Obama to hold news conference Tues.

Posted: Monday, June 22, 2009 11:52 AM by Mark Murray
Filed Under: ,

From NBC's Mark Murray
Based on President Obama's schedule, it was looking like a relatively slow week -- at least by previous standards. Today, in a few minutes, he holds an event marking a deal on prescription drug prices, and then signs into law the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act. On Tuesday, he meets with Chilean President Bachelet. On Wednesday, he holds a town hall on health care. On Thursday, he meets with members of Congress to discuss immigration. And on Friday, German Chancellor Angela Merkel comes to the White House.

Video: The video is titled, "He's Barack Obama," and it shows the president dressed up as super hero as he tackles various issues.

But moments ago, the White House added another event to his schedule: a Rose Garden press conference, which will take place tomorrow at 12:30 pm ET.

Among the subjects about which he'll likely get questions: Iran, health care, and the stimulus.

Would someone ask our President if he would support the repeal of all Congressional health benefits to help end our budget deficit?

Every little bit helps, right?

As a matter of fact, shouldn't the Republican Party be spearheading this effort, since they hate "the government" being involved in healthcare? Has John McCain stopped getting Social Security and disability checks from "the government" yet?
Maybe he should take the time to also announce that any North Korean missle that comes within 1000 miles off the coast of Hawaii will be shot down by us, and considered an act of War.
The election is over. The campaigning is not. We do not have a progressive Congress. We have to keep at it with the healthcare policy WE want.

This isn't even about President Obama. It's about us and the Democrats we put in Congress. Forget the GOP. The only thing they have to offer this country is empty criticism, just for the sake of criticism. We are so done with those has-beens.

The last thing they should be talking about is Iran/foreign policy and healthcare policy. These topics aren't exactly their areas of expertise, as we have learned.
Never mind all of that.  It's starting to look not likely that anything much will ever get done on any of those topics, in any event.  But as long as they're talking Rose Garden, what I really want to know is what the President uses to treat black spot, and when is the best time to prune.

Maybe Chuck Todd could ask him.  ;)
The night before the news conference, meaning TONIGHT, have a big party at the White House ... or, better still, use some more taxpayer bucks to fly the wife to Bora Bora for the weekend.

It's on us, pal. It's always on us.
You know, the more I think about the first sentence of this post, the more I realize how much the media really believes that anything that doesn't happen in front of a camera or a mike doesn't count.

It's a "slow week" because there aren't alot of press events planned? Is it possible that the President might still be VERY BUSY even if he isn't being recorded?

Mercy.
Booyah!  Another fist bump with socialist/communist buddy Bachelet.  If you take the time to read her portfolio/dossier, you will find many, many dark niches in really bad places that have influenced this very dark Chilean despot.  But, why not fist bumping by the socialist tag team of bama-bachelet?
"But all those jobs Obama promised will be working in slave labor camps in China or the middle east - cause if BoBo keeps spending at this rate, in another year, China and the Middle East will own this country - lock, stock, and barrel."  Patrick, KY

Hey Patrick - Get a clue it was the bushwhacker and you repugnant ones who created the job tax credit for outsourcing good American unionized labor to the slave labor of China, our biggest competitor for world power.  I can't wait for Obama to get rid of that evil outsourcing jobs tax credit and replace it with one here to create good paying union manufacturing jobs that will help lower the unemployment caused by your bushwhacker!  It's been you repugnant ones who have been fighting more gas mileage efficency in cars so that we are using too much foreign oil.  It's because of you repugnant ones that China and the Middle East will own us lock stock and barrel.

About time President Obama had a slow week, he's been going at breakneck speed since he's taken office fixing the many screwups of the bushwhacker and his repugnant one's party of sore losers.  He's a superhero defending the people against the big business crowd of self serving ripoff conartists.  I just loved the JibJab team's new video depicting Barack as a superhero.

In an attempt to push up those tumbling poll numbers, Obama has announced a rose Garden press conference.  Reporters scrambled to get their questions formulated and submitted to the White House for pre appoval.

I should have been a reporter-I do a better job than most of the s-called pros.

Eric-I tried to post this earlier.  Rasmussen shows that 33% of Likely voters now strongly approve of Obama, 34%strongly disapprove, for a net of -1%.  The total who stronly and somewhat approve is 54%, (not 64%0; the total who strongly and somwhat disapprove is 45%.  Rasmussen polls likely voters; has a margin of error of 3%.

Gallup has more bad news for Obama.  His total approval is 57%,total disapprval 35%.  Gallup polls all adults with a margin of error of 5%.

