First thoughts: The return of Ross Perot?

*** The return of Ross Perot? Ross Perot has now become a political afterthought -- especially after his two presidential defeats and his disastrous NAFTA debate performance against Al Gore -- but the cause that he once championed seems to be making a comeback: balancing the budget.

In our new NBC/WSJ poll, nearly six in 10 respondents say the government should worry more about keeping the deficit down, even if that means the economy recovers more slowly. The latest New York Times/CBS poll has a similar result, with 60% believing the Obama administration doesn’t have a plan to deal with deficit. What’s more, self-identified independents, the same people Perot once appealed to, aren’t as supportive of Obama. In our NBC/WSJ survey, 46% of independents approve of Obama’s job, which is down from 60% in April, and that’s the primary reason why the president’s overall job rating has declined five points to 56%. The deficit, however, isn’t the only problematic issue for Obama. Almost seven in 10 have serious reservations about the government’s ownership of GM, and 52% oppose closing Gitmo. As one of us said on NBC’s Nightly News last night, Obama is now dealing with a public that’s judging him more for his actions than the promises he has made.

*** Blaming the GOP: But that's the bad news for Obama and the Democrats. The good news, according to our poll, is that the president is still personally popular: his fav/unfav is 60%-29%, and three-quarters like him, including 27% who don’t agree with his policies. In addition, the public doesn't blame Obama for the deficit or the economy -- that honor instead goes to the previous Republican administration. Asked who is more responsible for the size of the deficit, 46% cited Bush, 21% said the Democrats in Congress, 7% said the Republicans in Congress, and just 6% said Obama. Moreover, 72% believe the current state of the economy is something the president inherited. Indeed, the Republican Party finds itself at all-time lows in our poll (25% positive rating) and in the NYT/CBS one (28%). And that brings up this question: If the public is really serious about the deficit, does it turn to a Perot-like figure instead of the GOP?

Video: Former DNC chairman Howard Dean and author P.J. O’Rourke discuss the future of both the Democrat and Republican Parties.

*** Good news and bad news on health care: On the subject of health care, there’s good news for both Democrats and Republicans in our poll. More than three-quarters believe it’s important for Americans to have a choice between a public/government insurance plan and a private one. But if a government-run option is established, 47% of those who hold private insurance say it’s “very” or “somewhat” likely their employer would drop their plans. As Bill McInturff, the GOP half our NBC/WSJ poll, puts it: “It’s hard to change the status quo when you have people who have been well served by the status quo.” What is clear is that Americans aren’t big fans of having their health-care benefits taxed: 59% oppose taxing those with generous health benefits, while 70% oppose taxing everyone’s health benefits. Over to you, Max Baucus…

*** USA! USA! USA! Here’s perhaps the most striking finding in the entire poll: There’s a growing sense of American patriotism, at least as it relates to the U.S. auto industry. According to the survey, 54% say they’ve considered buying an American car in the past few years, and of those people, 40% say they are more likely to buy an American car due to the problems the U.S. industry is facing. By comparison, only 14% say they are less likely to buy an American car. Also, people are feeling more optimistic about the economy: 46% say the economy will get better in the next 12 months, which is up eight points since April and is the highest number on that question since Jan. 2004.

*** Odds and ends: Among the other poll findings we thought were interesting: Sonia Sotomayor’s numbers compare favorably to, or even exceed, John Roberts’ and Samuel Alito’s; Dick Cheney’s positive rating has increased eight points (to 26%); Nancy Pelosi’s rating has decreased seven points (to 24%); for the first time, a plurality support believe the U.S. should take military action to destroy North Korea’s ability to make nuclear weapons; and Obama’s Cairo speech/Middle East trip was viewed favorably by the public, as 42% said it helped the United States’ relationship with the Muslim world versus 14% who said it hurt it. Just askin’ on Pelosi vs. Cheney, but did the speaker’s numbers fall because she won’t defend herself as much publicly as Cheney does?

