First thoughts: The week that was

From Chuck Todd, Mark Murray, and Domenico Montanaro
*** The week that was: Let’s be honest: This has been a pretty tough week for an Obama White House that so far has seen more good days than bad ones. Republicans and conservatives -- including now Paul Wolfowitz! -- are criticizing the administration for not speaking out more forcefully about what’s happening in Iran (even though many experts side with the White House’s wait-and-see approach). New polls, including the latest NBC/WSJ survey, showed the public’s concern about the rising deficit and the government’s intervention into GM. Gay-rights advocates remain disappointed at the White House. And last, but certainly not least, congressional Democrats and liberals are now beginning to panic about their chances of passing health-care reform this year. As a result, Republicans are feeling more emboldened than ever to go after the president.

*** A turning point or an over-hyped blip? Of course, we’ve been here before, right? During the presidential election, the media continually asked, “Why isn’t Obama leading by more in the polls?” and he went on to win by the widest margin for a Democrat since 1964. Also during the campaign, there was the thought that disappointed Hillary supporters wouldn’t vote for him, which didn’t turn out to be true in November. And earlier this year, Democrats worried about the fate of Obama’s stimulus, which ultimately passed. So the current round of doubts hasn’t fazed the White House. "These days happen once every couple of months," a senior administration official told the Atlantic’s Marc Ambinder. "They are almost like clockwork." That said, now five months into office, Team Obama has now entered a new -- and more difficult -- phase in which the glow from the campaign and the inauguration is gone. As NBC/WSJ co-pollster Peter Hart (D) says, “There is no more smooth sailing for the administration. They are going to have to navigate in pretty choppy waters.” The campaign was easier for Obama to recover from a rough patch because there was an opponent. But who is the opponent now?

*** Well, we guess that’s settled then: In Iran today, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei told a gathering at the Tehran University that the presidential election was fair and transparent and that all four candidates stand firmly behind the Islamic Republic, NBC’s Ali Arouzi reports. The supreme leader said the candidates' arguments were only on policy, and he said enemies of the state are trying to break people's trust in the system and are doing this with the help of the foreign media. Khamenei went on to say that the election was free and transparent and absolutely free of any fraud whatsoever. And he issued this warning: The protesters are acting illegal and will be dealt with if they continue. What’s more, Arouzi notes, the thousands of people in the crowd were ardent supporters of Khamenei and Ahmadinejad, and they were shouting death to America and death to the United Kingdom after the supreme leader blamed outside forces for fueling the protests.

Video: Ayatollah Ali Khamenei defends his country’s recent presidential election and blames Western countries for trying to stir up chaos in Iran. NBC’s Richard Engel joins the Morning Joe gang to discuss the latest developments.

*** The administration’s pushback: Meanwhile, back in the U.S., Reps. Howard Berman (D-CA) and Mike Pence (R-IN) have introduced a bipartisan resolution expressing support for the Iranian dissidents and condemning the violence there. The House will vote on the resolution today. More congressional Republicans, in fact, appear comfortable criticizing the administration’s position here. Of course, events over the next few days could determine whether we see the president ramp up his rhetoric. But the White House is privately pushing back on the growing perception that the president's isn't speaking out enough, and it reminds us they talked plenty about democracy in the Middle East (see the Cairo speech). Yet what’s happening in Iran, the administration says, is organic democracy. But the United States intervening in Iran -- even rhetorically -- undermines that organic democracy, it says. Any association to the U.S. opens up the dissidents to charges that they are pawns of the United States.

Video: Sen. John Kerry, D-Ma., and Sen. Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga., discuss the tone President Barack Obama should take with regard to events in Iran.

*** If you wish upon a Starr: Now that Ken Starr is now supporting Sonia Sotomayor, is there anyone in America who thinks she won’t get confirmed? Per NBC’s Pete Williams, Starr, the conservative lawyer who led the Whitewater prosecution against Bill Clinton, confirmed news reports that he backed Sotomayor during a question-and-answer session in California. "I stated that I supported the nomination,” he said in an email to Williams. “I also indicated that a variety of issues needed to be explored at the confirmation hearings including her comments about policy making and her -- now famous -- 2001 speech at UC Berkeley." That speech, of course, was when Sotomayor said a wise Latina woman would more often then not reach a better conclusion in judging then a white male.

