RNC again goes after cap-and-trade

From NBC's Alex Beinstein
While Vice President Biden visited Perrysburg, Ohio, to promote the administration’s green jobs initiative, Rep. Bob Latta (R-OH) blasted President Obama’s cap-and-trade proposal today on a Republican National Committee Conference call.

Latta argued that Democrats are insensitive about potential job losses, because they haven’t gone out and talked to the people.

“I have talked to people at the gas pump and the grocery stores,” he said, as evidence for his understanding of their energy concerns.

He also took his shots at California congressional Democrats -- Speaker Nancy Pelosi

and Rep. Henry Waxman
(D-CA), who has been shepherding the energy bill. Latta charged that they don't understand the effects the cap-and-trade legislation -- which he and other congressional Republicans continually call "cap-and-tax" -- because they come from what would be the the eighth least-affected state by it. Latta, on the other hand, would come from the eighth most affected one.

He was citing a study from the conservative think tank, the Heritage Foundation, from which he added that electricity costs would go up 90% by 2035 and gas prices would go up 58%. In turn he said this will lead to an additional 2.47 million people losing manufacturing jobs.

This is a similar tack used by congressional Republicans, particularly Rep. Mike Pence (R-IN), during their weekly news conferences on Capitol Hill.

Whatever it is...we're against it! Grand Obstructionist Party first...screw the country (may the economy and President fail for the greater good of the GOP we pray).  These people are irrelevant.  Pay no attention to those nude hikers behind the bushes.
Turn the north east and left coast back into the regional party and then prosecute the crooks in New York for the financial terrorism they've inflicted on this country.
Not only will the hound dogs of the GEENOPEE not hunt... they refuse to give up the bone as well!

Psst... party of losers... WE WON & your toast!
It is funny that the GOP is going after cap and trade when their 2008 presidential candidate campaigned for it. If it means losing or breaking even on money the GOP is against it. If it means clean air, clean water, and clean family values the GOP is against it. Evidence is found everywhere. One need only open his eyes and look around at the obvious to see these guys are out of touch. They have to support thir rich benefactors and throw crumbs if anything at the rest of us.
The problem with the GOPer analysis on cap and trade is that they use a dataset that assumes no significant changes in the way we use energy going forward.  We have been oil ADDICTS and we are going to break that addiction one way or another.

There are green jobs that are not yet here or even on the drawing board at this time. Energy self-sufficiency will make the GOPer losers crys of wolf just more lone voices in the wilderness.

Get some ideas GOPers of get out of the way!
Brice Ganyon, Ft. Worth Tx: '...Do you even have any idea what is in the bill? Do you even care, or everything just about politics?...'

It's a legitimate question
What kind of oversight or discussion is there on this bill ?

Unfortunately, the Republicans play right into this situation.
Whatever is in the bill, they'll demagouge it
They'll exagerate it and lie about it
(see HR 1388 in an earlier post)

There SHOULD be public discussion on this bill (and others)
Unfortunately the 'opposition' won't have a meaningful, rational discussion at all

It Takes Two to Tango

The OTHER option is RAM IT DOWN THEIR THROATS !!
If we have to, then do it

Washington is broken

All we can do about it is to carry out Obama's agenda
But, yes I wish the legislation could be discussed

PS
Does anyone else suspect that 'BoBo the President' is really J Merle Stanley in drag ??
I remember him calling Obama 'Pimp Daddy B' during the primaries
Just a load of bile and unreasoning disgust

Imagine Pence being concerned about some losing their job. His motlye crew isn't concerned abou the every day working stiff. They are the party of "NO", no guts and no balls. They are cowards that are sitting back banking on the President failing....thus America failing.

They are disrespectful, pasty faced fossils that need to go home. They are out dated and ill equiped to deal with the cluster f**** that Bush and "them" left this country in. I will say it unil I turn purple. BUSH, BUSH, BUSH, BUSH and Senators and Congress helped to screw this country up...
I'm all for reducing pollution, but this is not the way to do it.  People are already unhappy that gas prices are approaching (if not surpassing) $3 a gallon.  We don't need it going any higher.  Oh yeah...by the way, I notice that gas price increases aren't getting the press that they did during the Bush administration. Wasn't it his fault that gas prices went up, at least according to liberals?  So I guess that since the President controls gas prices, Obama gets the blame for gas prices rising right now?
Bob Latta from Ohio and Mike Pence from Indiana. Wow, there are two experts.  Pence is fearful of losing his conservative base, so he is against science and evolution.  About a month ago Chris Matthews fried Pence like an egg.

When you ask them what they have to offer to solve energy problems, they have nothing.  Nothing. Just vote against Obama, lower taxes, no constructive change. Both Latta and Pence have only criticism, nothing positive to offer.

And how many people have the Generally Obsolete and Pathetic party talked to?  How many town hall meetings?  Oh, yeah.  That "New America" listening/teaching/whatever tour that had one gathering before Lord Limpballs put the kybosh on it.