*** Bush strikes back? Not only is Obama’s honeymoon apparently over with the public, but it also seems over with the man he succeeded: George W. Bush. Yesterday giving a speech in Erie, PA, the former president fired a few shots at the new administration, according to the Washington Times. "I know it's going to be the private sector that leads this country out of the current economic times we're in," he said. "You can spend your money better than the government can spend your money." He also said, "Government does not create wealth. The major role for the government is to create an environment where people take risks to expand the job rate in the United States.” On health care, "There are a lot of ways to remedy the situation without nationalizing health care," he said. "I worry about encouraging the government to replace the private sector when it comes to providing insurance for health care." Finally, when asked by the emcee whether Obama’s policies were “socialist,” Bush started to answer and then stopped. "I hear a lot of those words, but it depends on…" He later said, "We'll see."

*** Obama’s day: The president meets with Middle East envoy George Mitchell at 3:15 pm ET (closed press) and then with Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner at 4:00 pm (also closed press). In the evening, Obama headlines a fundraiser for the Democratic House and Senate campaign committees, which is expected to raise $3 million for the party. And here’s one other piece of news: Hillary Clinton broke her elbow yesterday on her way to the White House and will need surgery. She was scheduled to do an event with Angelina Jolie today on refugees, and that has been canceled.

Iran in Chaos

What is happening in Iran is not at all surprising.  Iranian citizens have two very different visions of their future.  Likewise, it is not surprising that Ahmadinejad may have engaged in election fraud.  What I’m wondering is what Iran will look like in six months (or a year) from now.  If the reformers continue to put reassure on Ayatollah Khamenei, he may back down, let Ahmadinejad be the fall-guy, thus saving his own skin.  It all depends on the mechanisms Iran has in place to listen to it’s citizens…

President Obama is wise to keep his powder dry, and for the time-being shun the topic.  It is not yet clear what will unfold in Iran, but what is preditable is the outcome will not be good for Ahmadinejad…

Ron Indiana (Sent June 15, 2009 9:30 AM)

Today I am encouraged by the non-violent demonstrations of Iranians mourning the martyrs lost in the past few days.  Gandhi and Martin Luther King would be proud of the peaceful, silent demonstrations.

Tomorrow or this weekend the Ayatollahs will meet and perhaps declare the election null and void.   I believe they will do this because they want to preserve their own power, their own form of government and prevent a rebellion.  A reelection will not bode well for Ahmadinejad. It is too early to say with certainty, but that is what the tea leaves are telling me.

Credit to Ed, FW TX who commented that Iran is the first high tech rebellion.  Governments around the world should take note that  public actions will not go unnoticed.

Poll Data

The latest poll results showing that President Obama is losing some independent support is expected and should not alarm progressives. He has had to make some tough decisions to stabilize the economy and to save the auto industry.  Americans are not a very patient lot and expect instant results.  It may take a year for these policies to reap positive results.  We have a steady CIC steering us through some rough waters.