*** Pelosi’s poor poll numbers: Here’s a final thought for the weekend: Lost in the news about Obama’s job rating and the concern about deficit were the abysmal NBC/WSJ numbers for Speaker Nancy Pelosi. She and Rush Limbaugh now share similar negative personal ratings. That's fine for a talk radio personality (maybe even helpful), but it’s a disaster for a speaker of the House. Simply put, this is not sustainable for her politically. Sure, the White House and others will say, “Relax, she's taking the arrows for the president.” And there's lots of truth to that, but she's also letting a lot of these attacks stick. And she isn't fighting back publicly. And one wonders if that lack of public pushback is allowing this negative perception to gel. Her margin of error, politically, continues to shrink. Washington isn't a loyal town and when the going gets tough, the unpopular baggage gets tossed under the bus -- something the speaker may know. But so far, she's seems content to let these negatives rise without pushing back. Does that need to change or is it in the best interest of the president's agenda?

*** Obama’s day: At 9:30 am ET, the president delivers remarks at the National Hispanic Prayer Breakfast. Later, he visits a non-profit organization (at 1:00 pm ET) and then delivers remarks at the White House (at 3:15 pm) to promote and discuss fatherhood and mentorship. Among the folks participating with Obama are professional athletes DeWyane Wade, Antwan Randle El, and Etan Thomas. (Of course, we have to ask -- who is vetting these guys? Wade has separated from his wife, who has accused him of infidelity and abandonment of their children.) Obama also has penned an essay in Parade magazine on Father’s Day. Finally tonight, Obama addresses the Radio and TV Correspondents Dinner.

FR: In Iran today, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei told a gathering at the Tehran University that the presidential election was fair and transparent"

And President Obama again ignored all that is going on in Iran.

Obama is voting "Present" when it comes to Iran.
Iran has just aabout the same amount of transparency as the Obama administration.
Who won in Iran?  Nobody!

The news out of Iran was very saddening.  The Ayatollah Khamenei is sooo out of touch with the Iranian people. They are one giant step closer to a rebellion.  Many innocent people will be hurt or killed.   The next big question is whether the military will turn on its own brothers and sisters or stand down.

We are looking at a very unstable Iran, which could have larger mid-East implications. It is also time for Iraq and Israel to keep its powder dry.  This is chapter two of a very long novel.

GOP idiots like Eric Cantor and Fox News need to shut-up.  US involvement in Iran will only make matters worse. The House of Representatives should also remain mute on the Iran matter. It is out of their jurisdiction.   Now is a time when our President needs to invite the GOP leadership to the White House and tell Mitch, John, Eric and others to stay out of this matter.  They are not being helpful.

For a few minutes I watched Ed Schultz appearing perplexed that Tom Daschle opposed a public healthcare plan.  Ed, two minutes of research would reveal that Tom is in bed with the health insurance industry. That’s where he gets his income!!  Ed, you are a great cheerleader, but give yourself time to think about these things.

The economy is getting paid for being and having a clunkers....reflections of the GOP...

So Cash for Clunkers passed. Interesting. So now cars that were valued at $500, or even less, are worth $4500 on trade in. Some would call that inflation of the car market by the government. Kind of like what the government did, for housing . . .
Prayer Breakfasts - Obama doesn't show up. Hispanic Prayer breakfasts - Obama shows up.

Will Sotomayor show up and tell us how much better she is then the rest of us because she's Hispanic?
"Gay-rights advocates remain disappointed at the White House. "

They had their chance to support Nader and they didn't.Nader supported FULL GLBT rights, Obama didn't.Never has.So don't be crying about it now...Where where you all when Kucinich's campaign needed you huh ?
Wish upon a star?

Bart Starr, Ringo Starr ... no, it's Ken Starr.

The first two would rate better than Ken .
Paul Wolfowitz?

It is just so funny how the media keeps trotting out these discredited retreads.

I guess the only requirement to be a foreign policy expert these days is being old enough to say you are.

From MyDD
(My Direct Democracy):

'...What you can do to support the public option

If you believe that real health care reform requires a public option for health insurance, you have two new and easy ways to do something about it.

Several major blogs joined with Health Care for America Now and Democracy for America today on a campaign to get U.S. senators on record regarding a public option. From Chris Bowers' post at Open Left:

We made and delivered on a commitment to bring about wide Democratic majorities in Congress. Now, instead of negotiating in secret, this Congress needs to make a public commitment to us on where it stands on health care.

No more dodges. No more vague, open-ended responses. We need every member of the Senate--main obstacle to reform--to answer four questions on the public option:

Do you support a public healthcare option as part of healthcare reform?

