Impeachment returns

From NBC's Ken Strickland
On the Senate floor, the Senate has begun impeachment proceedings for U.S. District Judge Samuel Kent, a process which will take several weeks to complete. Kent is alleged to have sexually assaulted two employees and then lied about it to federal investigators. As part of a plea deal, he is serving a 33-month prison sentence.

In a letter to President Obama, Kent said he'd resign from the bench in June 2010. But some House members want him out sooner to prevent him from collecting his taxpayer-funded salary while he's in jail. House Republican Lamar Smith says that amounts to $465 a day.

Today proceedings in the Senate will look like this:
-- Five House members present four "articles of impeachment," which will be read aloud. Every senator is expected to be in attendance.

-- As is constitutionally required before the Senate trial begins, a senior Republican administers the oath to the acting President Pro Tempore, who in turn administers the oath to all senators.

-- The Senate will then pass two resolutions. The first summons Kent and sets a date by which he must file a response to the impeachment. The second resolution appoints a bipartisan impeachment committee, which starts the process of gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, etc.

The impeachment committee will take several weeks -- maybe months -- to complete its work before in the matter returns to the Senate floor. It takes two-thirds of senators present for a conviction.

He should be period!!!!!!!!!
There shouuld be an easier way to remove judges

There probably are a lot who should be removed for misconduct (only)

Judges SHOULDN'T be removed for their political opinions
Not even Clarence Thomas

I thinik Elzee Hastings was removed from the bench and then ran for Congress and WON !!

Hey Gov Sanford:  HOW'S YOUR LOVE LIFE ???

Next time fly to Thailand
Disgusting.  Impeachment is the right answer in this case.  Why should taxpayers continuing paying him a salary while in jail.  It's one thing if the person pleads not guilty but obviously, he was guilty.
At least they have something to occupy their time that won't cost the taxpayers billions.

Hey, I got it-look in to other judges who have sex scandals.  It seems to be the media's brightest, shiniest object.
Kent knows it will take several months for this to go through the system. Every week is another paycheck and the impeachment does nothing to deny him his retirement with medical benefits. This is another example of a federal employee feeding at the public trough for as much and as long as possible.

Another degenerate, pull his ass off the bench and stop paying him. Sick...just sick.

Answers form another posting:

so was I despite the fact that Chuch tried to explain his reasons this morning. I was really glad to hear the President reply to the questioner about the ex-Alzheimer's, candidate whose brain is still stuck in the Vietnam era position, What do you think. Our President is no pooh butt. But, I guess intelligence, pragmatism and Chutzpah is something strange for  shrillers of the Right Wing Dings obstructionist Party
Beverly in Chicago

Beverly it was absolutely disrespectful to me. He has done it on several occasions and I am some what disturbed by it. He has no respect and it appears as though he has a grudge or a score to settle. He should be more respectful and professional. If he has problems being respectful (which appears to be the issue), then he should be professional.

These people will learn that President Obama is no cream puff. People like him that exhibit calm temperament are usually the ones that can be and are most volatile. He has that classy way of the “kill” instinct in him…you know what I am referring to…don’t you? Lol, The right wing has no intelligence, pragmatism or Chutzpah.

BTW…I remember the posting you made months ago out here when you had to put that southern bell in check…it was priceless, haven’t forgot it. YOU ROCK!!

IntheMiddle,TX:

You voted for Bush and you are just as responsible for this cluster f*** of an economy that we are in as the House, Congress and White House was.  I hope this post makes it through because I’ve sent you some dozes that didn’t post. I am sick and tired of you attacking my post without substance.

At least you did not make demeaning comments like you usually do…that is a small improvement. However you still haven’t got a voice for this little chit, so bow out gracefully.

P.S.
Since you voted irresponsibably you have no rooom to complain about anything...
This is good practice. Just leave room to put in Obama's name when he bankrupts the entire country.
Rick from KY alluded to something this morning that I'm amazed hasn't become a drumbeat in the healthcare debate.  WHY is it that in response to the stale line "do you want a government bureaucrat between you and your doctor" the response isn't "how's having an insurance company bureaucrat between you and your doctor workin' out?"   I'd have to believe that 90% of Americans have experienced being denied a certain procedure by that "warm and fuzzy insurance company bureaucrat."    This is such a no-brainer.   Why isn't it being HAMMERED home?
My name is Barack Obama, and I can change the weather.
Judge Kent was nominated to the bench in 1990 by Bush I and confirmed by the Democratic Senate the same year.
Heard about this guy last week.  Why is he still on the bench?  Why has it taken so long to do anything about this man?  This is the kind of crap that gets me.  I think I heard a woman interviewed about this and her claim was it happen in 2007 or 08.  $465 a day, wow, what a great system we have.
The defination of Rhetoric is:

a. The art or study of using language effectively and persuasively.

b. A treatise or book discussing this art.

2. Skill in using language effectively and persuasively.

a. A style of speaking or writing, especially the language of a particular subject: fiery political rhetoric.

b. Language that is elaborate, pretentious, insincere, or intellectually vacuous: His offers of compromise were mere rhetoric.

4. Verbal communication; discourse

John McCain and the republican party speaks rhetoric, Newt and Rush speaks rheteoric. Sarah Palin's stretching of the apology from Lettermans was rheteoric.

When the President addresses the nation or hold a press conference concerning issues that we are facing, is not "rheteoric". The word is grossly over used  and is insulting for a good journalist to use when referring to the CIC address to us.
If he is in prison, he should not be getting paid his government salary, end of story.
Excellent warm-up activity.  Next ... some war crimes trials for Bush, Cheney, et al.  Much as I will enjoy this, I will look forward to that, even more.
There once was a judge named Kent
Whose ethics were most severely bent.
Being both impaired and impeached
His dishonor couldn't be reached,
And nobody knows which way he went.
Once he agreed to the plea, there is nothing "alleged" about the charges.  As a part of the plea deal, he acknowledged the sexual contact was non-consensual.  Don't give him the benefit of the "alleged" modifier.
Why were Bush+Cheney never impeached or prosecuted, after intiating the torture and murder of at least 100,000 people (Americans and Iraqis) since 2003? http://www.meetup.com/SantaBarbaraActivists/calendar/8747203
This sleazeball needs to go - he doesn't deserve the paychecks.  He's an embarrassment to the state.
Anna Molly

~ for God's sake, move ahead. You are so stuck in the past it's almost laughable.

Bush/Cheney?

What about Barney Frank and Pelosi? Liars and cheats beating the system on a daily basis. Frank deserves a jail cell.

And all those tax cheats in Obama's cabinet. Everyone made "mistakes," to quote Obama.

And then there's Sotomayor. "A poor choice of words," again, Obama's qoute, but she had that racial remark in ALL of her speeches, didn't she?

And then there's Obama himself, the worst judge of character we know, except that he KNEW what those choices were about and expected the American public to buy into his lies and deception. Those who idolize him did and still do. Pathetic.
He should not have the option to resign.  He should have been removed from office the day he started his sentence.