Leftovers & Take Out…
-- 25% hold a positive view of the Republican Party, which is an all-time low for it in the poll
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
How low will they go… we’re about to find out!  My prediction is they will ‘bottom out’ somewhere around 13 – 15%.  The Party of No still hasn’t realized the majority of people in this country are not as STUIPID as they are!
Healthcare… woke up this morning to my local news and the #’s are staggering they foresee another 9% increase in the cost of insurance for the coming year!  My BCBS premium ALREADY went up 9% in April! You do the math… how long can this continue?  I consider myself lucky enough to even have insurance and yet 47 million other Americans don’t have the option to be ‘bent over’ by these burglars!
It is time to put an end these thieves ONCE & FOR ALL!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
PETA: OBAMA NOT 'BUDDHA'
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I knew it was just a matter of time before this became a juicy tidbit for the chattering class… what I didn’t know was the FR would actually devote time to it!  I expected Lush Limpballs & Sean Insanity to be all over it like white on rice… but not FR… definitely not some of your better work there guys!
And regarding PETA – they do some decent work – but when they come out with cr@p like this it only makes them look like a bunch of left wing Cray zee whack jobs!
I’ll be anxiously waiting for there statement on the proper etiquette of handling mosquito’s…LOL
Glad to hear Bumbling Bush is out & about… keep on yapping there Georgie… it’s a great reminder to EVERYONE why YOU ran this country off the cliff!  Like ANYONE with gray matter instead of cottage cheese (yeah I’m talking to you Republicants) would listen for one minute to this morons advice on the economy!
The CBS/NewYork times poll has Prez. Obama at 63%, still very popular with Americans who clearly see him as focused.
Thank Goodness that McCain was defeated in the election, otherwise there would not be a revolution in Iran, we would maybe even be at war with them by now.
I feel sorry for Mika on Morning Joe. Does she have any original thought? She now is seeing things through Joes eyes?
Feminism has taken a giant step backwards as we see someone who is completely dominated by the alpha male next to her on tv ... pathetic !
Chuck Todd, sorry man, the honeymoon still goes on, if fox has Obama at 60% and CBS at 63%, and your NBC poll has the country thinking he is focused, I call that A honeymoon in full effect.
On a sidenote, gay activists need to be careful, you knew Prez. Obama does not support gay marriage. He is doing everything possible for you guys ... but some of you are coming out as angry as the right-wingers on fox. That is counter-productive.
What option do you have,Sarah Palin ? I think not. Be patient folks.
If balancing the budget is now a goal, that goal is a day late and a few trillion dollars short. Even Obama says he'll cut the deficit, the very defict he inflated 4x that of the previous administration, in oh, maybe 8 years or so. Not sure how he'll do that seeing he'll be out of office in 2012.
How does the president being popular help the 10,000 people that lost their job yesterday?
George Bush is full of cra*!  He used government money to pay contractors for his war!!!!!!!
What a lying hypocrit!!!!!!!!
Having been away (anniversary trip) donating to the Indiana economy, it seem's as tho i missed a lot.
Who would've known the Iranian election could turn out this way?
The Lady's on here continue to have command of Facts on their side.
So, the chiwhawha loves trashy women, whata Surprise !
Yes America, Lipstick on a Pig!
DEMOCRATS, HAVE YOU HAD YOUR rABIES SHOT TODAY ?
Who's carrying the PooperScooper behind the $**T being thrown by the Mongrel Chiwhawha
George Bush is full of cra*!  He used government money to pay contractors for his war!!!!!!!
What a lying hypocrite !!!!!!!!
George Bush is full of cra*!  He used government money to pay contractors for his war!!!!!!!
What a lying hypocrite !!!!!!!!
Blame the GOP? For what? It's obvious, and admitted by Biden, that the stimulus package Obama said would fix the economy isn't working! The GOP said that stimulus plan would fail, too much pork for Democrats in it, and the GOP was right. I guess being right has it's price. It's much better to be on tv every day like Obama giving bs speechs and being popular, all the while spending the country into a hole it can never get out of.
fron an earlier thread
Most women is general try to look their best.
Conservative women, especially politicians, look great while the Dems look like they need a lot more make-up, although it won't even help most of them, and the gays, which are mostly Dem, don't usually wear any and man, that's rough.
It's the damn truth ... It's what it is.
