Sotomayor: Belizean Grove

So which white male on the Senate Judiciary Committee will show outrage over SCOTUS nominee Sonia Sotomayor's membership to an all-women's club? "Sotomayor made the remarks in a cover letter for 10 documents the White House submitted to the Senate Judiciary Committee. The papers supplement a trove of documents and videos, along with a response to a questionnaire, that she turned over earlier this month. Her remarks indicate that some senators have taken an interest in her membership in the group, Belizean Grove, which she mentioned in the questionnaire response.”

“‘I am a member of the Belizean Grove, a private organization of female professionals from the profit, nonprofit and social sectors,’ Judge Sotomayor wrote. ‘The organization does not invidiously discriminate on the basis of sex. Men are involved in its activities — they participate in trips, host events and speak at functions — but to the best of my knowledge, a man has never asked to be considered for membership.’”

She added: “It is also my understanding that all interested individuals are duly considered by the membership committee. For these reasons, I do not believe that my membership in the Belizean Grove violates the Code of Judicial Conduct.”

Politico adds that Sotomayor “also provided additional information and documentation related to her tenure on the board of the Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund, as well as details of a couple of subsequently overturned criminal sentences she imposed."

So what?  I don't see where this would be a problem.  Start the "she's a sexist" in 3.2.1.

Kind of like the GOP= Gross old Party of men thing!!
First they called her a "racialist".  What do you think they'll call her now?  A "sexualist"?

Can't wait for the GOP reaction to this.

Sonia sounds like she's got some bone to pick...

Well he's got Bohemian Grove and she's got Belizian Grove so we're even aren't we? This seems a bit trivial but, of course, detractors will look for any miniscule thing to disqualify someone for such a position. The simple truth is that Sonya Sotomayor is the next US Supreme Court Justice.
All white clubs = racist
All mens clubs = sexist
All black clubs = racist
All womens clubs = sexist
All spanish clubs = racist
All jewish clubs = religiouist (??)
All non-gay clubs = homofobist (??)
All gay clubs = homofobist (??)

Bad is Bad no matter who or why you try to limit someone!!!

When will the ACLU start to defend everyone instead of just their chosen few?
First Read blathers: So which white male on the Senate Judiciary Committee will show outrage over SCOTUS nominee

Will you be surprised if the answer is none?

Turn the tables. Which Democrat on the Judiciary committee would have an absolute cow if a white nominee was a memeber of an all mens club? The answer of course is "All of them!".
The Republicans reflexively opposed to the appointment of Judge Sotomayor to the Supreme Court lose even more credibility.  This is a person first brought into the Federal Appeals system by Pres. George H.W. Bush, and a person with more judicial experience than anyone currently on the Supreme Court at the time or his or her confirmation.  If the Republicans want to oppose a candidate based on lack of credentials, or on sleazy past associations, so be it.  But in this case, they are opposed to a very well qualified woman only because the elected President has chosen her and he is of a different political party than they are.  Or because they are trying to draw parallels with previous confirmations.  In neither case does it help convince us that they are serious and thorough in their examination of the candidate.
I don't see a problem with this at all.  Trying to make something out of nothing?  Seems so.
This just goes to show...

Bigots come in all sizes, races and sexes.

All Americans deserve the EXACT same rights!
No More - No Less!!!!

If you disagree, for any reason, you ARE A BIGOT!!!
My, My how things change only now the questions are valid. For the last 8 years if a nominee had just ONE of the following,(all mens or womens club) (I am better because of my race) etc. they would have been imediatly withdrawn or never gotten out of commitee. Thats ok the Dems won, but for you guys to act holy and defend the actions is BS! President Obama was right he won and to the victor go the spoils.
IT MAKES NO DIFFERENCE --- SHE IS A PROTECTED CLASS --- A "FEMALE HISPANIC" --- SHE IS JUST ANOTHER STEP TOWARDS THE DISINTEGRATION OF 'AMERICA' BY THOSE, WHO LIKE OBAMA, WHO NEVER LIKED THE USA ANYWAY!