Strange how the GOP claims that Democrats haven't talked to the people, yet the criticize Obama for going out and TALKING TO THE PEOPLE.  It's like they don't even try to hide their hypocrisy anymore.

Go Dems!  You can do it!  Stop the sun from heating the earth!

One day, man made global warming will be in the history books, and it will be referred to as the biggest hoax in human history.  I wonder how many years we will be required to stumble around in the darkness, with only a candle to light our path, before reality takes hold.  When I say we, of course, I am not including Congress.  I'm sure they have some unpleasant new rules for us.  I am also sure that they will sneak riders into the bill, exempting themselves from those same rules.  It seems that air conditioning only leads to the end of the world, if ordinary citizens use it.  Not true, if Al Gore uses it.

If the sun could talk, this is what it would say.  "Those humans on earth actually think they can control the temperature of their planet.  How pathetic is that?".
Cap and trade will be the final death blow for our economy. A bunch of old liberal Democrats just keep heaping the burden's of their activist programs on to the shoulders of our children.
Try reading the CBO report-it's an eye opener.  And, no people do not support it-then again, people do not support the takeover of GM, and that didn't stop Obama. People do not support the tobacco bill, and that didn't stop Obama.

The unfortunate fact of this presidency is that many people voted on catch phrases instead of facts.  "Change" can mean many things, not necessarily improvement.  Many people have seen a 'change' in circumstance since he was elected, but I doubt that they see unemployment as a 'good'.

Hope is a wonderful thing, and it tastes really good on rye toast with mustard.

There are those who are beginning to see what 'change' has wrought. I expect to see a bump in his polls this week, after today's dog-and-pony show with the press, and tomorrow's lovefest on ABC.  However, next week the unemployment numbers come out, and none of the Obama administration's attempts to soften reaction to the numbers will have any impact.  I'm hearing that the jump is over one percentage point.

It bears noting that the CBO, BEFORE the stimulus, predicted unemployment peaking in the fall at 9%-his stimulus has actually HURT the economy, not helped.  yammer all you want, the truth is that all of his efforts have failed spectacularly.

Obama's new ideas, hope, and change are leading to disaster.  Face it, we elected a fiscally profligate, socially conservative 'new' democrat.  No wonder nobody's happy.
Have the Democrats done their homework on the impact of the cap&trade bill to the economy? Just looking through the bill quickly, there isn't any mention of that particular information.

And just like with the health care legislation, there is no mention about who will pay for the cap&trade costs. Do the Democrats think these things just work out all by themselves?

Real sloppy work by both the Obama administration and Congress.

Funny you should ask... after his tirade yesterday I was looking for a translator that's fluent in J. Merle gibberish!

Do you know of one?
Bad economy, tax revenues are way down, boomers are retiring and straining social security and medicare to the limit, middle east issues threaten the price of oil, more people unemployed everyday, but Obama and the Democrats just keep ploying ahead on spending more and more of the taxpayers money. Is there any limit to how blind the Democrats can be to what is going around them?

Obama, Pelosi, an Reid - the three blind mice.
Cap and Trade, health care, vote through either of these bills Democrats and be prepared to lose both the House and the Senate next year.
Some benchmarks in the bill would be nice. So the US pumps out less Co2 in 15 years, does that maen the world is a better place? If China and India put out as much more C02 as we put out less, what is gained?

Or, do we finally start to believe that us as mere mortals can't control the weather, either for the better or for the worse. Maybe it's time for mankind to be a little more humble in it's abilities.
So now Anita is making anti-white, racist statements? Yesterday, she was calling for bloodshed and violence if the next election doesn't go her way and called Justice Thomas every vile name in her limited vocabulary. Please, FR. Is there any way you can screen out these hateful loonies?

You tell us. You tell us how the legislation will affect the economy. It's your (liberal whackos) bill. So you tell us how many jobs will be lost and how much more poverty we'll have because of it. Where were your hearings, townhalls, scientific data that is real and not just AlGore spouting something. You have to prove what you're doing will work. Until you do, you're just, shall we say, blowing smoke.
Wait, I hear it coming . . .

In order to reform our energy usage the GOP is going to suggest we drill more and cut taxes. Because clearly that will solve all our problems. It sure worked well the last 8 years now, didn't it!

i wouldn't say nobody is happy, only the conservative blowhards whose entire ideology failed because of their own inability to control their baser instincts, and live up to their "principles".  and he's better than a 'shoot first allow no questions because i'm the decider' like we had the previous 8 years, and better than the 'i want to be president cause i couldn't outrank my daddy in the navy' he ran against.

your whole 'socially conservative' argument is hollow because each example you give is on the congress' head, not the presidency.  you see, contrary to how conservatives govern, Obama is allowing the legislature to write the laws, and not ruling by executive order.  its called knowing the job and following the law, something conservatives forgot long  ago about governance.

and Obama's plans aren't whats leading to this disaster.  it is the inability to refrain from scorched earth politics from the conservatives that are locking this government into a standstill.  Their belief that compromise is the dems caving to their platform when republican ideas, ideals, and ideology was CRUSHED at the polls in November.

but hey, why are you complaining in the first place.  you can take care of your own still, can't you oh selfish one?  we know you don't care about anything but yourself and your bank account anyway.  i hear Rush and Beck are promoting gold now... run along and get in on that with your shabby self.