Can't wait to see these poll numbers when the Democrats finally decide who is going to be taxed to pay for the health care boondoggle.
Oh great, the functional idiot Shrub pretending that his policies had nothing to do with the destruction of this country.  Someone should stand up in a crowd and tell him the SHUT UP!!!!
I can see why Hillary faked her elbow injury. Getting on a stage with Angelina Jolie would be like comparing a dream boat to a ship wreck.
All of a sudden with the billions borrowed and spent on an illegal war, the republlicans are concerned about the budget???????????
Unbelivable-the arrogant sleaze of the republican rehetoric that hollers " conserveratism".  We will not forget who nor how the American economy was trashed.  It was by the deregulation,greed, self-absorbed republicans!!!!!!!
THE GREATEST DANGER TO OUR DEMOCRACY IS OBAMA TURNING THE MEDIA INTO A STATE PROPAGANDA MACHINE.
Tom Brokaw, who interviewed President Obama for NBCNEWS on June 5 is... appointed to President's Commission on White House Fellowships...
------------------------------------------------------
UPDATE: ABC REFUSES OPPOSITION ADS DURING WHITE HOUSE SPECIAL...
-----------------------------------------------------
WHEN A GOVERNMENT, WHETHER BY FORCE OR BRIBERY, TURNS A FREE MEDIA INTO A PROPAGANDA DEVICE FOR ITS OWN USE --- THE FREEDOM OF THE CITIZENS IS LOST!
THINK IRAN.
Bush should keep pounding on Obama and pointing out what a moron Obama is. The press won't point out how inadequate Obaba is, so someone has to do it. Cheney really ripped Obama a new one when Obama selectively released the Gitom documents. Now it's time for Bush to stand up for his presidency. People aprreciate the truth, and It's Bush and Cheney that are providing it.
Polls don't supply jobs..work or any meaningful help to the people..
I really can't comment on that. I really don't want to be involved and seen as meddling.
So now the big new story is that Obie is obsessed with the Fox channel not giving him the adulation that the other cable and network channels do.
To quote O'Reilly. "We don't have stars in our eyes when it comes to Barack Obama. We are fair while other media outlets pander to him and even bow to him."
Yeah, the media is general asks easy questions that Obie wants to see ahead of time. His rules so he doesn't look foolish. He is outrageously thinned skinnned and cannot handle criticism so he doesn't like Fox, who will not pander to anybody.
The Obie show doesn't fly on Fox where ABC will do a sitcom on Obie from Washington soon. Super promo here and the reason why the media still drools, though not as much, over Obie.
** Blaming the GOP: But that's the bad news for Obama and the Democrats. The good news, according to our poll, is that the president is still personally popular: his fav/unfav is 60%-29%, and three-quarters like him, including 27% who don’t agree with his policies. In addition, the public doesn't blame Obama for the deficit or the economy -- that honor instead goes to the previous Republican administration.
I am not deterred by poll number on the performance of this administration. I am an old school registered Democrat and have seen a lot in my years; voted in a lot of elections and well aware of the politics of success and failure of our nation.
I realize what we are facing and how he arrived at this point. Do I agree with all of the President's decisions on all issues...no. Do I have the ability to see far beyond what is actually happening or media spin. Yes.
I have faith in the ability of this administrations abilities to right what has happened to our nations economy and the world's economy. We are experiencing something totally out of the ordinary and time and patience is the key to it's repair.
The old economy and false wealth is something that I feel wont ever return because the wealth we experienced was false. Americans were encouraged to spend and live far beyond our means and we must adjust to reality. I can't ask anyone else to think as I think, or to do what I am willing to do.
There is one thing that I know and it is that the reality of what we've experienced will be my primary focus for survival.
Bush's government created and aided A world of wealth.
With tax breaks and perks for big business, the wealthy, no bid contracts and billions spent in Iraq for "chosen" contractors etc.
With the republicans popularity the lowest in history, he will only add to the lack of respect and creditibility we feel for that party.
The current national debt is 11.4 Trillion.
When Obama took office it had just gone over 10.0 Titllion.
Keep track:
http://www.brillig.com/debt_clock/
I think the poll numbers are great. Americans should be concerned about the deficit.
I think that these polling numbers demonstrate that more Americans are paying attention, that they understand the problems we are facing, that they know the REAL REASON we are in this situation, regardless of how hard the Republican party tries to blame others for their colossal fail on the economy.
