From NBC's Domenico Montanaro
AP reports: "Nevada Sen. John Ensign resigns GOP leadership post after admitting affair."

Ensign was the fourth-ranking Republican in the Senate.

*** UPDATE *** NBC's Kelly O'Donnell reports that Minority Leader Mitch McConnell made following statement, off camera:

"He's [Ensign's] accepted responsibility for his actions and apologized to his family and constituents. He offered, and I accepted, his resignation as chairman of the Policy Committee."

At least he had the decency to put his money where his mouth is.

Okay; bad word choice, we aren't sure where his mouth's been.
Another RepublicRAT bites the dust...good riddence Mr. Morals!
Good, now go away Ensign and don't let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya!
See - Bill Clinton...

This is what you do when you screw up (pardon the pun)

John Ensign is a veterinarian. Is "Neuter and Spay the Only Way"?

See:

So is the affair a "Vitter" a "Larry Craig" or a "Mark Foley"? Are we talkin' hookers, minors or anonymous men?
And didn't Newt go through the same thing? Now before Jo blo Bo comes un-glued and starts listing Democrat indescretions,I'll concede that Dems are immoral sinners too. It's just that the Repubicans are just so self-righteous.
I can hardly believe that Ensign followed his own advice. Very un-Politian!   Thanks, John
Very smart move.  I respect him for this.  Now what about that Senate seat here in Vegas buddy?
BoBo the Prez -- He resigned his leadership post, not the Senate! Although he called for Bill to resign! He himself hasn't!
Ensign was the fourth-ranking Republican in the Senate.

He should have resigned.
It's not like he left a woman to drown, lied under oath, and obstructed justice to try and cover it up.
See - Bill Clinton...

This is what you do when you screw up (pardon the pun)

Ahh good to see hypocrites stick together bozo. So you agree that Ensign should be booted out of office?

Whether it's Bill Clinton, John Edwards, Elliot Spitzer, or John Ensign, infidelity is a stain on our nation and the well-being of families.  A nation will ultimately be as solid as the families that make it up.  Go ahead and mock "family values" all you want.  Bottom line, both spiritually, emotionally, and financially our country is paying dearly for broken families.  "A house divided cannot stand" someone pretty awesome once said.  America (and both political parties) needs to return to God and His goodness.  Neither party can solve these problems in any significant level if morality continues to spiral.  We will reap what we sow. If you and your children continue to drink in Hollywood's values and expect a politican to solve the problems of this country, don't hold your breath. We would do well to heed President Abraham Lincoln's words from his1863 Proclamation of National Fast: "It behooves us then to humble ourselves before the offended Power, to confess our national sins and to pray for clemency and forgiveness....".
Well, since he has called for other pol's to resign in light of their offenses then I suggest he do the same and resign his senate seat. WHAT IS GOOD FOR THE GOOSE IS GOOD FOR THE GANDER!!
John was a "Promise Keeper". He was highly critical of Larry Craig. Hmmmm.
The libs here might want to quit ridiculing the idea of a person having morals. I know, I know. You are only ridiculing those "hypocrites" who talk about morals then apparently fail in that regard. In your eyes, this only applies to Republicans, right? Well, as for dems, it's kind of hard to be a hypocrite when you don't have any standards to begin with, isn't it? Again, you may want to stop ridiculing the idea of morals lest it start to seem you have none yourselves.
Ensign demanded that Larry Craig resign when Craig was caught with his pants down

/Maybe Ensign should follow his own advice and resign from public office

Another 'Christian' bites the dust
(or gets exposed)
Hmm, does anyone else think something more is going on, here?  While the behavior is reprehensible, it is not necessarily career-ending- even for a hypocrite like "Promise Keeper" Ensign.  Relinquishing a considerable amount of power in the GOP leadership makes one wonder about the reported "extortion" angle, though...
I guess that is one way to show that he is sorry...  The world is really changing; Democrats and Republicans are changing scandal types.  What is this world coming to?
Dave, TN - no he did not do those things because he got caught first - he got exposed before he had the opportunity to lie under oath, leave a person to drown, etc.,
M. Huckabee (and I'm quite sure you are not the real one)the only women I have ever know who have had an abortion were republicans, I know more divorced/remarried (divorced because of their own infidility) republicans than Democrats, and a lot of republicans tell me they are only republicans because of the money - now how Christian is that?  Not very at all.  Even ole Fred Thompson told Lori Morgan (this is in her book by the way) - Don't be wearing low cut dresses or showing cleavage honey, the conservatives don't like that one bit.  And that is an issue because he ran it into the ground during his senate campaign that he was the "good guy" - when in all actuality he walked off and left a very good wife and family for the bright lights of Hollywood.
I don't care if you are a democrat, republican, independent, green party, or anything else - do what you say and say what you do.  That is the real problem here (and yes, I'm still mad at Bill Clinton and furious with John Edwards), so at least I'm honest enough to face the demons in my own party - are you?
As stated before, the problem here deals with the reality that he didn't relinquish anything when this momment was public knowledge.

On top of that, I'd love the see the HR law behind, the giving a severence package to the husband of the wife with whom he had an affair with.

If you marriage was as strong as ever as his wife stated, going public prior to being squeezed shouldn't have been an issue.

My issue with the arguement of personal life vs. public life in this case is that he didn't sleep with that woman as just another 'John' looking for love in all the wrong places. He slept with her as a US Senator and he knows it.