If so, do you support a public healthcare option that is available on day one?

Do you support a public healthcare option that is national, available everywhere, and accountable to Congress?

Do you support a public healthcare option that can bargain for rates from providers and big drug companies?

[...]Email--don't call, but email--these four questions to your Senators now.

Make it clear that you want a written response to all four questions. There needs to be as little room for interpretation as possible. The Senate is going to be the biggest hurdle on health care, as it has proven to the biggest hurdle on all legislation in 2009. That is where we must focus our pressure.

When you receive a response, post it on this webpage. We are going to collect all of the responses to find out where every member of Congress, but especially the Democratic members, stand on the public option. It is only with this information that we can prevent backroom deals that will sell us out to insurance companies.

Congress Person Pelosi numbers only count in where?

Kalifornia..(sp)..fo real
Pelosi's poll numbers . . . , Pelosi can't fight back. To do so would require her to answer questions from the press about why she thinks the CIA lied to her. The Pelosi story is the biggest story ignored by the press. She is effectively a non factor in Washington now in days. Without her, and her extreme liberal views, bills like health care and cap & trade haven't got a chance.
In Iran today, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei told a gathering at the Tehran University that the presidential election was fair and transparent and that all four candidates stand firmly behind the Islamic Republic, NBC’s Ali Arouzi reports. Ken Starr won't get any grief from the liberals. He was against Bill Clinton in the '90s, but the liberals have a new love now that they have stars in their eyes for, Barack H. Obama. Billy Boy has been sent off to be the Worlds Playboy. Liberals couldn't care less about Billy anymore.

Are you folks living in the same world with the rest of us?

Can someone please identify for me one point from the day he announced his candidacy for the Presidency until this very day that President Obama has had "smooth sailing"?

Why does the media keep repeating this lie?

There has been no smooth sailing and there has been no honeymoon. Ever.

Who is the opponent now? The corporate news media, who manufacture nontroversies and distort the truth out of one side of their mouths, and then complain that Obama is having a honeymoon when the trash they spew doesn't have the effect they wanted out of the other.

What a load of bull.
My name Barack Obama, and I do not meddle.
*** If you wish upon a Starr ***

Lol!!!
President Obama has set the correct tone in dealing with Iran's election upheaval.  All these neonazis who keep whining about talking tough just don't understand that their election affairs are none of our business, just as our election affairs aren't their business.  Just how do you think Americans would react if Ahmadinejad stuck his nose into our Minnesota Senate race recount kerfluffle?  Yeah both repugnant ones and Democrats would tell him to buzz off and mind his own business, and not in those kind words.  The Iraninans have to work this through themselves whether the election was rigged or not, and have to decide if they want to be ruled by a bunch of clueless dishonest clerics.

That's funny that that legal gossip monger Ken Starr, who wasted $66 million taxpayer dollars, is backing Sotomayor.  Seems that only a few limpwristed conservative crybabies are still whining about her confirmation, and her confirmation will come soon despite the disgusting attempts by the evil elephants to stall the procedure.

As always another great Friday and week here at First Read, the best place on the web for political discourse.  Thanks to Mark, Domenico and all of the hard working First Read crew for posting so many great articles and reader comments.  Thanks to all the Obama supporters for posting great comments.

In First Read We Trust!
Obama's poll numbers are going down because he is proving himself to be a liar on many of his campaign promises. He is on tape promising the gay people he will do away with don't ask , don't tell, and he said DOMA was wrong and have congress pass a bill to overturn it; But instead he filed a brief supporting it; "if that does not a Liar make, I don't know what does. 'He has nothing to be afraid of, 'certainly not the repubs, 'even the biggest old repub himself "DICK Cheney" is for gay marriage rights Now.  Obama better stop throwing the gays under the bus, it makes him look like a liar.

Well if they are feeling panic now, just wait until they buckle to the insurance lobby and are voted out of office.

The American people will have health care reform, with or without the spineless "representatives" currently serving in the Congress.

Count on it.
Pelosi's numbers are so low they'll be feeding her in the basement soon. Another bad sign for the Dems.

I'm thinking that all this "ABC from the White House" and "NBC from the White House' crap is doing Obie more harm than good.

He is prostituting the White House in ways that Slick Willie never thought of ... no respect for who or what comes in and goes out of those hollowed doors.

WHY are THESE BOZOS being listened to ?
Why is the media puffing up clowns whose prescriptions are KNOWN to be WRONG and Counter productive

The Democratic Party NEEDS a DNC Chairman who WILL SPEAK UP and 'Bitch Slap' these BOZOs

Why did Obama replace Howard Dean ??

