gouging American citizens with FOREVER. If they were so concerned, you wouldn't have 47 million Americans who don't have health insurance!

One would have to admit if there are no insurance companies left with a government plan there will be no Americans crying on thier behalf!
Kent Conrad is either an idiot or a liar.  This so-called 'non-profit co op' would take taxpayer funds to start up, need additional taxpayer funds to stay in business, and require taxes on private health care programs just to keep afloat-all while charging less than what is necessary and paying doctors and hospitals less than they charge, which will drive up the costs of private health care programs.

It is the camel's nose under the tent.  When it goes broke in five or ten years, the only option will be a government single payor program.

If he REALLY wanted to make insurane more accessible, he would propose legislation allowing chambers of commerce throughout the nation to form groups for health insurane, and opening up local municipalities' plans to residents of those towns.

Unfortunately, this idea would not provide jobs for bureaucrats, so it is a non-starter for demorats.

You've seen the Conrad plan in detail? How privelaged you must be since most of the Congress hasn't even seen it yet. Please tell us how we all can get the details of Kent Conrad's plan so we can varify your talking points or are they just that more dittohead talking points?
Price has some nerve. He made a s*** load when he was practicing. He was an orthopedic surgeon. "Surgeon" is the key word here, someone should pull his old billing records to see how much he hauled in by padding his billing.

It would be less than what John Edwards made by chasing ambulances.

Spot on!!! And therein lies the problem.  This is the only country other than New Zeeland that allows direct prescription drug advertising to the public. (Over 3 Billion a year).  We are the only country where you can file bankruptcy for medical bills and the only country that has placed no limits on damage awards.  Go figure! If we are going to debate this let's do it honestly!
I thought repubulicans were all about competition and free markets.  So what is the problem?  Insurance companies will have to be competitive.