Or, we could just put beanie caps on and hook them up to mini-generators. Just like the Democrats want us to do. Can't see what could possibly go wrong with that idea.
Prices may go up initially but once we actually start creating alternate energy sources (Hello, solar in California where the sun shines all the freaking time), that would reduce prices not to mention give jobs that can't be shipped overseas.

I don't know why they like polluting so much, guess because they don't have to live near a coal plant and worry about losing everything in the case of a sludge spill like what recently happened, nor do they have to live near a power plant or a oil field.

I cannot tell you how nice it was once I left LA, I had forgotten that you are not supposed to be able to see air.
He was citing a study from the conservative think tank, the Heritage Foundation, from which he added that electricity costs would go up 90% by 2035 and gas prices would go up 58%. In turn he said this will lead to an additional 2.47 million people losing manufacturing jobs.

ummm isn't that what utilities went up the last 20 odd years??  Not to mention, as supply keeps dwindling on a finite resource doesn't it tend to become more expensive??  Isn't that way we need to move away from finite energy sources??

I'm glad I get to vote against this guy

You're just being lazy. Republicans can't stop anything, they don't have the votes to do it. To blame the Republicans is just a cover up for how inept the Democrats really are. The Democrats can pass anything they want, but the won't, because they know the people will vote them out next year if they do pass health care reform and cap & trade. The people are pretty smart, and they are starting to catch on to the fact that the Democrats haven't a clue about what they are doing.
We would like to express our profound gratitude to Rep. Bob Latta and to all honest and courageous leaders, both Democrats and Republicans, who defend us from Obama’s ACES Act (cap and trade), which will cost many of us our businesses, many others our jobs, and all of us our freedoms and our future.

No patriotic and informed American can support the ACES Act (global warming/cap and trade scam), a huge Ponzy scheme that will kill the U.S. economy.

Cap and Trade “would be the equivalent of an atomic bomb directed at the U.S. economy—all without any scientific justification,” says famed climatologist Dr. S. Fred Singer. It would significantly increase taxes and the cost of energy, forcing many companies to close, thus increasing unemployment, poverty and dependence.

Cap and trade represents huge taxes and cost increases, which will hurt mostly the poor and the middle class. Cap and trade will give dictatorial powers to Obama and will further enrich his billionaire friends (Gore, Soros, Goldman Sachs, Obama’s  Chicago Climate Exchange friends, GE, the United Nations, etc.) -- all at our expense and at the expense of our children and grandchildren.

Pretty lazy reporting FR.  This heritage foundation report has been debunked time and time again.

Here's a link to the CBO report - http://climateprogress.org/2009/06/22/cbo-stunner-waxman-markey-postage-stamp-a-day-low-income-families-efficiency-savings/ - the cost to Americans is minimal, about 48 cents a day or $175 per household.

I guess the republicans have no use for facts on their propaganda tours.
"On June 19, the Congressional Budget Office announced that the average household would spend a miniscule amount to reduce global warming pollution under H.R. 2454.  This independent analysis determined “that the net annual economywide cost of the cap-and-trade program in 2020 would be $22 billion—or about $175 per household.”  This is 48 cents per day –- a little more than the cost of a postage stamp."

The republicans spreading lies and inaccurate information again.  Surprised?  Do your research folks.

You're just being lazy. Republicans can't stop anything, they don't have the votes to do it. To blame the Republicans is just a cover up for how inept the Democrats really are. last i heard there were only 59 democrat votes in the Senate.

and for the final time, i've voted for a Democrat once.  i've been an independent for 16 years, and don't trust either party as far as i can throw them.

that said, everything i've seen from the republican party over the past year highlights everything americans hate about politics: slander of their enemy, no compromise, standstill in congress, and finger pointing at everyone but themselves.

What i'm now seeing from certain Dems is the selling out of their constituencies to the lobbyist and corporate special interest groups, and scurrying to buy into the spin that the republicans are throwing out there.  If doing the right thing gets you thrown out of office because of the gullibility of the electorate in falling to media propaganda, i'd look forward to my time in the private sector again.

Do what is right, and let the chips fall as they may.
First, Jawillie, you rock!

Gingrich's team is rolling out the lies and scary music again: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3bkqWaKZVTY

If one wants to honestly learn about and understand the money flow and mechanics of cap-and-trade -- that HR 2454 is NOT a tax boondoggle! -- please read this discussion on Grist:
http://www.grist.org/article/2009-06-15-waxman-allowances-myth

Or, you can continue to repeat the GOP-driven disinformation about this legislation. 'Drill baby drill' is not the answer. Does ones ego really need to cost 8 miles per gallon, friends?

Carrotsandsticks.org is worth reading, too.