He remains,in both polls, more popular than his policies.  For example, in gallup, 53% disapprve of the new tobacco regulations as being wasteful and unneccessary.  Majorities disapprove of his handling of the deficit and budget.  A slim majority,, (51%) approve of his handling of the economy.

It ain't good.  I expect a pop in his poll numbers after his ABC lovefest, but it will fade when the unemployment numbers come out next week.  It may not last that long if the North Koreans fire a missile at Hawaii or Alaska-most people disapprove of his handling of that situation, by the way.

By the end of July, you, Fiesty redhead, Nashville Fan, and MSierra may be the last holdouts in a country that has woken up to the disaster of electing an ivory tower academic to the white house.
It's been a couple of weeks. I was starting to get withdrawl symptoms. Gotta have my Obie fix!!
YoI keep hearing comments about the President's "over-exposure."  The point is, no one is accustomed to so much openness and transparency.  Just like Congress and their staffs being paid a gazillion dollars a year are not accustomed to "really working" for their pay.  I admire the President and the administration and those members of Congress working alongside him for the betterment of all Americans.  I said many months ago, if you cannot keep up, get the heck out of the way.  Thank you, Mr. President.  Win, lose or draw, I know you have the American dream for all of us as you driving force!
Hey Nash:

At least you're offering choices on how to pay for health care.  I have no problem with some of the different priorities you are advocating.  It's a pity this administration cannot make these choices.  They tell the lie that you can have it all at no expense, - we'll tax someone else, or borrow it.  They are so similar to the Bush administration it's sad.  They also told the same story, you can have it all (2 wars), and it won't cost you because we'll borrow the money.
Will everyone be allowed to ask questions?

Or only those reporters that agree with Barack? You know, like it has been up until now.
Hey Feisty Redhead and Anita, Birmingham - I agree that David Gregory needs to be replaced on MTP.  Lawrence O'Donnell would make a great replacement as would Chuck Todd.  As to why Dr. Nancy Snyderman is getting a new hour long show, it's the concept of sex sells.  I certainly have noticed that Dr. Nancy has a great pair of legs when she's out front sitting there showing off her great gams and I'm sure the MSNBC tv execs are counting on the old adage that nothing beats a great pair of legs.  I do like her take on the health care reform issue and now that health care is the number 1 issue it's a natural to have her do a show.  Dylan Ratigan is about the lone sane Liberal leaning voice on CNBC tv and it will be interesting to see him do more of a business take on the news.

In MSNBC We Trust!
Has the Obama administration distributed the questions that Obama wants asked to the appropriate news organizations?
A slow week means Obama will only be on tv news 80% of the time.
Tobacco control act...is there anything this socialist doesn't want complete and utter power over....if this isn't narcissism, nothing is....

I don't want people to start smoking either, but
when and where will Obama stop?

Soon he'll tell you how many times you can eat fast food per week, how many miles you can drive, what time you have to go to bed, how many kids you can have, etc.

This man is destroying the American way of life and needs to be removed from office.
I saw this Jib Jab video on Friday night. It was funny. I also got a charge out of the jokes that the President told, especially the one directed at MSNBC and the one for for Fox noise was funny as well.

What about the TARP money being returned to tax payers? that still hasn't posted and my comments never got posted about the TARP being returned to tax payers as well.
FR: Among the subjects about which he'll likely get questions: Iran, health care, and the stimulus.

Iran - Obama will again state he doesn't want to meddle.

Health Care - Dead On Arrival - Time for Obama to blame the Republicans and Bush.

Stimulus - Dead On Arrival - Money was used only to pay back the unions. Time to have Biden blame the Republicans and Bush.

We've certainly been engaged in economic warfare against Iran
The video looks more like Obama's dream of what he thinks he is.
Send out Rahm Emmanuel to knock heads in the Senate on Health Care

Iran - A
Health Care - D (and falling)
Stimulus - F

That might work out to a 'gentleman's C'.  But I'd like to hear him comment on this story:

DUBAI Jun 23 (Reuters) – If it were in a position to do so, Al Qaeda would use Pakistan's nuclear weapons in its fight against the United States, a top leader of the group said in remarks aired Sunday.

'God willing, the nuclear weapons will not fall into the hands of the Americans and the mujahideen would take them and use them against the Americans,' Mustafa Abu al-Yazid, the leader of al Qaeda's in Afghanistan, said in an interview with Al Jazeera television. Abu al-Yazid was responding to a question about U.S. safeguards to seize control over Pakistan's nuclear weapons in case Islamist fighters came close to doing so.

Asked about the group's plans, the Egyptian militant leader said: 'The strategy of the (al Qaeda) organization in the coming period is the same as in the previous period: to hit the head of the snake, the head of tyranny -- the United States.' "

Ooops, if he talked about stuff like this that would be 'fear mongering.' Can't have that, nope, can't have that.  Guess we'll just have to rely on Cheney to keep us informed on the bad guys.