You know, one of the things that bothers me the most about the current deficit?
I can't for the life of me figure out what we have to show for it. What tangible thing did President Bush buy with the additional debt he created?
I also find it very entertaining to hear Republican politicians basically saying to the American people:
"We screwed up the economy with our foreign adventures, and now we can't AFFORD to offer you the same type of affordable government sponsored health coverage that you folks are paying for us to have. Now that we have spent every cent, we need you to trust us - we're the party of fiscal conservatism dontcha know?"
Come on America - don't let these politicians once again live high on the hog on your dime - we're smarter than that.
Seems to me there are gonna be alot of pet projects on the cutting room floor to make budgetary room for the American people to have the level of healthcare they DESERVE and ARE PAYING FOR.
Sometimes I think we ought to take a cue from the Iranians and just take to the streets to get these folks attention . . . this is not a game . . . this is a matter of life and death.
Way to go Mr. President...keep those invaders away!
A new government appointment crushed...
I warned back in March that by June the Obama honeymoon would be over.  Yes,people like him-but they hate his policies.  If you compare the numbers from your last poll, you will find that fewer people today blame the last administration than in this poll-which is fair, because he certainly could not be blamed in January.  He does get the blame for exploding the deficit.
I notice that you did not poll on whether or not people wanted to cancel the rest of the stimulus-Rasmussen did, and the majority want it cancelled, as what has gone 'out the door' has not nothing to stimulate the economy.
Diageo, which still has the highest approval numbers for Obama, (they claim to poll only registered voters or those who were ineligible to vote in the last election) has a very worrisome number for Obama:  only 46% in total would vote for his re election-that number includes 19% who absolutely would vote to re elect, the rest 'lean toward'.
The PETA people should grow up.  I love animals, but c'mon, it was a FLY, for crying out loud.
ABC is, I believe, going to regret the all-day Obama lovefest.  They claim it will be balanced, yet they will not sell commercial time to groups that voice opposition to the obama plan.  Real balanced, ABC.
Claire McCaskill calling for answers from the Obama administration on IG Walpin's dismissal is good news.  Let's hope she gets somewhere.  It seems like he was fired, by the White House, for investigating mis-use of federal funds by a friend of Obama's.  I, for one, hope some low-level staffer was responsible.  I don't like Obama's policies, but I hope he is above that kind of action.
Well, so much for George Bush not criticizing President Obama. I knew he wouldn't miss the chance to throw darts at the Obama Administration. We all remember how well the Republicans managed things during their reign of terror. George should exit the stage along with Dick, Liz, Rush, Newt & John Ensign.
The more George Bush talks the more we remember how much we dislike him. BTW Renegade by Richard Wolffe is #4 on the NY Times best seller list.Scarbourgh's book is #7. Let's get out there and buy Renegade and get it to #1 on NY Times list.
It was obvious to me that, since NBC spent all those bucks on a poll, that you would lede with it (and over-play its importance) at every opportunity over the next several days.
Other than that a parallel CBS-NYT poll has Pres. Obama's favorable rating 5 points higher than NBC/WSJ, I have no bone to pick with the raw numbers.
But I do have a major problem with some of Chuck's conclusions - first and foremost that "...Obama’s honeymoon apparently over with the public."
This is the spin that, no doubt your management was praying for (since any kind of change in the political dynamic resurrects campaign "horse race" excitement and therefore hypes ratings).
But, to me, a 5-point drop in approval over the first 5 months is (a) not particularly earth-shattering, (b) doesn't confirm the end of any "honeymoon" (whatever that's supposed to mean) and (c) is well within the margins of statistical "bounce" (something NBC polling is famous for).
This whole preoccupation with "Honeymoons", "Does Obama Have Too Much on His Plate?" and picking apart various options on the table regardless of whether they actually become part of any program is tantamount to "criticizing the expected taste of the pie, while it's still baking in the oven."
News-wise, you had a bad day yesterday (Wed.). In addition - regarding your coverage of Iran - CNN ate your lunch (More and better on-the-ground coverage/more experts who are familiar with or actually live in the region).