The Neo-Cons and Congressional Republicans are an IDIOT'S DELIGHT
Drips of information are coming out from the Democrats on how they propose to raise taxes to pay for their health care plan. A tax on soda, a vat tax, a payroll tax, and a tax on employer health benefits are taxes under discussion.

Doesn't sound like the Democrats are going to let common Americans, all Americans, off the hook when it comes to their taxes. None of the taxes above are only for the so-called "rich". In fact all those taxes being proposed are regressive taxes.

Don't say we didn't tell you liberals.
The GOP with their minority is making lots of noise with being AGAINST EVERYTHING that the President is doing.

Can you imagine the loud bitching that would have happened if banking collapsed and the auto industry died?  The noise would have been deafening.

I am disturbed by the fact that Americans are letting themselves be brain-washed by this ignorant and childish GOP crew. They sat and allowed all of this chaos to occur for years and acted like sheep.

You gotta' start thinking for yourselves, Folks!
On health care:  Nancy Pelosi and Chris Dodd attacking the CBO, (that's the CONGRESSIONAL BUDGET OFFICE),is pathetic.  There are simply no words for this lame attempt to excuse the bloated price tag on legislation most people don't think we need.

By the way-cancel the remaining $739billion stimulus package.  It isn't stimulating anything but the deficit.

Pelosi may be unpopular, she may be the face of congressional democrats, she may, in fact, be a drag on the democratic party, but you are not going to get her out of that speaker's chair with a crowbar.  well, at least until 2011, when a Republican majority takes over.

By the way, you glossed over the number of people who blame congressional republicans for the deficit: 7%.  Bad news for dems.

Obama's problems are really not of his own making in one sense.  While I agree that he is to blame for exploding the deficit, the real problem is that many of those who voted for him expected him to be another Bill Clinton-fiscally conservative, socially liberal.  What they got instead was a fiscal profligate, and a social conservative-at least as far as gay rights go.  What NOBODY, (including me) expected was that he would channel Richard Nixon.  Firing IG's who dare to investigate fraud and waste, and attacking the one news outlet that dares not to worship at his feet?  What's next-is the Oval Office bugged?

By the way, First Read-there are rumors here in the NY metro that Hillary is miserable at State, and is planning to resign and either run for governor, (I give SOME credence to that one), or pull a Ted Kennedy and take a run at Obama for the dem nomination in 2012,(dn't really give that one much credit, but stranger things have happened). Have any of you guys heard any of this, or is it just idle gossip?
Why does the media want Nancy Pelosi to "push back" against her critics?

Why can't she just do her job and let the chips fall where they may?

Is that not dramatic enough for you guys?
Nothing about President Obama's speech last night.  He is right to strongly encourage Democrats to band together and NOT forget the nature of the town AND Change isn't easy.  I am positive MANY of us won't agree with him often; however, I fundamentally believe that he represents a large proportion of my values and he is far superior than any of the alternative possible outcomes from the 2008 election.

With that said, it will be bumpy.  This Iran situation is pure shiny object for the Repubs.  I loved Richard Engel on "Pete" last night.  Domenico, "Liz" looked a little bit like you.  What gives?

Pelosi is paying a huge political price.  I don't think she is the BEST person for that job.  She does not come across as forceful and her 'front man' status in her weekly meetings are simply lame.  I prefer the political stylings of Claire McCaskill, personally.  She is feminine; but firm.  Unapologetic, yet upbeat.  It is a difficult balance that woman are 'more' challenged to achieve.  Being 'ballsy' without balls.

FR: "Any association to the U.S. opens up the [Iranian] dissidents to charges that they are pawns of the United States."

Absolutely.  Obama's muted remarks thus far are entirely appropriate.  It would be counterproductive to our ultimate goals for the U.S. to be perceived as trying to influence the internal affairs of an Islamic country at this time.  The House should just back off, but they probably won't.
Obama might not be at his height but Dems got some good news in polls released yesterday, as Sestak looks like he could beat Specter, Deeds has a huge bounce in yet another Virginia poll and all looks well in New Mexico: http://campaigndiaries.com/2009/06/18/poll-watch-specter-deeds-denish/
Some comments on yesterday's article about Eric Cantor's windbaggery:

Leave it to Cantor to try and score cheap political points by distorting the president's position beyond all recognition.

