Teasing the NBC/WSJ poll, part 2

Posted: Wednesday, June 17, 2009 5:22 PM by Mark Murray

From NBC's Mark Murray
Here are other numbers we're releasing:
-- 60% view Barack Obama favorably, which is down four points from April
-- 26% view Dick Cheney favorably, which is up eight points from April
-- 24% view Nancy Pelosi favorably, which is down seven points from April
-- 25% hold a positive view of the Republican Party, which is an all-time low for it in the poll
-- 45% hold a positive view of the Democratic Party

Video: A new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll suggests that after five months in office, President Obama is now being judged for the actions he's taking and no longer just for the promises he made, with growing concerns about the budget deficit and the government intervention into the economy. NBC's Chief White House Correspondent Chuck Todd reports

Also, regarding controversial actions Obama has taken:
-- By a 48-41% margin, Americans favor eliminating procedures like waterboarding to get information from terrorists
-- 52% oppose closing Guantanamo Bay
-- 56% oppose giving financial aid to General Motors, in exchange for the federal government obtaining a stake in it

The rest of the poll comes out NBC Nightly News, as well as on MSNBC.com, beginning at 6:30 pm ET.

0 - the number of Barack Obama's accomplishments as president.
First Read: 25% hold a positive view of the Republican Party, which is an all-time low for it in the poll

The first question asked in the poll is "Do you watch Olbermann's show?" If you answer "no", then the next sound you hear is "click".
Okay, I need to say this because I am so sick of Darth Cheney, and I am not alone in my thinking. His continues defense on torture and criticizing Obama on homeland security, one cannot help but think that he and his lackeys are planning an attack in the U.S. to justify his theory. There already are theories out there that 9-11 were planned inside. So God forbid one does happen, it is imperative that authorities look into this old dirt bag as a suspect.

With ALL the problems we are having, it boggles my mind how the right wing, and anti-Obama Limburger lemmings continue to makes matters worse for our country. Where is the patriotism of uniting and supporting our current admin to make things work, instead of not giving a dam* that we are tanking, just because their party flunk. So disgusting.
Having been away (anniversary trip) donating to the Indiana economy, it seem's as tho i missed a lot.

Who would've known the Iranian election could turn out this way?

An all time low rating for the GOP.  Think they will learn anything from it?

Somehow I doubt it.

And, much like we were told at the start of the year, I am sure things will get worse before they get better.

Anyone want to start a pool as to where their approval rating will bottom out?
25% of Americans hold a positive view of the Republicans. It's an all time low, but I think we can do better. If we peel off the doctor killers and the holocaust denyers we can get that number down to 12% So let's keep talking about the thousands of children killed as the GOP chanted "stay the course".
Cheney is more popular than Pelosi.  The world has officially turned upside down.
I love it! Pelosi has lower numbers than Cheney. It's probably too much to hope however, that the former American city known as Frisco will un-elect her any time soon.
Guantanamo Bay is a strange one, because all the detaine's will go to other country's, and the only one's to stay here will remain here like @ super-max, west of Pueblo Colorado and other place's where they have been for year's.  G.M. on the other hand will be viewed much differantly also than it is today, because of the new car's with the new "Tech." and new management. There is so much out on the horizon, that it may be the first time, for me, to buy a G.M. product.
These polls only reinforce my view of the collective ignorance of the population of this country.  People do not know their history, they do not know even the basics of how the economy works, they don't have a clue how international relations work and they are easily swayed by slick tongued politicians to believe things that aren't true and only hurt their own situations.

While this ignorance is manifest on both sides, the right wing seems to be more ignorant that the left.  Look at the demographics of the people who are on either side and you will find less educated people on the right than on the left.  In my personal experience, I have often tried to debate someone on the right and found they were woefully ignorant of the facts of the subject being debated.  When confronted with the facts they have more often than not started calling me names, telling me my 'head was in the sand' and using jingoistic slogans that prove nothing.

Both side have intelligent and reasonable people and leaders but the majority of those seem to gravitate to the left.  The left seems more concerned about their fellow man while the right seems more concerned about their pocketbook.

Basically, I'm digusted by both sides and feel that the political discourse in this country has become much too acrimonious and dominated by personal and ad hominem attacks.  Too often personal attacks, name calling and misinformed sound bite declarations have taken the place of reasoned debate based on sound reasoning and factual evidence.