*** Bush strikes back? Not only is Obama’s honeymoon apparently over with the public, but it also seems over with the man he succeeded: George W. Bush. Yesterday giving a speech in Erie, PA, the former president fired a few shots at the new administration, according to the Washington Times.
Some nerve he has to decide to add is two cents to something that he is responsible. I guess the poll numbers gave him courage to speak. Not so soon Mr. Bush. There are a lot of die heart supporters that are in favor or the tough decisions that our CIC has had to make in oder to clean up you piles of crap.
I've never anticipated full support fron Independents; a lot of them voted out of fear of what we were facing rather than the full reality of what has actually happened to our economy. The colapse of of economy didn't happen overnight and it wont be fixed overnight. I am extremely confident in our CIC's ability to correct the false wealth we experienced during the Bush administration.
9/11...go shopping!
I would be very worried about these numbers with the mid terms next year. I have the president I want, yet he's have increasing difficulties "fixing" the economy. And next year we could very well see some changes in Congress. The public forgets how damaged this economy was in the making during the Bush Administration.
The GOP, Corporate America, Bush Administration - all unbelievably irresponsible. If I saw this coming years ago, they should have. I worried about losing my job, so I paid off my credit cards, I didn't go out and buy a condo in the city like I had always dreamed of doing, I cut back on my traveling. Afterall, a bad recession was coming. It was obvious. Yet no one talked about it. Everyone allowed it to happen, especially the corporate heads. Greed. Stupidity. Arrogance.
All left in President Obama's lap. And now he's going to have to fix it. All of it. But everyone wants instant results, even though we all know this is going to take a long time to stabliize. I'm with President Obama for the long haul. But to many, they've already decided that perhaps we should be looking at another right wing fruitcake as our president in 4 years. They understand economics. Afterall, they're conservatives. That's what the media tells us every single day.
You can count on it. I'm sticking with the president I have. I waited a long long time for someone like him.
Once again the American public have lost their short term memories.  How in the hell can people expect the stimulus to already be having an affect on the economy?  Do they even listen to what the President has said over and over again?  Did they not listen when he said we would continue to loose jobs well into 2010?  Did they not hear him when he said it will take a year to get the stimulus funds to the states for infrastructure job creation?  Do they not realize the depth and severity of the economic crisis?  Do they not understand this is a huge country and things do not turn on a dime?  I think, based on these poll numbers, most Americans should be taking Aricept, their memories are fading fast.
Such a shame.
Ross Perot is so several decades ago.  Where was old Ross the past few decades while the Reagan, Bush, Bush National Debt was being raised higher and higher?  Oh yeah he was too busy counting his tax cut welfare savings to be concerned about what his tax cut welfare was costing our country and economy.  Too late now old parrot perot to be whining about deficits now that you've gotten your tax cut welfare.
It's a good sign that many Americans are willing to buy an American car rather than imports.  I'm glad that Mainstream Americans are turning a deaf ear to the repugnant one's call for boycotting Chrysler and GM.  The evil elephant party really hates America if it wants to destroy our auto industry.
It's looking better for a public health care option as more Americans realize that private insurance is a bust and will leave them in bankruptcy if they get really sick.  Americans who don't want their health insurance benefits taxed always are looking for something for nothing, time to pay the piper cheapskates.  Still we need to restore the top tax brackets that Raygunz eliminated in order to ensure that the richest and greediest pay their fair share of taxes again so that we can have a good public health care option.
Buy American!
FR: According to the survey, 54% say they’ve considered buying an American car in the past few years
The bad news of course is that 87% of those same people consider Toyota and Honda domestic cars.