And what, precisely, do the Republicans think should be done aside from issuing chest-thumping proclamations about the "bad guys" in Iran who are oppressing the people? Do they think they should do what Poppy Bush did with the Iraqi Kurds and encourage them into rebellion under the false promise that the US would assist them against Saddam Hussein and then not lift a finger to help when the Kurds did rebel and got slaughtered?

Or do the Repubs want another all-out war like the one that's still got the US bogged down next door in Iraq?

Beverly: "I prefer abstinence any day over a “bomb, bomb, Iran" bravado."
-------------------------------------------

And you know who'd be killed if we did what McBombBomb wants to do: it would be the "brave people" who are protesting the election outcome, not the Supreme Leader, who'd be safely holed up a bunker just as snug and safe as Dick Cheney in his undiscloded location while ordinary Iranian people got blasted to pieces by US warplanes. And when the smoke cleared, the Iranian people would put thuoghts of democracy on the back burner and solidly fall into line behind their own dictator in the war against the foreign invader.

Stop getting all your information from FOX.
And stop listening to John "Bomb Bomb" McCain.
I'm not surprised that the crooked idiotic Supreme Leader Khamenei would say that the election was fair and wasn't rigged.  He's got to cover his behind and had no intention of allowing anyone but hothead Ahmadinejad to win.  Let's hope that the people of Iran get really peeved and remember this perfidy that stole their election so that they try harder in the future to get a reformer in power.

It's a really stupid idea to push a flawed bipartisan bill through condemning the Iranian election.  This is the kind of interference that the repugnant ones used that screwed up our diplomatic efforts around the world.  We're done with the cowboy diplomacy nonsense after watching it not work for 8 years.  Hopefully Nancy Pelosi will crush this idiotic bill before it can ever be voted on.

So what if Nancy Pelosi's approval ratings are down nationwide, that's because the Grand Old Pansy party has been too chicken to pick on a man like Barack so they have to hit the girl.  Yeah Nancy has taken the heat for pushing through Obama's agenda but she's done a great job.  Besides the only approval ratings that matter are the ones in her home district in San Francisco, so get used to seeing her push around the irrelevant elephants for a long while to come.

In Nancy Pelosi We Trust!
If you were really to be honest you'd admit most of the increasing public concern is the result of the media parroting unsubstantiated scare tactics and partisan talking points supplied by the GOP. It's all they know how to put out, and apparently it's all you know how to "report."
*** Well, we guess that’s settled then:

This was the response expected. Keep marching!

From Chuck Todd, Mark Murray, and Domenico Montanaro
*** The week that was: Let’s be honest: This has been a pretty tough week for an Obama White House that so far has seen more good days than bad ones.

This was expected as well. It's just spin and BS. It did draw the coward Bush out, even if he was on Rove talking points. You guys did a great job this week with provacation.

On GM: The President did the right thing. Americans are not accustomed to change, but will embrace this change down the road. He did the right thing to save millions of jobs that would have been lost to the last eight years of oil company politics and CEO's with special interest.

Gay Rights: There are a number of complicated laws involved with both issues facing the gay community that weren't considered. Human rights groups are continuing to work with the White House.

The president's powers are somewhat limited and laws will have to be looked at and changed. It wasn't a stroke of the pen decision to change laws revelent to DADT or DOMA. I am still calling for patience and
perseverance.

The republicans may as well forget about getting back into the big house anytime soon. We are not as fickle minded as they think that we are. One thing for sure, you can always count on them to lose what little ground they might gain by their rhetoric.
Ron Indiana - The news out of Iran was very saddening.  The Ayatollah Khamenei is sooo out of touch with the Iranian people. They are one giant step closer to a rebellion.

GOP idiots like Eric Cantor and Fox News need to shut-up.  US involvement in Iran will only make matters worse.

===============

Pal, like or not, the US and Obama are goig to have make a stand on what is going on in Iran. To ignore it, as Obama has done, could make for very dire circumstances in the region. The problem is isolated to Iran now, but that could change rapidly. If this turns into a regional problem, Iraq and Afghanistan could have the violence spread to those countries. Even worse, the violence could spread to Pakistan and Israel.

Obama wanted to be president. He had all the answers. The situation in the middle east though is very dynamic and Obama's answers of a few months ago do not fit the questions of today. Obama and Clinton, she is SoS btw, are ignoring the problem. At the very least Clinton should be in the region finding out what is going on both in Iran, and in the neighboring countries.