The video shows the best way to describe Obama - a cartoon, a joke, a legend in his own mind.
.....fighting a never ending battle against bigotry, fascism, and GOP lies.

I'm down with this.

It's funny that we havent heard anything about the TARP funds being repaid by the banks. Because if that was a topic of conversation then the republicans will have no amo to keep blubbering about. Even if Bush and Poulson nationalized the banks.

The Obama administration gave them permission to pay the money back following the stress test. Now the rebubs want to complain about the regularations that the CIC want to impose upon the banks.

So what, there have been 40 banks to fail in 2009 already. They should have practiced fair lending practices. I would like to see them go after the Consumer Credit Bureaus for supplying them with the information to target consumers.

HCR Now!! Take their health care if they won't pass ours, after all, they work for us!
I'm really glad President Obama will hold a press conference. He always reassures Americans when crisis or difficult times loom before us. His opponents are ready to hold up unemployment numbers to say he is failing (which is what Rush and others wanted anyway) but the American people are smarter than that. Nobody thought he'd work miracles in a few months to un-do all the Bush damage. Most people give him at least 2 years before passing judgement. We know the GOP plan would have been to cut taxes for the rich and freeze spending on any necessary programs so we know we are better off.

Why even give the GOP coverage of their complaints that Pres. Obama has been too wimpy on Iran? Even Morning Joe is appalled at the level of ignorance evident by the McCain/Graham comments. I have not heard one expert on Iran/foreign policy critical of Pres. Obama's measured response. In contrast, they are praising him for a smart response. Shouldn't the media be pointing this out? If McCain were president, I guess he'd like to see us bomb, bomb, bomb Iran at this point. Some Neocons can't see that this is NOT about us, it's about democracy for Iran, fueled by Iranians. Once we step in forcefully, the current regime wins.

It was hard watching a healthcare debate on Morning Joe with a former CEO and 4 very wealthy news figures. Well, ofcourse they see no urgency in the matter. Mika and Joe can go to their doctor or a hospital paying little if anything for services and whatever tests they demand. Perhaps they should pull in some "average" Americans who are on the front lines and have no health care. And check out what the tax payers spend when these uninsured must go to the ER for the common cold. It's disgusting that the rich will refuse to pay a little more for those who need our help most. If a health care reform fails, it will be on the backs of the GOP, the media elite, the lobbyists and the rich who don't seem to care about helping our poorest neighbors. I hope they will be proud. My guess is that Pres. Obama will stop seeking help from the GOP who only say no anyway and craft a great plan that has at least 51 Democrat votes.

President Obama has never said that there would be no costs in reforming healthcare. Make no mistakes, there will be upfront costs, just like all investments require.

However the cost of continuing our current system are far worse, economically and morally.

After decades of being taken advantage of by the for profit "health insurance" companies, I'll take my chance with the Feds - we've got nowhere to go but up.

Whether President Obama's approval rating is anywhere from 0 to 100, that still does not fix our broken healthcare system.

He will be President for another 3 1/2 years, like it or not.

Polls are fun during election time, but now is the time for GOVERNING.

Time for Congress to do the JOB that they were elected to do - reform healthcare - not "protect" health insurance companies from the consequences of their horrific treatment of the American people.
So the admiration for a man who has only had minor variances in policy from his train wreck of a Predecessor continues?
Eric,

I didn't agree with 1% of what Bush did while in office, and for your information is was the demoncraftic Clinton who signed NAFTA and send a trillion U.S. manufacturing jobs out of this country.

I didn't like Bush, didn't want McCain, but sure as hell didn't want a socio-communist regime to take their place.

Just how in the hell do you think spending a quadzillion taxpayer dollars is going to improve
our economic situation if we're already broke?

Stupid people, communists, socialists, and narcissists are not what we need in the White House.

What we need is someone who can use a calculator, someone who understands the government serves the citizens and not the other way around, someone with a little humility and a lot of common sense, someone with guts to stand up to terrorists, liberals, and the special interests.

Eric, these criteria would exclude you and Obama.

Has the Obama administration distributed the questions that Obama wants asked to the appropriate news organizations?

I saw Lawrence O'Donnell on McKLuaghlin Group this weekend
He was GREAT
Responsing to Monica (?) who criticized Obama's calm on Iran he said: 'I'm waiting for more NONSENSE from Monica. Her views are LAUGHABLE'

Maybe he should be named DNC Chairman !!
I'd love to see him have a bigger role on NBC or wherever !!