Nearly 6 in 10 people are concerned about the deficits. First, where were these people during the past 8 years when billions were wasted in Iraq and second Americans in the majority seem to live for the now w/ instant gratification and instantly resort to charging and finally unregulated/greedy financial institutions charging outrageous interest rates BUT George Bush and the other free market capitalists just wanted us to keep shopping. We all in one sense or another need to look in the mirror and blame ourselves for being so manipulated and gullible by the supply siders under Reagan and corporate/wallstreet greedmeisters. Now, the proverbial S@@t has hit the fan, and we're running scared for our inevitable slide towards years of deficits and indenture servitude to the Chinese thanks to meglomaniacs like Bush/Cheney.
I knew he [Bush] wouldn't miss the chance to throw darts at the Obama Administration.
Dottie Swarthmore PA
Fair is fair. Tit-for-tat. Obama has been throwing mud since Day #1 of his administration, and now he's getting his nose rubbed in it. I say good!
We don’t care about your personal problems…
You should have titled the "Bush Strikes Back" header as "The Empire Strikes Back" since he's like the evil emperor, thankfully deposed and irrelevant.  Ofcourse he's abck spouting that people can spend their money smarter than the government, yeah remember the pet rock?  Or how about recently the $99 Bernie Madoff ceramic doll with hammer that idiots could buy and then smash?  No people don't spend their money very smartly anymore, especially those with way too much money.  Anyway we should ignore this incompetent idiot who not only bankrupted his own oil company but now the country and the whole global economy.
I am so laughing that the American people know that it was Clueless George and his repugnant ones pals who wrecked our economy with their tax cut welfare for the rich and greedy and deregulation.  Despite all the lies of the evil elephants they have not been able to hoodwink the majority again with their false claims of fiscal responsibility.
The Irrelevant Elephant Party is at it's lowest popularity ever, now that's change I can believe in.  After so many months of baseless attacks on President Obama it's the repugnant ones who have reaped the whirlwind of disapproval as it should be.  The dopes of nope don't deserve to be trusted again after their endless charade of lies.
Just Say No to the Evil Elephant Party!
Ah, First Read...or is that First Reed, blowing like puppet straws in the messiah's hot air?  The self-delusion you practice may temporarily make you feel better, but be advised that events over next six months or so will shatter your glass house, and the image of you virtual savior projected upon the inner surface of your fabricated world will self-destruct in a nanosecond. Time to sober up and get off your left handed dope. Computer, end program.
What is surprising is the MSM thinks the Populace has completely forgotten 8 years of Bush-Cheney ! The MSM still thinks that they can influence Public Opinion ! For our 1st read reporter's, don't read to much into President Obama's so-called Honeymoon being over. Your attention span may Only envelope the here & now, but the Voter's who put an End to GOP run policy's, have'nt forgotten nor will forget any time in the near future.
Quitely, Obama is shipping Gitmo resident's from their luxury home that Chicken George gave them. Sun, sand, soccer balls, prayer (as if some have religion), sounds like a well planned Vacation for lots of people, however, voter's who pay for this Luxury want it CLOSED.
You can bet that if North Korea is Stupid enough to send a missle towards Hawaii, Obama will Crush their missle sites ASAP. No doubt about it.
Liberals on this board continue to be confused. Ross Perot didn't do anything, didn't say anything. FR just referred to him and what policies he advocated back in the '90s.
Ross isn't out to get you libs. Sit down, take some deep breaths, and some of your meds, and just calm down . . . . .
It is indeed sad commentary when Dick Cheney's approval ratings improve for any reason. He is the face of why this country has a reputation for torturing prisoners, being the bully of the world, and telling a fellow member of Congress to go "F" himself. Bravo for him!
I was a bit disappointed in Keith O. last night and his stance against the President.  Yes, any of us may disagree with President Obama but he is doing the best job he can with what he has to work with.
Cheney's approval rating may have increased because the Rethuglicans hang together and remain a unified front, even when they disagree in private. The Dems fall apart at the hint of any opposition or unfavorable reaction, which is a huge peeve of mine.
Great job, Mr. President. You have conviction and vision and you will be successful in all that you are trying to do.
Does anyone understand how dangerous it is to our democracy to sit by and allow the current administartion to turn the media into its propaganda machine?   Now all 'four branches' are controlled by the administration!  Where is the 'balance of power'?
This perhaps is the greatest danger we face today.
Think Iran and how it controls its media.  This could happen here.