Instead, Obama acts like nothing is even happening.
Billy Copps, Oakland Ca: '...Pelosi story is the biggest story ignored by the press. She is effectively a non factor in Washington now in days. Without her, and her extreme liberal views, bills like health care and cap & trade haven't got a chance...'

Nancy Pelosi is gonna JAM HEALTH CARE down REPUBLICAN THROATS !!
Wait for it Billy
Nancy is gonna ROLL OVER THE REPUBLICANS !!

I'll wait for them to cry 'lonely teardrops'

GO NANCY !!
Brining San Francisco Values to Washington DC

Thanks Feisty. Hats off to you as well.

President Obama will have his ups and downs through his years in the White House. But at the end of the day, he has strong support from the Democratic base. I still go to youtube and watch election night with Keith, Rachel, David G., Chris M., Eugene Robinson. What an historic night that was. Class act from all of them that evening.

I am still so happy he won.  I tune out the right wing now. I don't mind genuine attacks on President Obama, as we his supporters do. But the right wing attacks are pure political, with no real stances on anything.

As the headline read on one of Keith's programs one night - The Party Of No Cents. Lol!!! I just got such a kick out of that line.

As far as up here in Beantown - The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore.
no joe, no bo, nj:  What NOBODY, (including me) expected was that he would channel Richard Nixon.

And Obama has his own Enemies List. Fox News, Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly, Lou Dobbs, Rush Limbaugh, the WSJ, the Washington Times. I wonder if Barry wanders the halls of the White House talking to the portraits of the former presidents?
Obama's problems are really not of his own making in one sense.  While I agree that he is to blame for exploding the deficit...
no joe, no bo, nj (Sent Friday, June 19, 2009 9:46 AM)

How exactly did he "explode" a deficit that already stood at $10T and counting before he took office?  If you're going to criticize him, criticize his failure to address it, not make ridiculous claims that the deficit is of his own making.
Did anybody notice what Mika got her dad for Father's Day? An MSNBC mug (free) and a coaster, I mean Joe's book (also for free). Hey, Mika, stick a crowbar in your wallet get your dad a REAL gift! What a tightwad!
Health care appears dead. There are just not enough votes in either the House or the Senate to pass that monstrosity. I mean $1.6T. and it's not even universal?
Feisty Redhead Roselle, IL (Sent Friday, June 19, 2009 9:33 AM)

"I don’t go wandering over to the ‘Guns & Bibles Weekly’  or ‘The Home Grown Terrorist Times’ sites..."

Hey Feisty, can you share the links to those sites?  I betcha that 'guns n bibles' place is a hoot, sounds like a real babe magnet.  And if the 'terrorist times' has a decent sports section, then sign me up.  Damn Washington Post has been cutting back bigtime and I need my sports fix.
It is absolute COMIC GOLD that the SAME REPUBLICAN PARTY that spent the past TWO YEARS trying to convince us that President Obama was a HORRIBLE PERSON because his middle name is HUSSEIN are now berating the same guy that they called a "secret Muslim" for not putting the full force of the U.S. military behind HUSSEIN Musavi in Iran?

The Republican Party has to be one of the more disfuctional, contradictory, and must plain SIMPLETON political organizations on the face of this earth.

P.S. To Jonathan in Flint, MI:

You said yesterday that President Bush was not a true conservative and did not rule as a conservative. How convenient for you.

Vote for someone twice, stand behind their every move, and then when it doesn't work out? They weren't conservative anyway.

Could the reason all these "conservative leaders" don't apply conservative priciples when they are in office be because they DON'T WORK?

Our current budget deficit would seem to be the answer.

P.S.S. Thanks for the shoutout Feisty!
One of the most telling contrasts regarding the positive v. negative opinions regarding Presidant Obama's job performance is the opinions of the politician/media voices as compared to the reality of the peoples' voices.  We, the people usually get drowned out by those in power. Whether it be the pols sitting in Congress who are running as the opposition in 2010 or the media who is trying to create or prolong a story for the sake of hearing themselves talk.

I am happy that Obama has toned down the rhetoric and not created an international situation in Iran which could then would be used by the dictators in power as an issue of "meddling" resulting in the crack down on those demonstrating in the streets of Tehran for their voices to be head.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Let me repeat what I’ve said before… I still believe I voted for the RIGHT Man at the RIGHT time for the RIGHT job!
All this ramped up rhetoric by the big mouth with the golden mic needs to calm down now.
Sotomayor will be confirmed and there isn't a damn thing fat boy can do about it...LOL!