'...just askin’ on Pelosi vs. Cheney, but did the speaker’s numbers fall because she won’t defend herself as much publicly as Cheney does?....'
BINGO
The Republicans have an ongoing campaign to denigrate Pelosi
It's REALLY SILLY
What does it accomplish
Another difference between Pelosi and Cheney:
DICK CHENEY IS A WAR CRIMINAL !!
It's funny how Republicans step up to defend Cheney, but Democrats won't say a thing to defend Nancy
Thank Again, Democrats !!
Pelosi
Her ship has sailed and her pier has collapsed.
Too many lies and deception, not fooling anybody anymore.
Dear no joe:
Thanks so much for all your "warnings".
You wouldn't happen to have any solutions handy would ya?
Oh, and stop your whining about the ABC special - in a free market, the networks can cover whatever they  want.  You sound like my kids "Mommy, she got an extra cooooooookie!"
Your little tantrum on this is unbecoming and ridiculous.
Are you going to boycott the Sunday morning shows if they don't talk about what you want?
How about the newspapers?
Is the entire world required to include your world view in order to get your permission to exist?
Like it or not, we have ONE PRESIDENT. If you want the bully pulpit, run for public office. But for goodness sakes, stop all your incessant whining. You can turn to Fox News for your propoganda fix 24 hours a day - what more could you want?
P.S. I say Fox is propaganda not because they offer negative and inflammatory coverage of the White House, but because they REPEATEDLY play FAST AND LOSE with the facts. That's not journalism.
No doubt there are real concerns about the deficit just wondering where it was 7 years ago when Cheney told Trea Sec Paul O'Neill that the lesson of the Reagan administration had been that "deficits don't matter".  Democrats argued against the 2001 Bush tax cuts because of the war in Afghanistan and the possible Iraq war because it could severely damage the economy (McCain was against it also). The democrats were right but no one cared until the economy collapsed.  Whether republican or democrat, any president trying to solve this mess has a challenge beyond simple poll numbers.  What seems odd is that only 7% blame the republicans for the deficit when they were the ones who helped Bush double the national debt.  That's one of the numbers you wonder about the thought process of those polled.  Most likely it is a result of the decades long fiscal responsibility rhethoric from the republicans even though they never actually were fiscally responsible.  It is the public perception that republicans are deficit hawks even though under their presidential administrations, they have been the party to massively increase the national debt.  The conundrum is how do democrats turn that perception around.
The number that disturbs me is that a plurality wants the US to strike North Korea's nuclear facilities.  That would be a disaster for the region and again reflects "group" think that bombing is always the answer.
Bush is still a bit clueless and is pure hypocrisy.  Of course, the private sector drives the economy and money in our hands is good but he caused this mess with his worse than voo-doo economics so any remarks he has to say are just words.  Not sure he even knows what socialist means.  Just as schools are socialized education, churches are socialized religion.  Every country has a certain amount of socialist policy, those things which are for the good of all.  Constantly being called socialist is old and tiresome.
From yesterday's PETA dumb comment--get a sense of humor.  It was funny and having just last weekend fought off a relentless fly determined to stay in my hair, kill it.
Popularity ratings, and approval polls do not constitute "leadership."
Bush and Cheney were/are fools....but then again so is Barrack Obama.
This country deserves a lot better than what we've gotten these last 9 years.
Cheney really ripped Obama a new one when Obama selectively released the Gitom documents. Now it's time for Bush to stand up for his presidency. People aprreciate the truth, and It's Bush and Cheney that are providing it.
Faux Noise called… they noticed you’re missing and are very concerned… run along now dear… FR caters to grown ups
FR: "The deficit, however, isn’t the only problematic issue for Obama. Almost seven in 10 have serious reservations about the government’s ownership of GM, and 52% oppose closing Gitmo. As one of us said on NBC’s Nightly News last night, Obama is now dealing with a public that’s judging him more for his actions than the promises he has made."
Hmmm, judging him on his actions?  What a novel concept. Once folks start doing that, it's a bit easier to see through the empty suit.  And as time goes on, the hooey diversion of whining about the situation he inherited will resonate less and less.  This is your economy Mr President, how many jobs have you 'saved or created' today?
